New 160 Gig Classic locked up

If I push the hold button and then push the Menu and the Center Button. Will this help and will I lose my music, photos, and TV?
Thanks,

WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY NEW CLASSIC?

Enable your iPod for disk use: Using your iPod as a storage drive
1. In iTunes, select your iPod classic in the source list and click the Summary tab.
2 In the Options section, select “Enable disk use.”
3 Click Apply.
Something to remember about using an iPod enabled for disk use is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Having some trouble with my new 160 gb Classic

    Hello all!
I recently purchased a new 160 gb classic. I synced it with iTunes and had no problems, all my music transferred fine. Now, I'm having a weird issue. My iPod is set to automatically sync. I want it to be set to manually sync so that I can erase songs from my library after they are on the iPod. I do this, and it works after I click apply, but then it goes wrong. I try and sync songs manually by dragging them to the iPod and it tells me the sync faild and to disconnect, reconnect, and try again. I eject my iPod from itunes and it leaves iTunes, but the screen still says Connected, do not disconnect. It never changes to the Okay to Disconnect screen. I disconnect the ipod anyway, and then if I plug it back in, iTunes doesn't recognize it. If I quit iTunes at this point, it will not re open. I have to Force Quit it and after I do, it still won't open. The only way to fix it is by restarting my laptop. When I do this, iTunes recognizes the iPod again, but it is set to automatically sync, starting my problem all over again. Does anyone have any idea what I can do?

    In your iTunes Preference->Devices
Tick ON - Prevent iPods, iPho... from syncing automatically.
         Click OK
Then in your Device Summary, -> Options
tick ON - Manually Manage Music and videos.
    Good Luck!

  • 160 gig classic cover?

Sounds kinda dumb with the problems some of you are having, but I'm trying to find a silicone skin for my 160 gig classic and am out in the boonies. Would appreciate any help you can provide for online locations for finding a good cover to protect my iPod, prefereably silicone, but a hard case would be OK too. I have a leather case that came with it but it's thick and bulky and I'd like something a little more sleek. Thanks.

Games can only be played on the iPod. They cannot be viewed via the TV.

  • Purchased, mp3 and Podcasts won't sync to 160 gig classic

I have a six-month-old iPod Classic 160 gig, with about 90 gig of music and 10 gig of video on it. In the last two weeks, though, iTunes tells me that 109 tracks won't sync, with the error message "because they cannot be played on this iPod." Some of them, homegrown movies, I understand, but others are either podcasts downloaded through the iTunes store, purchased music (Sheryl Crow's new album) or recently ripped tracks that I did through iTunes using either 128 AAC or Apple Lossless. Most of the ones I've noticed to date were imported in the last 2-3 weeks, and play fine on iTunes, just not the iPod.
I've tried restoring the iPod and deauthorizing then reauthorizing the computer. Neither works. The next step, I think, would be to rebuild my library, but I have tons of playlists I don't want to recreate (or export/import one-by-one, which is how it looks like have to do it).
I can't help but wonder if this is something related to the latest updates to iTunes, seeing as how it's a such a new phenomenon, and there seem to be several similar posts (although not exactly my situation) in discussions.
I welcome any and all suggestions!

Podcasts are completely independent of Apple and iTunes, they're not from iTunes itself. All iTunes does is list the podcast and tell iTunes where to go and find it if you ask to download it. There are other (non-iTunes) Podcast catchers which do the same thing for other MP3 players. So I think that when listing podcasts on iTunes, Apple/iTunes does not consider it's playablity - because it's a podcast and that's the way of Podcasts! Also, the podcaster has probably not produced these podcasts specifically for the iPod and so has not realised that they don't work on our iPods as you and I expect them to.
You could try sending feedback to the podcast creator, explaining that their Podcasts don't play on the iPod itself. They may +_or may not_+ do something about it.
I've had this problem with both audio and video Podcasts. There is an option to convert selections for the iPod which I have tried for the videos, (click on the top menu and *Advanced/Convert selection for iPod/iPhone*. However, this process takes forever and I gave up trying it. I simply watch them in iTunes. I cannot actually remember what I did for the audio Podcasts, but if I right-click (in Windows that is..) on an audio Podcast, I see the option to *convert selection to AAC*. I don't promise that it will work, but you could give it a try.
As for the Sheryl Crow album , if it was purchased from iTunes, I would expect it to play on the iPod without converting it. The same goes for tracks ripped using iTunes on your PC. I can't explain that, perhaps someone else can?

  • 160 gig classic froze as soon as plugged in

I plugged my 160 gig iPod classic into my computer to sync it, and as soon as I plugged it in, it completely froze and remains lit up and frozen. It also will not show up in my iTunes as a plugged-in device. Please help!

I can assure you that Lenovo support is excellent. It's handled by the same original IBM division in Atlanta Georgia. They are there for you 24/7 every day. I would not hesitate to give them a call, as it's also beneficial for them to hear from you. If it's not reported, they won't be aware of it. Many things like this do not show up in the very extensive testing that Lenovo does before releasing a new model. Therefore we are helping them by reporting these issues. Please let us know the outcome of your call....

