New 3GS 8GB vs Refurbished 32Gb ?

Hello,
I ordered an iPhone 3GS 32 Gb a month ago and I just got an email from my phone company saying that the iPhone 3GS are discontinued except for the 8Gb model.
They are now offering me a brand new 8Gb model or a refurbished 32Gb. I'm not really a fan of "refurbished" things. What would you guys do ? Is 8Gb still enough in 2010 ?
Thanks,

There is nothing wrong with refurbished. I try to buy refurbished when available.
As far as capacity, it all depends on how you are going to use the phone.

  • Updater for 3GS 8GB and 32GB the same?

OK, I have two iphones: A 3GS 32GB (will call it D) model and a newer 3GS 8GB (will call it N) model....each of course sync'd to a different MBP. Can I download the D model as normal, then copy the file to the correct location to the other computer thus avoiding having to download the file twice?
I wish iTunes remembered what phone you had then offered to download the update and not have to have the phone plugged in to do it.

The .ipsw file is the same for the 3GS, regardless of capacity. You should be able to do what you want with no problems. Before you copy the .ipsw file, delete any and all .ipsw files currently on the computer you're copying to. You will have to turn on "show all hidden files & folders to see them". The .ipsw file is located here:

  • Is the new ipod 5g going to be 8gb or just 32gb?

does the new ipod only come in 32gb ? or just for pre order

All Apple has said is that the 5G is available in 32 and 64 GB versions. I have no reason to believe there will be other versions.

You do realize that this article ( form August -beofore Apple announced the new iphone) was simply speculating on what the next iphone to be released would be.
You do not have to guess any longer.  Apple has allready released the iphone 4s.
You seem to be very confused about what this is saying.
This article simply guessed that maybe iphone was going to announce a new cheap iphone at the conferance which happend a couple of months ago.
We now know that this was completely wrong.  Apple released the iphone 4s.
The article does not mean that they would give iphone 3gs users a iphone 4 as  a replacement.  It meant that they would not make 3gs any longer and would now make a cheaper iphone 4 instead.
We now know that this was incorrect.

I have lost IMEI number and WIFI while downgrading on Iphone 3GS 8GB.Would I get back IMEI while resotring?

Since you attempted to downgrade the phone, you have no warranty and your ability to get support here or from Apple has been forfeited.
You're on your own.  A Missing IMEI is generally unfixable.  Buy a new phone.

  • I am having a 3gs 8gb and can anyone tell how i could confirm that whether my iphone is factory unlocked or jailbreak??

i am having a 3gs 8gb and can anyone tell how i could confirm that whether my iphone is factory unlocked or jailbreak??

It sounds like you are most likely going to need a hardware repair.  If the phone is still in-warranty, you should be able to do this pretty easily by contacting AppleCare at 1-800-My-iPhone (1-800-694-4766) or taking your phone to an Apple Retail Store.
The surest way to find out if an issue is software related is to restore the phone as a new device via itunes, then when prompted to choose between restoring from a backup and setting up as a new device, go ahead and disconnect the phone and test it before choosing one of those two options.  If the issue still occurs at this point, its not software related and the phone will need to be repaired.  However, if it did resolve the issue, you can plug the phone back into your computer and you will be prompted with the same options again, and may continue to restore from your available backup.
    Hope this helped!

  • New 3gs what OS is it running

I have a brand new never opened iphone 3gs im selling and a question came up as to what OS is it running. How do i tell? its still factory sealed??

Well, you can start with the day you purchased it and work back from there. And you could check to see how long your warranty has left (standard warranty is 1 year from the date of purchase). That might also give you an indication.

As I said earlier, the 3GS would be running at least 3.0, which was released on June 17, 2009 with the release of the 3GS a couple days later. 3.0.1 was released on July 31, 2009. 3.1 on September 9, 2009. 3.1.2 on October 8, 2009. 3.1.3 on February 2, 2010. Which brings us to 4.0 which was released on June 21, 2010. The iPhone 3GS (lowered price and 8GB model) and iPhone 4 went on the shelves June 24, 2010. So if you recently purchased a 3GS 8GB it is probably running 4.0.
The obvious solution is to open the box, turn it on (requires activation), and go to Settings > General > About.
    Hope this helps.

  • 1 new 3GS, 1 older 2GS, 2 different iTunes account. How to combine" it all?

