New 80gb "Unknown Error -48" issue.

I recently got a brand new 80gb iPod.
Whenever I plug it in, it goes through the motions, appears in iTunes as normal & then the following error comes up (I've screen grabbed it & put it here):
http://www.frostimagecreation.com/error/Error48.tif
If I okay that, the main iPod screen seems to show everything as normal. It says it's up to date & running software version 1.2.1 but the error message comes up if I try to add to the iPod.
If I delete stuff from the iPod, it deletes from the list on screen but as soon as I scroll, the error message comes up again. If I unplug the iPod & plug it back in the deleted stuff is still there.
The first time it happened I restored the iPod to its original settings & that seemed to cure it but the error has recurred. I don't want to restore it every time I plug it in!
Any ideas or should I just take it back?

Apple are working on a permanent solution for this so hopefully we'll see a firmware update to fix the bug soon. In the meantime their advice is to change the Time Zone settings on your Mac to Pacific Standard Time (PST), restore the iPod and then change the time setting back: iTunes for Mac reports a -48 error during iPod sync

  • ITunes 10.5 fails to copy new Podcasts / Unknown error occurred -69

I have upgraded to iTunes 10.5.0.142 and my iPhone to iOS 5.0
Since then I have downloaded Podcasts to thie Winows 7 Ultimate PC without problems... but I can't update my iPhone with any new Podcasts.  My iPod Nano also fails.  Each time iTunes tries to sync it (after a couple of minutes) displays the error message "Unknown Error Occurred (-69)" and then a new podcast is listed.  If I delete this particular Podcast and attempt another sync, iTunes fails with the same message but (obviously) pointing a finger at a different Podcast.
If I untick all new Podcasts, the sync works perfectly.
I have ... reset my Ipod, reformatted it, deleted and re downloaded podcasts.  I have also run a windows scan on the disk in question.
I don't believe in co-incidences and don't believe (a) my disk has un recoverable read errors for blocks downloaded since I upgraded to iTunes 10.5 nor (b) that both my iPhone and iPod have chosen this exact moment to die.
B u t ... my concern is... why isn't anyone else complaining about this issue?

I believe I have overcome the problem.  I removed, re-downloaded and re-installed both iTunes and Quicktime.  This allowed me to sync new podcasts downloaded after I did these re-installs.
This left me in the position that I could syn "old" podcasts, sync "new" podcats but the sync still failed on podcasts downloaded during the week bewteen the first installation of iTunes 10.5 and the re-installation... the un-syncables.
Here I just gave up: I deleted every podcast in this un-syncable group and re-downloaded them.  Result?  Happiness.
One other point: the un-syncable group podcasts took an inordinate amount of time after downloading while the screen displayed "Processing file".  This could take (literally) a minute instead of the normal second.
While I realise it must be very difficult for Apple to debug a problem effecting half a dozen customers out of tens of millions, I think Apple could/should enhance the message "Unknown error -69" to better explain what has gone wrong and what should be done to solve the problem.

  • Yes, I have the 'intellisync unknown error reported' issue too.....

Hi everybody and sorry for the blast about this well known error that a lot of people are faced against! I run a Windows XP SP2 OS hosting Outlook 2007 SP2 which updated an already existing Office 2003. I also have my Bold9000 and DM 5.0.1. Same error as reported by lot of people. I try to synch office calendar and receive this error. I followed all the steps that I found here and in other sites. So the question is: what is the 'state of the art' of the solution for such error as I assume that it is a windows related issue and not a DM one? Has anybody received some fresh tip from RIM support to bypass this situation? Thanks again and have a nice day!

    Hello!
Just to set the expectation properly -- these forums are a user-to-user support channel, not a user-to-RIM conduit. As such, it is unlikely that they will see what you have written. However, if you have specific and constructive ideas for them, I have heard that they accept such via email to [email protected]
Front line support for BB's is, by contract, not provided by RIM. The carriers and authorized resellers are responsible for front line formal support to end users. It is possible to bypass your carrier and seek assistance direct from RIM, but such involves fees since you are bypassing your support agreement with your carrier. The "Support and Services" tab toward the top of these forum pages provide information about that. But, if you do go through your carrier for support, they can escalate into RIM at no fee to you if they so choose to.

