Networking via Oracle Mix

I just discovered Oracle Mix! It is really cool, because it lets you create or join groups, connect with other peers, invite other members, discuss topics, share your ideas, add your comments, run surveys...it even lets you chat with existing members!
So I just created a new Mix group for us, called QA / Testing Technology Center, and you can find it here https://mix.oracle.com/groups/12932
I hope to see you there, and of course....let me know if you think that we should change the name for our Mix group.

This might help if you're an XP user.
Use your BT Home Hub - Use it as a print server - Windows XP guide
Sunday 03 December 2006
Have you ever wondered what that USB port on your BT Home Hub was for? Well it turns out that you can use it to connect a printer to and therefore turning you BT Home Hub into a print server.
For some reason BT don't seem to share this information easily, I don't know why though as personally I think it's another selling point for them. The only reason I can think of is that they don't want to support it.
To set this up, follow the below (Windows Vista users, click here):
1) Connect your printer to the USB port on the BT Home Hub
2) Start the Add New Printer Wizard
3) Select to Add a local printer and make sure that the automatically detect option is unticked
4) Click Next
5) Select create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP port from the list
6) Click Next
7) Click Next
8) Enter 192.168.1.253 in the printer name field and the port name will automatically be completed
9) Click Next
10) Select Custom and click the settings button
11) Select LPR
12) Select LPR Byte Counting Enabled
13) Enter the Queue Name as LPT1
14) Click OK
15) Click Next
16) Click Finish
17) Either select your printer from the list or insert the printer driver CD and click have disk
18) Click Next
19) Enter your printer name and select if you want it to be your default printer
20) Click Next
21) Select if you want to share your printer
22) Click Next
23) Print a Test Page
24) Click Next
That's it, you should now be able to print to a USB printer connected to your BT Home Hub.

  • How to Connect to Oracle 9i database server via Oracle 10g XE

I have installed Oracle 10g eXpress Edition and uninstalled Oracle 9i client database. I used Oracle 9i client to connect to another Database server on a local LAN. Is it possible to create a database link to the old Oracle 9i database server via Oracle 10g XE? If yes, do I need to add ODBC drivers?
I want to achieve the following:
    1) Create a connection to the Oracle 9i database server using Ora101040 odbc drivers.
    2) Use a similar 9i tool (Enterprise Management Console) within Oracle 10g XE to access Oracle 9i Database tables on a LAN network.

Hope to receive help from Oracle professionals.

Database links between Oracle databases do not require ODBC. They do require Oracle Networking (included with both Oracle9i Database and Oracle Database 10g XE) to be configured correctly.
It is also possible to connect ot the 9i database using the 10g Instant Client (separate download)

There are a number of items that make me believe you do not have a good grasp of Oracle architecture and basics. If true, I encoureage you to start reading the Concepts manual found for the database at http://docs.oracle.com, or at least the O'Reilly book 'Oracle Essentials' found at http://oracle.oreilly.com

  • Oracle connect failed on x64 and IA64 platform via Oracle OLEDB provider

    Hi everyone,
I installed SQL Sever on x64 and IA64 machine, and Create a database via Oracle datasource. I can connect the datasource via OLEDB and .Net provider successfully on x86 machine. But failed to connect the Oracle datasource on x64 and IA64.
    Following is the error messgae:
    1) Install 64 bit build on x64 machine:
Error message: Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. ORA-06413: Connection not open.
    2) Install 32 bit build on x64 machine:
Error message: Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. Oracle client and networking components were not found. These components are supplied by Oracle Corporation and are part of the Oracle Version 7.3.3 or later client software installation.
I know there is a know bug on c:\Program Files (x86)\... with Oracle provider. And some one has given a workarround method that I should move my my application out of the the folder path which includes parentheses. But it really is mess method for SQL Server (That is my application)......
Is there any other workarround method? Or when will Oracle fix this bug?
    Thanks^_^
    Lindsay

Is 10204 available for x64 and IA64. It is said that there is only 10204 for x86 machine, right?
I downloaded 10203 for IA64 machine and tested connection on SQL Server with Oracle datasource via Oracle OLEDB provider, and got the following error (The data source is Oracle92 installed on another machine):
Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. Oracle client and networking components were not found. These components are supplied by Oracle Corporation and are part of the Oracle Version 7.3.3 or later client software installation.
Could you please tell me what's wrong with it?
    Thanks

  • Oracle Mix & JavaFX

Oracle Mix provides social networking, idea sharing, groups and more for the Oracle community.
You can find two JavaFX groups at Oracle Mix:
    - Enterprise JavaFX
    - JavaFX geeks and newbies
    see [https://mix.oracle.com/|https://mix.oracle.com/]

