Never have seen this before-no HD icon on desktop
And does not show up in Disk Utility. After helping my friend with his Leopard and Office issue I decided to reinstall Leopard on my PB G4 1.25 1GB as it was acting wonky. I load the disk and start the install doing an Archive and Install. The screen shows about 4 hours to go so I go off to get some things done. I come back and my PB has shut down all by itself!
I start it but apparently it didn't finish installing but when I try to run the install disk again it freezes and I have to hard restart. Then it crashes with a kernal panic. I start from an bootable external and the external HD icon appears but not the PB's HD! I go to DU but it just shows "Gathering information..." and the gear just spins and spins.
I try starting from the install disk again and when I get the first windows nothing shows up in the Destination window. I go to Utilities where I can see the HD in DU but it won't let me Erase or Restore and then it crashes as a kernal panic. Repair Disk, Verify, RP all greyed out.
What the heck did I do, what can I do, etc? I have never seen the HD disappear before and I am totally stumped.
Also tried CCC from the bootable external but nothing shows up in the destination window. Sorry-the Target window in CCC.
And, I loaded Leopard on my iMac 2.0 Core Duo 2GB from the same disk and it runs like a champ. No issues at all and much faster than Tiger.
I go to the System Profiler and nothing shows up when I select ATA or Firewire (not even the external I'm running it off of now). It just has the continuously spinning gear.
it seems pretty clear that your PB HD is dead or almost dead.
you should get a new hard drive.

Have you changed your WiFi password?
Just back into settings and connect to your WiFi network.
Settings > WiFI > Select your network > Enter password
You can also turn off the Ask to Join Networks notifications in the same menu at the bottom below
"Ask to Join Networks" switch to Off.
So if you're not connected you'll have to go in and connect yourself if it's not a known network.
If you've never connected using a WiFi network hit cancel and continue to use your Cell Signal/Data plan to access your email. -
I am trying to upgrade to lastest release. It seems to have stuck because I have an image of he power supply plug with an arrow pointing to the iTunes on the screen. I have never seen this and want to reboot or restart or something. Anyone help?
I have this very same problem, have you gotten any thing to help? I hit update on the iPad and then it froze...rebooted and got the screen you described.

Page navigation - i know you have seen this before
I have been researching page navigation for a couple of days unsuccessfully for a situation like this
"select * from tableX" where tableX has 1M records and I want them to be presented in groups of 10 "as google does" (WWGD)
Environment: DB2 7.x z/os using servlets
Among the solutions that I looked up were
1. Retrive all rows and store in session which in my case will not work. I think valuelistHandler operates like this.
2. Do a query everytime u want a next page
3. Query first 100 rows in session and then page thru them and then query next 100 upon request.
option 2 or 3 are valid for me but my problem is with db2. db2 does not have ROWID as oracle, it does not have "limit 10,20" as mysql. So the question is "how can i get rows 20 to 30 in one request; and so on. I am sure that this is the most common db question but i am new to db programming.
I would appreciate links, ideas, complete code (no flames please), anything. need to get this done soon.

How do I send an email and get a recipt that they opened it?
Additionally, even if Mail supported it, the recipient would have to allow/consent to sending you the receipt - if I were the recipient, I would certainly not allow it. If you are sending legal or other very important files, use the "return receipt required" feature of US Mail - you will get a receipt that it was accepted with a signature.

Not able to use firefox browser preview in Dreamweaver CS5.5 after upgrade to version 8.0.1. Now can preview only in Safari.
Don't know if there is an option make the download window stay up, but you can bring it back with Ctrl+J then right-click on the download to open the folder it was downloaded to.

What does the ~ symbol mean next to an event? I have never seen this before but today when I edited a few events this appeared next to the event.

Hm. I've never seen that in iCal. In some other Applications the tilde "~" indicates a restore point or a before / after for a file. My guess is there is a broken cache file in iCal.
Try:
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Language & Text > Formats > Region. Region should be set to the country of your choice. Do not have it set to "Custom" as this can have unexpected results in the iCal window.
If that doesn't resolve the issue:
1. First make an iCal backup: Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
--- NOTE: To get to "Home > Library" in Lion: Click anywhere on the desktop and then click on the "Go" menu at the top of the computer screen while holding down the "option" key on the keyboard. You will see "Library" in the menu.
4. Launch iCal and test.
If the issue persists:
1. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
--- NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
3. Launch iCal and test.

I have copied and pasted hundreds of times before with Mozilla and firefox . This just happened suddenly.
when I go to find more information on this issue, it give a long drawn out explanation I cant follow.
What happened?When you right-click the link, the page immediately tells you you can't copy, or does that occur after you choose Copy Link Location?
If it appears immediately, you can switch a setting in Firefox that should prevent sites from blocking the normal right-click menu. Here's how you would do that:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''context''' and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the '''dom.event.contextmenu.enabled''' preference to switch it from true to false.
This setting does have a complication: On Google Maps and other sites that have their own right-click menu, Firefox's menu then will block the site's menu. To clear Firefox's menu so you can access the site's menu tap either the Alt key or Esc key once (but sometimes Esc removes both). -
Is anyone else having the finish rub off of the keys on their macbook? I've had mine for about 6 months and several keys look like the finish is wearing through. I went to the local genius bar today and the techs said they'd never seen this before.
Some people have seen their aluminum uni-body discoloring due to body oils. Go figure.
Normally putting anything over the keys/aluminum will hurt heat disspation, but you may need to use keyboard covers.
Or save up $500/year for new keyboards.
Neither is supposed to be a sarcastic answer. Either one could end up being the solution.

I purchased all out of Denmark. My HD crashed and I reload it all. While doing this I had to install new iTunes, - this is the newest version 10.xx. The old version was probbaly 9.xx (cant remember). So the library files are from an old version, - but it does not look like creating a problem. I am now in Sweden, so iTunes was installed in Sweden, and I try to re-download my missing songs while being here in Sweden. However, - I belive I am connected to iTunes store in Denmark. ... (it takes 2 smileys for this, - if you get as far as to here and still have an overview.) -

i've portal 30982 on windows NT.
i've to create a new application, following are the steps i'm following -
1. click navigator
2. click the applications tab
3. click create link
4. the schema that i want the application to be based on does not show in the list so, i click cancel
5. click homepage
6. click administer database tab
7. put in the schema name in the edit schema portlet
8. click the edit button
9. the 'APPLICATION SCHEMA checkbox' is missing
how can i make this schema as the application schema ... none of the users can see it when they create applications.
has anyone seen this before ....? this is very critical for the client ...
thanxActually, the Application Schema checkbox has been removed 3.0.9 onwards.
The ComboBox that appears while creating a new Application will be based on all the Schemas on which the Portal User has Manage Privs.
Since the Portal Owner will have privilege on this schema, it can grant manage privilege on the schema to the Portal Users who wish to create Application on this.
Later on, once the Application(s) have been created, the manage privilege can be revoked from the Portal Users so that they do not have the privilege to edit/drop database objects in that schema. -
