New 10.5.6 problem.

Hi all you nice volunteers. I hope this post of mine doesn't count as a "re-post", but my problem hasn't been answered and I have another one, and can't find any solutions in the forum. So here it is and please some one give me a clue.
Old unsolved problem "My iPhoto program takes about 3 minutes to load, since 10.5.6 .?
NEW problem " When I shut my computer down and start again the next day (or restart). My monitor screen back light goes about 2/3 down to very dim lighting and my speaker turns off completely to Zero.
I mean it's not very hard to fix that with the key pad as you know, but why? What's going on?
Any help is appreciated. Sincerely the old guy.

Caroline you are so nice. Meanwhile I had figured it out to use the first install disk. Everything is fine.
And thank you for your empathy. It's no big deal and I live in a Senior home in downtown Los Angles with a spectacular view over the city. But taking my Mac to Apple, they charge a arm and a leg for just filling out the paperwork.... Please see my response to your help below.
"Do still think I have a logic board problem?" It's impossible to be sure without taking it in to have it checked. Run the Apple Hardware Test as I describe below.
I went to the Apple store about a year or so and asked them why my hard ware test didn't work. They told me since I had an upgrade from one OS to another (I think from Panther to Tiger or something like that, I can't recall) it wouldn't work anymore and threw my Hardware Disk in the trash with the comment "It isn't very reliable anyway". So I figured it isn't very important if they say so, and I never had a hardware disk again. I figured DiskWarrior was good enough.
"So the iPhoto still needs still 2 minutes to load, but maybe (?) that is normal for load"
A 4GB iPhoto library is going to slow iPhoto from launching as quickly as it used to for sure.
That is good to know and I am in no rush. But basically I thought with the upgrade it would open even faster then the 15 sec. it always opened up before. Had always about the Same size 4 GB.
So it looks like things are pretty much back to normal on my laptop but for the DiskWarrior program that crashes. Isn't that ironic?
Before I will thank you again for your help I will come back here and tell you the DiskWarrior results.
Have a great day, sincerely Volker.
