New 160gb Classic Help

Hi Guys, my first post and hopefully not my last.
I got a new 160gb classic last week, problem I have is that once the ipod is shut down and left for over an hour or so I have to carry out a reboot on it to start it up.
Visited an Apple Genius who reinstalled the software but I am still having the same problem and need to carry out a reboot all the time.
Has anyone had this issue before ?
Do I need to have my ipod replaced by Apple ?
Thanks in advance
Jon

Your iPod is definitely not working correctly, you could try restoring it yourself and see if that does any good. However if it continues to give you problems after restoring then contact Apple about a replacement under warranty.
Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists choose no and it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

  • Help: Is there a way to move all the music from my old 30GB classic ipod to my new 160GB classic?

I recently filled up my 30GB ipod classic so I got a new 160GB classic. My 30GB is synced to an old Windows PC and my new ipod is synced to a Mac. Can I move all the music on my old ipod (even if some songs aren't in my old library) to my new ipod?

You can't trasfer music between different accounts. If both computers use the same iTunes account, simply sync them to the same computer.
Music from old ipod goes to that computer, then select which tunes you want added to the new ipod and sync it.

  • Has anyone seen the NEW 160GB Classic for sale (besides at Apple)?

Amazon is still selling the 120GB.
Perhaps someone is familiar with the typical time delay between when a product is available from Apple and when other resellers made them available.
I have found some selling the OLD 160GB (for about $500).

I was at Best Buy 9/12/09 and got the new 160gb for the same price as the old 120gb.

  • How do I downgrade new 160GB Classic from 1.1.2 to 1.1.1?

Just bought a iPod Classic 160GB last November (first Apple purchase). Have been using successfully with Toshiba Sat Pro laptop with XP Pro SP1 (SP2 will not work properly on laptop). Have iTunes 7.4.3.1 and had 1.1.1 on iPod until yesterday, when I was informed there is a newer version (1.1.2), which I downloaded. Now I get an error message telling me my laptop cannot connect to iPod because 1.1.2 only works with iTunes 7.6. But I cannot run iTunes 7.6 on my laptop, because it requires SP2, which I do not want to/cannot run. How do I get the iPod back to 1.1.1?

    Hi Tattenbach,
Thanks for the reply. I am able to get the iPod into Disk Mode, but it does not help me at the moment. I am in Chicago and went to the Apple Store today and explained my problem to one fo the Geniuses. He connected my iPod to an Apple MacBook there and "restored" it, albeit in Mac format. Supposedly I would now get a message when connecting to my laptop saying something like "An iPod has been detected" and I would then have the opportunity to install the older software (1.1.1) on it. I have deleted the 1.1.2 iPod software from my files and left the 1.1.1, so that iTunes will load 1.1.1 (the one that still works with my laptop) onto the iPod. But... when I connected it, I still get the error message that I cannot connect because the iPod software is compatible only with iTunes 7.6 and higher (which I cannot use). I checked the software version listed under "About..." and sure enough, it says 1.1.2 MAC.
When I set the Ipod to Disk Mode, the laptop sees the iPod, but says the disk is not formatted. When I answer "Yes" to the question "Do you want to format it?", nothing happens.
I tried to connect it to Floola, but it it says "iPod not connected". I clicked on "Repair iPod". When I get to the window "Did you read the page on Corrupted Files?" and click on "Yes", the "Next" button remains faded out and I have only the option of clicking on "Quit".
I thought using Apple products was supposed to be much easier than Windows? My frustration with this iPod is no less than what I have had with my Windows-based laptops.
Any further ideas in how to get my $400 paper weight working again?

  • I just bought a new 160gb classic because my 80gb classic ran out of room. Can i import all the music on my 80gb to my 160 gb and maintain seperate libraries-----Tom

I just bought a new Classic 160gb because i ran out of room on my Classic 80gb. Can i copy all the music from my 80gb Classic on my 160 gb and still maintain seperate libraries----------Thank You  ---Tom

Yes.  The music on the old iPod will need to be stored in your iTunes library on your computer though for you to sync it over to the new iPod.  See this article for different ways to handle multiple iPods with one computer.

  • My new 6120 classic, help please.

I am new to Nokia, previously i had a WM and a SE phone.
I like the 6120 classic, but there are a few features I am use to on my previous phones that seem to be absent on the 6120.
    1. The text message templates, can they be customised?
    2. Can I enter a re-occurring monthly event in calendar?
    3. Why is there no 'find' application for calendar. Is there a third party option for this.
    Thanks for any info.

