New 750 GB Module added - won't mount/orange light

I just added a new 750 GB drive to the lower controller (slot 8), it's the only one in the set. It won't mount and an orange light is showing. I've powered up and down several times, restarted the G5, checked my connections and still nothing.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
RS

Who makes the drive? Is it an Apple Drive Module or did you replace with a 3rd party drive? If the latter, was it the same make/model as the one you replaced? I think for 750s the only drives that would work are the Seagates.

  • New SanDisk Cruzer Switch 8GB Won't Mount Properly

I bought two brand new SanDisk Cruzer Switch 8GB USB flash drives yesterday, but neither of them will mount on my Mac. When I insert one, it appears briefly in Finder, but after about 30 seconds it unmounts itself, and gives me the message that the disk was not ejected properly. I have tried reformatting in Disk Utility but there isn't enough time before it unmounts.
I have another SanDisk 32GB which works fine.
Normally I would write this off as one bad apple, but it's happening with both the new drives..? Should I just take them both back? An extensive Google has revealed nothing of value.

you already tried all the tricks, so the last thing to do is to call Acer support service.

  • New FireWire external hard drive won't mount: conflict with iSight?

My parents just upgraded their eMac (1 GHz, 1GB RAM) to Leopard and bought an external FireWire hard drive to use Time Machine. We got the drive back to their place, powered it up, and plugged it in via the FireWire cable. Nothing. Wouldn't mount, didn't show up in System Profiler or Disk Utility. We tried a few more times but eventually gave up and figured the drive was DOA.
After I got home, I realized I should have had them unplug their iSight and try again. Is the FireWire bus on the eMac balky enough that this one additional device could have caused a conflict? They're not using any FireWire hubs: these were the only two devices on the bus.
If it does work without the cam attached, is there then any way to get the two devices to play nicely together afterward? They use the cam all the time for videochats with family, so I'm not about to tell them they have to give that up just to get more frequent backups.
    Thanks!

Thanks for your speedy reply. How appalling that a computer with two FireWire ports can't use two FireWire devices! And it's Apple's own device that causes the conflict. I can't even think of an easy workaround, since the whole point of Time Machine is that the drive remains connected all the time.
I guess I could have them eject the drive, unplug it, and connect the iSight whenever they want to start a videochat. If the eMac only had USB 2.0, this would be moot! D'oh.
I'm getting ahead of myself, though -- I still have to go to their place and try the external drive without the iSight attached. Thanks again for confirming my suspicions.

  • Crucial SSD won't mount on my Macbook Pro 13" early 2011

Hi, a brand new Crucial SSD in a brand new 2.5" USB3 enclosure won't mount on my Macbook Pro 13" early 2011.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks

    Try different USB cables.
    Try a different enclosure.
    Try all USB ports.
    Try it on another Mac.
Is no success, the SSD may be DOA.
    Ciao.

  • DVD won't mount on OS X Mavericks

I have some movies that I want to watch on my computer, I have a Macbook Pro (2009) with OS X Mavericks installed.  I've been successful in mounting and watching some older DVD's, but these new DVD's I have won't mount, is there some sort of work around or something that new DVD's have that won't let them mount? Or is this with OS X Mavericks and some protection device?
    Thanks

Anyone have any ideas or thoughts on this?  Thanks!

  • New Lacie Rugged Thunderbolt External Drive won't mount on Macbook Pro 8,1

I've searched, and am coming up empty handed. Any help would be appreciated.
    So I own a late 2011 Macbook Pro 8,1. that's running version 10.9.5.
I bought a brand new Lacie Rugged Thunderbolt External HD that won't mount via Thunderbolt, though it works fine with the USB. Any ideas as to why the Thunderbolt connection isn't working?

Silly question, but - did the drive come with a Thunderbolt cable or did you purchase one with the drive?

  • New MBP won't mount some CD/DVDs; why?

When i insert certain CD/DVDs the optical drive clicks and buzzes three times before spitting the disk out again. Even the Leopard install disk that came in the box won't mount.
Strangely every type of blank media that i have tried works without any problems, as well as a select number of DVDs and CDs (the Remote Desktop install DVD and some music CDs work perfectly). I had no problems burning disks either.
Could this strange behavior be caused by minute differences in the size of the hole in the middle of the CD/DVD?
I don't live close to an Apple Store so i would like to try to solve this myself, as i am reasonably technically competent. Thanks in advance to anyone who can give me some advice

Got the same problem on y brand new 17". The optical drive doesn't mount most DVDs, including the System Installer DVDs included with the Mac. The disc gets pulled into the slot, but then the drive seems to have difficulties holding on to it. There is a constant rhythmic "seeking" sound (or sometimes a disturbig noise like a broken washing machine) and after about a minute, the disc gets ejected. Strangely, about 10% of the roughly 30 commercial DVDs I've tried are always accepted and being played without a problem. Those that won't mount reliably don't, but play perfectly fine in two other computers. Something's a bit loose here, it seems...

