Never used Bootcamp- need to install 3ds Max program?

Latest version of 10.5. I have never used bootcamp/fusion/ any windows side of the mac ever. I am now being told I need to install 3ds max on my Mac. Company not supporting the PC side anymore- plus my PC is beat and could not run 3ds max.
Someone educate me about the process? I have not touched a PC in over 10-12 years.
Any tutorials out there explaining how to run bootcamp, how to install the Windows OS?

You need anti-virus software in the Windows system for sure. However, if you're asking whether the Mac system needs anti-virus software, the answer is that it doesn't need it any more than it normally would. The presence of a Windows system does not increase the threat of Mac malware in the slightest.

  • Do I need to install an antivirus program on my new MBP?

I have just purchased a new MacBook Pro.  I see that Symantec has a free Norton antivirus app for the Mac OS; do I need to install an antivirus program, or does my operating system come with one already installed?
    Thanks.

I'm not disagreeing with you by any means, but why wouldn't you recommend Norton? I've read tons of reviews and they say that it is competent and I'm planning to get it. For my PC [I've never had Antivirus on my current 2009 MBP] I've used Kapersky.
Just curious, as Mac is getting somne popularity so viruses are bound to pop up [more often] for Mac in the future, and I'm trying to future proof my Mac for at least 3-4 years.

  • Need to install a mileage program and need help.

I need to install a mileage program on my ideapad S10.  I have the cd and the code to make the program work.  How do I get this installed on my Ideapad?  Please give precise and clear directions.  I don't want to screw this up and end up having problems.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

    1. Easiest way is to purchase or borrow an external CD player, of course, or
    2. Contact the original company and pay to download an installable version.
    3. Bring your S10 & CD to a local computer store. They should install your program for cheap.
    4. Find a downloadable replacement mileage program online. Here is one..

  • I was using bootcamp assistant to install windows 7 via flash drive, i followed the steps, the Windows installation image was installed successfully and the boot camp partition was made andy mac restarted then i got this message "no bootable device insert

"..no bootable device insert boot disk and press any key", i restarted my mac and held options and managed to log in to my OS x again but my windows wasn't installed and when i held options while my mac was starting the usb flash drive wasn't there, what should i do? Also can i restore my usb flash drive to use it as a regular flash drive again?

    Hi Michael!
Yep, I did get this running. Not in a normal way (meaning the easy way). What I did, is that I just created the BOOTCAMP partition in OS X. Just let it format and create the partition where you would install BOOTCAMP.
After that I discovered that via a ISO program (WinClone) you can directly restore a previously created OS X boot image to your current computer. So, I installed a blank Windows 7 to my macbook pro, didint install any drivers and just let it work up then. Then I went back to os X (in macbook pro) and made a bootimage for the BOOTCAMP partition. After that I saved it to my external harddrive and wired it to my iMac. In iMac I just downloaded the same boot-image program and restored the bootimage that I made in Macbook Pro to iMac. After that I made an restart and the bootcamp section with windows worked well with my iMac. Install the bootcamp soft and you can do everything and everything works. FYI, you get the windows working via those steps, BUT if you either delete or do anything to make your bootcamp partition unworkable then you will have to repeat those steps again. But it´s fast non-the-less, so it shouldn´t be a problem for you.
If you didin´t understand anything or something doesen´t add up, send me a letter or a notification.
    Hope this helps.
    Indrek.

  • Unable to access the internet on windows xp using bootcamp. I installed the bootcamp drivers ( from snow leopard) but it still doesn't work. I have parallels 6 also installed and IT works fine. I am missing a rtl network adapter-thanksr

    Hi
I have a new 21 inch imac oct 2011 version. I installed bootcamp and windows xp on my machine and i also installed parallels 6.
Paralleles works great and i can open any program with it. But bootcamp also works EXCEPT it refuses to give me access to the internet. I installed the bootcamp drivers from my snow leopard disk, it did not make a difference. All the drivers installed but still no internet. I then installed the bootcamp drivers from the gray mac osx disk (#1) but it stopped installing with an error number ( 2753) and it said that the package was damaged.
I have tried everything; i opened each disk and trieed installing the files separately. Nothing.
What i see missing in my devices screen in XP is the network adapter.
I have a router (dlink-dr615) and it is connected by ethernet to my imac. I wonder if THIS might have anything to do with the problem. Any guidance would be much appreciated.
    Thank you

I'd recommend reposting in the Boot Camp forum, that is where the Boot Camp and Windows gurus hang out.
    Good luck.

