New 2.8 ghz 24" iMac

This is a positive post just to let people know that all is not bad with the new iMacs. I ran a Powermac 1.25 since 2002. These new iMacs are what I was waiting for and I ordered mine on the day Steve announced them. I got the top of the line 2.8 Core 2 extreme, 24" display and 500gb drive. I have been using it for a week now and it has had zero flaws. It works great! Yes as people have noted the exterior casing does get very hot especially on the upper left corner. However it has not made a difference in the performance of the computer and I am not worried about it. This is one one of the most gorgeous computers I have ever had. As for the keyboard I cant love it more. It has such a nice feel to it I want one for my PC at work. I have not been able to make the cpu's work hard no matter what I do. It is so fast, I am currently doing a full home folder backup, watching the keynote, playing iTunes, copying 40 gig of data to another 500 gb USB drive and typing this post..I'm not even at 50% cpu! These are awsome computers. I do agree that the video drivers could use some more speed...but I am confident that apple is working on this since these are so new.
So just to give a different view to those problem posts I decided to post a positive review. I know poeple get defective machines... but alot of us get perfectly fine computers as well. So its not all bad.. I got a good machine and I just wanted to pass that on to people that may looking to make a purchase.
Good luck to those that have problems...I hope you get them resolved...these are wonderful systems. I also have a vista laptop that already got infected by Virus and cost me 70 bucks in tech support to get fixed and now I get to reinstall Vista to factory condition. This never happened to me on a Mac. I could have bought iWork for what that support call cost me..... keep that in mind.....
Tom

I ordered the standard config on the Apple store....it came with 2 gb of ram. I wa suprised I didnt have to upgrade anything. I took that as a sign..LOL. I got mine the 14th. Not bad for a new computer. After reading all the posts here I was a bit concerned getting a new model, but so far no problems. I also use an Airport extreme with gagabit ethernet so everything feels really fast.
I hope your computer is a flawless as mine. The only recommendation I have is to make a good backup of your old system before you get your new one. It will allow you to choose what to move over and what to trash from your old system.
Also, get some sunscreen for sitting in front of that 24" monitor
I hope you enjoy your iMac... I cant get away from mine. I own a consulting company and I am seriously considering moving to add Mac consulting to the business.

  • New 3.1 GHz 2011 iMac 27-inch running 10.6.6 won't update to 10.6.7

    Just purchased the newly released top of the line 27-inch 3.1 GHz iMac today and it came with Mac OS X 10.6.6. I ran software update, says no updates. I downloaded the 10.6.7 update manually from Apple's web site and it says the computer doesn't meet the requirements for the upgrade...

    I'm going to make a guess here: usually Macs cannot boot from a system that is older than what they came with. Now, even though 10.6.7 sounds "newer" than 10.6.6, these Macs just came out and 10.6.7 has been out for a month or more, it may be because of that. I am sure you'll probably be offered your own "special" 10.6.7 update through Software Update. If you simply have to know, call Apple and ask - you have free phone support for 90 days (without Applecare) or 3 years (with Applecare).
    If you do call Apple, post back so we'll all learn something......

  • Please, i bought a new track pad for my imac. it is working well when my imac is on. But, anytime i off my imac and wish to on it again, My track pad will be connected but it doesn't click i will need a mouse to log in my password first . Any help?

    Please, i bought a new track pad for my imac. it is working well when my imac is on. But, anytime i off my imac and wish to on it again, My track pad will be connected but it doesn't click i will need a mouse to log in my password first . Any help?
    To be specific. I have the imac late 2013 model, and i just bought the trackpad this October 2014. I have been using magic mouse without any problem. I just want to have a new experience with the trackpad.  Any time i on my imac, i will have a normal screen with my picture and a guest column at the center. I need to click either my picture or the guest in order to have the space where i can key in my password with the keyboard. But unfortunately, my trackpad will show that it is connected and the cursor will be moving in front of the screen if i touch the trackpad, but if i try to click, i will get no response. I have to put back batteries inside my magic mouse and then click on my picture if i want to log in with my id or i click on the guest image if i want to log in as a guest. it is only after this that my trackpad will start responding.
    i want to use only trackpad for now so as to be more efficient with it. I don't want to be putting back batteries inside the magic mouse only to on my imac. I need a solution please.
    Thanks.