  • IPod won't mount on new Mac Pro

I just got a new Mac Pro that came with Snow Leopard. After getting everything setup I plugged in my iPod shuffle and it won't mount when plugged into either of the 2 front USB ports or any of the 3 back USB ports. When I plug it into the USB port on the keyboard it mounts and I can sync it through iTunes. When plugged into the front two ports the green charging light comes on, but it doesn't mount. The back 3 ports just cause the iPod to blink the green charging light quickly, it isn't a solid green.
I don't know if this is a Snow Leopard problem or the Mac Pro. The iPod was working perfectly with my G5 running Leopard.
    Any ideas?
    david.

I just don't get computers sometimes (even after being a software developer for over 25 years).
I had restarted the computer multiple times while installing other software but the iPod would not mount.
I took your suggestion to try another USB device and the only other device I had was a Canon scanner. I installed the drivers which required another restart. And the scanner worked and now the iPod works on all of the USB ports. It is mounted in iTunes and I can sync it on any port.
I checked the console logs files and didn't find anything unusual before it didn't work and nothing different now that the iPod mounts.
    David.

  • Old ipod won't mount to new macbook pro

Hello, I just set up my new MacBook Pro, and when I try to connect my ipod, it won't mount either to the desktop or into iTunes. the screen of the ipod says "do not disconnect" just like with the old computer... and I transferred my account and music and settings from the old one to the new one.
    anyone have any ideas?
    thanks,
    Bruce
Oh yeah... it's a 40 Gig with a scroll wheel... not sure the "name" of the generation, it says "copyright 2003" on the back.
and my new shuffle works just fine with the new computer...

Which version of iTunes does your new MacBook have? You will probably want to update it if it isn't 9.2. Do that first. Also, restart your MacBook book. That will make sure that everything else is working properly as well (I'm thinking USB ports).
If your touch is still not recognized, you will need to make sure that Apple Mobile Device Services is running properly on the MacBook. See this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747
And if you are close to an Apple store and tired of playing with it, make an appointment with Genius and take your MacBook and touch in and let Apple fix it.

  • Wallstreet won't mount modules

I bought this used a year ago- went up to 9.2.1 and put in more RAm- jammed the keyboard in doing so and had to take it to an Apple store-- they replaced the keyboard and said new drivers were needed and located them for me--after they were installed worked. Two weeks ago the WS died- totally- took me this long (I am a bit slow) to figure out it was the power adapter--and the battery had long since died. It will now boot up and the battery is re-charging- but none of the modules will mount--I put one in (I have the VST -Zip 100, Super disk, and CD modules- none will mount)-- I made sure that the drivers that were put in a year ago were kept intact and they are still there, but...nothing. I keep them (also) on the desktop and re-installed even though I could see they were installed. I am stuck with no way to communicate with the laptop--any suggestions. Remember I am a bit slow, so really dumb down any replies-- thanks!!

Hi all- here is the status. Not solved, but making progress!
I tried resetting the PRAM (thanks for the explicit directions- easy)- and both the cd and floppy modules mount and run. However, the zip disk module still will not. The zip disk is what i was using 100% of the time- and it is used--so I am going to gamble tht it is a coincidence that it died at this point and replace it. In the meantime, I copied some letterheads 9with designs) onto a floppy and am typing to that-- then trotting the floppy over to the tower and printing--back in business.
I checked the OS--while the installation disc I used says 9.2.1, when I boot up and ask- it says 9.2.2-- so I guess I was wrong!! I will locate the FindIt --if I can and trash it. right this minute I am annoyed at continually getting the register screen for Iomega. That is a change- I only got that once years ago when I originally got the zip drive for the tower--so I registered and that was it-- now with the reinstall of the drivers- I keep getting it over and over and.... But hey- this is progress --at least it boots and I can type! thanks all- if the "new" zipdisk module STILL will not mount and run (I'll let you know)- I guess it is time to quit/settle for the floppy.take it to an Apple store--we'll see.
    thanks