  • How do i install using bootcamp without lion install disk ?, how do i install using bootcamp without lion install disk ?

i want to download windows to play windowx games but when i bought my i mac it came with lion on it already so ho do i download windows without the lion disk?

You need to watch more updated videos. Do as I suggested earlier and read the documentation. All is explained including how you download the drivers. The video you were watching must be a few years old and well out of date.

  • 3ds max on iMac OS X 10.9.4

    Hello,
    I just purchased an iMac 27 inch OS X 10.9.4 // 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5.
I need to install 3ds max studio on my device as soon as possible, I was told to buy a windows operating system and then install it on the iMac and start using it via bootcamp.
May I know which version do I have to buy to start using 3ds max. I searched and the result was not to buy 8.1 version because it is not compatible.
If anyone managed to install the program please let me know, I need it to start doing my projects.
    Thank You,

Well, no one is replying to you so I'll just jump in here, although I'm no expert.
First of all there is this thread elsewhere:  can i use 3dsmax 2015 on a mac via bootcamp
Second, I did run 3DS Max successfully on an iMac but that was several years ago on an older system so I don't know how current hardware and software will interact.
Thirdly, there are a number of threads here about how to install Windows on your iMac. Once you have Windows up and running you then install and run 3DS Max within Windows. To find out if your version of Max and your version of Windows are compatible you have to look at the system requirements for your version of 3DS Max which are available from Autodesk. Any questions about that are probably more suited to a 3DS Max forum.

  • Can I restore my mac from a Time Machine backup once I have used BootCamp to partition and set up Windows (without erasing all of the Windows content)?

A few months ago I partitioned my mac using BootCamp and successfully installed Windows and a few Windows-only programs (games).  I never restored my mac from the Time Machine backup and now I would really like all of my files back on my mac.  I am wondering if I insert the osx install disc and restore from Time Machine backup, will that get rid of the partition I made for Windows?  Will the Windows side of my hard drive stay in tact or will everything on that side get erased when I restore the mac side from the Time Machine backup.  It was a HUUUUUUUGE pain to do the BootCamp partition and get everything Windows set up and I would really like to not have to do that all over again.  I just want to make sure that if I insert the mac osx install disc and restore from Time Machine backup it will only affect the Mac partition, NOT the Windows partition.

    Hi,
Time Machine does not touch your BootCamp Windows.
It simply said ignores it completely.
Nonetheless, I am curious as to why you wanna restore a Time Machine backup.
Usually during partitioning with the BootCamp Assistant in OSX to make the Windows partition your OSX stays intact.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • Windows XP SP2 32bit and 3ds max 2010

Hi. I installed on my MacBook Pro Bootcamp and Windows XP. I downloaded the trial version od 3ds max 2010. However, when I try to install it a message pops up "Cant find End User License Agreement". This is a brand new Mac and none Autodesk software was installed here before. I dont know what to do, and I must run 3ds max. Can someone help me? The version of Bootcamp is 2.0

Interesting. The Autodesk documentation says you ought to be able to install 3ds max 2010 on your configuration. So I don't think we're looking at a generalised compatibility problem:

Just checking a couple of things from the installation instructions:
Does your XP user account have full administrative rights?
Have you closed all applications and background applications prior to starting the install?

  • Windows XP - Bootcamp ---need mouse controls

I just partitioned my MacBook Pro (10.6.6) HD using Bootcamp. I installed Windows XP and noticed that the only response from my mouse pad while in Windows is only when I hard-press the mouse pad. I have no double-click or finger scroll capabilities. I have read other posts in reference to downloading applications but they mainly pertain to Windows 7, Vista or mice that I don't have. Is there a DL available to allow me to control my built in mouse pad so that I can have full functionality as in my MAC OSX?