    It sounds like you have assigned the primary click on the trackpad to something else, perhaps a gesture.
    Use your mouse, login and then open the Trackpad preference pane and see how you have the interface configured.
    Oh and you can have both the Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad powered up and working at the same time. No need to keep moving batteries around.

  • After installing the new Yosemite OS on my iMac I can no longer send email. I can receive email, but not send. I use gmail and can send email on the gmail (google) site, but not on "mail" on my iMac. Any others with this problem? What should we do?

    After installing the new Yosemite OS on my iMac I can no longer send email. I can receive email, but not send. I use gmail and can send email on the gmail (google) site, but not on "mail" on my iMac. Any others with this problem? What should we do?

    My gmail, which is correctly configured for Mail with gmail SMTP and Google IMAP, works for awhile on Mail, which I leave open while working on other applications. But several times a day I get msg from Google: "We recently blocked a sign-in attempt to your Google Account" . . . and requiring me to verify my account details, re-enter passwords, confirm security settings (or change them from "disable" to "enable less secure methods" and so on). In Mail I also have tried "taking all accounts online", and re-entering my gmail password inside Mail account settings. These steps successfully re-set comms between gmail and Mail ... for awhile, then it happens again. Enough occurrences over a work day that I just quit Mail and revert to accessing gmail directly. Apple Care advisor and an Apple knowledge base article say that Apple can't deal with this, as gmail is third-party app, and they refer me to gmail, and so far I've found nothing helpful there.
    From today I also have several instances of a window saying "Mail has unexpectedly closed" and asking me to Re-open it.
    I also use Yahoo mail, which stops working with Mac Mail at the same time as gmail, but I do not receive notices to re-verify from Yahoo.
    I recently upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite. The Mail problem happened occasionally with Mavericks but is far more frequent with Yosemite.

  • I have just installed a new hard drive in my imac intel 20" (2006) and now the hard drive does not show up in the 'select destinations' folder of the install program.

    I have just installed a new hard drive in my imac intel 20" (2006) and upgraded the memory and now the hard drive does not show up in the 'select destinations' folder of the install program. I can see the hard drive in the disk utilities window however it wont let me do anything.
    It is a seagate 1TB SATA II drive however it is displaying it as a 7.3 TB.
    If anyone has any suggestions I would be happy to hear them.
    I have tried to erase and partition and get the same error message each time, 'Input/Output error'.
    I have tried starting the thing with the install disk which is Mac OS X (Tiger?) which came with the computer. No good.
    Anyone?

    Thats correct. I can see it in the list however when I attempt to erase it or partition it it's like it's not being found or recognised and it throws up the input/output error message. I am pretty sure that the sensor it attached correctly and it is a SATA drive. I can see all the infor regarding the drive when disk utility is open and it all looks good but I cant access it or do anything with it. It's taunting me!
    The install disk is in the drive and the install program runs right up to the point where you have to select the location for the install and there is just nothing in the box where you have to select the hard drive icon.
    I have my suspiscions about the drive but any help would be appreciated.

  • Will new shuffle work on older iMac w/USB 1.0?

    Thinking about getting my 9 year old a new suffle for xmas. His mac is an older G4 FP (lamp style) and only has USB 1.0. Will the new shuffle work on his iMac?
    Thanks,
    Alfredo

    The 2 responses to this question conflicted. On the
    page referenced in the second answer, it says only
    USB 2.0. The first answer said that yes, it will work
    with USB 1.0.
    Which answer is correct???
    The first one... the second answer doesn't have any experience behind it, only marketing pap.
    From a first hand point of anecdotal reference, MY iPods, including first and second generation Shuffles work fine with USb 1.1 (2001 iBook dual-USB, iMac 333mHZ Rev D, and eMac 1GHz).

  • Hooking a new Mac mini onto my iMac

    Hi there kind people!
    i'm pretty sure there are several discussions out there considering the possibility to hook a new Mac mini on to iMacs. However mine is pretty specific, so I'd though to give it a go and just spit out!
    I'm considering buying a new Mac mini. However I don't like the idea of buying a new monitor, because I've got an 24" iMac standing on my desk. Is it possible to use the iMac as a monitor for the Mac mini and what would it require?
    I've got a 24-inch iMac, from the beginning of 2009. It is, of course, running on OS X Lion.
    I hope you people can help me out!
    Thanks a bunch and have a splendid day!
    Greetings,
    HarmenSimon

    Try Air Display it will allow you to do what you want.

