New 30g iPod not fully accessible.

Hi all,
I looked around but couldn't find any replies specific enough for my sitch.
I just got a brand new 30g video iPod last week. I tried to load it up this weekend using my 2002, 1ghz, 17" flat panel iMac (usb 1.0/firewire).
I'm able to load playlists/music on my iPod (10.75 gigs so far) but I can't load videos. When I try, I get a message saying , more or less, that "the video can't be loaded on this iPod". Also, in iTunes, I only get tabs in the iPod section for:
Summary
Music
Podcasts
Contacts
And, under summary it reads: n/a for Software Version and n/a for Serial Number. And it says - Format: Windows. Since it was brand new out of the box, I figured it would have configured itself to Mac automatically?????? And "Software Update" and "Restore" are grayed out and not useable.
I thought all this might have something to do with using a usb 1.0 port on my iMac but I used a PC laptop with usb 2.0 and iTunes to check the iPod with and got these results:
I got more tab choices for the iPod such as: Movies, Photos, etc. and it showed the Software Version and Serial Number of the iPod but when I tried loading a video, I still got the same message saying that the video couldn't be loaded on this iPod.....huh????
Anybody know what's going on. I want to use the iPod to it's full capability and I want to use it mainly with my iMac because that is where I have all of my music and movies/videos (total of about 19 gigs worth of music and video). I'd rather not have to transfer all that to the PC.
Do I need to use Disk Utility to erase the iPod? I just don't want to mess it up.
Thankxx

Did you remove and reinstall Quicktime?
yes, did that. well, i spent 2 hours with Apple tech yesterday morning, and went through a bunch of hoops (reset NVram, PMU, Permissions, re-installed iTunes, Quicktime, removed suspicious QT plug-ins, etc. etc.) and finally got the solution, but the solution to my problem was to "archive and re-install" the OS. that sucked, but it worked, my 2 iPods are now useable and so far so good (thanks Tanya from Appletech).
here's what i got from apple:
===============
This occurs when the iPodDriver.kext file doesn't load correctly, and it can happen with any iPod model that has a color display.
To resolve this issue, follow the steps in this article.

Thank you,

I suppose i could of just re-installed that particular extension, but i was tired of dealing with it (spent 3 days on this). so hopefully this can help others with the same issue.

Hi, just to be clearer guy's:
    1. I'm not trying to upload movies from DVD's just digitized, downloaded videos.
    2. I am only using iTunes to manipulate the iPod, thought that was clear.. :/
    3. I tried the different video formats just to see if any at all would load.
I'll try to restore on the PC laptop. I'm still confused as to why the box says "PC/Mac" but upon connecting it to my iMac right out of the box, it was Windows formatted???
Oh well, let me give the PC restore a try. I'll let you all know.

  • New 30g iPod Not Recognized By iTunes/Mac Using USB 2.0

Hey there folks . . . I just came home today with a shiny new 30GB iPod, but am having a little trouble in getting it to behave properly. The iPod doesn't show up in iTunes 7 or the Finder when I connect it to a USB 2.0 port. It recognizes the thing on a USB 1.1 port, but this is a very unpleasant way to fill a 30GB hard drive, so, hopefully there's some silly thing I'm overlooking . . .
The USB 2.0 controller is functioning fine and dandy it seems, my flash card reader, mouse, and keyboard all function without a hitch when attached to either of my 2 USB 2.0 ports. When the iPod is plugged in, it charges the battery, and it shows up in the System Profiler under the USB High-Speed Bus just as would be expected . . . but Finder doesn't mount it, and iTunes doesn't recognize its existence.
I'm running MacOS X 10.3.9 on an older G4 PowerMac, and I did upgrade to iTunes 7.
    Any ideas? :-/

Try updating to the latest version of QuickTime http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime713.html Then reattach i-pod and let it update the videos & or podcasts..
    This fix worked for me...

  • Why is my new apple password not fully working?

Why is my new apple password not recognized when updating apps or trying to use Facetime on I-Pad 2? My new Apple password allows me to access my itunes account and download new apps, but I cannot update existing apps or use Facetime. Also, the new password is not recognized when trying to re-set my ipad 2.
I also had much trouble setting up a new apple password. The information to do this was not sent to the email I use, but to another email of mine.
Any help is appreciated. This is my first post.

