Networks connects, but doesn't work

I work at a hospital and one of our patients has a macbook. We setup a wireless account for him and he connects fine (Sees cisco wap/gets correct ip address), but he can't get to anything. His email client hangs and Safari never connects to the web. I tried pinging, but even that doesn't work. Turning off the enthernet port didn't help. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I'm having similar issues with my phone.  I got my first iPhone recently, only had an iPod touch gen4 for a little over a year.  Updated to 6.0.2 when we got the phone (iPhone 5) a few days before Christmas.  When I got home on the evening of January 11, my phone would not connect the router anymore.  I was able to get it to connect after resetting the phone and the router, updating the router, and manually connecting.  That laste for a few minutes and then wouldn't work anymore.   I live in an area with very limited service, we have a network extender installed to help, and I am barely getting a 3G signal at times.
My wife's iPad 4, my touchiPod 4, and all of our laptops are working just fine on the router.  When I dropped my kid off at school today, I noticed that I am not even seeing the school network anymore from the parking lot where before I got 3 or 4 bars and could connect to their wifi when I was there.  Today my phone goes back and forth between seeing my home network but not connecting, to not even seeing the network at all even from the same room that the router is in.
Hope Apple fixes this problem soon..............

My wifi was disconnected and turned back on. Now my phone either won't connect to the wifi or connects but doesn't work

    Reset network settings.
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network settings.
Then re-connect to WifI by setting it up again.

  • Wifi shows connected but doesn't work

My iPhone 4 shows that it is connected to my home network, but the wifi doesn't work. I know that the router is working because another computer on the network is working fine.

    Try following:
Delete the WiFi network from your iPhone.
Disconnect the WiFi router from the power cord, let it be a few minutes, then reconnect.
Reset the iPhone by holding the Power button and the Home button at the same time, keep holding, ingnore everything on the screen, until you see the white Apple logo, then let go and let the iPhone restart. Set the WiFi t on and put in the password.
    That should do it.

  • IPod Touch 3G Wifi Problem...says it is connected but doesn't work?

After my iPod connects to a network for wifi, it says that it is connected to that network, and the wifi symbol appears in the top left hand corner to show that it is connected. But, whenever I try to go to Safari or another app involving the internet, the iPod says "invalid argument" and the internet doesn't work at all. How do i fix this problem?

Have you tried the basic troubleshooting here?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
    First try:
    - powering off and then a minute later power back on your router.
    - Reset network settings on your iPod: Settings>General>Reset
    - Resetting youriPod

  • Wi-fi "connected" but doesn't work

i have wi-fi that has worked great with my iPhone but now it shows that it connects but wen i try to use the browser or any web based application it will not work... i have reseted my iphone, removed and replaced the sim card, changed and reseted the wi-fi web settings etc. and it still won't work...can anybody help this is very urgent.

Same here. Email and safari work only with edge. My wifi is connected however it doesn't connect to anything outside my own network(i.e I can use Airmouse or istat but it won't download emails or open web pages). I've checked the router but that all seems correct and the other computers in the house connect ok.
I did have an app upgrade for firmware v3.0, could this possibly be the cause?
    Did you get a solution?

  • Mighty Mouse Connects but doesn't work

Since I installed my Wacom Intuos 4 My mouse hasn't worked properly. It connects, but when I check the green light, it flashes twice over and over. Can anyone help?

    Hello m:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
I do not have a tablet installed so I am guessing.
The Wacom web site does indicate that both a mouse and tablet may be connected, but only one at a time.
Try a couple of things One at a time):
Be sure you have the latest driver from Wacom.
    1. Trash a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and restart.
    2. Delete the mouse, restart, and see if it connects and pairs.

  • When I try to activate imessage or facetime a message pops up that says to check my network connection but safari is working fine

I know that my apple ID and password are right because I checked online and I tried changing my DNS but nothing has worked. I am in college and use the university's wifi could that have something to do with it?

    1. Log in as a local administrator.
    2. Take the ownership of the C: driver.
    3. Add your ID in security and give full access.
    4. Change the NTFS permission back to normal.
    5. Reboot the computer.

  • My wifi is connected but doesn't work

The download speeds on my iPhone 4 via wifi dropped from 18+ Meg's to .23 Meg's
The upload speeds are good at about 7.8 Meg's and holding.
My phone always shows signal and connection and doesn't
Disconnect at all. I have had this phone for a year and this issue started the
Beginning of dec. Is there a seperate transmit and receive antena?
    Any ideas would be great.
    Thanks

The wifi is connected I've verified this by enabling airplane mode.
The icon for wifi is on and I can pass limited traffic.
(see former post). Turned off cellular data and 3G too.
I get .23 on the download and 7.9 on the upload.
So I'm pretty sure I'm connected to the wifi access point.
I'm showing the phones Mac address in the routers arp table too.
4 laptops, 2 other iPhones and 2 iPod touches all connect to this same
Access point with speed test results from 10-18 Mbps On the download.
    3-8 Mbps on the upload.