  • ITunes 11.1.3 and a 160 gig Classic iPod....

I got a brand new imac and I have an ipod classic 160. Everything synced musically etc etc but I do not see calendars. Is there no way for the classic to sync with calendars since it is not backed up to the icloud? I exported all the calendars and dragged them into the calendars folder on the ipod as it was disk enabled and everything shows up but my question is going forward....what or how does it sync or am i just SOL since I don't have an iTouch.
    Any insight?
    Thanks!!!

Select "Show Sidebar" under View menu, you will then see the familiar iTunes sidebar and you'll be able to select your iTunes playlist and drop songs into your iPod playlist.
Select "Hide Sidebar" under View menu, select iPod button top right, select "On this iPod" tab, select Music, click "Add to.." tab on top right which will pin your iPod to the right window, then select Playlist view tab, and drag and drop your songs to your iPod playlist.
Other option is using "right click" or the "triangle" dropdown next to songs, select "add to playlist", and scroll to your iPod playlist.
There are are no multiple windows in iTunes 11, and you can't move songs between iTunes playlists using the right sidebar, but it works for moving iTunes to iPod playlists.
iTunes 11 attempted to simplify its interface and ease-of-use but failed miserably. Make sure to select "Enable list view in all media" in iTunes Preferences for easier navigation.

  • Brand new 160 gig freezes itunes

I just got a brand new macbook pro along with a 160 gb ipod...everything was working fine and great but now every time i plug in my ipod it freezes itunes and will not respond. My ipod has 13707 songs on it and automatically updates to my itunes if that has anything to do with it

If it were me I would begin with:
    1. Investigate the file of the song it gets stuck copying. Is there anything different about it?
    2. Restore the software on the iPod (even though it's new and you shouldn't have to)
    3. Re-install iTunes. If you backup everything located in the iTunes folder that is located within "Music" you shouldn't have to re-build your iTunes library - that is if all your music is located in that folder.

  • IPOD 160 GIG CLASSIC

having issue with ipod to turn on giving error measage example showing big (X) in middle of screen saying www.apple.com/support/ipod? can anyone me with thsi matter?

I've bought an iPod Classic as well. And I experience the same sound. The reason why this happens is because the iPod Classic has a spinning hard drive like the one in your computer instead of the flash drive found in the other iPods.
Whenever you browse e.g. your music the hard drive starts spinning, and when the song is found it stops the hard drive to save battery. it's the stopping of the hard drive that makes this sound.
Hope this was useful to you

  • My 160 gig classic freezes itunes

My one year old ipod classic has recently sufferd from sort of odd error! Two days ago I connected my ipod to a friends mac to let it charge when i came back my ipod had been wiped of all music and videos! while that bummed me out at first the problems got worse once i got home. Now when i connect my Ipod to my Computer (windows 7) it asks weather or not i want to reformat the device, and my itunes simply freezes when it tries to connect to the Ipod. Is it possible connecting it to the other computer somehow screwed the software? also i cant do a restore since it just freezes my itunes.... any suggestions?

    Hey Glitch_Dancer503,
MY suggestion would be to put the iPod Classic into disk mode. After that the restore option should not be as difficult.
    Putting iPod into Disk Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1363
iPod devices with a Click Wheel
If necessary, verify that your iPod has a Click Wheel.
Before placing the iPod into Disk Mode, verify that it is charged.
Toggle the Hold switch on and off (set it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least six seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears.
    6. Connect the iPod to your computer; the screen on the iPod will should say "Do not disconnect".
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    -Norm G.

  • Alpine CDE-103Bt Head Unit and Problem with 160 Gig Ipod Classic

    Hi,
2 weeks agao I brought a new Alpine CDE-103BT Head unit for my car. I have owned one of the old 160 gig classics for the last year and a half and at the time I brough the unit I was told this should all work sweet. Indeed all of the documentation from Alpine, and the Sales person, said this would not be a problem.
Unfortunately from Day one, most times after I received a phone call, while playing my ipod, the Head Unit would givesme an "Error-03" message and stop playing my music. I would then have to unplug my ipod, reset it, and plug it back in. Extremely frustrating.
The people I brought the Head Unit from are trying to say its an Ipod problem, yet I never had any problems with it and after I contacted the Australian Ipod help line they said it all appears to be working correctly. The firmware version I was on when I first tried the ipod on the head unit was 1.1.2. The Alpine manual said it should be 1.1.1 (then again you would expect them to be able to cope with updates) so as a last ditch attempt I downgraded the firmware on my ipod to 1.1.1, but it did not make a difference.
The only other thing I have noticed is that I switch the repeat and shuffle settings off when I plug in the unit, but after I unplug it after an Error-03 the Repaet function has been swtiched to all - I am not sure if this is what is causing the problem.
I am getting pretty frustrated with everything and I was wondering if anyone else has come accross this issue and even me helpful had they found a way to fix it.
If not has anyone had any postive expereinces with Alpine head units?
    Thanks

Try deleting the iPod Photo Cache from the nominated folder that you have set up to sync photos to the devices.
See iTunes: Understanding the iPod Photo Cache folder for more info.