I've got a 6110 Navigator so I can't say for sure this will work.
go to the My folders - Templates - Options. Here is the option to add a new template. If you just want to edit one, click on it and the editor will open.
For the calendar open a new event and scroll down to Repeat and click the center key. You have options here for daily, weekly, fortnightly...
Don't know about the calendar search function. sorry

  • Has Apple addressed poor sound quality issues with new 160GB iPod classic?

I just bought a new 160GB iPod classic, replacing a perfectly good 80GB iPod Video (5.5), thinking that the newer one would be superior to my 3 year old model. I discovered that the sound of the new unit was flat and muddy compared to the older model. I found that the 5th gen iPod video was more "spacial", if that's an appropriate word to use; the bass was more present and more clearly defined, as was the rest of the sonic spectrum. I searched several forums to research this issue and while there were numerous references to this issue, all of the posts I found referred to the original iPod classics (80GB and 160GB) and not the later 120GB classics nor the new 160GB classics like the one I bought. Has Apple done anything to address this issue since the first classics were released or are the new ones still suffering from the same sound quality issues as the original classics?

Based on your observations here, they apparently have not changed the sound quality since the original 160GB classic. I noticed a clear narrowing of the sound stage (ambiance) between the 5.5G 80Gb and my 6G 160GB. You're describing the same characteristic. I don't own the newest 160GB version and came here today to see if it might have improved the sound quality back to the 5.5 spaciousness. Note that the 5.5G has a higher signal to noise ratio than the 6G, making it difficult for me to enjoy it through efficient balanced armature in ear monitors like the Shure SE530s or Ulimate Ears Triple.Fi 10s.

  • Can I use my old accessories for a 40GB (4G) iPod with new 160GB iPod Classic?

    I just purchased a 160GB (7G) iPod Classic. I had been using a 40GB (4G) iPod.
The male connectors on  the accessories I used with my 40GB iPod seem to fit into the female connector on my new 160 GB. So, I am wondering if I can use these old accessories with my new 160GB iPod Classic. The old accessories I used with my 40GB (4G) iPod are as follows.
    1) Wall charger made by Apple. It has a firewire connection at one end of the charger cord which connects to  the small white plastic box of the charger that plugs into the wall. The other end of the charger cord seems to fit my iPod 160GB Classic.
    2) Dock made by Apple. It uses a firewire connection cord to my computer, in contrast to the USB connection cord that came with my 160GB iPod Classic.
    3) Car chargers that worked with my old 40GB, 4G  iPod. The car charger connectors seems to fit my new 160GB iPod Classic. One car charger is made by Apple. The other is not made by Apple.
So, could you please tell me if I can use any or all of these old accessories with my new 160GB Classic without damaging it.
    Thanks.
    Richard

  • Why can't my 160GB Classic turn off when it's in the universal dock?

When I have my brand new 160GB Classic in my about 4 years old Universal Dock, I can't switch it off. When it's not in the dock, I can switch it off just by pressing the lower key the ordinary way.
When I had my about 4 year old 60GB iPod in the dock, I could turn it off when in the dock, but this doesn't work with my new iPod. The screen keeps saying that the battery is loading or loaded, even when the back light is switched off.
How can I completely turn it off when it's in the dock?

    Hi Thebestest1v1er,
Based on your description of being able to Safe Boot (holding down the shift key) but not boot normally, it sounds like your startup/restart issue may be related to one of the things that Safe Boot disables. You can find more information about them here:
OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564
It may also be related to a disk or file system issue (as that is also something checked during Safe Boot). You may find these articles helpful as well:

  • Super-slow sync on brand new 80GB classic, randomly disconnects

Got a new 80GB classic today and it is REALLY slow at syncing, granted I have over 3000 songs to sync but my old 20GB U2 iPod did not take over 8 hours to upload all these songs and this new classic has already given the message 'Ok to disconnect' twice, as if the sync is complete, which is isnt. It doesnt get anywhere near halfway the 3000 tunes. I am not using a 2.0 USB but this was never an issue with my much older iPod. I cant even leave the comp on all night to take care of the sync because I know i will wake up to an 'ok to disconnect' message with about half the songs on the Pod. I think the iPod itself is slow, as the clock on it doesnt match my desktop while I watch it sync, its only just caught up the what the time was 5 minutes ago, and before this it was over half an hour behind. The yellow sync logo moves really slow, should it? maybe my comp is just too old to handle so many songs and such a new iPod, haha.

we purchased a new 160GB Classic 3 weeks ago and it was working fine up until this weekend. Now we're encountering the following problems:
    - iTunes can't remember the library location and keeps changing to the default location
    - iTunes and Windows don't recognize that iPod is connected
    - iPod won't synch
    - there are corrupted paths in the library file (weird characters at random places in path)
I've installed the latest Windows updates, uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, run regclean.exe, and fixed the library file paths.
Still, when we attached the iPod, we have problems. When I look at the Task Manager, the services.exe keeps running.
Any help? my husband is ready to throw the iPod out the window.