  • MBPro won't mount or misreads new iWork'09 CD

I bought this MacBook Pro new from Apple in April 2008. iWork has never been installed on it.
Yesterday I bought a new iWork'09 installation CD. My MBPro won't mount the CD on its desktop, or if mounted, misreads the new iWork'09 CD as follows:
In its attempt to install, the iWork Installer instead displays a blank "Read Me" screen and a blank "License" screen. Then, after I employ the appropriate "Continue" clicks, and finally click "Install", the Installer (rather than installing the software) displays in its "Summary" screen the following alert icon and 3 lines of text.
    "<< a yellow triangular "!" icon >>
    The Installation Failed.
The Installer could not install the software.
The Installer could not install the software because there was no software found to install."
It's been suggested the MBPro's CD drive is bad, but I use CDs in that drive 3-4 times /week without any problem at all. Plus, today I loaded literally 12 other odd installation CDs from various sources and they all loaded without incident.
Further, I ran both the short and the extended "Apple Hardware Test"s from the MBPro's original Install Disks. The result from both tests was "No trouble found." (And of course the CD containing this test software was run in the MBPro's CD drive itself.)
I don't think this is a problem with the MBPro's CD drive, but get this, when the CD in question is loaded into a Mac at the local Apple shop, at least up the point of actually clicking "Install", it seems to function properly.
    Any insights? (please)

I’ve read through many of these posts regarding CD drive malfunctions of one sort or another and decided my next efforts should be to clean the drive. My plan was to buy a drive cleaning kit/disc tomorrow and, with crossed fingers, give that a shot.
I’ve always been obsessive about cleaning CDs prior to inserting them into drives. I’ve admittedly been less concerned with new CDs, as I assumed they were clean. This is not necessarily so.
As I’ve described, this new iWork’09 CD, fresh out of its packaging and appearing pristine, could not be properly read by my drive.
However, once wiped with a clean cloth in a 3 second maneuver it functioned swiftly to install the iWork software. --- Problem solved. --- Incredible.
(I used the cloth provided by Apple to clean the MBPro’s display.)
And thanks to those of you who emphasized cleanliness.

  • New 27 iMac won't mount my 3tb WD My Book.

New 27 iMac (10.7.3) won't mount 3tb WD My Book. It worked fine for about a month and then suddenly said it wasn't ejected properly (it wasn't ejected at all). Now my iMac won't recognize the drive. It doesn't come up in disk utilities, it's invisible.
I think the issue may have started when I restarted my iMac. First the power of the external drive wouldn't come on and now that I resolved that I can't get it to mount.
    Help!

Disconnect all your peripherals, reset the PRAM
    and then reconnect everything.

  • New partition on external hard drive won't mount

I have an 2TB external drive connected by FireWire to my 24-inch, Early 2009 iMac. I created 2 partitions 1 that is about 35 GB and another that is the rest of the 2TB. The 2nd largest partition mounts fine and is being used by Time Machine for my back up. The 2nd one I wanted to use for a Tech Tool Pro eDrive. However the 35 GB drive won't mount. Well it mounts, but after a few seconds it unmounts itself. This is the message I get as it unmounts itself:

    Any ideas?
I've checked the partition with Disk Utility and no errors.
    Regards,
    Chris Johnson

If the drive has more than one interface (USB, FireWire, Thunderbolt, eSATA), try one of the other interfaces.
Check that the data cable is securely inserted at both ends.
    Try a different cable.
If you're connecting the drive through a hub, connect it directly to a built-in port on the Mac.
If you're connecting it directly, try a different port.
Disconnect all other devices on the bus, or as many as possible.
Test the drive with another Mac. Test another drive with this Mac.
If the drive is bus-powered, but has an AC adapter, connect the adapter.
Boot into Recovery and launch Disk Utility. Does the volume mount?
Start up in Safe Mode and test.
If the drive doesn't work under any of the above conditions, and if another drive does work with the same Mac, then the drive has failed. You may be able to salvage the mechanism by removing it from the enclosure and installing it in another one, or in a drive dock.

  • New HD won't mount?

I recently installed a Seagate 160GB hard drive but it won't mount. It is set as a slave and is recognized by the system profiler. How do I format/initialize this drive in disk utility?

Timmer, welcome, first go to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility and double click the Disk Utility icon. Select the drive to be formatted in the left hand column of the Disk Utility window. Now select erase from the upper menu and click the Erase button below. Then select Partition from the upper menu, you can create as make as many partitions as you like or keep just the one, now name the HD. Then format the drive to Mac OS Extended (journaled) and click the Partition button below. Now select First Aid from the upper menu and run Verify and Repair, then repair Permissions. Now you should be able perform your installations. Repair Permissions again. Good Luck.
