Never mind

If you use security roles in web.xml to define a certain page as only accessible to user x and the result of the jsp code
request.getRemoteUser()is x will he/she be authenticated?
edit: never mind, I found the answer

It's in the manual & you need to learn how to use that feature so I recommend getting used to reading the manual.

  • Never mind the color where's the text

Could they make this text any smaller? I'm on a HD monitor and this grey text on a gray background is AWFUL and it must be, what 4 points!!. It's giving me a sore head trying to read it never mind learn it.

Would you mind defining "HD" in this matter?
My previous monitor was running at 1680x1050 - HD (if you compare to PAL) - and the text was very small, pushed together and very blurred - hard to read in other words.
When I got my 24" Eizo which is running at 1920x1200 - everything got better. I'm about 60-80cm away from the screen, and have no trouble reading the text, even the smallest ones.
I'd suggest you get your eyes checked, or get a new monitor with better resolution.

  • Awful Java applet performance -- never mind, being handled in a different thread

Awful Java applet performance -- never mind, being handled in a different thread.

Here's some more info that may be of use ... The Applet is signed and this particular problem only occurs with Safari. It has not been seen as of yet when using Firefox. And it definitey does not occur on Windows platforms with IE or Firefox. It's been observed across multiple versions of the applet and appears to have become an issue around the time of Leopard 10.5.6/Safari 3.2.1. I don't know if it has anything to do with the problem, but the html that starts the applet is dynamically generated from javascript. A user clicks a thumbnail image on a web page, the javascript opens a dojo dialog, and within the div that contains the dialog, another div is inserted containing the html that starts the applet. The applet also does a number of liveconnect calls to call javascript methods. When a "close" button is clicked on the Applet, the inverse occurs. The javascript clears the html that contained the applet. The applet's destroy method is called and there are no apparent memory leaks.
The problem never seems to occur the first time the applet is started. It's always on a subsequent instantiation. Frequently, when it occurs, the applet is only partially painted and I sometimes see paint related calls on the stack trace of the awt thread.

  • Error 1704 While Installing iTunes (never mind, I fixed it)

Edit: OMG, I fixed my own problem! I used the Windows Install Clean Up utility to FINALLY install iTunes 6. YAY Thanks, B, for your help in the past.
    Hi,
I've have been having the WORST time with installing iTunes. I was on this board a couple months ago, and B was helping me out. I got really busy with school, and I haven't been back since, so all my old posts have been deleted. Here's all the info on this problem -
I have downloaded iTunesSetup several times from Apple's web site. The installation runs fine until I get to the part where it says, "Removing registry values." Each and every time, which has been about 30 or so times now, my computer has a fatal error, and I have to restart it. I can never finish the installation process.
Here is what comes up on the blue screen -
    STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x805815B2, 0xF3674BAC, 0x00000000)
Here is what comes up in the Event Log -
Application Error in Event Log -
Product: InstallScriptMSIEngine -- Error 1704.An installation for iTunes is currently suspended. You must undo the changes made by that installation to continue. Do you want to undo those changes?
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

    Event ID: 11704
I hope someone can tell me where to go from here. I just updated windows. I've run Adaware. I've even tried downloading and running a utility that is supposed to get rid of Error1704, but none of these things have helped.
    Please help, someone!
    Thanks a lot!

  • Never mind the speed, what's the max file download...

I've spent most part of the day trying to download Mountain Lion, I started about 9:00PM last night, gave up around 11 and called Apple about 08:30AM today.
The download started okay (about a dozen or so times) but repeatedly froze at 53.25MB of 4.34GB - calculating.
Then - 'an error has occurred'
The kind man at Apple talked me through dumping various files that I can't remember, re-installing Lion - in case of some unknown program conflict.
And of course we checked and re-checked everything (about 6 times), including username & passwords etc, etc, etc,
Around 2:00PM it occurred to me to try an download to my MacBook - which hopefully had a 'clean bill of health' - exactly the same result.
Then the Apple man asked if my ISP was BT! - it is.
When I called BT, what I can only imagine to be a spotty adolescent, sniffed and exclaimed; "yeah I 'ad that when I tried to download an upgrade to me iPhone = 'system overload' mate, we don't do software support, wait about a week or so and it should be alright!
I, counted to 10, and asked him to check my Broadband service.
After several mishaps and passing me to 'a senior support advisor' it turns out the router BT supplied me 'had a firmware issue' which doesn't allow downloads of more than 2GB.
Apparently this 'should've been fixed with an automatic upgarade'
Although I pay BT business rates for a business service they can't tell me when my upgrade will be forthcoming, although the imbecile at BT says it'll be 'rushed through'
I could go to Starbucks and download it for the price of a coffee, but I think I might just buy my own router.

