Never Used Skype Number Before - Help!

I am going on my honeymoon to Virgin Islands.  Can my elderly mother in the US call my US Skype Number from her landline to reach me in case of an emergency or do I need to set up a Virgin Island Skype number?

Hello,
Yes she can. Your US Skype Number travels with you anywhere. Your location is irrelevant as  long as your computer or device has a high speed internet connection.
TIME ZONE - US EASTERN. LOCATION - PHILADELPHIA, PA, USA.
I recommend that you always run the latest Skype version: Windows & Mac

    Pct,
In the Numbers spreadsheets window where all your documents are shown as icons, tap the Plus Sign.
    Choose Create Spreadsheet
Select the template you want to use

  • Never used microphone input before, sound recorder window okay, no sound output.

Sound from sound recorder input goes nowhere, a sound window is supposed to open, it does not.
There is some software missing in my pavilion g7 laptop.  Media player sound is fine, internet sound
is fine, only sound missing is from the microphone input.  The sound recorder window is open and the
recording bar is moving as the input varies, how do I get the sound to the speakers.  Never used this
option before, it might be defective from the factory.
    This question was solved.

Problem solved.  You cannot turn on computer with the microphone or other audio cable plugged in.
Otherwise the computer does not respond to the inputs, you have to plug in the microphone or audio
cable after logging in and then a window will open that allows you to select the that input over the default.

After an update or installation, your MBP may take some time to index its files. Give it some time - but if you don't see any improvement, post here - you'll get an answer!

  • Caller identification while using Skype Number

Hi, I live in Canada and set up a Skype Number locates in HongKong to make my friends call me more easily. But soon I found that I could not identify who is the caller when someone is calling my Skype Number.
    For instant,
When I log off the Skype App and use "Call Forward" function of Skype, if someone calls my HK's Skype Number, it always displays "+10000123456" and I cannot know who is the caller except I pickup the phone.
While if I run the Skype App in the backgourd of my cell phone, and someone calls my Skype Number, the skype app will pop up but only shows "Unknow Number"
Could you give me some advice to solve this problem?
    Thanks

There may not be much that can be done.  Caller ID from the telephone network to your Skype Number is controlled by the telephone carrier(s) where your Skype Number is located (Hong Kong). Not all carriers in all countries send Caller ID information to the Skype Number.  When your friends in Hong Kong call each other on their phones, do they see the Caller ID information on those calls?  This may not help your situation when receiving calls on your Skype number, but would at least verify that your friends' phones are sending the Caller ID information out when they call someone.
    Good luck!

  • Using skype number

I'm still a little confused as to using a Skype number. I signed up for one using my local area code. We are traveling to Costa Rica. Can my daughter just call that number (she is using the same local area code) from her cell phone (not on Skype) and it will be sent to us without any cost to either of us?  Can I only answer it on my lap top without cost or can I also answer it on my cell phone down there through the Skype app?  Does the cell phone carrier (Verizon) charge us for usage? Obviously I'm concerned about cell charges from Verizon and how to get around them for as little as possible. Thanks for any help that someone can provide.

You can use a Skype ATA adapter like the Freetalk Connect Me.  It's a standalone device that allows you to use your Skype account like a landline.  I use it with my wireless DECT phone system and I'm pleased with the quality.  It does not work or interact with Microsoft accounts, but is compatible with transitional Skype IDs.

  • SD card is suddenly read only (and it never used to be before).

I'm not tech-svvy at all, so I'll try to be as detailed as I can with my problem and hopefully some patient soul will be able to give me some step by step instructions on how to fix this haha.
I've had my MacBook Pro for about a year now and I haven't had a problem with transfering photos from my phone and camera onto it. My camera has an SD card and my phone has a Micro SD.
As of a few days ago, I've noticed that when I insert my SD card into the slot, there's an icon to the top left side of the window when I open it that never used to be there. It kind of looks like a pencil with a line going through it, but it still let me transfer photos to my computer, so I didn't think anything of it.
When I tried to transfer photos from my phone's Micro SD, it does the same thing. I can still transfer pictures to the computer without a problem.
The issue becomes when I want to transfer photos from my computer to the card for my camera or the one for my phone. I've tried to look through similar questions on here and elsewhere on the internet, but all I've been able to gather is that the little pencil with a line through it means my cards are in "Read Only" mode as opposed to the "Read and Write" that they should be in.
I don't recall making any changes to any sort of settings on this computer and I haven't had any recent updates to the software.
Also, none of the cards are locked. I know there's a little swtich to the side of them that manually makes them read only, but I never touch them and they're always 'unlocked' as it were.
Can anyone guide me through getting these settings back to the way they were?
(Since I'm technologically illiterate, I have no idea what operating system I'm on, so I apologize if this is an important factor in helping me.)

