New 15" HD PB's have digital audio in/out - what about older

I'm wondering if the digital audio in/out capability on the 15" is new to the HD 1.67's or was this on earlier models? I have a 1.25GHz and I'm guessing I don't have it on mine.
Thanks,
Tim

This feature has been introduced to 15" with the release of the new PBs.

  • Audio drops out for about 2 seconds after about 2 hours

Hey folks....I've been renting HD movies, and I've noticed a bit of a pattern. Three times now, at some point just after about two hours the audio drops out for about two seconds. It's not exactly the same time - on one movie it was at 2:02:26 and another it was at 2:04:18. It's only two seconds, so it's really of no consequence. Just now it was during the closing credits (the music). Before, it was that scene in Batman where the two ferries are stalled on the river.
Of course, I would rewind to make sure. I use the optical out.
    Anyone else notice this?

Do a hard reset. Hold the power and home buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears.

  • How to use the Digital Audio in & out RCA jacks a6010n

On the lower right of the back of my Pavillion a6010n desktop, above the mouse and keboard connections and below the monitor connection are two RCA jacks labeled Digital Audio in and out.  The top one has an orange insulator and is labeled "out", and the lower one has a black insulator and is labeled "in".  I have been unable to find any information about these or how to use them.  Can anyone please tell me or direct me to information about this?  I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit and have added a Sound Blaster Audigy sound card which is cheap but has a better S/N ratio.  In Control Panel --> Sound the digital output for the sound card is listed but there is nothing about the Digital Audio jacks I would like to be able to use.  Thank you all.

Yes there is. I suggest trolling these boards for the 3rd party remote solutions that will free you to use the remote in ANY application like Winamp, Notepad, Windows Media Player, etc.
    Just my two opinionated cents...

  • No digital audio in/out - help

Cannot establish a digital audio out/in connection. Stuck in analog mode. When I plug in a mini toslink the audio OX driver audio device indicates "headphones". There is no red signal being emitted from the optical cable either. Cable checks out ok on other devices.
Also have windows installed via boot camp. The realtek audio driver also only id's analog (rca)no matter if I insert a mini stereo or mini toslink.
Anyone had similar issues and resolved them.

Am rounding up a couple of different mini tos today to see if there is any connection. I did check my original cable and the jack is a bit longer than a stereo jack. Have fiddled with moving the jack around (gently)
I have played media with optical cable inserted. No output visible or heard.
Hoping this situation ends happy. All mac and no music makes for a dull life.

  • How to get a digital audio stream out of an iPad mini?

For the latest batch of devices that sport the new Lightning connector, is there a supported way to send S/PDIF PCM digital audio to a DAC or home theater receiver? There were docks for the traditional 30-pin connector that do this, but these are now presumably orphaned?  Also, there was a trick with the Camera Connection Kit (CCK) to get USB audio, which would be fine too, but I'm not sure that can be done anymore.
So, do we need to wait for 3rd party docks and connectors to come to market, or is there an official Apple way to do this already?

i would carry to an apple retail store to fix it.
    Peace, Clyde

  • Error Code EF01, Video and Digital Audio Dropping out

    To whom it concerns,
A customer of mine is having problems with his Fios DVR.  He will be watching TV through his Integra DTR 40.3 receiver, connected via HDMI cable and his picture and audio will just stop.  This is always accompanied by a code that displays on the front panel of the DVR which reads EF01.  The customer is usually able to restore picture and audio by performing a power cycle on both the AV receiver and the Fios Box.
There have been numerous occasions of this problem occurring.  Sometimes it happens quite frequently, (once every 10 min) other times much more infrequently.  Also the problems vary in their severety.  Sometimes just the digital audio will drop out but the pitcure will remain. Other times the picture and audio will go out and they will damage the HDMi input that the Fios box is connected to, rendering it unusable.  We have since repaired the Integra recevier twice.  This last repair we haven't had an incident for 3 months, now we are back to losine Audio and Video.
The customer initially had the Fios DVR replaced, but as the incidents kept happening, we tried repairing and replacing the AV receiver.  I keep coming back to that error code because I don't know what it means and nobody can explain to me if it has any significance or bearing on the problems we are having.
Does anybody know what the EF01 error code indicates on the Fios DVR?  Has anyone had problems similar to the one I am describing, regarding HDMI video/audio loss?
    Thanks,
    Kelly White

    Hey, Jared  here.
The EF01 error code means that either the CableCard inside the box isn't getting any signal, or the CableCard isn't sending out any signal. A really efficiant way to see exactly what they problem is, is to take the box to a another location where Fios tv works fine.
    There are two possible outcomes:
Either the box doesn't work, and is still displaying the EF01 error code. Than the issue is with that box, and I must be replaced.
The other possibility is that the box works fine. The error code goes away, and the box works perfect. If this is the case, we know it is the coax wires coming from ONT (Optical Network Terminal). And a Service Technician is required to come out and address the issue.

