New 8900 software install failure... what now???

I got an 8900 from T-Mobile today. I started the installation with the supplied CD. There was a blip and it didn't complete. I've tried install, modify and remove and nothing will work. They all say another install is in progress and must be finished. It is version 4.7 on the CD and I think I've seen higher versions online. Should I just forget this and download/install a higher version from online? How can I resume this install if that's what I have to do? Thanks.

If you mean the desktop software, have you checked the installed programs list? If it is there, have you tried to uninstall it? If not check those and try that if possible.
If that doesn't work, you might have to download and install Microsoft's Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.(google for it). this program will remove the incorrect unfinished installation. Then reboot and try to re-install again.

Unless you've recently attempted to downgrade iTunes this is probably a sign of a corrupt library file. See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.

After you have installed the OSX on the new HDD in your MBP, install the old HDD in an enclosure and connect it to your MBP via USB.  Then try to drag and drop  your data to the new HDD.
If this proves unsuccessful, you may look for data recovery software on the Internet.  There will be free trails to see if it will work or not.  If the trial suggests that it will work, then you will have to purchase the software.
The last resort is a professional data recovery service that will offer NO guarantees and charge a lot of money.
As you now can appreciate, backups eliminate such predicaments.

What installed iPhoto there in the first place?  Was it the same version of iPhoto that came with the Mac?  Was iLife added at a later time from a Mac Box Set?   You can selectively install iPhoto, and then apply the appropriate iLife update without taking it to the shop, after removing the application, or recover it from your backup.

  • Just installed Arch - what now?

I just finished successfully installing archlinux - What now?
I had a quick peek at the wiki but it wasn't very helpful.
Playing around I couldn't get a single package to install - no x.org or kde. pacman kept coughing up a load of errors - for instance when I tried to do pacman -Syu it told me that it couldn't sync with the belnet mirrors for core, extra and community packages. 'failed to synchronize ... transient resolver error '
This can't be a repo problem because I installed it using internet files.
The fact that I can't even start to use it is frustrating - even grub didn't seem to pick up my windows partition even though the grub list looked fine and I installed it to the right harddrive afaik.
Any help? (especially for getting x.org and kde running! (or any packages installable for that matter!))

By the way: a lot of questions can be answered by searching the wiki.
Regarding your grub problem: Add this to your /boot/grub/menu.lst file:
    # Windows
    title Windows
    rootnoverify (hd0,0)
    makeactive
    chainloader +1
The string (hd0,0) points to my windows partition, which is the first partition on the first hard drive (counting starts with 0)
You see i'm sure those lines were in the grub boot list, but I will double check.
EDIT: Ah. They were commented out. Fixed this problem
I tried changing the mirrors for pacman to use, but it still made errors:
Warning current locale is invalid; Using default "C" locale
    :: synchronising package databases...
error : failed retrieving file 'core.db.tar.gz' from ftp.parrswood.manchester.sch.uk : transcient resolver failure
It says this for all of them, and did for the belnet mirror as well.
When I try to ping google it says unknown host - does that mean that my network isn't set up properly?

  • How to change number of retries and delay before retrying after software install failure

I deploy a software to client, but the installation is fail, so it will retry. but How to change the number of retries and delay before retrying after software install failure?
I find "Retry Settings" in "Software Distribution Component Properties". But I think it work for Distribution, not the installation. am I right?

First, are you referring to packages or applications because the behavior is different.
Also, why do you want it to retry a failure? It failed for a reason so you need to fix the cause of the failure first. If it failed the first, it will likely fail the next time for the same reason. In general, ConfigMgr will only retry on transient type
    errors.

I updated to the newest version of iTunes and now I can not open the program. I get the message "The file iTunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes". What now? I'm using Windows Vista.

Had same problem and solved it without having to reinstore any music or movies:
    1. Delete old Library file
    2. Go to the 'Previous iTunes Libraries' folder and copy one of the earlier files - note, they have a date extension, e.g. 'iTunes Library 2011-11-01'.
    3. Paste this file in your iTuners folder and rename file by removing the date extension -  'iTunes Library'
You should have all your music and paylists in tact, unless it was a really old previous file.