  • I get "Unknown Error." when trying to re-log into the iTunes Store for Windows

My AppleID and password work when using a web browser and logging in here, but not when i try to log in through iTunes for Windows.
My events leading up to the error are below. Any suggestions for a fix/solution?
    1) "Unauthorized Computer" message when trying to play newly bought iTunes movie.
    2) Authentication Failed using AppleID
    3) Sign out completely
3a) Try to sign in, but get "Unknown Error."
    4) Uninstalled iTunes
    5) Reinstalled iTunes
    6) Login attempt: Unknown Error
    7) Tried deleting "SC Folder" from User Tips
    8) Login attempt: Unknown Error
Any thoughts on what I could do differently to get this resolved?

How I solved my UNKNOWN ERROR login issue:
I figured out that I had downloaded the 32 bit version of ITunes but I have the 64 bit version of Windows 8.    So I uninstalled the 32. and downloaded and installed the 64 bit version of ITunes and everything worked just fine.  The Windows 8 firewall was not an issue.
How to determine your version of Win 8.     Go to Control Panel, System & Security, then System and that screen shows the version.
I just brought home a new Toshiba laptop and was surprised to see that I have the 64 bit version.  But pleased that I fixed the agrivating ITunes issue.
    Good luck!

  • IPod classic 80gb mb1477ll unknown error 53/50 when trying to sync?

So I have a 80gb ipod mb1477ll, and when I try to sync I get a couple hundred songs done and I get a "song title" cannot be be transferred because of an unknown error 53 or sometimes 50. I also sometimes get a "users" ipod failed because disk is not available. After I exit those dialogs it just sits there forever and says finishing sync do not disconnect at the top of iTunes. My wife's ipod 120gb classic same gen, I think works just fine with the same USB port and cable. I've been seeing that I probably need a new HDD for the ipod? What do you guys think? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • I was installing a new update on my MacBook Pro. With only 20% left it said "an unknown error had occured, please restart your computer." Now that I've restarted - I can't log in!

Ok, my MacBook haven't had any issues earlier, until today. At first Safari was acting kind of weird in that sense that a lot of letters were missing when you went on certain webpages, so I thought of updating since an alert-window popped up and notified that new updates were ready to be installed. So I opened up App Store through my Applications-folder and selected update.
First it asked if I wanted to connect my Mac to a powersource but since I had charged the battery to 79% I didn't think it was necessary. So I continued, computer restarted and began installing the updates.
Everything went fine until it was approximately three minutes left. An error message popped up and said something like "An unknown error has occured. Please restart your computer and try again". I pressed OK, rebooted my computer and when it asked for my password I typed it in. After I pressed OK, the computer indicated it was the wrong password. I tried multiple times and sometimes with different passwords... so now I can't simply log in! What's the problem?
TL;DR - Updated mac, failed after five minutes and now I can't log back in since "I have the wrong password"

    Hi Christianjr,
When you say you reset your network settings, what do you mean, exactly?
I saw another post on this issue, and the poster indicated that they resolved the problem by turning off their cellular date option and wifi options in Settings, and then turned them back on.
Also, resetting your phone may help - press the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold both down until the Silver Apple appears. Once it is back up, click on the update option and see if it fixes the problem.
If none of those things work, then need to have details on what you did to reset your network settings....

  • An unknown error occurred (-1) while trying to restore Ipad 3 new

Happy iPad users, I may need some help from you please.
I’ve got a problem with my iPad new 32 GB WiFi + 4G LTE.
I bought it just recently in China and was using it for nearly one month without any issues.
Then at some point i started getting synchronization problems with iTunes and applications that I have downloaded did not run properly or simply won’t start on my iPad. Then I’ve lost cellular signal.
Trying to resolve the issues I had to reset iPad to factory settings and after that I could not register it with apple. I tried many times with no success.
Then I went through some internet articles and decided to restore my iPad and finally I’ve got my almost new iPad stuck is restore mode!!!
I cannot get it out of restore mode and I cannot get it restored.
When I try to restore it I get the following message:the ipad "ipad" cannot be restored. An unknown error occurred (-1)the ipad "ipad" cannot be restored. An unknown error occurred (-1)
The ipad "ipad" cannot be restored. An unknown error occurred (-1)
Here are the things I’ve done so far trying to restore it
Tried to restore in on Windows XP – no luck, same message
Tried to restore it on Windows 7 – no luck, same message
Tried to restore it on MacBook – NO LUCK, SAME MESSAGE
Tried to use recovery fix option on redsn0w. Did not help. I tried different versions of this program with no success. Maximum what I had is my iPad was entering “white apple mode” after clicking fix restore button.
Tried to restore iPad from DFU mode both on Windows XP and Windows 7, no luck, same message (error -1)
I suspect that my iPad may have a hardware issue however I still hope it can be fixed with your help.
We don’t have an official apple support centers where I leave and I would like to try all the options before I send it to abroad apple support center or to a shop where I bought it.
Please can anybody help me with advice on how to fix my iPad?
    Thank you all in advance.

