New 30D Lightroom & ACR Preset Available.
I have a set of presets for Lightroom 1.1 and ACR 4.1 that will IMHO improve on the default color rendering from Adobe.

I look forward to your comments.

Phil,<br /><br />If you look further you'll find that <a href="http://www.xs4all.nl/~tindeman/raw/acr-calibrator-l.html" target="blank">Simon Tindeman's ACR calibrator script</a> takes away a lot of the tedium.<br /><br />I recently calibrated a Nikon D200 and a Canon 30D back-to-back under the same lighting conditions (studio flash) using this script and got:<br /><br /><TABLE BORDER=1><br /><B><br /><TR><br />  <TD ALIGN="CENTER">Item</TD><br />  <TD ALIGN="CENTER">Nikon D200</TD><br />  <TD ALIGN="CENTER">Canon 30D</TD><br /></TR><br /></B><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Colour Temp</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">6150</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">6300</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Tint</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">-22</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">-29</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Exposure</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">0.55</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">1.4</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Red Hue</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">-13</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">-11</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Red Saturation</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">10</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">28</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Green Hue</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">-7</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">-14</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Green Saturation</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">9</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">-10</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Blue Hue</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">3</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">-4</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Blue Saturation</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">5</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">-2</TD></TR><br /></TABLE> <br /><br />When I applied them to some purple chocolate wrappers photographed in the studio they compared very well to each other and the real wrappers. YMMV, of course.<br /><br />However, don't be under the illusion that this 30D calibration is right for all 30Ds. In fact, it may not even be right for teh same 30D under different conditions.<br /><br />To illustrate this, today I photographed the same colour chequer twice and ran the script on both files. Under the studio fluorescents, with a very different illumination level, etc, etc - but the same camera within about three minutes, the same lights, the same colour chequer, and came up with:<br /><br /><TABLE BORDER=1><br /><B><br /><TR><br />  <TD ALIGN="CENTER">Item</TD><br />  <TD ALIGN="CENTER">Photo 1</TD><br />  <TD ALIGN="CENTER">Photo 2</TD><br /></TR><br /></B><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Colour Temp</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">5500</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">5150</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Tint</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">16</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">21</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Exposure</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">0.6</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">0.7</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Red Hue</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">1</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">2</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Red Saturation</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">22</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">22</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Green Hue</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">24</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">28</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Green Saturation</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">-2</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">10</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Blue Hue</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">-6</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">-5</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Blue Saturation</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">8</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">-9</TD></TR><br /></TABLE><br /><br />So, this would be telling you that<br /><br />- most things want more red saturation<br><br />- my so-called 6500 K illumination is good in red but off in green<BR><br />- things are never the same twice<br /><br />So while it's interesting to calibrate, if you look too closely you'll  end up wishing you'd never asked. Again, YMMV.<br /><br />Damian<br /><br />PS Not really sure why U2U formatting leaves so much space above my tables. I thought I was being soooo clever, too.

  • 5D Velvia LR & ACR Preset Available

I have developed a preset for ACR & Lightroom to give a Velvia look to your 5D images. Well my impression of Velvia!
    You can download from http://www.huelight.com
I look forward to your comments.

Harry I tried the two presets you did against my own and the annoying thing is that any one preset gets close but not universal across all images. That makes it very hard. Running your presets over my images I found the v1b one the closest but the blue especially in skies was too aqua for me. I got a much better result taking the blue hue from your -16 to -9. The Velvia was very similar to mine giving a slightly purple blue.
I prefer to have the black slider on 2 rather than 5. Five looks OK but blows too many of my images, maybe a camera thing.
When I Import my images I convert to DNG and apply a preset close to your v1b but with the following:-
    Blue hue -9
    Black 2
    Brightness 41
Contrast 18 (I tend to adjust contrast later mainly using Tone curve)
Clarity 33 (This is often too high - am still working this one out)
    Vibrance 17
Thanks for your efforts - good fun isn't it - seems to change every day.

  • Convert ACR presets to Lightroom?

