New 2014 MacBook Pro Charger Not Working

I just recently bought a brand new MacBook Pro from my local Apple store a little less than a month ago. Ever since I first bought it, the charger only sometimes works. I'll plug it into my laptop and the light won't come on and it won't charge. I then have to unplug and plug it back in (turning it over multiple times as well) before it will light up and start charging my laptop. When I first opened the box I took the wall attachment off the charger and put on the long cord, so I thought it might have something to do with that cord but I switched to the wall attachment and still had the same problem. The charger also never lights up or starts charging while my laptop is closed, I have to plug it in first then shut it. Am I just somehow plugging my charger into my laptop wrong or is this an actual problem? Thanks for any info!

Take the charger with the computer to the Apple store and get a replacement power adapter.

  • MacBook Pro Charger not working, end of cord before the magnet part got detached from it.

for past an hour, my MacBook Pro charger stopped working so took the charger off and tried to fix it a bit by fixing the corn and straightening it or something.. Suddenly, the end of the cord, just before the magnet part, got detached from the magnet part with the pins and all.
i Tried to attach it back, and even if it did enter, I don't think it would continue to charge..
Is there anyway to fix this? Or do I have to get a new charger (which has to be my last resort, because I don't want to have to repair it by removing parts etc etc, or really pay money)

No and yes.  A new charger is in your future.

  • Macbook pro charger not working.  tried multiple chargers

So about a year and a half ago the battery on my 2009 macbook pro started to bulge.  I did some research on this swollen battery and found that if you kept using it, the battery could explode.  So I took out the battery and have just been using it plugged in.  if my computer accidentally gets jostled and the charger wire comes out the computer would instantly die but that wasn’t really too much of an issue. I happily used my computer like this, with no battery, for a long while and I’ve never felt the need to buy a new battery to use it unplugged.
Lately something has been going on with the point where my charger connects to the computer.  Its one of the magnetized chargers if that makes a difference.  A lot of the time the charger cable won’t connect.  It will magnetize to the computer but no green light comes on and there is no power connection.  Some times when I jiggle the wire around a little bit, the green light will show up and I’ll be able to turn the computer on.  Sometimes the computer will stay on for a while, other times it will barely get to show the desktop before the green light on the charger goes out and the computer shuts down.  I’ve tried using the same 85W charger from a friends as well as bought a new charger and the same thing happens, which leads me to think that the problem might be with my computer and not the charger.  My computer isn’t under warrantee/apple care anymore so I don’t think they can or will do anything.  I’ve been thinking about taking it to an aftermarket computer repair shop and seeing if they can trade out the part of the computer that connects to the charger.  Does anyone else have any advice?  I realize that this is kind of an oddly specific situation because I don’t have a working battery for my laptop.

  • Numbers on new retina macbook pro does not work correctly??

Hi. When I run Numbers on my new Macbook Pro Retina, the interface and all the text looked really blocky and low resolution. I read that there was an easy fix to this by un-ticked the box that says "open in low resolution" in get info. I did this and it looks much much better the only problem is the cell selector square (cursor) is not lined up with the cells on the screen. My guess is that it is because the cursor or cell selector is at a different resolution to the screen. Can anyone please help with this issue or know if there is an update for this coming soon?
    Thanks!

No, your right, it doesnt exactly fill you with confidence having parted with the large sum of cash for this machine. Having done a bit of sniffing around about this issue, I have discovered that apparently apple are launching iworks x at the end of July. Hopefully the new version will fix it. Another annoying thing is that office for mac is really bad visually aswell and you cant stop it from running in low resolution mode! Needs sorting as I use spreadsheets alot.

  • Macbook Pro Charger Not Working in USA

    Hi guys,
I have a 2009 Macbook Pro 2.6Ghz (15") with a 85W MegaSafe Power Adaptor (UK). I'm using a plug convertor and it doesn't charge within the USA.
Am I assuming that my particular version doesn't deal with 100v and I need to buy a USA version?

