New 17' battery capacity 3000mAh less than my old 17

After chewing through the battery far too quickly on a new 17' 2.3 I checked in system profiler/power at battery capacities of the new and old 17 (2.8 core 2 duo from 2009). The new 17 says 8729 mAh and the old one says 11879. That would explain the reason the new machine runs out of juice, but I dont understand the drop in capacity as Apple advertisers it has the same size battery as the older 17's.
Does this 17 have a problem or have I missed something. Ideas please.
Could others with a new or older 17 (unibody) please post your battery capacities to see if I am alone or whether others see the same thing. Thanks.
I love the speed of this machine though. Far far faster.

The current 17" MBP lists a 95 watt-hour battery.
Assuming the nominal voltage is 10.8 volts like the removable batteries.
95 watt-hours divided by 10.8 volts = 8.796 ampere-hours
8.796 ampere-hours times 1000 = 8796 milliampere-hours
8729 / 8796 * 100 = 99.2% of full charge capacity.
Your battery is fine.
Look up the specs for your old machine and perform the same calculations.

  • BB 8830 - new and battery drains in less than 8 hrs

Just received a new 8830 and battery is draining in less than 8 hrs with no voice usage, only data. It appears as the BB is constantly sending and receiving data? I have done a soft and hard reset and do not have any programs other than the standard that come with the BB.
    Thoughts?

You may be experiencing a known issue, we also experienced. Basically what is occurring is when end users perform an email reconcile with BlackBerry Desktop Manager, it's changing the folder ID's to be 5 digits instead of 10. This in turn is causing the amount of OTAFM traffic that you are currently seeing, exhibited by constant network activity on the device and resulting in rapid battery drain.  Have your support team contact RIM and refer to the SDR, and RIM will provided an agent to fix the problem. Alternately, the user's folder structure can be deleted on the BES state database, but before either solution is attempted, end users must turn off email reconcile from the device & Desktop Manager as this issue we reoccur if they do another sync. As I understand, SDR147879 is targeted to be resolved within BES version 4.1.5.

IPod Nano 7th Gen- battery problem- less than 2 years old

When you connect it to the computer's USB (or to a USB power adapter) so that it has power, does it still operate properly?  If it does, you are saying that as soon as you disconnect it from power (even after it has been connected for a while), it immediately shuts off?
Or is the iPod "dead" when you connect it to power?

  • E50 battery drains in less than a day

My E50 has started draining the battery in less than a day. IN fact, it lasts roughly 10 hours and that is assuming nobody actually calls me.
    I have:
    - bluetooth off
    - screen off almost all the time
    - autlock installed to lock the device down
    - nothing running except the "standby" page
I do use Exchange Activesync, and that does suck a lot of power - but even so 10 hours is ridiculous, not too long ago it lasted easily a few days even with some syncing during the day.
    Any ideas? Battery going bad?

Is your GPRS connection constantly activated? And are you running in UMTS (Or 3G mode) or GSM as a wonky 3G signal that forces the phone to jump between UMTS and GSM can really kill your battery. If you have moved your geographical area lately it might be that you have moved into an area where there is a poor UMTS signal that is causing this.
Try putting it in GSM mode for a day and see what happens.
If nothing try uninstalling your applications and formatting your phone to see if a runaway application is causing it (Back up your data first).
Failing that, get a new battery (Or claim one under the warranty).

  • Less than a year old MBP 13 Battery is now less than 89%

My MBP is less than a year old. I check the battery and surprisingly, it has 534 cycles and only 89% Health left. I use iStat Pro. The battery is quite disappointing at only less than a year of use. Can I get it replaced under Applecare?

If you've cycled your battery 534 times in less than a year, you're flogging it within an inch of its life. Completely discharging and recharging your battery 1-1/2 times a day is as hard on it as anything you could possibly do to it, short of storing it in a closed parked car in the summer sun.
And still, after 53.4% of your rated 1000 cycles are gone, you've only lost 55% of the 1/5 of the battery's original Full charge Capacity that Apple expects you will lose in 1000 cycles. That is to say, despite your extremely hard usage of your battery, it's almost exactly on pace to meet Apple's stated expectation that it will still have 80% of its original Full Charge Capacity after 1000 cycles. Your disappointment is completely unwarranted, and you certainly have no reason to ask for or expect a replacement battery.
If you want it to last as long as possible, stop deep-discharging it every time you use it, and plug in your AC adapter whenever you can.

  • Battery is less than year old. Not holding a charge. Now what?

I Bought a new battery less than a year a go since the original wasn't holding a charge. The new one is doing the same thing. Now what do I do?

Did you buy a battery directly from Apple or a cheap third party knock off? Experience has taught me that you get what you pay for. Buy a better battery and follow the tips here for maximizing it's life.

  • My battery drained for less than 24 hours and now won't work, is it totally dead?

