Never-ending Indexing and backing up...
Here's my situation. I have a Macbook Pro. A few years old. I updated my operating system when the updater popped up. Ever since, Time Machine hasn't been able to do a successful backup. I plug in my backup drive and spotlight starts indexing... forever. It'll say 2 hours for a while, then go up to 4, then 10 minutes later it'll say 5 seconds left, then a half hour later it'll be back up to 2 hours remaining. Time Machine never gets past the "Preparing Backup..." stage. Last night it started backing up, I left the room for a few hours and when I came back, it was still preparing backup. I know this was the same backup session because the last successful backup is still December 16.
What's going on?

This is a common problem with iPhone 4s (and IOS 5) There isn't ' anything you can do about it, so you're best bet is to go down to the store and get an exchange. If you have an older iPhone (3gs/4) roll back your update from IOS 5 to IOS 4.

Suddenly never ending pinwheel and slower than usual
My macbook pro suddenly started to get slow and gave me a never ending pinwheel while only having Safari running. The mouse was working but no response when clicking. Only way to restart computer was by holding down the Start button. Restarted and this time the computer hang up when I tried to Log in (while writing Login and password). I mangaged to Log in two more times but I got the pinwheel again when browsing internet. Finally I managed to make it to Support/Community.. any idea what's wrong?
Thanks in advance (: !Print out these instructions and info at the links provided as most require you to be offline.
Do a SMC and PRAM reset first, then a Hardware Test
https://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/26871.html
https://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509
If the hardware test gives any errors, note them here.
Check the time and date on your computer to make sure it's correct.
If your still having slowdowns, pull the power plug on both the router and the modem, connect the modem and wait a bit then connect the router. Reboot your computer and it should connect automatically to your wifi. See if your slowdowns only occur if connecteted to the WiFI or not, that way it can be determined if it's a internet issue or not.
(If your still having slowdowns, it might be because you have a Open Network on your router and someone is leaching off of it. WPA 2 with AES is the only secure wifi standard))
You can test your internet connection speed here, see if it matches what your paying for.
http://www.speedtest.net/
IF your computer still has issues then:
Fish out the 10.6.x disks that came with your computer (grey) or the 10.6.3 Snow Leopard retail disk, stick it in the computer and reboot holding the c key.
(Make sure the disks are clean on the bottom, wipe with a very soft cloth and a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol to clean and don't place the disk on a harsh surface that can damage the bottom.)
Second screen in, under the Utilities menu is Disk Utility, select your drive on the left and click First Aid, Repair Disk (please write down any errors this gives and tell us) and Repair Permissions (the results there you can ignore)
Do not erase or reformat the drive.
Reboot and see if your computer works, if not repeat the c boot off the installer disk again and this time skip Disk Utility and install OS X.
It will install on top of your 10.6.8 installed version (only, not your programs or files), which when finished you reboot and immediately Software Update to 10.6.8
This should take care of anything wrong with OS X itself.
Now to clean the caches of the user and other checks.
Download the free OnyX for 10.6 and run ALL the maintenance and cleaning aspects and reboot at the end of the tasks (you can cancel in between reboots) but reboot at the end of using Onyx)
Do all the checks it asks when it starts up and note any errors here they report.
Also under the Verify Tab is a Preference (plist) check, check the "show only corrupt files" and run that, make a note of all and any corrupt plist files.
http://www.titanium.free.fr/
Plist files are preference settings files that sometimes get corrupted and may be the cause of your problems.
If you have some, then you can look in your Users/Library/Preferences folder for them and Trash them and reboot the machine and load the program responsible, the plist file gets rebuilt without your preferences which you reset.
The next thing to check would be your web browser plug-ins here
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/
For Flash in Safari check here again as it's more accurate
http://flashbuilder.eu/flash-player-version.html
Download Flash and install if it's not this version (latest)
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Silverlight here
https://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/get-started/install/default.aspx
Finally install and run ClamXAv on your drive, this will look for known malware that might have gotten accidentally installed.
http://www.clamxav.com/
Since OS X was reinstalled, along with bundled programs like Safari, this should only leave applications and users as a source of any infection.
If your stil having issues, then create a new user and transfer your files over and when up on the new user, delete it. -
Never-ending indexing in Spotlight
I recently restored a Retrospect backup to a new internal disk and updated to 10.5.8. Now Spotlight does not work at all -continually says it is 'estimating indexing time' (for three days at last count)
I have run Cocktail and all of the various mdutil commands suggested here and elsewhere but nothing helps.
Interestingly, I started up from an external disk and it also said 'estimating etc…' but after twenty minutes or so it finished and gave me Spotlight access to both the external startup disk and my internal disk. This external had never been connected to the iMac before so it must have been accessing some index which existed on the iMac internal disk - no way was it going to index a 250g drive in 30 minutes.
When I restart from the internal I am back to no Find capabilities and interminable 'estimating…', on both external and internal startup drive. Does this mean some corruption in the internal HD system? I have run Disk Warrior, Disk Utility etc and repaired permissions and files but still same problem
RogerOK, here's what I did and what happened.
1 tried to install 10.5.8. Installer hung at 'configuring…' after 45 mins I forced quit .
2 Booted from external HD. All OK, spotlight can find things on internal disk. Question - where is the index for the internal disk, on it or the external boot disk?
3 Installed 10.5.8 on internal disk. Rebooted, Repaired permissions
4 Still no find capability on internal. Spotlight not indexing. Opened Cocktail, tried to erase Spotlight index, Cocktail hangs - 15 mins so force quit.
5 Ran various mdutil commands to clear indices and directory. Below is console log
Last login: Thu Nov 12 09:26:00 on console
michael-corsars-imac-g5:~ michael$ sudo mdutil -i off