  • Internet connects, but doesn't work properly

I know there are a lot of topics on this, but mine is pretty specific. I'm using a Macbook I bought last August (Model Identifier MacBook4,1) and running OS 10.5.6 (I can't update to 10.5.7 because I`m having trouble connecting. Recently I noticed a bit of lag between the time my computer appeared to connect to networks via built-in aiport (the airport signal would turn dark in the top right hand corner with and show my signal strength) and when the the computer was actually able to transfer data from the internet (i.e. web pages wouldn't load on browsers and other applications faild to load data and stated there was no connection to the interent). It didn't seem to matter much what network I was logging onto (my home network, my school's, or a wifi hotspot. I'm not great with wireless networking, but I've used macs all my life and and know how to use them very well. I could usually fix the problem by quiting all apps and waiting a few minutes or restarting my computer. I recently arrived in Costa Rica to study abroad, and much to my dismay the problem has worsened. There aren't many places to access the interent here, but the school I am studying at and a cafe have wifi. When I try to connect it my computer has three problems. Sometimes it does't recognize the network even when I am right next to the modem where the signal is strongest. When I search for a network enough times it eventually recognizes the network though. Once I find the network when I click to connect it sometimes starts connecting then just stops before connecting. If I click to connect to the network enough times it eventually connects. When I am supposedly connected it my computer can't trasfer data. When I click on Network Diagnostic it at the Network Settings stage a window pops up stating the Network COnfiguration has changed. The internet the works for a minute or two before once again discontinuing the trasfer of data while inciating I am still connected. I have tried restoring network settings to defaults, but this doesn't change anything. Neither network requires a password. Two fellow students with the same model of MacBooks have been able to connect without problems. We've tried looking at all of my settings and haven't been able to figure out what's wrong. I have a nagging suspicion that my airport card may just be shot. I will be here for most of the summer and I'm pretty sure that my waranty expires while I'm here. There is an Apple store in San Jose about 30 minutes from where I'm staying. So my questions are: 1. Does anyone know how to fix my computer, because I would really like to use it to comunicate with my family? and 2. If it is defective can I take it to the Apple store here even though I purchased it in St. Louis, Mo USA (I've found that my battery is defective already though these forums because only one thread had my specific problem with my battery and all the owner's said that you just have to take it to the Apple store and get a new batter)? If I can't take care of the the defect(s) here is there any way to extend my warrenty for a month until I return to the States without paying to extend the warranty 1-3 years (being a student who's already taking out loans to study abroad I don't have much cash on hand nowdays)?

Try connecting to a network with an ethernet cable and see how it performs. If that is also not responding this would indicate a possible software error.

Apple does not cover batteries under warranty as batteries do loose their capacity over time. If a battery suddenly stops working then apple may look into that. You would have to speak to apple care about that.
You cannot extend a warranty for 1 month you could purchase apple care and get 2 years of extended warranty. Although if the problem is reported to apple care prior to your warranty expiring then you may be ok, but I stress you would have to talk to apple care directly about this.
Why not take the mac into the apple store I am sure you can make an appointment to see an apple genius anywhere in the world.

  • 7310 networked, connected, but doesn't print

I have had this Officejet 7310 for a few years now, and doesn't usually give me problems.  i have it hooked up over  a wired network, and the computer recognizes the connection.  I can see the printer status through the browser window (192.168.1.5), and have reinstalled the software twice.  After reinstalling it the first time, I got it to print but the next morning it wasn't working again.
On the printer itself, when I try to get the Instant Share settings, it says "Hp Instant Share is not set up or a network is not available."  The Instant Share has been doing this for a few months, and I haven't been able to us ethe "Scan to" feature for a long time, but I can just use the HP Director on the computer na dget it to print, scan, access the memory card, whatever.  now it seems that it is not getting the signal.  I have items inthe queue, but they won't print.  Yesterday, it was giving me errors, like "Failed to connect to printer" and stuff, but i can't get it to do it now.
I tried the Diagnostic Tool , adn that didn't work, I reset the router, that didn't work.  I'm running out of ideas.
I'm running on XP, but I think it's printer issues, not computer issues.