  • My ipod touch 4th generation no longer holds it's charge for more than 40mins,needs new internal battery but I have no idea how to go about this. i love my ipod and don't want it to loose power completely, can anyone help?

My ipod touch 4th generation no longer holds it's charge for more than 40mins from full power, think it needs a new internal battery but have no idea how to go about this and am no longer covered by my guarantee. Can anyone advise me on what's best? Thanks in advance

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon. The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use an Apple wall-mount charger.  Do NOT use a computer's USB port.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the exact procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know whether or not a battery problem exists.
    According to Apple:
    Use Your iPod Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

  • How can I airplay video to Apple TV but still have the audio come out of my MacBook speakers?

We have a projector with Apple TV connected but facility for Audio at this time. When we airplay a video the sound is obviously not there as it's streaming it to the Apple TV. Is there anyway we can have the video going to the Apple TV for the projector but the audio still come from the MacBook Air? Current models on everything all latest software

  • Optical digital audio in/out?

Could someone explain to me how one plugs an optical audio cable into a 3.5mm mini jack? Am I missing something here?

hi there, how much an adapter like this should cost? I have a cable that looks like this: /Users/Paragon/Desktop/cvz.jpg but my MD inlet is the same as the MacBook's outlet so I though of buying a cable that has its both ends "mini-TOSLINK" (is that the correct name for this side of the cable?) but here there is an adapter that does the job just right, but I am in the czech republic and I wouldn't know where to even look for something like that, and how much should I expect it to cost... so what is the professional term for it?

How do I find out if FileVault is enabled ?

To answer your subject line, see About the Flashback malware.  (Note that my pages contain links to other pages that promote my services, and this should not be taken as an endorsement of my services by Apple.)
I'm not sure what that has to do with FileVault, but to answer that question, go to System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> FileVault.

  • New PB digital audio specs question.

I just looked at the specifications posted on the developer note for the new powerbooks. The digital audio in/out is very welcome. As I read through it, I found that the PB is listed as providing digital audio output via SPDIF AND AC3 formats. The question is, does anyone know if that AC3 output means its passing multichannel AC3 to be decoded outside? or is it a stereo AC3? Can anyone check? thanks... btw, the specs look good for digital in/out.

Thanks for your post, Machive 6.1. I had in fact read that article... in only states the following about AC3:
During playback of a 1KHz, full-scale sine wave (S/PDIF output format, 44.1KHz output sample rate, 24-bit sample depth, unless otherwise specified) the digital audio output has the following nominal specifications:
Jack Type: 3.5mm Analog/Optical Combo Jack
    Output Data Formats: S/PDIF (IEC60958-3), AC3
    Output Sample Rates: 32KHz, 44.1KHz, 48KHz, 64KHz, 88.2KHz, 96KHz
    Bits per Sample: 16 or 24 (S/PDIF),16 (AC3)
    Frequency Response: 20Hz – 20KHz, +/-0dB
    Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR): >130dB
    Total Harmonic Distortion + Noise (THD+N): <-130dB (0.00003%)
    Channel Separation: >130dB
It is not clear whether that is multichannel or stereo AC3 output...
    Anyone has tried it?

  • Digital Audio for DV6936us

Does this DV6000 model had digital audio I/O? The Realtek audio device driver seems to have digital audio capability and I can enable it in Vista but there doesn't seem to be any way to actually use it.
Message Edited by Gary_R on 04-07-2009 06:21 PM

    Yes it does.
If you've downloaded the latest Realtek drivers from your support page the entire package can be controlled by your Control Panel. Go into "Control Panel," then "Sound."
You see the Playback Tab. If your computer is stock you'll see two icons, one for "Speakers" and the other for "Realtek Digital Output." Right-click on "Realtek Digital Output" and you see the menu option "Set as default device." Click it and that's it; you may need to restart your computer to make it take effect, but if you're plugged in to your HDMI monitor as you do this then you probably should anyway since the audio's going to go through that cable and the monitor may not detect the new presence of an audio signal.