michael-corsars-imac-g5:~ michael$ sudo mdutil -E /Volumes/MichaelsDisk
No index.
michael-corsars-imac-g5:~ michael$ cd /Volumes/Michaelsdisk
michael-corsars-imac-g5:Michaelsdisk michael$ sudo rm -fr .Spotlight-V100
michael-corsars-imac-g5:Michaelsdisk michael$ sudo mdutil -i on /Volumes/MichaelsDisk
Error: unable to perform operation. (-103)
No index.
6 Tried to force indexing by moving disk to Privacy and then out again. BUT, Privacy would not accept hard disk, message that 'an error has occurred'.
7 Safe boot on internal disk. Now I can move hard disk to Privacy pane. Cl;ose Prefs, wauit ten minutes, open Spotlight Prefs/Privacy, remove hard disk.
8 Spotlight starts to index hard disk: message 'estimating indexing time
Question: Is all of this normal? How long should 'estimating…' message appear - it disappeared after a few minutes when booted from external disk and Spotlight index for internal hard drive appeared almost immediately? So far it's been running for an hour and it's still estimating,no sign of how long index will actually take to appear.
Thanks

Regarding connection between front end HTML and back end SQL 7.0
Hi!!
I am working on the project 'ERM'. I have designed 12 forms using HTML. Can u please give me brief idea how to establish the connection between a back end and front end i.e. between HTML and SQL 7.0. If possible can u provide me the source code for the same.
I will be very thankful to you.
Thanks,

When I did the install you suggest, everything worked fine, but now it seems the problem's back.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Did you run any upgrades?
Were any changes made?
If it's only on one project I would think that project is now corrupt, possiblt because of the earlier crashing.
Do you use a MIDI controller keyboard, if so, what kind.

Never ending smartcard during back up to the desktop
I tried to back up my bb and got stuck in smartcard backup for sooooooo looooong or even unfinish. How to solve this problem. I'm gonna upgrade my bb os.