  • HT201253 Why is my new generation iPod not syncing my music?

I was recently bought for Christmas the new generation iPod Touch all the software on both my iTunes and iPod is up to date. The problem is when I go to sync my music across it won't sync with the iPod, the summary screen recognises that the music should be synced ( I am seeing grey dashed circles) but when I look under music on my iPod there isn't any.

what does the dotted circle mean?
Dotted circles next to songs, won't sync, red circle with square?

  • Volume issue with new 30G IPOD and Dock while playing through a stereo.

Sorry if this has been discussed before, I recently purchased a 30G Video IPOD and Dock. While playing through my Stereo I notice that 1) I have to turn up the volume on the IPOD to more than 50% and volume on the receiver to over 50% also and 2) the varience in volume of some of the songs varies consideably. I played by IPOD at a friends home through his Dock and stereo and he controlled through the volume control only on his stereo (same Onkyo as mine), it overode the IPOD volume control. His Dock is about a year old, seems strange that when I use my Dock on his stereo it requires the volume use on BOTH the IPOD and the Stereo. So it would appear that his older Dock is more convenient to use than my new Dock? The fluctations in volume of the odd song is still evident on his stereo as it is on mine.Any comments anyone? Thanks in advance. Larry

Make sure Soundcheck on the iPod is enabled.
I recall a few other people have mentioned the volume control on the iPod affected the volume out the back of the Universal dock.
I have the older dock and it is not affected by the Volume control of the iPod.

  • Can't upload TV Shows to new 30g iPod Video

We just purchased the new iPod Video (30g) and in Windows XP, iTunes 7 all of the songs and music videos uploaded. However, none of the TV Shows uploaded.
    Any ideas?

The only other thing I can think of is listing the past history:
    1. Had an iPod Mini before and older version of iTunes.
    2. Purchased the TV Shows before buying the new iPod Video
    3. Upgraded to iTunes 7 and then sync'd to new iPod.
    TV Shows missing on iPod
Could the older iPod be the problem here? Are the shows flagged as not being available to upload to the new iPod?

  • New shuffle will not fully charge. green light never comes on

can leave my shuffle docked all day, never fully charges till the green light comes on. only amber light. its not my computer or usb cable or my settings as my sons nano charges just fine thru the usb. this shuffle is 5 days old.
    [Edited by host.]

I agree with you sir....same problem with me....my 2nd shuffle is a week old.....I have never ever seen a steady green or an orange light even after 20 hours of continuous charging though an USB 2.0 port on a Win XP Pro desktop PC....All I see is a blinking orange....I have tried following the doc that was suggested to you....reseting it five times......nothing works......contacted apple chat support.....they ran me through the same steps.....does not work....trying a different port and a different computer does not help either....I go to the local apple-authorized dealer from where I bought the shuffle....they have look at me as if I just spoke some fluent Chinese!!...they have absolutely no idea of what I am talking about....they are very ignorant...I am extremely disappointed.....showing them the apple support pages drew the reaction "Oh my god...what are these pages all about...why do they even exist?"......I have done a better job at looking at a solution....but so far I have not been able to find a solution to this problem.......Can someone offer a solution!!!!!!!...........
I am just waiting to discharge it completely and then check it for the last time before I take it back to the store....

  • Ipod not fully synchronising

I have a 60g ipod containing about 10,000 tracks, it is about 75% full. I added about 50 new tracks to i-tunes and wanted to synchronise the ipod and add the new tracks. I have the most recent version of i-tunes and the i-pod software, i updated i-tunes a couple of weeks ago, this is the first time I have tried to synch since (clue?).
Only the first few tracks loaded onto the ipod, I tried again and a few more loaded, tried again and a few more etc. It usually synchs OK no probs. I then clicked on restore thinking that might help, the ipod then only synched with about 20 tracks, did it again, 20 more etc. I now have an ipod containing approx 50 tracks and 10000 on my PC! can anybody help?

