I am trying to determine the new project preset for a multi-camera video shot as follows:  3 Canon camcorders,
Main shot is DV (tape) (720x480, 29fps) - ceremony and reception
    b-roll is DVD (mini-disk) (720x480, 29fps) - bride preparations
additional b-roll is AVCHD (1920x1080, 29fps) - groom preparations and misc all day ceremony and reception.
Film is from a wedding, DV contains main footage so I assume it will need to be the base.  I am planning to use the preset for DV-Widescreen.  Is there a better option?  I'm concerned about playback as the three appear to have different PAR.  I'm using Premiere Elements 10 on W8.
Ultimately this will be burned for two formats - one for a DVD that can be watched on a widescreen TV, second for a short clip trailer to go on vimeo.
(And no I won't be doing this again for a wedding that I shoot.)

Please review since I am not sure how you obtained Video 3 tall when you scaled Video 3 with Constrain Proportions in effect.
    Before
    After
It becomes a zoomed in effect to get rid of the black borders. But, there is no tall and thin involved anywhere.
And, after the Scale increase, you can always click on the screen and move the image around a bit
(without overdoing it to get black borders again).

That is great news. Good article. It's about time they
    released an installer
for the api modules. There are too many people out there
    using the old cgi
    installer on IIS.

  • Question about the New ACR Corrections for Tonal Range

I find the new set of controls for tonal range in CS7 to be excellent! However, I am curious about what controls what. Black and Shadows work as I would expect but Highlight and Whites do not, at least in terms of traditional photography.
Highlights and Shadows are grouped together as I would expect, Black and White also. But if we are to continue with that progression, White should control the clipping point and Highlights the values a 2 stops or so above middle gray. I would expect Highlights to be similar to Brightness in CS5 except better behaved. It's reversed. Highlights =Recovery in CS5
It's confusing so I am suggesting that White control clipping and Highlight the upper values.

Thank you Patti for your response.
I think we are coming to this from different perspectives. Being so close to development of the current upgrade, I appreciate your insights as to how these controls work. I, on the other hand, am coming from long experience as a photographer and printer, exceeding 50 years at this point. So I have some legacy points of view, which is why I posted.
I spent this evening looking more closely. Here is a summary.
I messed with an excellent example for looking at this question, and I found something interesting. You can fix an image which already has clipping far easier with Highlights, but you cannot force an image with white values well below clipping into clipping using Highlights. The reverse is true with White. So, to fix a white clip, use Highlights, to force a white clip, use White.
Blacks and Shadows are different. You can both force and fix a Black clip with Black, but Shadows, while possible, has much less range. So Shadows are kind of vernier on Blacks. This is different than  Whites.
I was basing my OP on only fixing clipping points, that is, bringing an image out of clipping, but not forcing into clipping.
So, indeed, what you and Jeff point out is closer to correct than my initial assertions. Yours are based on a broader range controls than possible in analog days. In naming these controls, one winds up with a foot in both the digital side and the old analog side, which gave rise to the names and the meanings.
So thanks to both you and Jeff for taking this up. It forced me into looking more closely at my conclusions, and while they weren't wrong outright, they were inadequate to the present state of the technology. Sometimes, experience can actually get in the way!

  • Is it possible to create a new preset for Export/Quicktime Conversion ?

    Hi,
I was wondering if there is a way to make a new export preset for the Export with Quicktime Conversion, in FCE HD 3.5
I am working on preparing a file for YouTube, and finding that some of the video effects render differently when exported, so I am having to render a couple of tests, but with YouTube's new 640x360 16:9 format, there is no easy way to do this other than checking the settings at each export. If one could make a new preset, it would be much easier. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    t

    thankyousir.
I think that Apple could add this, easily, as a feature to what, essentially, is QT Pro, and its embedded brother in FCE. Apple could also release a tiny update for QT including the new YouTube format... I haven't checked if iMovie knows about this new resolution, though it does upload directly to the tube itself.
    Thanks for your time,
    T

  • Help With ACR Presets

Hi! I am trying to use some new ACR presets I purchased. These are the first presets I've ever used. I am working on a new Macbook Pro, and have loaded the .xmp files to library/application support/adobe/camera raw/settings. They are now showing up in ACR, but when I try to use them, I get this message "Unable to load the raw conversion settings.  The raw conversion settings file is invalid." Any help??

I bought them from LilyBlue. I thought it would save a ton of time from having to open in Photoshop. I have CS5. Here's the specifications from the purchase.
WHAT VERSION OF PHOTOSHOP DO I NEED FOR LILYBLUE ACTIONS? FOR LILYBLUE RAW PRESETS?
most lilyblue actions have been developed for cs and above. lilyblue raw presets have been developed for acr (adobe camera raw) and adobe lightroom. both versions are included in your purchase. they work on both pc and mac.

  • Camera Raw brightness and contrast preset for art capture?

I'm capturing oil paintings for reproduction with a D3x tethered to Lightroom 3.  I'm converting though in camera raw.  My camera profile is created using Color Checker Passport software/target which uses a DNG file.  Given that, the profile is build without brightness or contrast adjustments.  My question is, for accurate color, tone and exposure capture should the default ACR presets for brightness and contrast be reset to 0?
    Thanks!

Or use the Zero'd setting on import to get no initial settings. However, I thing you'll find doing your own is better.

  • Frame presets for lightroom

    hi!
i have a couple of photos i want to print in square format. somehow the format seems to g obetter with frames.
does anyone of you know if there are frame presets for lightroom available?
i am looking for polaroid frames, negative frames etc. all this retro stuff.
    help ver muc appreachiated.
    thanks
    jens

    thanks for the answer.
    didnt think of hat.
so i just would need to get some high res frame images and convert them to .png with a transparent middle.
i can understand that lightroom doesnt support this as it is not a professional feature but it still would be nice.
i want to print lots of square format polaroid photos but printing just square format without any frame doesnt really do the trick.
thanks for your help. it woud have been nice to have function within to be able to vary frame size but i guess i should be happy that there is a way without leaving lightroom.
it is still in the morning and i am not 100% getting it though. would the framesize be affected by the resolution of the image or would it scale relatively always having the same size but varying in resolution and being interpolated?
    thanks

In fact, it may not even be right for teh same 30D under different conditions.<br /><br />To illustrate this, today I photographed the same colour chequer twice and ran the script on both files. Under the studio fluorescents, with a very different illumination level, etc, etc - but the same camera within about three minutes, the same lights, the same colour chequer, and came up with:<br /><br /><TABLE BORDER=1><br /><B><br /><TR><br />  <TD ALIGN="CENTER">Item</TD><br />  <TD ALIGN="CENTER">Photo 1</TD><br />  <TD ALIGN="CENTER">Photo 2</TD><br /></TR><br /></B><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Colour Temp</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">5500</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">5150</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Tint</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">16</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">21</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Exposure</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">0.6</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">0.7</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Red Hue</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">1</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">2</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Red Saturation</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">22</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">22</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Green Hue</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">24</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">28</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Green Saturation</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">-2</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">10</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Blue Hue</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">-6</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">-5</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Blue Saturation</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">8</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">-9</TD></TR><br /></TABLE><br /><br />So, this would be telling you that<br /><br />- most things want more red saturation<br><br />- my so-called 6500 K illumination is good in red but off in green<BR><br />- things are never the same twice<br /><br />So while it's interesting to calibrate, if you look too closely you'll  end up wishing you'd never asked. Again, YMMV.<br /><br />Damian<br /><br />PS Not really sure why U2U formatting leaves so much space above my tables. I thought I was being soooo clever, too.
