Never used airport and cannot connect to local network
hi,
i have an imac G5 and I have neverused the airport feature and am now at a location which has one and I can grab the local network name from the pulldown menu, and it asks for the WEP password, and I give it, and then I get a message that says "error connecting to network" or something like that. I tried moving the aiport to the top of the list and unchecking the other options but still to no avail.
help??
The basic problem with WEP, other than it's no longer considered secure, is that it comes in a variety of "flavors" when it comes to accessing it with a password: password/passphrase, 40/128-ASCII key, or 40/128-bit hex key. In a mixed environment, it's best to use 128-bit hex, which would be a 26 hex character key. The WiFi you're trying to connect to may not be set up this way. What did the host for this WiFi tell you the WEP type is?

I don't know much about computers, so please be patient. I started using Airport and I recently noticed a "network" option right below "Macintosh HD". When I click on "network" it shows "b67446000000" with a computer monitor icon and "connection failed". When I right click on this and select "Get more info" it displays nothing, just the spinning wheel. When I select "Connect As" it asked for my password to connect to "Server b67446000000". This may have been on my computer since I got it, I never paid much attention. Is this part of the operating system or has someone hijacked my computer? Why would I need a server...it's just me and my one computer? Maybe someone has hacked in through Airport? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Is your airport a Time Capsule.. if so it is able to serve files on the network.
The number is the MAC address of the network in the router.
Please reset the apple router whatever is and redo the setup.. this time give it a simple name.. eg TCgenX where X is the actual gen of the unit and give it a simple wireless name.. TCwifi and a simple password with 8-20 characters mix of upper and lower case and numbers.
Perhaps even better give me a screenshot from the computer of the airport utility showing me the Airport with its MAC address. -
Dear all,
I am having problems with exchange 2010 sending emails through a postfix smarthost server which disconnects the sessions. I also use a sendmail as a smarthost
server which is working just fine but I have to switch to postfix and cannot do this as long as the encryption does not work.
Here is the log file of the postfix server:

I
have read in the post at https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/6db38364-cb08-45c0-b159-3ddf30ef0b3e/exchange-2010-send-connector-uses-ssltls-and-cannot-connect-to-smarthost-how-to-deactivate-ssl?forum=exchange2010
how to deactivate the SSL encryption, but this is of course a security flaw, if I am not mistaken. I would like to encrypt the connection between the servers for obvious security
reasons but I have come to a standstill...
My Exchange server certificate is configured

LucaHi Allen,
Thank you very much for your reply.

and if you take a look at the lines in bold you will see that mails can be delivered over TLS to that very Exchange server (the mailboxes are on that server)...
To summarise:
exchange --> postfix with TLS = session disconnected (and everything seems to be initiated by the exchange server -if I read the logs correctly)
postfix --> exchange with TLS = works
any further hints?