Dropped database in a never-ending app
Hello,
I have an application which processes all the time by implementing a never-ending loop and a sleep at a given interval. It accesses the database to retrieve, insert and update data throughout the entire process. I have created a connection pool that contains a configurable number of connections (for any future multi-threading) that will be retrieved to complete the SQL transaction and released when it no longer needs it. The list of connections is decreased when I access the pool and increased when the connection is released. My concern is that I would like to detect when the DB has been dropped and brought back up without having to restart my app. The first way to detect it would be to check the connection object when it is used, but I am not sure if that is the way to do it correctly. Does it fail when I create the preparedStatement or when I run executeQuery or executeUpdate? What is the best way to detect whether I need to re-create my pool of connections?
I appreciate your feedback.
Thank youIt will fail when you try to open the connection. If for example you are using a JNDI DataSource when you call the DataSource.getConnection() method it will throw a SQLException with the correct code and message for the database vendor.
That said, I wouldn't do it the way you're doing it. By holding an open connection, you're pirating a connection resource that the DB may need for something else, or another app might need and in my opinion it's just bad design.
I would recommend opening the connection at the beginning of the method where you are doing the data access and then closing it (along with all of the other database resources before leaving that method. A general code pattern would look like this.
public void getSomeInformation(){
String sql = "SELECT something FROM somewhere" ;
try{
// initialize the connection
// initialize the statement object
// prepare whatever parameters
// execute the statement
// make sure you got some results and process accordingly
catch(SQLException e){
// handle any exceptions that might come up
finally{
// close the result set
// close the statement
// close the connection
// set all of the above to null to mark them for GC
}Some of this may seem like overkill, but that's a feeling that goes away when you've had your application spin into the ground because you accidentally left database resources open and killed the database and the application server.
Yes, there's a little overhead in terms of getting the connection, but it's a delay that my customers have never complained about in the face of the abject reliability of making sure that the house is clean and orderly all the time. -
When I open iTunes , iTunes Match started to process step 1. Always same process and never ending...
I tried some suggestions but I cant fix my problem. Do you have any knowladge about this problem?For the past few months, and several iTunes upgrades, iTunes Match spends some time in Step 1 "Gathering" and sending information to Apple. Then Step 2 runs through the first 2092 of 2094 pretty quickly. Jumps to 2094. And then immediatly back to Step 1 again.
Repeat every 5 minutes or so until Match is manually turned off. -
My FaceTime doesn't work... I would call a person, they would accept, and then I would be stuck in a never ending "connecting".. And this problem has been according with not just my ipad, but with other people's iDevices that I know.
-My wifi connection is running strong
-All the devices run the same version of iOSTry this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. Authentication with UME separation of front end and back end
My webdynpro project has 2 application. One for Admin one for Rating.
Is it possible to create a java class at Webdynpro level and share it between the 2 applications?
Why the need?
Created a custom class (lets called it CommonEJB), to point to the right pages and set of UI controls after the initial login with UME. This class utilizes the IWDClientUser.getSAPUset() method to get IUser object.
If it is not possible to create a java class at Webdynpro, then this ejb will need to be deployed to the backend.
Putting it at the backend is not good as security wise, its always better to separate the authentication between front and back end.
Any ideas/solutions?

Well, i wish to create a java class that can separate the view areas depending on their login.
lets say you're a manager, u can see certain views. and if you're a supervisor u see another. This is achieved using the java class with information from getSAPUser() position. After retrieving the position, using the java class will programmatically assigned the appropriate views, buttons, tabs etc.
so this class need to in front end, and not back end. problem is we have 2 application.
if the class is created front end in one application can it be shared with another. -

Role mapping between Portal and Back end systems
I am new to SAP EP.
I just want to know how the mapping between portal and back end system happens.
Scenario : There is a role in ECC system...say FI India. Now there is a request by the FI team that they want to access this role from Portal. In this case, please tell me how the security team will do it. Because I guess, it has to be done by the security team.Hi,
Usually the role from backend is uploaded to portal then it will be seen as Group and we need to assign our portal roles to this group. Please refer [this|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw73/helpdata/en/d6/7859ec80df46738e23ccb4f4c8c502/content.htm].

At work I set my PC to not remember history for privacy reasons.
I always have many tabs open, and the warning about closing multiple tabs was a good thing - but now it only works if it remembers history!
I have the "Warn me when closing...." box checked AND all of the lines in about:config regarding these warnings are set to true. I have tried turning it off and back on, restarted the PC.
I discovered this yesterday with FF 3.something, tried updating to FF4.The "Use custom settings for history" selection allows to see the current history and cookie settings, but selecting this doesn't make any changes to history and cookie settings.
Firefox shows "Use custom settings for history" as an indication that at least one of the history and cookie settings is not the default to make you aware that changes were made.
If all History settings are default then the custom settings are hidden and you see "Firefox will: (Never) Remember History".
"Never Remember History" means that Private Browsing is active and "Always use private browsing mode" gets a checkmark.
You need to remove the checkmark on "Always use private browsing mode" to leave Private Browsing mode or chose the "Remember History" setting.