I think JavaFX as a concept for client side programming is powerful one. I mean you don't really expect for enterprise applications any one would need to include rich multimedia so I think there swing alone will suffice. But there is myriad of non-enterprise applications that can fully utilize JavaFX in combination to Java like games, e-learning, simulations, online content, etc...
Now if Oracle decides to enter in that spectrum they'd better support JavaFX since it has cost SUN already so much and new owners should be reluctant just to drop all that investment. However what ever will happen Oracle should inform us in very short time what strategies they have in mind since keeping silent now is the worst that they could do.
Already developers are reluctant to invest any time in any technology they are not absolutely sure it will become the next killer apps driver and instead will focus on most marketed and demanded ones. Reluctance of early adopters would mean certain death to JavaFX since it already lags behind its competitors and loosing any more time would mean loosing lots of customers to them. And since multimedia business is increasingly becoming a war between platforms not languages (which all have similar concepts, x and y coordinates, frames, tweening...) Java is in a big advantage here.
By the way Oracle established a path recently, they do not buy anything without having tried it themselves before that, just like with Application Server after which they bought Weblogic which is superior to their own product. Similary if and it's just if they plan to enter multimedia they will never buy Adobe without gaining some experience before that in similar line of product just like JavaFX provides.

  • Apple TV Gen 2.. Terribly Slow Streaming From Wired Home Network via itunes Windows 7. Please Help

Hello all, I just signed up for this as i hope to get more results from here than i did waiting 4 hours for a call from apple today.
I recently purchased an Apple TV Gen 2.. installed it on my Samsung 40" HDTV via HDMI cable and also ran a network cable to my basement where my router, (Linksys 5 port router plus Wireless) is mounted on the wall beside the cable modem.
just to rule things out i will give some spec's and details before i get further into this.
My goal is to use my Desktop Homebuilt PC running windows 7 ultimate 64bit to store my Digital Movie Library and stream through itunes all of my digital media to my Apple TV located in another room. Both Apple TV and my desktop windows 7 PC are hard wired NOT WIRELESS.
My internet connection is cable and tested it this evening several times at  58.9 Megabits per second down and 8 Megabits per second down... (yes that is correct 58mb/s down. this equates to about 7.1 megabytes per second download speeds for reference.
Now just to rule out my 2 year old wireless router i went and purchased a brand new router today... Same results.
Now on to the problem details and my findings.
Using my Desktop PC wired to try and stream Itunes movies from the streaming is absurdly slow.. very slow... i have yet to wait to see what happens after 30 minutes of waiting for a Movie to start.. music also takes a long time to load...
Music... i can go to icloud funtion which i paid for today.. and click on the same song in icloud and the song starts almost instantly, so does music videos...
Also previously purchased TV shows starts playing from the cloud almost instantly as well even HD TV shows...
Trying to stream anything through my desktop windows 7 pc just doesnt work right...
I have narrowed this problem down to my desktop.. but can not figure out what the problem is...
using my macbook air 120GB SSD wireless over the same network, which i also have a mirrored copy of my itunes library for testing purposes... there is zero issues with streaming anything from my macbook air over the same network via wifi...
Also using my ipad 2 mirroring works flawlessly, even HD movies plays without a hitch... same goes for my iphone 4s
the only issues i am having are with my desktop and streaming from my itunes libary on it... i do not want to use my macbook air.. as that defeats the purpose of having apple TV.. in the future i plan on ripping my entire DVD / Blueray collection to a 3 TB hard drive and stream to my AppleTV...  from my desktop computer storing my entire DVD / Blue Ray library digitally on the 3TB hard drive....
But i can not get this to work...  i can see my itunes libary on my desktop.. i can play music and watch movies.. other than anything HD will not play... but everything takes a rediculously long time to load... i can download an entire movie with my 58mb's connection in the time it takes to load something streaming from my itunes libary on my desktop PC...
if anyone has any suggestions.. there may be something i have overlooked or i am missing. any input and or advice will be greatly appriciated.
    Thanks,
Specs on my Desktop system: itunes Streaming media PC

Ok.. in order to help other users i will post this..
I have resolved the issue... it was rather simple and dumb...
I never use windows media player ever.. i do not like it and can not stand it.. because in my case it was a brand new windows installation this fix will only apply to certain users..
because it was a brand new windows installation.. i had never clicked on windows media player.. apparently streaming settings are embedded into windows media player for the windows 7 OS...    in past installations that i have used for years.. i simply never ever clicked on windows media player, as i never had a reason to.. i use itunes for my ipad, iphone etc.. etc...
by accident and shear luck i decided to click on windows media player.. and of course go through the express settings....  after i did this all of my streaming problems to my apple tv gen2 disapeared... HD movies now start almost instantly... so as i stated above apparently there are media streaming settings embedded into the OS through windows media player... doesnt make any sense to me as i never use the program.. but whatever that fixed my issue..
so for any of you windows 7 people out there using a windows 7 pc as your itunes sync computer and using that itunes library to stream to your apple tv... make sure you have done the initial setup at min.. of windows media player.. i still left itunes as my default player....  everything now works flawlessly... infact for whatever reason.. even in an HD movie my network almost has half the movie synced now accross the bar before the movie starts so now my apple tv is blazing fast....
i have been struggling with this for 2 days now and simply never gave it a thought that windows media player would ever have anything to do with itunes streaming a totally seperate program.. but it did..
i hope this helps other people with similar problems.
    good luck