Tolerance is a virtue. The originator of the thread gave me an idea that solved my own problem, as a residential user, in overcoming problems downloading Mountain Lion. As it turns out, the issue isn't whether you are a domestic, or a business customer. Just which modem/router you use. BT gave me a business hub a couple of years back, to overcome a very specific local problem on my residential connection. It was this 2-wire router that was causing the problems. So thanks for raising the issue - you have helped to solve a problem for BT residential and business users in the UK and many more Mac users globally who use the 2-Wire router.

  • Openoffice does not work after upgrade [Never mind]

After I upgraded and tried to use any openoffice component, I get this after running soffice in both fluxbox and KDE4:
    [insertmyusernamehere@myhost ~]$ soffice
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'com::sun::star::uno::RuntimeException'
And this is the log of my system upgrade today. I know it cannot be the kernel since the last few times I was using the new kernel, openoffice was working perfectly until I tried using hwd (because it was one of those moments where my mouse failed again b/c of its batteries) to set xorg.conf (<-- I know, wut?)...and then I deleted the xorg.conf after taking out hwd and its dependencies. Turns out I had to make new settings...

  • NEVER MIND: ANSWERED: Clicking on photo in Bridge CS4 opens file not in PSE 8 but in Preview

On my Mac (OS 10.6.8) I had to re-download and reinstall Photoshop Elements 8 after my hard drive crash because I don't at all like Photoshop Elements 10. (Sorry, Adobe.) Now, when I'm browsing in Bridge CS4  (which I much prefer over Organizer; sorry, Adobe) and click on a photo to open it, it opens not in PSE 8 but in Preview. The Bridge Preferences does not address where files open, so I can't figure out how to get it to default to open in PSE 8 and not Preview. Any ideas, please?
PS: Before the crash, clicking on a photo in CS4 opened it in PSE 8, not Preview.
A nice person on Google+ answered the question with this reply:
"Open bridge, then Go to Bridge (Menu bar) Preferences.
File Type Associations, change them over to PSE8 in the right hand column."

You do understand that bridge is just a browser and not an asset management program like iphoto or organizer?
You would need to get your photos out of the iphoto library unless you are using a referenced library. In any case, you don't want to be using two different programs with two different keywording methods. You cannot use bridge on the iphoto library file itself, no, even if you don't care about losing the photos it contains.

  • Geany Latex plug-in PDF preview doesn't work [NEVER MIND]

See the end of this post
Does anyone know how to get the Geany Latex plug-in PDF preview to work? For a while it was creating a shell script in the current directory that didn't have execute permissions for the user, now I can't tell if it's even doing that (the script was designed to erase itself). I tried with both sakura and xterm as the terminal, as well as I tried with evince (my preferred viewer) and xpdfview. Also, the DVI preview doesn't work.
    --EDIT--
Wait! The script magically returned. It's called geany_run_script.sh and it looks like this:
    #!/bin/sh
    evince "/home/skottish/latex/1/John.pdf"
    echo "
    (program exited with code: $?)"
    rm $0
It works if it's chmoded then executed, but that's totally pointless for the user to do.
    --FINAL EDIT--
I've spent far too much time on text editors. The reality is that Scite is a perfect fit for me. It's fast as hell, supports every language I want, it's fully scriptable, has auto completion... it does everything I need it to do and far more. I'm sure a very simply Lau script will implement this and anything else that I need.
    --FINAL EDIT, THE NEXT GENERATION--
In Scite, you just need to put something like this in one of the options files. This works for Evince. The menu item 'pdfPreview' will be in the 'Tools' menu for .tex files:
    # PDF preview through Evince
    command.name.1.$(file.patterns.tex)=pdfPreview
    command.1.$(file.patterns.tex)=pdflatex $(FileName) && evince $(FileName).pdf
    command.subsystem.1.$(file.patterns.tex)=0
Making the second command line into this will clear up the .aux, .log. and .pdf files also:
    command.1.$(file.patterns.tex)=pdflatex $(FileName) && evince $(FileName).pdf && rm $(FileName).aux $(FileName).log $(FileName).pdf
    Now onto spell check...............................
--FINAL EDIT, BACK TO THE BEGINNING AGAIN--
It turns out with Geany all that needs to be done is to add this to Build-->Set Arguments-->PDF creation. Then when you go Build--> Latex -> PDF, it would launch evince:
    pdflatex --file-line-error-style "%f" && evince "%e".pdf
Of course adding this to the end would clean up the build files also:
    && rm "%e".pdf "%e".log "%e".aux

