New: 4.02 software Update - what's in it?

I did it remotely so didn't catch any update notes. Is there a place one can go to see what's in an update?

I was also speaking to apple care about another thing I noticed and they confirmed that 4.0.2 also changes the persistent wifi settings.
PReviously on 4.0.1 when the phone was in sleep the wifi would remain active for 30 minites but in 4.0.2 they changed it to the old behaviour of turning off after the phone has been asleep for 10 seconds or more.

The battery drain issue started when I updated my iphone 4 to the IOS 6.1.2.
The battery will go from 100% to 0% in about 3 hours !!!
I called Apple support and they told me that they are not aware of an issue affecting the battery with the latest update. They did a diagnostic test on my iphone and found that my battery is healthy. Then then recommended that I backup my iphone, restore the factory settings and recover after that. In other words, delete everything off my iphone and reinstall everything all over again. I waisted a couple of hours doing that and .....I still have the issue of the battery drain.
I finally discovered the problem, and thus the solution!
To solve this issue, do the following:
Settings ---> Mail, Contacts, Calendars --->Fetch New Data ---> Advanced
Now click on your hotmail account or your company email account (anything in that folder other than yahoo, gmail or aol),
Change the setting from Push to Fetch !!!
And Viola ! Problem will be solved !
The problem seems to be that the mail exchange (i.e. microsoft, hotmail...etc) keeps checking and pushing emails from the exchange server every second (continiousely) and this is causing the battery to drain.When you change the setting to Fetch, then emails will start downloading every 15 min; but at least your battery will hold charge as it is supposed to do, until Apple comes up with 6.1.3 that hopefully will fix this issue.

If it hangs much longer you may need to disconnect and then grab a micro USB to restore through iTunes

Maybe you have a beta version of iOS6 in your Ipad. if is this, you have to put the ipad in recovery mode in itunes and then the update will start.
To put the ipad in recovery mode, you have to turn of the ipad. In your pc/mac Itunes has to be running, and plug the cord, but when you do that you have to press the home button until a message shows up in itunes!!

Welcome to the user to user Apple Support forums.
I have tired Safari and Firefox on CNN and the video seems to load just fine, also there isn't any widespread issue. So I'm thinking this is a specific issue to your machine.
I don't know why the videos are not playing, I'm assuming you have a fast enough Internet connection, but we can try a few things like installing any and all codecs and running some maintainence and repair functions that might clear the issue up.
Install the software at these two locations and reboot your machine, see if the site works.
Perian (installs additional Quicktime codecs)
FlipForMac (Windows media in Quicktime)
You'll likely come across media that requires these codecs eventually so for all intensive purposes it's eliminating a possiblity.
Also I just noticed the CNN site uses Flash, please update your Flash player plug-in here

Depending on your model, you might not be able to update. For example an iPod touch 2nd Gen. can't be updated to more than 4.2.1.

New Hard Drive - Software Update Problem

I have a 13' MacBook Pro running OS X v.10.6.7 Snow Leopard, a little more than a year old. A few weeks ago, it had a kernel panic..long story short, ended up needed my hard drive replaced. Now I have the new hard drive, moved all of my files from my external HD back onto the laptop. When I tried to open iTunes, I get the following message: The file “iTunes Library.itl” cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. Would you like to download iTunes now?. So, I ran Software Update, which tells me I have 11 items to update. I click Update, it goes through and updates for about an hour, then tells me I need to restart to complete the update. I click restart, then a screen pops up telling me that I have items that need to be updated, would I like to update and restart? So I click update and restart, it seems to go through and update the same 11 items before an error message appears telling me the update could not be completed. This has happened every time I try to run the software update. Any suggestions?

Try installing the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo.
Restart your Mac after the combo is installed.
If necessary, you can Re-create your iTunes library and playlists

Reboot fails after software update - what now?

I've just performed a regular software update. I think it included the following 4 items:
- iPhoto 08 (enhanced printing etc.)
- Raw module update
- 10.5.5 update
- ??? don't remember this one
Three of the updates required a reboot so I opted to reboot immediately after installation.
Unfortunately I do not get beyond the white screen. I don't even get to the apple logo screen? Is there any way to restore without doing a reinstallation of the OS?
This is the first time I'm running into serious issues like this
Any help appreciated.

Yes, I stopped doing multiple updates, esp. those requiring a reboot. I do the one-at-a-time now, and for the major updates, I do them manually from the Apple download page.
You have what I call a "stuck" update and what usually clears it is a safe boot.
Boot into the safe mode by holding down the shift key during boot. At the login screen just click restart and see if the system boots normally (it usually does) and see if all the DLs installed.
Post back either way. We never give up

Brand new Nano needs software update??

I just got a 2GB Nano for my wife and have it installed. it synced most songs just fine, but it did not download purchased music. It then says that not all songs could be downloaded because the software is too old. I checked on the Apple page and the Nano software is 1.0 and that is what is installed on the Nano. I tried to download the update and it doesnt load because it is already installed on the computer from my 3Gen iPod. Any ideas as to what is going on and how do i fix it??

I also am having exactly the same issue as James with my computer. In fact all of the music and free podcasts download to the Nano except music purchased from itunes. I am getting the same message to update my ipod software. On about every 5th download attempt it successfully loads the purchased music. All other automatic updates remove the purchased music and indicate that I require an ipod software update.
Thanks for the suggestions, Chris. I have also reset the ipod and deauthorized/reauthorized my account. Great idea, but not a solution for me. I too am running 6.0.1(3). I believe Apple should be concerned with this problem - a Nano that runs everyone else's music except that obtained legally through Apple I-tunes.

ITunes says new version available / Software Update says no updates???

I started iTunes today on my MacBook Air and it immediately reported that there is a new version of iTunes available. After responding to the prompt regarding a new version by clicking on the "Download iTunes" button, iTunes launched Software Update. However, Software Update does its check and then comes back with a message that there is no software to update.
The version of iTunes on my system is 10.2, not the new 10.2.1. Anyone have any idea why Software Update does not believe there is an update when iTunes does? Any way to fix this?

I've a 2010Mini and a late2008MBP15, both running OSX 10.6.6.
Updating to 10.2.1 went charming well on the mini, but not the same on the MBP:
iTunes "info on iTunes" shows version 10.1.1 running... even after I removed iTunse (and iTunes Helper) from the HDD and re-installed from a freshly downloaded 10.2.1 DMG file.
As i start iTunes, it shows "upgrade available" message, but software upgrade utility doesn't find any upgrade, of course.
BTW, I even verified iTunes.app version using "file information" and the one in my Applications folder is 10.2.1... but as I run it, it "believes" to be 10.1.1
Any Clue?

So I updated my Iphone 4s with the new 7.1.1 software update and now my phone is stuck with the screen showing the itunes logo and under it an arrow pointing at the logo with the power cord underneath. Itunes store says that my phone is currently in recovery mode. ***? I wasn't trying to recover the phone just update the freakin software!!! Getting real close to getting my Samsung S5 now!!

iPhoto 9.5 is free if you are an iPhoto '11 user. To check this, open a Finder window and select Applications in the sidebar. Then, right-click iPhoto, select Get Info and see the iPhoto version. If it's 9.x.x, you are running iPhoto '11.
If you are running iPhoto '11. switch the Mac OS X language to English in System Preferences > Language & Region, and restart. If not, you have to buy iPhoto '11 in the Mac App Store