I've downloaded iOS 8.0.1 but not installed it, what now?

    Try a reset.
Reset: Hold down the Sleep/Wake and Home button together. The screen will go blank but don't let go until the Apple logo appears (no data will be lost)
If that doesn't work, install iOS 8.0.1 then update to 8.0.2

  • Software Install Failures - Error 1605

I have been trying to install a .msi and I have been getting many failures...the latest error being 1605.  The permissions on the share and folder are correct as it does install properly on some machines.  I first started with a small test
group and was able to get it to install on the few machines in the group properly.  Then the .msi was updated a couple time so I did a re-deploy each time so these test machines would get the new version.  They seemed to get the new version
properly.  Now I am getting this error 1605 with new machines that I add to the group.  Anyone know how what is happening here?

    Yes.

    Yes.

You can delete it. This is why I suggest individual GPOs for each MSI
package, whether related to another one or standalone. If you put them
all into one GPO, the AAS files will remain in sysvol forever.

  • Files says it was created on a newer version of numbers? What now?

Im trying to open a numbers file.  It was created on my ipad and when I try to open it on my iMac (Lion) it says the file was created on a newer version, so it wont open.  What now? Do I have to upgrade my iWork?

I'm assuming you're using iWork '08. The iOS versions of the iWork apps are only compatible with iWork '09.
You can buy the individual apps on the Mac App Store. It costs less than the retail box & you can buy just what you need. Of course, you can often find the retail box for less on places such as Amazon.com or eBay.
Depending on how often you need to do this, you could save the file as Excel on the iPad & then open it in Numbers '08 on your Mac. Certainly not a process I'd recommend. The odds of the file not looking like you expect are even worse than just opening an iOS version in a Mac version.

    Ask in the kindle forums.
Isn't all your kindle stuff archived by amazon, so that you can't lose it by deleting the app?  In any case, nothing to do with Apple.

Lindat52937257 are you able to register the serial number for the Adobe software title which you purchased?  You can find details on how to register your purchased software at Find your serial number quickly.  If the serial number is not accepted you are welcome to contact our support team directly at Contact Customer Care to verify that the serial number is invalid.
If it is invalid as Ned suggested you will want to work directly with the seller to return the purchase.

    Jerry:
have tried (3 or more times) to do a "clean install" (OS 10.3.9, on a Power PC G3 iMac), and it keeps failing. Errror message:
What do you mean by a clean install? Did you completely erase and reformat the HDD and then attempted to install? If not, what exactly did you do?
Verify/Repair failed with error -9972 (The underlying task reported failure on exit)
This is a directory error which you will get only when you attempt to Repair or Verify disk in Disk Utility. It is not an installation error. The error you get is telling you that the directory is badly messed up. Error -9972 is a serious directory corruption error which may be hardware or software based. As a result Disk Warrior may or may not be able to repair your HDD. In some cases it is the result of a failing or failed internal HDD. See Disk Utility reports "Underlying task reported failure" when repairing a volume.
Rather than put out money to purchase Disk Warrior, which may or may not work for you, first be sure that you have your data backed up. Then reformat and erase the HDD as per directions below:
Warning! This procedure will destroy all data on your Hard Disk Drive. Be sure you have an up-to-date, tested backup of at least your Users folder and any third party applications you do not want to re-install before attempting this procedure.
    • With computer shut down insert install disk in optical drive.
    • Hit Power button and immediately after chime hold down the "C" key.
    • Select language
    • Go to the Installer menu (Panther & earlier) and launch Disk Utility.
    • Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
    • Select Partition tab in main panel. (You are about to create a single partition volume.)
    • Select number of partitions in pull-down menu above Volume diagram.
(Note 1: One partition is normally preferable for an internal HDD.)
    • Type in name in Name field (usually Macintosh HD)
    • Select Volume Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    • Click Partition button at bottom of panel.
    • Select Erase tab
    • Select the sub-volume (indented) under Manufacturer ID (usually Macintosh HD).
    • Check to be sure your Volume Name and Volume Format are correct.
    • Click Erase button
    • Quit Disk Utility.
If you are able to get this far, you may now launch the Installer and proceed with the installation. If you would like step by step directions, please post back and ask.
