New 3rd Generation 8GB Exactly same as 2nd Generation?

Just a simple question: Is the just released 3rd Generation iPod Touch 8GB EXACTLY the same as the 2nd Generation iPod Touch 8GB?
I was going to get the 2nd Generation a couple of months ago but wanted the latest so waited for the 3rd Generation iPod Touch 8GB. Software updated for the 2nd Generation iPod Touch 8GB so no change what so ever... what's the point in calling it updated?
I could have had an iPod Touch 8GB months ago! Now I'm thinking pay alot extra for the 32GB just for a few extra features!?
Thanks, just would like to clear up if there are ANY differences?

Do these two improvements apply to the New 3rd Generation 8GB Model?
No, Poikkeus is 100% wrong. As I posted, the 'new' 8GB model is the same hardware-wise as the 'old' 8GB model.
Only the new 32GB and 64GB benefit from the faster hardware.

  • Is the new Ipod Touch 8gb the same as the 4th generation?

Hi, I'm looking into getting the Ipod Touch 5th generation 8gb. I have the 3rd generation 8gb and I found that this was pretty much the same as the 2nd generation, so when I tried to update to the new iOS at the time, it only had limited features, while the 32GB+ versions had the full set. It even comes up that I have a 2nd generation Ipod touch registered to my account, whereas I paid for a 3rd generation model -.-
I dont really need 32GB so I was wondering whether I'd have the same problem with the 8GB 5th generation when a new iOS update comes out. Thanks

    - You said: " I have the 3rd generation 8gb ".  You have a 2G iPod  Apple only made 32 and 64 GB 3G iPods.  When Apple introduced the 3G iPods, the 8 GB 2G iPod but  with updated iOS was continued to be sold.
    - There is not 5G iPod touchyet.  The ones introduced in October 2011 are sill 4G iPod but with a less expenisve price and also available in white.  There is not confusion  like there was when the 3G iPod was introduced.

  • Is my ipad new(3rd generation) with at

can i used my new ipad 3rd generation with at&t carrier in other country?or i need to unlocked it?

iPads are not locked. They all have a GSM sim card slot for use with GSM worldwide. Read the specifications. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1899
Of course there must be a provider in your country that supports iPad data plans and you must subscribe to that plan.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Is the new Ipod Touch 5g compatible with all of the ios 6 features and is the new Ipod have the exact same design as the Iphone 5 for example square sides, instead of curving sides?

Does the new Ipod have the same features as the Iphone 5 in terms of panorama, or like the new Isight camera? Like the same features/ design?

it is compatible with most iOS 6 things, the main difference is just the fact that it doesn't have 3G or 4G, which limits how much it can use Siri or Maps.
it does have panorama, and a 5 MP iSight camera. the design is different. it is a lot thinner, it has curved edges, and at no part of the side is it flat, same for the top and bottom. that is NOT the case for iPhone. also the iPod doesn't have a mic. on the front.
    hope this answered your question.
just remember this for iOS 6: pretty much everything that doesn't always require internet the iPod can do. if it is something liketurn by turn direction, unless you have wi-fi in car, it wont work.
if you need siri for anything outside of wifi, unless it's something on the hard drive itslef, i.e. setting up reminders, it wont work for thing such as facebook posts, looking for restaurants, etc.

  • Using new 3rd generations nano with OS 10.3.x

    Hi
Got a new nano and want to use it with my emac. Messege is that new nano requires 10.4 or greater OS. Does anyone knows how the fix this without buying new OS for mu mac ?

I'm afraid you would need to have Tiger installed, the most recent iPods require OS X 10.4 and iTunes 7.4 as a minimum, they won't work with Panther: iPod: Minimum System Requirements

  • Can I swap my new 3rd generation Ipad 64 gb for an Iphone 5

I have recently purchased an Ipad and discovered it is not what I want and would like to find the possibility of swapping it for an Iphone 5. My Ipad is totally unmarked and in perfect condition. Should anyone be able to help.

If you are within the return period (usually varies between 14 - 30 days
depending on vendor), return it to get your money back and buy iPhone
    5. If not in return period, sell the iPad and use the money received
    toward an iPhone 5.
Apple does not have an exchange program.

  • 3rd generation iPod Touch and Video Out - "whoops!!!"