  • Which new inkjet printer for my iMac early 2008?

    I need a new inkjet printer for my iMac early 2008 (until now I use an old Epson Stylus Photo 1200 which now is going to its end of life).
    Which printer would you choose, especially for photo prints?
    Thanks for your answers! :-)

    I should have mentioned that I may have the same computer you have  - a late (December) 2007 iMac.  I continue to run 10.4.11 Tiger because of some antiquated software I use that is not compatible with later operating systems.  An additional thing I like about the Canon is its five individual ink tanks.  When one color runs out, I just change out that one cartridge and keep going.

    Can I transfer my CC 6 apps to a new Volume on the same iMac? I would much rather disable and download to new Volume. I couldn't use Adobe CC6 or CS 6 at all because my iMac was so messed up?

    Romeobot if you faced difficulties with your previous computer then I would recommend you reinstall the software on the new computer.  In fact you may want to install the Adobe applications prior to migrating or transferring any files to your new computer.  For information on how to install your Adobe Creative applications please see Install and update apps - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/install-apps.html.

  • Can not import new ebooks(epub) from my iMac to iPad

    I have the same problem about the ibook covers and read about the solution. But I have a more serious problem:  when I try to import new ebooks (epub) from my iMac to my iPad I see a message saying : 1 part cannot be synchronised.See iTunes for more information. And the book is not in my
    The importing I do by dragging the book from my the file in my iMac to the iPad section in iTunes. That worked in IOS 4.3.   but not in IOS 5
    I also tried by dragging the book from my iMac file to the library in Itunes (that works) and from there to the iPad section in iTunes and that does not work.
    Before I try to get the covers back as described in an other post, I have to be sure I can import ebooks in my iPad.
    Who can help?
    peterwillem

    I have to adjust my earlier post a little. Eventually the ebook appears in my iPad ibook library but it took a while. The part of not being sync is probably the fact that the cover is not being sync. Anyhow I only see the dull brown standard cover in my iPad.
    It is a shame that the cover issue occurs, if I have to sync all my books again will take a long time.

  • I need to make a list of 700  dvds that can be updated alphabetically as I attain new ones. I'm new at computers, bought an iMac (with Lion). What application or software will do this for me the easiest?

    I need to make list of 700+ dvds that can be updated alphabetically as I attain more. I'm new at computers, lbought an iMac (with Lion). What application or software will do this for me the easiest?

    Yes, the ColorPicker would be great, except as far as I can tell there's no way to assign names to the colors in my custom data provider. The user needs to know the name of the color (eg. P01 - Wisteria), but the ColorPicker only shows the hex values. Unless there's a way to change that?
    Repasting the two code chunks from above, which didn't display properly:
    Works, but doesn't show swatches:
    TileList.addEventListener(Event.CHANGE, changeColor);
    var colorBox:ColorTransform = new ColorTransform();
    function changeColor(e:Event):void{
       colorBox.color = tileList.selectedItem.data;
       box_mc.transform.colorTransform = colorBox; }
    Shows swatches, but doesn't work:
    var aBoxes:Array = new Array(); var i:uint = 0;
    var printColorHex:Array = new Array(0xfac9c2, 0xFF0000, 0x0000CC, 0x00CC00, 0xFFFF00);
    var printColorNames:Array = new Array("R-01 Pale Coral", "Cranberry", "Sky", "Forest", "July");
    var dpPrintColors:DataProvider = new DataProvider();
    for(i=0; i < printColorHex.length; i++) {
         aBoxes[i] = new MovieClip();
         drawBox(aBoxes[i], printColorHex[i]);    // draw box w next color in array
         dpPrintColors.addItem( {label:printColorNames[i], source:aBoxes[i]} );
    aTl.dataProvider = dpPrintColors;
    function drawBox(box:MovieClip,color:uint):void {
                 box.graphics.beginFill(color, 1.0);
                 box.graphics.drawRect(0, 0, 140, 60);
                 box.graphics.endFill();

    Change your settings in Sharing preferences, for one, and remove the server out of the Finder's sidebar. Obviously, this is the result of transfering all your other computer's preferences to your new computer.