  • Optical digital audio input

I have an early 2009 iMac Duo Core 2 with the combo digital audio in/out. I ordered the correct cable which fits perfectly into the back of the iMac. I've plugged the other end into three different audio devices that have digital audio out.
While I get activity on the input level for the Optical digital-in port in system prefs, it does not come out through the iMac speakers. Other sounds (system alerts, iTunes, etc) play through the speakers but getting the computer to play the digital audio input does not work.

There's an excellent little piece of software called LineIn from Rouge Amoeba that does exactly what you're looking for, get it from here: http://rogueamoeba.com/freebies/. I was using it for redirecting sound coming in via an optical cable to iMac's digital line-in to my headphones attached to iMac's audio-out. Also works great for outputting anything coming to digital-in out to an external audio receiver using digital-out. My set-up was: PC, Xbox 360, PS3 all connected to Sony's Bravia screen and passing sound through HDMI (plus a Wii attached to Bravia via analog inputs), Bravia's digital audio out connected to iMac's digital-in and then finally iMac analog/stereo-out --> headphones or iMac digital-out to Logitech's Z-5500 receiver's TOSLINK connector. TV's aren't allowed to stream unencrypted AC3/DTS coming in from HDMI to their digital audio out though so only stereo was available in the above setup (connecting a PC/Xbox360/PS3 using an optical cable with TOSLINK and mini-TOSLINK connectors directly to the digital line-in on iMac does enable one to pass through Dolby Digital/DTS to iMac's line-out and to an external receiver). I'm using past tense here becase Apple decided not to include any audio-in functionality whatsoever on the new line of iMacs (late 2012). Still looking for a solution to that problem (a MacBook Alu 13" is doing the sound redirection in the mean time).

  • Optical digital audio out?

does any one have optical digital audio out to a receiver working? it doesn't work for mp3 through itunes, video purchased on itunes, cds or dvds. works fine with the same setup and a previous generation macbook so i know it's not the receiver or cable.
my fear is that this is a defective design issue related to the displayport hdcp issues. hopefully, my hardware is just malfunctioning.
i was on the phone over an hour with apple troubleshooting, but no one had an answer to the hdcp question.
    thanks.

i took my macbook up to the apple store to the "genius bar". after a few minutes, they just decided to replace the entire macbook. fine. after i got home, i immediately tested the digital out port. it works! fantastic. unfortunately, throughout the course of the night i continued setting up the new macbook. i later try the digital audio out and now it's not working.
this morning i'm trying it again and it's working, briefly. i've found that by moving the cable around near the output jack that the sound will come and go. i tried a different cable with the same results. although it seemed to work less frequently. both cables in different devices (including a previous generation macbook) work fine.
i've also noticed some of the comments on this forum and others (i think they were referring to different notebook models) about people having problems with the internal speakers not reactivating after unplugging headphones. my guess now is that the headphone jacks are just poorly designed, manufactured or i'm just unlucky.
i would think it's definitely not an hdcp or other content protection issue.
i guess i could exchange for another macbook, but with 2 having this problem it's seeming less likely another one will work out. i guess i could just be really unlucky and maybe 3rd times a charm. my only other alternatives as i see it are returning it or just living with the digital audio out not working (annoying, but everything should work on a $1500 laptop).

  • Audio In/Optical Digital Audio In

I have a pair of JBL Duet computer speakers connected to the Headphone Out port of my Mac mini. They work fine.
QUESTION: Is it possible to play a 5-disc carousel CD player (Sony/JVC/Sherwood) through the Mac mini & those speakers WITHOUT first going through an amplifier?
On the CD players, I see three (3) possibilities using an adapter cable into the mini's Audio In/Optical Digital Audio In port:
    1. Headphone Jack w/Volume Control > Could an analog cable be used to go from the CD player's front 1/4" headphone jack to a 3.5mm stereo mini-phono jack into the mini? Would a CD player's front panel headphone jack provide sufficient volume, or just enough for headphones?
    2. Analog > Use the CD player's rear L/R analog out (RCA-type) into the mini's 3.5mm stereo mini-phono jack. Would there be sufficient volume without an amplifier?
    3. Digital > Use the CD player's rear Digital Audio (Optical) Out to the mini's Optical Digital Audio In. Would there be sufficient volume without an amplifier?
Any advice/recommendation with specific info on appropriate adapter cable would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Mac mini Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Thanks, good thought.
I believe this variation will work also: I see your idea requires Quicktime Pro for that new recording (monitoring) function. I only have Quicktime Player (no recording), but I do have Toast 8's CD Spin Doctor, which will provide the same monitor/output function (select "Play Input through Speakers" and slide speaker icon to the right).
Other readers-- If any other cable connections work, please add to the discussion. Thanks.