Before I jump to any conclusions about Apple, here is my experience with the Video out operation of my brand new 3rd generation 64 GB iPod Touch. This is my third iPod and about a year ago I decided (at great personal expense) to purchase the Apple Composite AV Cable (despite the fact that you can buy copies of the cable on eBay for 1/10th the price). When I plugged this cable into my new iPod touch, the Video Out option was greyed out. I tried lots of different things but eventually gave up and went to the Apple Store to see what it said about compatability. Sure enough, the 3rd Generation Touch is the ONLY iPod, iPhone etc not mentioned. I call my friendly apple support person who says "*of course it will work, I am 100% sure*". I then jokingly asked if he would give me $1000 if he was wrong and begrudgingly he put me on hold "just to check". 15 minutes later (unusual for Apple) he came back to me saying that *I "might" be right but he was 100% sure that if I connected my cable via a Universal Dock it would work.*
Now, before I go out and spend any more money on a Universal Dock, has anybody tried this? Why would apple make the change ONLY to the 3rd Gen iPod touch?
I have noticed that there is one nasty non-apple cable on the market that claims it will work BUT it doesn't have the ability to charge...... besides I ONLY buy legit Apple products.
    Any comments?

Wow Apple pulled tha last post almost as quick as it was written.
I have been in the IT industry for 18 years, when I started out I read the Mac bible and got a job supporting 1000 macs (remember the wonderful days of the symbol of the little bomb and all you could do is re-install the OS - what a joke). We ditched the Mac due to limited application support (nothing has changed much has it). I did not look at another apple product for 15 years, got a Touch for free ( CC points) Firmware 2.2, loved the little bugger, had a whole new respect for Apple. Happily got 2 cables from eBay for $5.00 for both, video to the tv, charging, audio, best of all worlds. Then, I upgrade to version 3.01 for $5.00, what a deal, copy paste, etc. till I plug in my cables and nothing works anymore. Take it to the car for my FM receiver,. only mono now. Oh sorry you now have to dish out $50.00 for our cables (the /B version not the /A cause we even screwed our customers that bought our own cables) and oh ya you can only buy over priced FM receiver products that pay bloated license fees to Apple. Then we come to your story, you buy "Only Apple products" which do not work (check for the /A model of the cable, you need the /B (/B= Buy again?? Maybe) and then the support guy tells your to go out and spend yet another $50.00 on a universal dock and you are asking if you should do it. Sure spend another $50.00 for the chip enabled dock, it will work, hmm, I think I have put together a pc for less than $100.00

  • Do All New 3rd Gen iPod Touches Mome with 3.1.1

I was just wondering if all the new 3rd generation iPod Touches 32's & 64's) come with the new 3.1.1 firmware already installed?

Did you look at the ipod touch page or 3.1 software page on Apple's website?
One of the very first sentences:
"iPod touch comes with the latest software already installed."
    http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/features/more-features.html
    Also:
"The iPhone 3.1 software for iPod touch is included with all iPod touch models purchased after September 9, 2009."

  • I have a 3rd Generation Ipod touch and it is updated to the 5.0.0 OS. However I just got another 3rd generation 32gb IPod Touch--it is exactly the same, but it will not update on any computer I have authorized. I have tried restoring it HELP!!

The Icloud on the newer i pod will not activate and itunes will not let me download my icloud songs on itunes that i bought on my other ipod how do I update the new ipod and add icloud so i can put my music on it???

What happens when you try to update/restore Erro message?
Is is a 2G iPod? They look the same.
The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318.

  • How can I determine if my Ipod Touch 8gb is a 2nd or 3rd generation?

I purchased a MacBook Pro in September when they were having the special where you could get an Ipod Touch 8 gb for free.
Well, I have decided to keep my old Ipod Touch just b/c it is working fine and I would like to sell my new one. The new one is in the original packaging and I don't want to remove it so I can sell it as new, never been out of the box.
My question is how can I tell if this is a 2nd or 3rd generation Ipod Touch? I looked on my invoice and couldn't figure it out. I noticed on CL and EBay, everyone indicates 2nd or 3rd and I want to have the correct info.
I am "guessing" it is 2nd generation and that is why it was part of the promotion.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks so much.

That isa correct, the 8 GB is still 2nd Gen. The only ones that are any different are the 32 or 64 GB versions. This is a 2nd Gen iPod.

  • Difference between 2nd generation and 3rd generation 8Gb iPod touch

    Hello,
I recently won a 2nd generation 8Gb iPod Touch (Part No. MB528LL/A) that I would like to sell. I want to be able to tell the buyer the differences between the 2nd generation model and the 3rd generation model. According to Wikipedia in regards to the 3rd generation model:
"The 8 GB version is a reissue of the 2nd generation iPod touch hardware, includes OS version 3.x, but does not include support for Voice Control or the remote earphones with microphone."
According to Wikipedia in regards to the 2nd generation model:
"iPhone OS 2.0 and App Store access standard. Bluetooth support added but not made active until iPhone OS 3.0, which requires an upgrade fee."
Does anyone know if these statements are true? Are there any other differences? Is the 2nd generation model more or less desirable than the 3rd generation?
    Thanks in advance!