    Greetings,
I just purchased a new 3Gs and still have my old 2G. My primary phone is the 3Gs. I have my son tryout the older 2Gs in the meantime. He want to check out apps especially. I still have all my original apps on the 2G (have NOT cleared the phone). Of course at this time without ATT activation (the 2G still has its original simcard though)
Here is what we want to do for now; I will label the options for clarity:
    1. I use my 3Gs with my own iTunes account on my own Mac - I want to have son use the 2G/w-o activation on his own PC +with my iTunes account+ (he already has iTunes installed on his Win machine, and has his own account). Possible?
    2. I use my 3Gs with my own Tunes account on my Mac - I want to have son use the 2G/w-o activation on his own PC *with his own already installed iTunes account.* possible?
It seems that I had read that iTunes EITHER allows for several devices (phones for example) on ONE account, OR that a iPhone can "tap" into more than one iTunes account besides the one it has been primarily used (registered) for.
    Thank you for any advice!
    - Roger T

Yes, you can do this. You can share your iTunes songs and apps with up to 4 additional computers. You must go into iTunes on the additional computer and authorize that computer by putting in your iTunes Apple ID and password. Be sure to log out and have him log back in when you are finished.
You can transfer apps by going into your iTunes, right-click on the App and select Reveal in Finder. Then drag the app to a thumb drive.
Plug the thumb drive into a USB port on your Son's computer and drag the app to the same folder in his iTunes.
Hint: the app will not show up in his iTunes until you double click it.

  • How do I connect my new 3gs iphone to itunes when i have a corrupted backup file

My iphone 3gs died (got stuck on the itunes screen) when I tried to upgrade it.  i never had a good backup for my phone but i tried to back up anyway. Didn't work.
Today I got a new 3gs at the apple store and now I'm trying to put everything back on it manually.  My contacts and calendar are in outlook.  My pictures are in a file on my computer.  My music is on my computer.  I don't know where my apps are (they were shown in itunes the last time I had my old phone plugged in).
So, the apple guy told me that he wouldn't restore the phone from back up, but i'm not exactly sure if that means I should reinstall itunes or just leave it as it is and set up my phone as a new device.  Any thoughts?

If you don't have a backup that is reliable, but all the components are there on your computer, I would start from scratch  and set it up as a new iOS device.

  • Setting Up New 3GS - Dilemma!  Help Please!

I got my new 3GS from Orange today.
My previous iPhone was a factory unlocked 3G from Italy running on Orange.
I inserted my new SIM card, plugged the phone into my iMac and completed registration via iTunes.
I have not actually activated my SIM card with Orange because they're closed until 08:00 tomorrow but the 'phone is "operational" because the on-slider is there, all the icons are there and my 'phone number is shown correctly in iTunes.
Here's the bit that worries me:
In iTunes the page states: "An iPhone has previously been synced with this computer". It then gives me 2 options: (1) Set up as a new iPhone. (2) Restore from the back up of Joe Bloggs iPhone.
I want all the features that come with a "legal" iPhone contract, I want to keep my original 'phone no. which I've had since 1996 and I would prefer not to lose all of my calendars, contacts, purchased applications etc.
Which of steps 1 and 2 above do I select and do I need to still activate my SIM card with Orange?

Restore from your backup & you should be fine.

  • Apple iPhone 3GS 8GB Blank Screen While Updating to IOS4.3.3

Hi have iPhone 3GS 8GB. This phone I got as replacement from Apple for my Previous iPhone which got stuck in recovery. This replacement phone was working on IOS 4.2.1.
A few days back Apple has released IOS 4.3.3 and while updating my iPhone via iTunes, there was some error message.
I tried it again and different different errors keep on coming. Now my Phone is totally blank. When I plug the Phone in Computer I can listen to USB Plugin sound coming from computer but nothing is coming on screen. It seems iPhone is stuck in DFU Mode.
Also when I plug the phone in computer iTunes POPs up and says phone is in recovery mode and when I restore the phone error 1600 keeps on coming.
I am 100% sure there is some software issues with the phone as computer responds when I plug in and Plug out the phone (USB Sound). Can any wise person on this Group help me out with the same.
    Regards,
    Anshuman

are you able to see the apps on the home screen? If so, it's most likely an issue with your carrier
This is also an issue that can appear on devices that have been modified in an unauthorized manner (not judging, just saying)

  • Iphone 3GS 8GB reborn?

Hi everyone, I have heard that Iphone 3GS 8Gb is reborn. Is it true or it's just a rumor? Thanks

    Thank you Varjak and Deggie.
You know, I live in Vietnam and in our country, they didn't offer Iphone 3Gs 8Gb anymore since Apple have launched Iphone 4S and 4GS. But recently, they've start selling Iphone 3Gs again with just 250 USD. I wonder if this is Apple's policy.
    Best regards,

  • Which iOS version on a new 3Gs?

I'm looking at buying a new 3Gs in one week and was wondering which version of iOS it will come with. I've been reading about the Wifi troubles with version 4, so I'm hoping it comes with 3.x and I can just avoid upgrading until the issues are resolved. Thanks!

    Hello Deepak,
thank you for your helpful answer.
I´ve downloaded the latest MaxDB (7.8.02.27) from SAP SWDC.
As i wrote a detailed and good installation manual would be nice, since there are some new options in 7.8.
(e.g. private data path(?) and i would understand a little bit what i´m doing.