My battery was low (12%) and I put it to sleep and did not plug it in for only 24 hours as I had forgotten my power cord.  It now says "Not Charging" and the green light will not turn red (I have had it plugged in for over 2 hours).  I have removed the battery several times and reset the SMC several times as well.  I am wondering if the battery is completely dead or if there is something that can be done.  it is not under warranty and I cannot get to the genius bar until next week so i was just hoping someone could help, especially since it says "Condition: normal". This is the info for the power in the system profiler: any info would be appreciated.  thank you.

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion today, my battery only lasts less than 1:30 and the fans seem to run constantly. Help?

I have a late 2011 13" MBP with a 2.8 GHz i7 processor and 4GB of RAM. With OSX 10.7, my battery could last over 4:30; however, now I see the battery drop a percentage point about every minute (currently at 81% and it says 1:16 remaining). I have a number of programs open (Chrome, Mail, iTunes, Twitter, Skype), but these are the same programs I almost always had running with Lion and I never had this problem. Something else new is that the fan seems to constantly be running and only turns off if I put the computer to sleep.
Here are screenshots of my activity monitor: http://imgur.com/a/shehM
    Any advice?
My battery has decreased to 70% (1:07 remaining) by the time I've finished writing this...

It looks like Skype is basically running two CPU cores at nearly full throttle (well, 1.57 cores).  That's bound to drain the battery pretty quickly.  If you were not doing a high resolution video chat in Skype when you took that screen shot, then something is very wrong with it.  Check and see if there's a newer version of Skype available that fixes the problem.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909g new ink levels drop to less than half after few pages.

Installed all new HP940 ink cartridges and the levels dropped to half after only printing less 12 ink defective pages. Quality Diagnostics Page shows colors but black ink does not show up at all.  Self Test Diagnostic page shows printhead status is good. Checked the ink tubes and they are still neatly bundled and no signs of leakage.

    Hello TV60,
I see that the Officjet 8500 a909g is not displaying the correct ink levels and will not print black. You have done a great job trying to resolve the issue already, some steps I will suggest you have already done but it wont hurt to go over them again.

These HP documents: Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages & Troubleshooting Print Quality Issues are going to help you figure out if the print heads need to be replaced even though your Printer Status Report shows the health as "Good".

  • CS6 64bit isso slow it blinks in response to every new stroke, yet still utilizes less than 2GB RAM

Illustrator CS6 64bit is so overloaded that each time I draw a new brush stroke it responds only after a second of delay, while the area of the document where I added the brush stroke will sort of change it`s content for this duration and show some older state of the document or other gibberish, until AI has finished `processing` the new brush stroke, and then it would blink back to normal and I would be able to continue working. Despite the delay, for some reason, AI 64bit chooses to utilize no more than 2 GB of RAM.
I do have a huge number of vector shapes in the document. My document is 1000px x 1000px and it weighs around 40MB. My machine  is a core i7 2.8 ghz with 18GB RAM 1066 running windows 7 64bit. C drive is an SSD and for Cache I have another SSD with read/write speed around 500 Mb\second out of which 20GB is reserved for windows pagefile and the other 100GB is free . Same SSD is designated as scratch disk for AI, and the AI files which I`m editing are located on this very same SSD.
When running photoshop 64bit it will use up the available 18GB RAM according to it`s need.
I hoped that AI 64bit would use up my RAM, too, so as to allow it to respond quicker. Why doesn`t it do so?

Ultimately the differences between system will appear with usage and will obviously be more noticeable (or not) with not only the applications but how they are utilised.
For many "average" users the perfomance difference between the GMA950 and the ATi X1900 XT in the Mac Pro is not even noticed. If you are however into video editing or advanced photo editing/management then then you'll find benefits with the MBP. While you are using iLife today that may not always be the case. As time progresses even iLife may make more use of the performance of the GPU.
As for RAM, again, it comes down to usage. Even with more RAM hungry applications 2GB can be just fine as long as you don't expect to be able to run multiples of these at once. For instance, 2GB is fine to run Parallels, 2GB is more than fine to run Photoshop… but don't be thinking that it's fine to be run these concurrently. Unless you're using applications that clearly require a bucket load of RAM then the practicalities of 2GB comes simply down to your workflow. There are some users that like to have every application they have constantly up and running which makes then need a lot more RAM than otherwise.
Be aware that speed and long term value for money is not only dependent on the obvious hardware specs. Never underestimate the value of having a clean, simple and fast software setup along with a good fast drive with a low (sub-50%) usage.
Looking forward though, you definitely will get a longer lifespan out of a MBP. How much longer will depend on many things outside of our control, one major one being you. Think carefully as to what you're wanting to do, how you want to do it and what is important to you. Your choice might become very obvious where your needs rule out one or the other.
Generally speaking, buy as much computing power as you can afford. This advice though does not always result in the best value for money.