  • ICloud sync with MacBook Pro does not work

I've installed iOS 5, updated Lion to 10.7.2, marked Calendar and Contacts sync in System settings for iCloud on my Mac. However iCal and Address Book sync between iCloud and Mac (MacBook Pro) does not work though there is no problem in syncing between iCloud and iPhone. Whether I create new event or contact, change existing one or delete existing one in iCloud this change is not reflected on my Mac and vise versa. I could not find a solution in this site or in forums.

Yep, worked for me, too and now contacts and calendar seem to be syncing perfectly.  We'll see if it lasts.
    Thanks for your answer.

  • IMessage (Macbook pro) suddenly not working!?

My imessage from my macbook pro is not working! When I send a message, it automatically displays a red exclamation point and the name of the person I am sending it to turns red. When I click on that it tells me that their number is not registered with imessage! I've sent imessages before (today even) and I don't know what happened. I think I may have messed with some preferences because I was trying to change security preferences, but maybe I accidentally clicked something I shouldn't have? I know it is me because I get the same error for every person I try to message. It works from my phone, though.

This could be a complicated problem to solve, as there are many possible causes for it. Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
Before proceeding, test on another network, if possible. That could be a public Wi-Fi hotspot, if your computer is portable, or a cellular network if you have a mobile device that can share its Internet connection. If you find that iMessage works on the other network, the problem is in your network or at your ISP, not in your computer.
    Step 1
Check the status of the service. If the service is down, wait tor it to come back up. There may be a localized outage, even if the status indicator is green.
    Step 2
Sign out of iMessage on all your Apple devices. Log out and log back in. Try again to sign in.
    Step 3
Restart your broadband device and your router, if different. You may have to skip this step if you don't control those devices.
    Step 4
    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ About This Mac
Below the "OS X" legend in the window that opens, the OS version appears. Click the version line twice to display the serial number. If the number is missing or invalid according to this web form, take the machine to an Apple Store or other authorized service center to have the problem corrected.
    Step 5
Take the steps suggested in this support article. If you don't understand some of the steps or can't carry them out, ask for guidance.
    Step 6
    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Network
If the preference pane is locked, click the lock icon in the lower left corner and enter your password to unlock it. Then click the Advanced button and select the Proxies tab. If the box marked SOCKS Proxy is checked, uncheck it. You don’t need to change any other settings in the window. Click OK and then Apply. Test.
The result may be that you can't connect to the Internet at all. Revert the change if that happens, or if iMessage still doesn't work. Remember that you must Apply any changes you make in the preference pane before they take effect.
    Step 7
    Select from the menu bar
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Storage
    and click
Block all sites from storing information on this computer
    Close the preference pane.
    Step 8
Make sure you know the ID and password you use with iMessage. Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Use the search box in the toolbar of the Keychain Access window to find and delete all items with "iMessage" in the name. Log out and log back in.
    Step 9
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
If iMessage worked in the guest account, stop here and post your results.
    Step 10
Boot in safe mode and log in. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and test again.
If iMessage worked in safe mode, but didn't work when you booted out of safe mode, stop here and post your results.
    Step 11
    Reset the NVRAM.
    Step 12
    Reinstall OS X.
    Step 13
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or contact Apple Support.

  • The sound on my macbook pro is not working

The sound on my macbook pro is not working. When I increase the sound, the icon appears as if everything is working, but no sound comes from the speakers. Earphones don't work either. I have tried a PRAM reset but at times, this doesn't even work. It's really frustrating having to restart my computer every time I want the sound to work, and even when I do that, theres a 50 50 chance of it working again. It generally happens after my laptop goes to sleep and I wake it up. Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it or even know what caused it?
There are a lot of discussions around the earphone jack but I have checked that. I've tried a PRAM reset which hasn't worked, and my sound output is set to Internal speakers.
    HELP!!

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers / Headphones
Make sure Mute is not enabled.
    2. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.

    4. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup

Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.

Yuu can try to reactivate your iSight camera by opening up iMessage.. navigate to Preferences/Audio Video, and then click on Camera. IT shoudl be grayed-out if you only have one camera hooked up to your machine. If you have an external camera, then disconnect it from your machine.