The contact inside the SD card slot could be dirty. you can try to clean them by shutting the system down, get some electrical contact cleaner and put a small amount on the SD card contacts and push it in and out a few times. Let it dry for a few minutes (most of these type contact cleaners alcohol based and dry fairly fast) and power up the system. See if the cards are now Read+Write.
Also check the cards to see if the little switch hasn't been pushed into the Lock setting.
Even though these card may work in your camera and or phone they may be at the end of there life cycle. Try a NEW card and see if that makes a difference.
As a last resort you can always buy a external card reader and connect it to a USB port. Some SD cards come with a small SD card reader that plugs directly into a USB port. The only problem I've had with them is that some of them do not go in all the way on MBPs. The case of the MBP stops them from inserting all the way and or if you have something else plugged in to the other USB port there isn't enough room, right to left, to insert another device. Or you could spend some more money and have Apple Care fix it, that is if none of the above work.
    Good Luck.

  • Best way to use Skype number with phones/PC?

I am considering switching my home business phone to a Skype number.  The ideal useage solution would be to be able use Skype on my PC while at my desk, and route to the phone (or my cell) at other times.
I see that you offer the FreeTalk Home adapter, and also Skype enabled phones, but it is not clear which combination of devices/services I need.
Advice on how to do accomplish this would be appreciated.
    Thanks much.

If I take what you said in the first paragraph as what you want to do, there are ways to do that without buying a Skype-specific phone or that adapter.  You would need to use Call Forwarding, pointing to a phone number that your Skype account would send unanswered calls to.  You would need to either purchase Skype Credit or a subscription to cover calls to that phone number.  For more than a handful of calls a month, a subscription would probably be the best (and cheapest) option.  You could set the Call Forwarding to send calls to several numbers simultaneously, and then Skype would connect the call to the first phone from that list that answers the forwarded call.
If you have a mobile phone that can run a Skype app, you could also use that to be logged into Skype.  You could be logged into Skype from both the computer and a mobile phone.

  • I've never used a mac before

i've never had a mac before so i'm only familiar with windows. i'm getting a laptop for college and i'm considering buying a mac. a couple of my friends have them and they only say good thigns about them. however my dad is really hesitant on me buying a mac because he's afraid i'll need a program that's not compatible with the software. also he's worried that my plug-ins like printer/digital camera won't work. and he didn't know if they ran all types of cd and dvds that are on the market. overall he's just a worry-wart but maybe if there's good answers to all these questions i'll be able to reassure him. so for everyone who has used a mac what do you think?

i've never had a mac before so i'm only familiar with

    considering buying a mac. a
A MacBook Pro can run both OS X and Windows using Boot Camp
however my dad is really hesitant on me buying a mac

    compatible with the software.
There are usually a Mac alternatives for most software.
As the MacBook Pro can run Windows if push came to shove you could use Boot Camp to install Windows and run the needed Windows software that way.
    also he's worried that
    my plug-ins like printer/digital camera won't work.
Generally cameras and printers work fine with the Mac. Check the printer and camera manufacturers' website for Mac drivers.
and he didn't know if they ran all types of cd and
dvds that are on the market.
A Mac can run virtually all CDs and DVDs that any generic PC can.
If a PC has written a proprietary format CD (ie a packet CD) then only it and Macs (and other PCs for that matter) won't be able to read it.
    overall he's just a
worry-wart but maybe if there's good answers to all
these questions i'll be able to reassure him. so for
everyone who has used a mac what do you
    think?
There are lots of benefits to running a Mac.

  • Is there any way I can use Skype Number with Viber...

Hello. With my Skype Number is there any way I can use it with Viber? So I give my Skype NUmber to a friend and they add me on Viber? Or do I have to divert my skype numebr to my actual number?

Hi, if you give your Skype number to your friend they can make a Viber Out call to that number if they have some viber credit. Calls to landlines are usually cheap but it depends where in the world your friend is calling from.
Have you got a Viber account too ? Viber to Viber over the Internet is free, like Skype to Skype being free. Persoanally I have both networks now.
Viber is on smartphones, some feature phones and there's a desktop app too. Your Viber account is based upon the mobile number you register and Viber recognises phone numbers of your contacts to see if they're registered on Viber too.

  • Using Skype number for America

    Morning Skypers!
I'm looking for a bit of advice. I have a Skype number here in the UK which allows clients to ring a landline number and I can answer in Skype. It works well and I'm very happy with it.
What I would like to do is set up another Skype number for the US. This way clients in the US, without Skype, can call a US number and get through to me inexpensively. What I'm looking for is some clarification on calling charges in the US as I know there are long distance costs which I'm trying to avoid. Which state should I set the number up in so the maximum number of clients in the US can call the number without paying long-distance charges?
If I'm barking up the wrong tree and it is the same price to call every state if you are a US citizen then let me know but I'm pretty sure it costs more for some states to call others.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jack