No service. Cannot connect to local networks abroad
iPhone 6 I've used abroad before ok. Connected to a local network when I got off plane and received ee text about local usage and data packages. Bought a data package then just seeing 'no service' message. Checked roaming and EU settings and all fine. When I put carrier setting off automatic u can see local networks, connect to them but get no service displayed. Plenty of signal and business account which has worked fine before. Rebooted plenty of times. Can anyone help? Thanks
Hi .
Thanks for joining the community.
I have had this before myself and found turning the 4G off got me service.
Can you try this?
Also what country are you in?
Thanks. -
Hi, i have bought an airport and cannot connect it to my iMac. please help?
HI,
I bought an Imac with Airport Time Capsule but cannot get it connected properly. Initially I think my IMac detected the Time Capsule when I switched the capsule on. I then tried to plug the capsule into the router via an Ethernet cable as I read in the instruction manual. Nothing happened, the amber lights remained amber, rather than going green.
EVery time i switch the capsule on I only get a flashing amber light - it doesn't seem to detect my wireless broadband at all.
Now the IMac doesn't even seem to detect the Capsule either,
Am a bit stuck.
Any expert guidance would be wonderfully appreciated.
thanks,
MarkDo a factory reset on the TC.
Factory reset Gen 5
Hold in reset for about 5sec until the status light flashes quickly.
If your AirPort Time Capsule still doesn’t respond, do a similar reset to the Gen1-4.
Unplug your AirPort Time Capsule .. hold in reset and power the TC back on.. without releasing the reset.. wait until status led flashes rapidly.
Plug the TC Lan port <-> (any of the 3) into the computer by ethernet.
Turn off the wireless in the computer. So now you have totally isolated the TC and computer.. no other connections to either.
Run the airport utility again.
This time do the setup manually by clicking the TC icon and then click the edit at the bottom of the summary.
Change the TC to bridge mode.
Setup wireless on the wireless tab as you prefer.. that is not a major issue at this stage but you can make a simple short name.. and of course set security to WPA2 Personal with a 10-20 character passkey.
Update the TC and then plug it into the main router. -
Cannot connect to local network while connected with EasyVPN
Hi All,
I'm looking on many forums for an answer, but I cannot get it working.
I have configured EasyVPN with CCP and also with CLI. I had it both working perfect, except the most important thing.
I can connect with the Cisco VPN client to the router, but i'm not able to connect or even ping a system inside the remote network. My laptop gets an IP address from the address pool of the router.
I really hope someone can help me before my manager is losing his patience :-)
Here is my config. (before someone is mentioning it, i have to clean up my config a bit...I mean, look at the acl's )

Cannot connect to local network: accidental setup
I just setup a home network, and I went in to give access to my tivo because I thought I needed to add it to the access control list of IP's. However, I never added my own local IP so now I cannot log into my own network because I'm not on the list. I have no idea how to reset my networking preferences back to default and set everything up from the beginning. Yes, I'm a douche. Any ideas?
Dual g5 1.8 Mac OS X (10.4.6)Couple of ideas -
Reset to Factory default and set up from the beginning,
or, if I understand correctly that you have a fixed IP address, you could change to Configure using DHCP, set the reservation, then go back to configure manually. -
Totally new and inexperienced to i-pads but have bought one as I need to travel but keep in touch with various things. Have put sim card in and it's asking me to activate i-Pad and offering networks or use mobile connection. As it's a cellular i-Pad I've tried mobile connection but nothing happens, what am I doing wrong ? There are no instructions in box to help.
If anyone can help I would be grateful.
Thanks in advance.

AirPort does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the Internet.
Wi Fi problems
I have recently changed from a old netgear router to using a vigor 120 modem with airport extreme
Internet connection is established but my airport express reports "AirPort does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the Internet." although status is ON and the correct wifi address appears.
My iPhone also identifies the correct network but cannot connect
Any suggestions?I don't have any phones, so not aware of the options, but on a Mac to fix this problem it'd likely be...
Instead of joining it from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed. Before I went through network diagnostics and all of that stuff in system preferences, and then I tried the "Join Other Network" method, and now it works like a dream.
https://discussions.apple.com/message/17028445#17028445
Or...
Go to System Preferences
Click Network
Highlight AirPort and click Configure...
Choose “By default, join: Preferred networks”
Select your access point and Remove your access point with the minus button.
Launch your keychain access in Utilities and delete your access point keychain entry.
Reboot -
Internet works, but I have an exclamation mark instead of AirPort connection and cannot connect to my WiFi.. PLEASE HELP!
When you see an exclamation point in the Wi-Fi menu, from the menu bar, select
▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network
Click the Assist me button and select Assistant. Follow the prompts. You may get a warning that Wi-Fi is not available, that you're too far from the base station, or that you're using the wrong password.
Assuming that you've ruled out those possibilities, restart the computer and try again. If there's no change, click the lock icon in the lower left corner of the preference pane and authenticate, if necessary. From the Location menu at the top of the window, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Applyand test.
If there's still no connection, and if you have control of the router, compare its settings to Apple's recommendations. Some third-party routers may be incompatible in 802.11b/g/n radio mode. Try setting the mode to 802.11n only. -
I have the iPhone 5s and cannot connect to iTunes. It always says 'iPhone device timed out' and never connects. How do I fix it?
Hi Kaitlynlh,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. If your device is timing out, I would try restarting the iPhone and attempting to connect again. If the issue still persists, try resetting as well. You can find instructions here:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

I can print from my macbook pro using airport express usb connected printer, however my iPad and iphone are looking for an airprint printer. Can I direct the iPad/iphone to the usb connected printer. Macbook iphone and iPad confirm a wifi connection through the airport express.
You will need to install an App like Print Central on the iPad to try to print to the printer. It will allow you to print to most printers. Check with their support folks if you need more info.