True.  There are no XP drivers available for the 2011 MacBook Pros.  So even though the 2011 MacBook Pro can run XP, without any XP drivers available, you can't take advantage of any of the hardware in the 2011 MacBook Pro.  I tried to find the AMD Radeon HD 6490M driver on the internet, and AMDs site directs you back to the OEM manufacturer.  So since Apple did not write XP drivers for the new hardware, you can't effectively run XP.  So it looks like you are stuck with Windows 7 if you need to run a specific Windows program.
I did a further search on the internet and found Dell and HP OEM vendor drivers for the AMD Radeon HD 6490M, and their system requirements are also Windows 7.  So you can't even find an XP driver no matter where you search, because they just don't exist.

  • Only boots to windows after using bootcamp

    Hello,
I tried using bootcamp today and installed Windows 8. My machine now only boots to Windows 8, but without any network support (just to make life more difficult) and I have no access to OS X. I have used the Windows computer manager to view the disc partitions and these seem right and what I expect.
Is there something that would allow me to change how my mac boots, or can anyone offer any advice? The machine is only a couple of weeks old and so all drivers and operating system is up to date.
    Thanks.

    Hello Bob,
Thank you for your quick reply. I didn't download anything. I went to the Apple site and watched the video to see how it is done and then to Boot camp assistant, where I choose a fresh install of Windows. The option did say Windows 7 or later! I didn't know Win 8 is not supported.
Now I have a Win 8 install and for the most part it seems okay - just need to be able to install a network driver!
You must download the Windows Support software then after booting into Windows you must install the downloaded software. This software includes the Bootcamp Windows drivers (including the network drivers). But, there are no Windows 8 Bootcamp drivers http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1899.

  • 3DS Max On Parallels or Boot Camp?

    Hi,
I want to install 3DS Max and go back forth between 3DS max and other programs. I installed a 30 trail on Parallels and it goes really slow, I haven't even tried to render. On the other hand, if I install it on Boot Camp, I would have to go back and forth and it would be a pain. Would anyone know how get 3Ds Max to run better on Parallels or an easier solution than going back and forth from Boot Camp? Also, is it possible to connect an ethernet cable to PC to the mac and go back and forth?
    Thanks a lot!,
    Zevie

I would think you should at least give Boot Camp a test drive. The problem with either Parallels or Fusion is the sharing resources part. It's great for jumping back and forth but system resources can get stretched thin in a hurry.
I'm pretty sure that in Parallels your video performance is going to be a serious issue. In a virtualized environment like Parallels or Fusion this video performance is fine for Word, Excel, Acrobat etc., but doesn't come close in apps that require a big contribution from the video card.
If it's Vista that you loaded via Parallels, then check the Windows Experience Index that can tell you a lot about system performance.

  • Installing BootCamp for 3DS Max

I'm in a quandary. I need to decide if I should build a new PC, or install Windows 7 64 bit on my Mac Pro. I see topics about slow speeds or things not working properly.
3DS Max users say the program should 'theoretically' run better on a Mac - but no one has actually tried it.
Is there anyone here that can actually verify that it's stable?

I downloaded 3ds max on my dad's Mac Pro which runs windows xp (not bootcamp partitioned) on parallels. It took a while to get the bugs out and to get it started. I hasten to add that the version I had was a beta version from Autodesk student site, so that is no way indicative of the professional version, if indeed that is what you have. Once it started I didn't have much problem with it, however I haven't used it extensively, nor am I fluent in the program. I guess what I am saying is that as long as you have the ram and service packs etc up to date, which my Dad's MP hadn't been done in a while so that was part of the extra time, running 3d max on Mac pro isn't a problem, its mostly issues and bugs with autodesk and windows that were particular issues and not so much any hardware issue with the mac pro itself. I'd give it a shot on the mac pro and if it is completely awful then go for the new PC.