Is there an easy way to convert ACR presets to Lightroom presets?  I don't use ACR, so
that would be new for me.  Any advice or direction would be appreciated.  Thanks!

There is no easy way to convert ACR presets to Lightroom. However, there is a method by which you apply the preset to an image in ACR so that they written to XMP then import that image into Lightroom. In Lightroom you select the imported image then create a new preset, making sure that you have all of the settings checked in the preset dialog. Frankly, it isn't worth the hassle and more often than not users screw up somewhere along the way.

  • Converting ACR preset to Lightroom preset

Is there a quick and easy way to convert an ACR preset to a preset or develop template for Lightroom?

Make your adjustments in ACR, save but don't open. Then open the file in Lightroom and the settings will be preserved (including Point Curve adjustments). Then save as a Preset in Lightroom.

  • Help With ACR Presets

Hi! I am trying to use some new ACR presets I purchased. These are the first presets I've ever used. I am working on a new Macbook Pro, and have loaded the .xmp files to library/application support/adobe/camera raw/settings. They are now showing up in ACR, but when I try to use them, I get this message "Unable to load the raw conversion settings.  The raw conversion settings file is invalid." Any help??

I bought them from LilyBlue. I thought it would save a ton of time from having to open in Photoshop. I have CS5. Here's the specifications from the purchase.
WHAT VERSION OF PHOTOSHOP DO I NEED FOR LILYBLUE ACTIONS? FOR LILYBLUE RAW PRESETS?
most lilyblue actions have been developed for cs and above. lilyblue raw presets have been developed for acr (adobe camera raw) and adobe lightroom. both versions are included in your purchase. they work on both pc and mac.

  • New to Lightroom, problem importing raw CR2 files.

I am new to Lightroom and am having trouble importing my CR2 raw photo files. In the "import" section I select my SD card that contains the raw image files. All .jpeg files on the card show up as thumbnails but the CR2 files show "preview not available for this file." I select one of the CR2 thumbnails anyway, select a destination folder on my external hard drive and click "import." A window pops up that says, "this file is not recognized by the raw support format in Lightroom." I'm using Lightroom 4.4 and am working with a Windows Vista operating system (on an old, junky laptop). My camera is a Canon 70D and am shooting in RAW+JPEG. I also downloaded the Adobe .DNG converter 6.3 to try to convert the files before importing them into Lightroom and it is also not recognizing and importing my CR2 files. Not sure what to do at this point. Any suggestions?

I would recommend downloading DNG Converter 8.2 which is compatible with Vista.
The latest version 8.6 requires W7 or W8

  • How to determine where Lightroom Settings (Presets) are stored

I have been running LR with a catalog and images that are on an external disc. I have several presets for use in import, develop, export, etc. Everything has been working fine until I recently was playing with the Print module. After doing that, the next (I think) time I opened my catalog, I discovered that all my presets had disappeared. When I examined the folder on the external disc that contains the catalog, presets, etc., I discovered a new folder, "Lightroom Settings". It contained empty folders for Import Presets, Keyword Sets, Filename Presets, etc. -- everything except the folder for Print Presets. This, obviously, is the cause of my missing presets, but why did it happen?
I'd like to know the "algorithm" for LR's storage of presets -- system level, user level, catalog level, whatever. It would seem to me that if it is adding catalog level presets, then it would either copy the existing set of user presets to the catalog or (probably better), not create empty catalog-level preset folders and use the user-level presets where there are none at catalog level. Is there someplace that this process is explained?

Look at these instructions for how to move your LR to a new computer and copy things to a backup device until your computer is reformatted and you reinstall LR:

I receive a massage that a new version of ITunes was available (11.1.4). I proceeded to update, the download went ok but when installing the Message “Service ’Apple Mobile Device’ failed to start, verify that you have sufficient Privileges to start system Services”
On pressing retry I got the same message.
On pressing Ignore, I got the message “ITunes was not installed correctly, please reinstall ITunes – Error 7 – (windows error 126)
I reinstalled with the same error messages and the same results.
I uninstalled existing and reinstalled from scratch and the same error messages again.
I try to repair and at the end it said it had installed correctly – but when it tried to start I got the message “This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem” I now get the same message when I first start the computer but when I press ok I receive ““ITunes was not installed correctly; please reinstall ITunes – Error 7 – (windows error 126)” again.
It appears the update has not only corrupted the operating system (Xp Pro SP3) of my computer but I have no backups to my IPhone, my wife’s IPhone or the three others phones that use my computer.
I hope you can advise me how to recover my backups

So where is LR trying to copy the files?  Check your destination in the Import panel at the right.