Just installed IOS 8 to iphone 5 and cannot connect to WI FI. Sometimes connects and when I begin to use the phone ot drops out.
I have attempted all the regular trouble shoots such as resets, complete restore and reinstallation of ios 8. no change.I don't have an answer for you but from my experience iOS WiFi syncing has always been a hit and miss affair (more miss than hit I'm afraid). I have gotten to the stage where I rarely use the WiFi sync. It is just quicker, easier and much less stressful to use the USB cable. I am having the same issues with all the iOS devices in our family which includes various models of iPhone, iPad and an iPod Touch and have been having them since WiFi syncing was introduced (in iOS5 ???). And then I have not even mentioned my favorite iTunes syncing messages: "Waiting for items to copy" and "Waiting for changes to be applied"!
iTunes is always extremely quick and eager to pick up the devices but as soon as I click on sync it shows "Looking for iDevice" and then the device disappears. I have found that initiating the sync from the Settings app on the device prevents this issue.
It does however seem as if it is worse with Windows 7. I did not have so many issues with my previous Windows Vista PC.
Sorry I cannot be of any help. -
How to use iMac w/Airport and DSL connection as a wireless router ???
My iMac G5 (with Airport) is connected via Ethernet to a DSL modem.
I want to connect my iBook G3 (non-Airport) wirelessly through the G5 to access the internet in a small home network, (without a standalone router).
I have a USB adapter (ASUS wl-167G) and MAC OS drivers for the iBook. I seem to be getting a connection to the Airport card in the G5, but nothing to the modem with Safari or Firefox.
I need some detailed instructions on setting up the iMac to access the DSL normally AND pass through a wireless connection for the iBook.
Future plans are to buy an Airport Express for stereo and printer purposes.
If using the Express will greatly simplify what I'm trying to do here, please advise so, (and how), and I'll get one now.
Thanks
KenThanks sig, but I am already set up that way. Also in sharing>internet>
Airport options: channel-automatic, firewall-off, services-on (file sharing,Etc.)
Network Status shows: Built -in -Ethernet, active and a IP address. Airport, sharing is on and using Airport and an ID #
I also tried setting Airport to channel 11 (what the USB "Dongle" is connected to).
Still no joy.
I think I may need to manually configure both Airport TCP/IP in the iMac, and the USB Adapter in the iBook but I don't know what values to enter for IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Router.
In way over my head, here. Any additional help is greatly appreciated.
Ken

Trying to register new iPhone 4 for the first time. iTunes store says its busy and cannot connect. I have tried many times over 2 days but no luck. What can I try.
Hello,
Almost a year later and I'm experiencing this exactly situation now.
I was in the middle of the process of data migration from iPhone 4 to 4S and due to really slow download speed restoring iCloud backup, I interrupted the process and started a new full restore process through USB and iTunes (reset all setting and configurations on the 4S and did a local machine backup of the old 4 and asked to restore from that).
After a full successful restore process, I'm trying to delete the old iPhone 4 2GB backup in iCloud and the error message saying that "this backup cannot be deleted because its being used to restore another device, or backup is currently in progress".
Of course I ran out of spece (iPad, old iPhone 4 and new iPhone 4S backups) and I tried everything, disabling iCloud, deleting from my MBP, from iPad, and no success.
I cannot restore the old 4 and deactivate iCloud backup because I don't have this phone anymore, probably it's already in use by another person.
PS: iOS6, Mountaing Lion
Any ideas?
Thanks