  • Cannot seem to open a new project with a height less than 100px

    Hi
Surely there is not a minimum limit on the size of project I can work with in Captivate.  I'm trying to open a new project that is 968 x 30 px but it will not let me and defaults back to 100px height.
Is there a way for me to achieve this or is this a flaw in Captivate?  I'd be suprised if theu have set a limit on minimum height!
    Cheers
    D

    Hi there
Not sure if it's a "flaw", but it's been that way for as long as I can recall. Keep in mind that Captivate is really designed for capturing screens and creating things that are substantially larger than 100 px.
If you disagree with this and feel it should change, please consider submitting a Wish Form to ask for a change. (Link is in my sig)

  • Disk Management reporting capacity significantly less than Explorer or Diskpart.exe

Hi, I'm having some odd issues related to Backups failing due to a lack of space on my server, and think there might be something related to the fact that Disk Management is reporting my main partition size as much smaller than it really is. I'm including
an image as it's much easier to explain. Basically, Disk Management shows the partition (which is GPT) as 250mb, but everything else shows it correctly as 1.6TB.
The partitions are left the way the machine shipped from Dell, but I did format it a couple of weeks ago and installed a fresh copy of Windows Server 2012 R2. Sadly I'm not sure if the partitions were like this under Server 2008-- I can't imagine they shows
up like this as I never had any issues so I don't know. Maybe something in the initial install went wrong and tagged the partition incorrectly?)
I've tried to do "extend filesystem" in diskpart to no avail. I'm a bit concerned about touching anything and possibly losing data, unless I have to. That said, this server is in production but currently only as a domain controller and could be
easily demoted and wiped out and started over (with fresh partitions), if I had to. I'd prefer to just figure out a solution to fix this (and hopefully fix the backups in the process since they seem to be running out of space-- as Windows Server Backup only
    sees the 250mb size!)
    Thanks for any ideas!
    Justin

    Hi Justin,
    1.  Have you tried Rescan Disks in Disk Manager: Click Action, and then click
    Rescan Disks.
    2.  I also recommend you to make this disk to connect to other operating system to check if the issue is caused by OS or Disk.
    3.  Have you set space limit on the disk like Quota management.
    4.  Finally, the last method is formatting the disk(please note backup your data before), then reallocate the partition.
    Best Regards,
    Anna

  • Does anyone know why my iPod Touch 5G battery drains in less than 4 hours?

Hello fellow Apple users. I am having battery issues with my iPod Touch 5G. It's only 6 months old and already the battery is draining quickly. It used to last me around 9-10 hours on a single, full charge (on iOS 6) Playing with games didn't affect the battery very much, so I'm assuming there's a battery bug with iOS 7? If not, may I please hear your suggestions?

You may want to poke around in notifications. There's a ton of stuff defaulted to on that you may not need. As well as background app refresh and background app update. When those are on your iPad regularly reaches out to get more info and that can affect your battery.

  • New error for me after less than a day of trying solution for 1418 error

Now I get the error of -69. That a corrupted file apparently is mucking up the works. I tried what the solution offered, I can't catch the file name because it doesn't show any file names while syncing.
I've cleared the entire library, cleaned up my folders and got rid of anything that isn't iPod format friendly.
I've made an appointment at the Genius bar tomorrow, but this is just aggravating to have a piece of hardware bricked by Apples own software. Has anyone found a solution to the "File not found" or "Error 1417, 1718, 1428" issue so many people seem to be posting on?

Please call Apple at 1-800-275-2273. They were very nice to me on the phone and ask them to look into this. The more reports they receive, the better chance we have that Apple will stand behind the iPod and help us out.

  • New cheaper Iphone with more technology than the old Iphone?

    Hello,
I've owned an Iphone since December, and I'm in love with it! There are a few things I've been waiting to have updated, such as, faster internet service and being able to receive multi-media messages. Now I see that there is a new Iphone being released for only $199 when I paid $499 for my 8G. My question is, does this phone that is so much cheaper compare to the old Iphone? And if it's coming with all of the features as the old Iphone, will the upgrade that is being released give the same exact features as the 3G?
    Thank you!

The lower cost of the new iPhone is only happening because AT&T (and other carriers around the world) are subsidizing it, and in the process increasing monthly charges to recover the subsidy. In effect over the 2 year contract with AT&T for example, you'll pay marginally more for the new iPhone than you did for the old one!
Basically, the two models are the same. The new one has 3G capabilities, but 3G coverage in the US is very spotty at present and not increasing particularly fast, so a large proportion of people won't be able to take advantage of it. The new iPhone also has GPS capabilities which the original did not, and has somewhat better battery life. Otherwise, just about all the other improvements are in firmware, and the same firmware will be available to download and upgrade existing iPhones early in July.
If you don't need GPS and don't live in a major city where 3G coverage exists, you should be happy with your existing iPhone since not only will you be able to get the new firmware next month to add a lot of new features, but you'll also be paying less each month to use it - your data plan at present is $20 including 200 texts, while the new iPhone will be $30 for data with texting costs on top of that as well.