I have installed Adobe Lightroom CC.  In the process of launching, a popup appears, that says:  "AN INTERNAL ERROR HAS OCCURRED.  Cannot create the required folder:  /Users/(my user name)/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Develop Presets."  So even though Lightroom CC is installed, it will not launch.  What do I need to do to allow it to launch?

The problem was solved today.  Here's the full story.  I'm a Mac user.  At first I installed Lightroom CC on my iMac (desktop).  I had this problem so I called Adobe, and was referred to a "special unit" .  After about an hour the tech solved it for me ... we did a screen sharing and she took control of my computer for a loooong time.  Because of language difficulties, at first I wondered if she knew what she was doing but she eventually solved it.  Although she couldn't explain exactly what she was doing, she summarized it by saying "it was a permissions problem."  I asked if I would have the same issue later when I installed it on my laptop (Macbook Air).  She said probably not.
But I did.  The same internal error popup arose on launch and launch did not complete on my laptop.  I tried chat but no joy so I eventually called Apple Care.  I had noticed that on my laptop (and the iMac for that matter), that there was no Library folder after my user name.  The Apple tech explained that the Library folder is actually there but it is hidden because it's very easy for users to do some very nasty things to their computer by going astray while in the Library folder.  The folder is actually there, but they hide it.  I did remember seeing that the tech helping me with my iMac had typed the work "Library" while she was controlling my computer.  Basically she had activated the hidden Library folder so she could open the path that Lightroom was trying to follow to create that "Develop Presets" folder.  For some reason, the inability to create that folder in the launch process was preventing launch from being completed.  The Apple tech said she didn't actually have to do that and activated the Library folder by use of the Go selection on the menu bar.  Anyway, once that complete path was replicated and opened, the next step was to go to the Lightroom Permissions field and add my user name to the user categories already there and enable "read and write" permissions to my user name.  Once done, I shut down my laptop, and then rebooted.  I launched Lightroom and then boom, voila, heavens to betsy, etc. it launched and suddenly a dismal weekend turned into a great one.
I am not a geek, so I hope this makes some sense.  I also hope Lightroom launches again tomorrow and beyond!

  • I have move all Pic to new drive, lightroom can't find PSD pictures?

I have moved all pictures and LRCAT to new drive, Lightroom can't find any PSD pictures?  Is this a problem with Lightroom?

    1.        I exported all pictures using export as a catalog  to a new external hard drive.  I’m using lightroom 5.  The file was large.  I have about 3000 missing pictures after to import to new drive.  sing find, I try to find the pictures.  I discovered that lightroom could not find any pictures with .PSD extension.  I would go to the prior drive and do a search using window explorer, I would find the picture with the PSD extension and go back to “find” again,  I would get to the correct folder and Lightroom would say there were no pictures in the folder.   I’m using the “!” on the corner of the missing picture to start the “ find”  and I work backwards until I find the correct folder that I identified using windows exployer.  Normally this process works great. Suggestions?

  • "Lightroom Effect Presets" Don't Always Work (especially vignette 1 and sharpen-faces). Suggestions?

I am using version 5.4 and have had a consistent problem with this and earlier versions on two different machines, both powerful. The Lightroom Effect Presets sometimes do not respond.
Anyone have the same problem and a solution? Thank you.

I have no clue, but it might make a difference depending on the form being produced in Acrobat versus Designer. Acrobat will take you both places and one of them may have an issue with backward compatibility. I have not heard of that, but it is a possibility.