  • MBP no longer connects to network via Airport

today my MBP will not connect to my network via airport. Several other apple devices connect to the network no problem. MBP connects to the network OK via ethernet cable.
When I try to connect it just keep prompting for network password  & user password, generates spinning wheel but then returns invalid password dialogue box. Tried several times and no success - occasionally there is an additional dialogue box " Apple80211agent......."
Pass word is fine as 5 other devices connect without any issue. What is going on?
Incidentally, just thought to create another Airport connection and hey presto it connects.
    Still confused.

Your local LAN runs through your router.
All your ethernet  ports, and your modem and router, should be behind and filtered from excess current. That means a UPS generally. And run input line thru UPS (coax) first, then run RJ45 back through UPS again (there can still be excess surge or current on the line).
Modems and routers can be compromised by surge outage or storm. So can ethernet  ports.
You have two ethernet ports and you tried with both also.
What you did not do that I would have added is SMC Reset / Reset NVRAM/PRAM.
This is what I have had for the last year, very nice and stronger  signals thruout the house.

  • How do I get connected to a server on my network via an IP address?  When I try to open in a URL and login as a registered user with proper login it errors out saying there was a problem with connecting to the server?

I am new to Mac...How do I get connected to a server on my network via a hyper link IP address path?  When I try to open in a URL and login as a registered user with proper login it errors out saying there was a problem with connecting to the server?

Some of the following is going to use some technical terms — this area is inherently somewhat technical.
If you don't understand some part of the following reply, please ask.
Is this your own OS X Server system on your own network, or is this some other server within some larger organization?
You're posting this in the OS X Server forum, which is a software package that allows OS X systems to provide web-based and many other services; to become servers.
If it's your OS X Server on your network, then the network and DNS configurations are suspect, or the server is somehow malfunctioning or misconfigured.   This is unfortunately fairly common, as some folks do try to avoid setting up DNS services.
If it's a larger organization and somebody else is managing the server and the network, then you'll probably need to contact the IT folks for assistance; to learn the network setup and DNS requirements, and if there's a problem with the server itself.
The basic web URL "hyper link IP address path" — without using DNS — usually looks something the following, where you'll need to replace 10.20.30.40 with the IP address of your server:
    http://10.20.30.40
UptimeJeff has posted a URL that specifies the AFP file system; an OS X file share.  That's used if you're connecting to an Apple storage service somewhere on your network.  You might alternatively need to specify smb://10.20.30.40 or such, if it's a Windows file server.  (There can be additional requirements for connecting to Windows Server systems, too.)
If there's local IT staff available here, please contact them for assistance.  If these are your own local systems and your own local OS X Server system, then some information on the server will be needed.  (If you're on a NAT'd network, you'll also need to get DNS services configured and working on your local OS X Server system and your network — you'll not be able to skip this step and reference ISP DNS servers here — or things can and usually will get weird.)

  • Unable to connect Panasonic HDTV to home network via Wi-Fi

I am unable to connect my Panasonic TC-L37E3 to the internet via Wi-Fi.  I purchased the additional Wi-Fi adapter for the set, and while setting up the connection I am able to see my wireless network on the TV.
I have a basic WEP key, but I am unable to connect to the network via any of the connection options given.  For every option there is a two minute timeout which is the eventual result of each connection attempt.
My router is 9100EM, with at 10M/2M service plan.  I am unable to connect the TV directly to the router via CATV since it is a considerable distance.
Has anyone experienced a similar issue or can suggest any troubleshooting actions?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Try switching the router off of WEP and onto WPA2. There is a WEP Setting regarding Authentication that allows for Open or Closed authentication, but even then, devices expect Open. WPA2 is faster and more secure, and it's a good bet that the TV will work once you switch the router over.
You can change the security settings by going to http://192.168.1.1/ and logging in using admin as the username, and your router's serial number as the password. In the Advanced Wireless Settings, you'll find the option for WPA2. Enable that option with Pre-Shared Key and set a Passphrase (if one is not already set), and then set up your devices to use that Passphrase (is case sensitive) once you apply the settings.