Shot in the dark but now try a reset on the iPod. Even after a restore, I have seen reports that the iPod can still act a little funny if certain things are not properly cleared out which even a restore might not do. So a quick reset after a full restore is suggested to make sure things like processor memory locations, flag set/reset by software, etc. get properly cleared out.
Worth a try since it is quick and easy.

  • IPod not anymore accessible through Front Row?!?

In Tiger I always where able to use Front Row to play anything on my iPod but since I updated to Leopard I cannot see the iPod anymore. Not in Music, nor in Sources.
I bought a 160 GB iPod because on my MacBook I only have a 80 GB HD. All my music is on my iPod because of the space limitation on the MacBook.
How can I restore the functionality of Tigers Front Row?
    Please advise!

I can't access my iPod through Front Row either.
Even with the new Front Row update 2.1.2 it doesn't work.

  • Need my purchased music on new computer, iPod not available

My computer crashed because of Windows Vista, so I had to install Windows 7 and therefore, reinstall everything on my computer (new iTunes, all files, etc.). I've been through this once before, but this time I didn't transer my purchased songs from my iPod before I sync-ed it. So, I've now lost access to all my purchased music. There must be a way to re-download for people whose computers crash, for instance, what about where the computer crashes before the music can be put on the iPod? Help. I'm annoyed.

Sorry, but officially Apple does not allow redownloads of purchased items other than iPhone/iPod touch applications. It's your responsibility to make backup copies in case something goes wrong with your system, as unfortunately it apparently did in your case, and you lose all the information on your hard drive (and note that, as you've discovered, an iPod is not a reliable backup). The official statement of their policy can be found here, among other places. If your hard drive was erased and you don't have a backup of your purchased items, and don't have them on an iPod, you're probably out of luck and will need to repurchase your tracks.
If you have your tracks backed up, post back and someone here can help you get them restored. Otherwise you can try contacting iTunes Store Customer Service and explaining what happened. Reportedly in some cases Apple has allowed redownloading on a one-time basis. But don't count on it.

  • My "other" e-mail account - not fully accessible?

I am a 2 week old iMac user. I signed on to my internet service provider e-mail account and I can read my e-mail and delete it but I cannot access the address book nor other features. I'm not receiving any error messages. Cookies are ON. I did install Norton Internet for Mac. This is a new problem and I wonder if it's some feature of my iMac or the Norton. Any suggestions?

Since there are no active virus attacks that Norton will protect you from you should get rid of it, at least until you understand your Mac a little better. Norton has been crap on PC's for years, and is unnecessary on Macs.
The symptoms you mention are not normal for a Mac, but all kinds of crazy things happen with Norton (it will protect you even if you don't need protection).

  • IPOD New Software - iPOD Not Recognised.

Today I successfully updated iTunes as I have done many times and this seems to have worked OK. However, for the first time I was prompted to update my iPOD software as well. After several of the usual green bars I was told that the update was successful but everything then just hung for a long time (most of a one day cricket match!!! and that is a looong time). Closed down iTunes and pulled the plug. Then iPOD didn't work at all. I have tried reloading iTunes and restoring iPOD but the same happens. Now iTUNES won't even recognise that my iPOD exists although it appears as a removable drive (not an iPOD) in Windows Explorer. Anybody out there have any ideas. I have pretty much exhausted all the Support suggestions.

Thanks for the interest Vic. I had already gone through all of the 5 stages from this support page but the restore stage seems to have left my iPod in a damaged state. Occasionally iTunes recognises this and offers to go through restore again but then hangs afterwards. The odd thing is that before, Windows recognised it as an iPod but now just calls it a removable disk. This is currently the only way I can unplug it. IPod seems to operate as normal but obviously is less useful with nothing in it! Any further ideas would be really appreciated.

  • New iPhone says not fully charged

I just got my iPhone yesterday and charged it overnight. When I went to get it this morning, the battery picture says that it's mostly charged but not all the way (80 or 90 percent). Any thoughts on what to do or why this is?

maybe it is not good to leave it left charging after it is FULLY charged, that will cause an overcharge, and maybe that is what causing the problem!!
am not an expert and that's only what i think about!!
make the phone go off by itself when no battery left, then charge it during the day till it shows that the battery is fully charged!!