I don't have the Windows 7 machine in front of me to test this on, but the XP machine behaves the same if I open up Reader or Acrobat before I click Preview PDF in LiveCycle.

  • Never mind. The answer to my question is easily available. blame the newbie.

Yep. Sorry folks. I'll do a better search next time.

Wow this so quensidential as for this had just happened to my cousin, in fact the exact samething. you can replace it yourself however it is not advised, you will need to buy the screen but make sure it comes with a digitizer. My recomendation is to take it to your nearest apple store. They may charge you a bit more but its the most reliable option.

    Keith,
    Welcome to the forums.
Are you saying that the procedures require you to check out
all the application or site code in addition to your RH source
because RH may change some of that external code? To my knowledge,
RH source is not connected to anything else in a way that it will
make automatic changes to anything outside the project. I don't
know about an official list, but I have seen (by using the Tortoise
client for both CVS and SVN) that if you make edits to RH source
files, those files change of course, and then I believe the .cpd
file is about the only other thing that changes.
You could try downloading and installing Tortoise if it works
for the version control system you use. Tortoise shows graphically
within Windows Explorer which files have changed since the last
time you checked a directory into the repository. If you change
nothing besides your RH source, Tortoise would plainly show that RH
isn't touching the application or site's code.
    Hope this helps,
    Ben

  • First kernel panic! I'M PANICKING never mind the laptop!

    Hi all,
Well (I think) my faithful Macbook 13" just had it's first kernel panic.
I've copied the panic log below: I was just wondering whether anyone would be able to tell me what caused it? I'm just worrying that my mac is dying now even though it seems to be running fine now. I'd just like to know what happened so I can prevent it from happening again. (And I have no idea what all this means)
Thank you to anyone who helps

    Welcome!
I can't interpret the log, but here's some tips.....the +Apple Hardware Test+, mentioned in the first link may shed some light.
Bad or incompatible RAM is, more often then not, the cause of most Kernel Panics. It could also just need to be reset.
Here's the most used site for Resolving Kernel Panics. Please do all the steps in order, even if you don't think you need to do a certain step.

  • Never mind the speed, feel the quality!

I'm still struggling with my new ADSL lie. Here's some more information:
    1. BT line comes into house to a BT Master Socket/iPlate, directly (2m) to HH3. From there, wired ethernet all the way. NOT using the gigabit port. No phone line noise on the tests.
    2. Failure to sustain iPlayer, YouTube, esp HD, and a truly terrible Skype image (upload is always slow).
    3. Pingtest.net defines my performace as 'F' (truly terrible). Ping 414ms, jitter 111ms, packet loss 24% (graphic below)
    4. HH3 shows me with a near 11Mb/s connection, and 1Mb/s upload speed. Any speedtest that shows real time performance (speedtest.net) shows huge spikes and troughs in the transfer rate (it always used to be stable on a different line). BT speedtest averages like made, so the smoothed average always looks acceptabe to them 'we can detect no problems, blah blah)'.
I KNOW that the line performance is much worse. I KNOW that I cannot now manage remote connection to computers in work. I KNOW that TV programmes, Hidef video streams and skype are all unusable.
The real question is - how do I persuade BT to look into this? What are the appropriate words I should use.
I tried the previously suggested trick of plugging/unplugging router ADSL connection, but to no avail.
    Thanks in advanace,
    Rob

The test is a one off test, and does say that your speed is within the acceptable range. There is no guarantee of download speed, as it varies depending on the time of day, and whether the VP (Virtual Path) that you share with others, is congested.
I think the contention rate is 50-1, so it only needs a few people to be streaming media, or downloading large files, for your throughput to reduce.
If you could get some results that show that you are outside of the acceptable rates, then you may be able to persuade BT to upgrade their ISP links.
There are some useful help pages here, for BT Broadband customers only, on my personal website.