OK, I think it IS a computer problem.  Your computer is looking for your printer by its IP address.  A new router (usually) issues completely different IP addresses, so your computer is probably having a hard time finding it.
Let's start by deleting the printer in Control Panel > Printers.  Then re-add the printer in this manner:
    1. Click "Start" button --> Printers and Faxes.
    2. Under Printer Tasks, click "Add Printer".
    3. Click "Next" button on the Add Printer Wizard window.
    4. Select "Local printer attached to this computer". Deselect "Automatically detect and install My Plug and play printer". Click "Next".
    5. Under Select a Printer Port option, select "Create a new port" and select "Standard TCP/IP Port" and click "Next" button.
    6. In the "Welcome to the Add Standard TCP/IP printer port wizard" make sure that the printer is turned on and connected to same network that your computer is connected to. Click "Next" button.
    7. Under "Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port" enter the printer's IP address. Click "Next" then click "Finish".
    8. Now, select HP from the list of manufacturers, select your printer from the list of Printer models and click 'Next' button.
    9. If you can't find your printer, you'll need to find the install CD and use the "Have Disk" option to select one of the hp*.ini files. Alternatively, you can select another HP printer model from the same type.
    10. Add the print spooler name and click "Next".
    11. Click "Next"
    12. Click "Next" and then "Finish"
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.
    I am employed by HP

  • Network connection sometines doesn't work (WPA or WEP)

    Hi,
My Macbook is sometimes refusing to connect to my wireless network. When the problem occurs, my network is available and listed among all the other available networks. According to tools such as iStumbler, network strength is very good.
Basically, today I start my Macbook and I log in and usually it connects automatically to my default network. Tomorrow it doesn't connect anymore without even coming near to the network settings or even moving the location of my Macbook.
When the problem occurs, I don't have network problems on my iMac (which has identical network settings as my Macbook) or my second laptop (a Windows PC). Tools such as iStumbler show that my network is available and network strength is very good.
When manually forcing it to join the network (I simply select it in the list of all other networks that it detects) I get an error saying that it is unable to connect to the network. Clicking 'Try again' has no affect.
I narrowed the problem down to the security settings. When I'm having this problem and I turn off security on my wireless router (and I also turn it off on the Macbook), my Macbook connects instantly. When I turn security on again (WPA with a passphrase) I am unable to connect. Switching to WEP does not work. (no, it's not me making a typo in the passphrase)
After fiddling with it for a while (usually constantly disabling and enabling my wireless adapter again and again), my Macbook eventually joins the network again.
Yesterday it took me about 40 minutes, a point at which I was about ready to throw it down the stairs.
So I'm using a Philips wireless router and WPA security with a passphrase.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Kind regards,
    Jan

I now discovered that the security settings have no effect on the problem. I don't use any form of security for a while now and everything worked fine for a while. Then the problem occured again, for 2 days.

  • VPN PPTP Connects but doesn't work

    Hello,
I'm new in mac...but last week when Im connected to my work by pptp VPN, i could not  access to the resources of this network (servers, pc, etc.)...but few weeks ago I can do it as ussual. I didnt install anythink and if I send all packets to the vpn works, but i can't get internet..
I think some route preference change automatically but i don't how to fix it. any helps?
    thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Dario.

OK - this is how you can fix the problem.
make a backup copy of your network id pref list, perhaps using the command line as below from a terminal window.
    cp /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.network.idenfication.plist /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.network.idenfication.plist.o ld
open Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.network.idenfication.plist using a TEXT editor or something similar.
Open the network settings screen where your VPN is listed (under System Preferences) and make a note of your VPN settings. Then delete the VPN using the "-" button and click Apply.
In the com.apple.network.idenfication.plist you will see the the defintion for the VPN settings a little like thus:
    <dict>
    <key>Signatures</key>
    <array>
    <dict>
    <key>Identifier</key>
    <string>VPN.RemoteAddress=myvpn.domain.com</string>
    <key>Services</key>
then lots of settings info, and ending with the definition of a new service
    </array>
    <key>Signature</key>
    <string>VPN.RemoteAddress=myvpn.domain.com</string>
    <key>Timestamp</key>
    <date>2009-09-01T06:42:53Z</date>
    </dict>
    <dict>
    <key>Identifier</key>
Delete everything and including between the <dict> and </dict> for this Identifier and this will remove the VPN settings and leave all the others intact.
    Save the file.
Now go back to your network settings screen and re add the you VPN and it will work once again as it did before.

  • N80 WiFi Connects but doesn't work

My new N80ie connects to my ACTIONTEC AP but won't connect to any websites or e-mail servers. It simply says 'Connecting' for ever until I press 'Cancel'. This AP is Public & Open, having no security.
At work, I have a Cisco AP running WEP. My N80 detects that AP and prompts for the password but will not connect.
Can anyone help? I thought the N80 would detect and connect to ANY AP once security was passed.