  • Connect MacBook to wifi network via Ethernet

I am looking for a way to connect my MacBook to my wifi network via my Ethernet port. I'm not having any trouble with the wifi but am looking at getting an apple tv and wish to be able to use wolan. As far as I know, wowlan is only available using the apple airport routers. Is there something I can get that plugs into my Ethernet port on my MacBook, connects to the wifi network and lets my MacBook treat it as a wired connection so I can use wolan? I assume something like this would. E cheaper than buying an apple router that supports wowlan...?
Also, how do I make sure that my current router actually supports wolan?
    Thanks.

We assume that you are trying to configure the AirPort Express to "join" your wireless network. In order to do so, you must enter in the wireless network name, exact type of security and password that your network is using.
Mistakes are often made with the security settings because different manufacturers use different nomenclature to mean the same thing. For example
WPA2 Personal on Apple = WPA2-PSK-AES on other wireless routers
    or
WPA/WPA2 Personal on Apple = WPA-PSK-TKIP on other wireless routers
Can you dig a bit deeper into your settings on your router to find out whether you are using AES or TKIP? Once you find that info, you should be able to match up the correct setting on the AirPort Express during the configuration.
Don't be fooled by the the message that you see when you click Update during the configuration process. The message states something to the effect that the settings have been stored successfully on the AirPort Express. What it doe not tell you is whether the settings that were stored are the correct settings.
You will know that you have the correct settings when you see a green light on the AirPort Express 40-45 seconds after you click the Update button.

  • How to get rid of /j2ee prefix from URL when I use the OC4J via Oracle HTTP server

In 9iAS 9.0.2 Oracle HTTP Server (OHS) is pre-configured to assign requests to the Home OC4J instance via the URL-prefix "/j2ee"/
For example, the TEST servlet under OC4J would be passed through OHS using:
    http://urmachine:urApachePort/j2ee/TEST
whereas in the standlone OC4J version, this URL works:
    http://urmachine:urOC4JPort/TEST
How to get rid of /j2ee prefix from URL when I use the OC4J via Oracle HTTP Server?

It is getting the url prefix from mod_oc4j.conf

    Thanks,Smita

    hi Hussein,
In Oracle Apps 11.5.10, I created a Manufacturing Lookup, then queried for it as follows:
    select * from fnd_lookup_types where lookup_type = 'XXBREG_LABEL_PURPOSE'.
It returns 0 rows. Why is the table not acknowledging the lookup I defined via Oracle Apps?

  • SQL Server 2K "Linked Server" to Oracle 9i Release 2 via "Oracle Provider

    Hi,
I'm trying to set up a SQL Server 2000 "Linked Server" to Oracle 9i Release 2 via "Oracle Provider for OLE DB". I have downloaded and installed "Oracle Provider for OLE DB Release 9.2.0.2.0"
My SQL*Net alias/datasource in tnsnames.ora works (It passes the test in "Net 9i Configuration Assistant", I can connect from SQL*Plus, and I can get a Linked server going with the "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle").
When I set up my Linked Server with Oracle Provider for OLE DB, I need to supply the following three fields (with description from the read-only field at the bottom of the "Linked Server Properties)
Product name: (The product name is the OLE DB data source to add as a linked server.)
Data source: (The data source is usually the name of the server or filename.)
Provider string: (This is the entire provider string.)
Here is my tnsnames.ora entry that works as described above (names may have been changed to protect the innocent)...
    PROD9I.XYZ.LOCAL =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = nn.nn.nn.nn)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = PROD.ora2.xyz.mno.com)
With every combination of values I have tried for these fields, when I try to use the Linked Server I get this error message...
Could not create an instance of OLE DB provider 'OraOLEDB.Oracle'.
OLE DB error trace [Non-interface error:  CoCreate of DSO for OraOLEDB.Oracle returned 0x80040154].
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thank you,
    Daniel Jameson

    Thanks Norman.
Well, I've made it a step closer. I uninstalled everything Oracle from my machine and reinstalled the 9i stuff, including the Oracle OLE DB Provider. Now, after I set up the linked server, and I try to view the Tables or Views under the Linked Servers, I get this error message...
Error 7399: OLE DB provider 'OraOLEDB.Oracle' reported an error.
    OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'OraOLEDB.Oracle' IDBINitialize::Initialize returned 0x80004005:   ].
Does anyone have any idea what this is about? My other Linked Server using the same Oracle SQL*Net alias, but using the Microsoft OLE DB Provider, works fine.

  • Can a SQL SERVER table be accessed via Oracle Forms

My boss asked me this question today. I am pretty sure the answer is "no", but thought it better to throw it out to the crowd:
"Can a SQL SERVER table be accessed via Oracle Forms?"

Yes, this is possible using Oracle's Transparent Gateway. Check out the My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink) document "How To Create A Form Based on SQL Server Table" (Doc ID: 564915.1) for all of the details. This document is based on Forms 10g (10.1.2.0.2) so you may need to upgrade your Forms version if you are not already at this version at a minimum.
    Hope this helps,