  • No picture on tv from 160GB classic

having read all the forums re the problems with the TV OUT function on the new 160GB classic i find that i have no problem with that ....but i can get no picture on tv from connecting using the apple AV cable to the AV input on a new panasonic TV. i can get sound but no picture .bought the apple AV connection kit containing universal dock and AV cable (one red one white one yellow),set ipod to TV out, played imported DVD(works fine on ipod screen) but although sound is clear ,there is no sign of any visuals . could it be that the cable is an older type and is not compatible to carry the video input from the dock to the TV ?? any ideas welcome.

thanks. i got new cables and now have vision. unfortunately the captions will not turn off even though the ipod screen settings read 'off' and the picture resolution is very poor . is this normal when viewing a movie on the big screen (a 32' lcd panasonic) ?

  • New 160Gb ipod classic will not be see in in Itunes V11.3.1(2)

I bought a new 160Gb Ipod classic. I bought it because my previous 2, older ipod classics, stopped syncing. One day they worked the next they didnt. I swear this happened after an Itunes update too. Anyway, I took one to Tekserve (local Apple service provider) and they told me one of the pins in the ipod i brought to them was damaged so the connection couldnt be made. I didnt really buy the answer, but since the ipod was older i figured, ok, I'll get a new one. Well I just got a new one. opened up the box, took out a new USB cord, plugged it into my computer and boom, NOTHING. The computer recognizes it in the Finder (MAC OS 10.6.8). Then again the MAC recognized my other 'broken' ipods too, Itunes just doesnt.
So I had hunch before this this problem has to be a software bug. Now its confirmed. There is no way a brand new ipod should not be seen in Itunes. Trust me i tried all the normal 'Ipod doesnt sync support stuff' and it doesnt  solve the problem. This is an advanced problem and one that i need  real answer on. Does an ipod classic work with Itunes  V11.3.1(2) running on a MAC 10.6.8 OS? Ipod classics still cost $250 which is ridiculous since the technology is 5 years old, so if Apple stopped supporting them on the new Itunes without making that know I think there should be some serious press about this!
    Please help.

Well I finally figured out the problem, not thanks to anyone from Apple for that matter. You would asume this problem has happened before and is still happening. The problem was I couldn't copy certain songs anymore from iTunes to my iPod Classic. When trying to copy certain songs I got an error.
If you have this problem it means your song file is corrupted. You can simply check this by trying to copy it from your hard drive to an external hard drive. Here you will also get an error message.
This means you need to replace all the corrupted files by a back up on your hard drive or download it again. I did this and now everything works fine.
Hope this will solve a lot of problems.

  • My new 160gb ipod classic missing compilation uncheck option in settings

Help just bought a 160GB classic,(i previously had a 60GB classic)my old ipod had an option to uncheck/check compilation in settings>compilations (just under the EQ option) my new ipod does not have this option although the manual and help forums seem to say this is where compilation uncheck/check option is. Is there a fix for this or do I take back to the seller?

Fair enough - I had hoped we were just at cross purposes as to where to look for it on a newer model. What firmware build is the device? I'm assuming it's the September 2009 160Gb with Genius etc. I don't have one in my hands just now but I thought I recalled the menus being the same in this respect. Will check on youngest's iPod later...
In the meantime I'm still not clear which "version" of the option you want, other than it obviously isn't the one you've got at the moment. Which did you want, all artists or just some? One cover for each different combination of album and artist in Cover Flow or just the one? If Apple have changed the way it works on your iPod model, which they have done on the iPhone/iPod Touch, then you may to look at making some changes to the way you tag your library, or return this model and buy an older one on eBay.

  • Help Please - New iPod Classic will not sync with existing iTunes library

Please help, I have researched every forum I can find and all the suggested tips have not worked for me.  Here is my problem.....
I have a new laptop and a new iPod classic.  I have checked and both have the most up to date software.  I have logged into iTunes and all the music and films I had purchased previously is showing.
I thought I simply had to log into iTunes, authorise the laptop, plug in my Ipod and then sync the music and films from iTunes onto my iPod.
When I do the there is a message within seconds to say the iPod sync is completed but the iPod remains empty.  I can't figure out where I have gone wrong.
    All suggestions gratefully received

Problem solved.  It seems that iTunes archived my music to iCloud so once I downloaded all the files again they sync'd rght away