I am facing the same issue, have you had luck getting it solved?

  • IPad cannot be restored unknown error 1; I tried to update my iPad 1 to new os5 by syncing to new version of iTunes and found a message that my iPad needs to be restored.  I tried several times and continue to get same error code unknown 1; how to fix?

When trying to sync my ipad to latest version of itunes, it appears the ipad identity was lost and a message in itunes says to restore the ipad.  However, multiple attempts to do this continue to provide the "This ipad cannot be restored. Unknown error 1"  I have tried resetting my ipad which just brings back the screen to connect it to itunes.  I have updated all software on my computer and restarted.  No luck!.  Please help!!

    Thank goodness for this thread!
I installed iOS5 last night and was having the same problems described above with my iPad 1 32 GB + 3G.  Unknown Error (1) and was unable to restore.
I took my ipad to the local Apple Store today and was told by the genius that it was a hardware issue, and because the warranty had expired, there was nothing the Store could do.  He suggested that I try calling AppleCare.  Then I asked to speak with a manager.  He apologized again and said there was just nothing the Store could do.  I was close to leaving, when I asked a second time if it would be possible to see a Manager.
After asking a second time, he called a manager.  After explaining my issue to her, she immediately authorized him to give me a new iPad !   Anyone with this problem should definitely go to the store and be polite but adamant.  You should get a new iPad.

  • HT1351 I have tried numerous times to resolve an issue with my wife's iPod (5th gen#.  When I connect to iTunes I get a pop up error message that goes like this - The iPod "Linda's iOod" cannot be synced.  An unknown error occured #13019)...What do I do?

I have had very much trouble adding music to my wife's iPod.  Every time I connect to iTunes, I get an error message that reads ...The iPod "Linda's iPod" cannot be synced.  An unknown error occured (13019)...I have tried diagnostics, help and what ever iTunes has to offer and cannot fix the issue.  I want to add a new playlist with new music.  When I connect her iPod, the playlist shows up on her device.  When I disconnect, I can not find it in order to play it.  Help me.

Some other posts seem to indicate that the cause is related to voice memos.  You may want to try the remedy described in this document

  • Syncing issues (unknown error -50)

When I sync my iPhone to my iTunes (I'm running the latest), everything syncs except for my Photos. So when it gets to syncing my Photos...
    "Optimizing Photos x through x"...
    then, after like 4 seconds..
"The iPhone cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-50)"
The wierd thing is, when I went to sync my iPhone with my old computer (runs XP), all the photos on their syncs w/o any hiccups, and they are all the same pictures that I had transffered over to my new PC.
    Anybody have an idea

What version of iTunes is on your old computer (runs XP)?
The reason I ask, I recently got an iPhone 3G and had this same problem. Thinking it was iPhone only I sync'd my iTouch to prove my case and had the same issue. Research on the web shows this is a very common problem and is being attributed to iTunes 8.0.2. Unfortunately, there is no way to get a prior version of iTunes.
I've tried all the ideas brought forth on Apple Discussions (delete/rename photo cache, etc) and nothing works. At this point I've resolved myself to wait for the next iTunes version/update to come out.

  • I've been getting "Unknown error" a lot lately, is there a known issue here?

"Sync encountered an error while syncing: Unknown error."
I have been getting this error lately across multiple desktops. Is there a known issue recently introduced into the Firefox 4 beta series?

Have you tried the standard fixes:
    - Reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod from backup
    - Restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod.
