New ACR RC released... Looking forward to seeing new features in LR

Adobe just announced ACR 8.5 RC: Camera Raw 8.5 RC and DNG Converter 8.5 RC Now Available
Some very useful new features are included along with the usual support for new camera models, such as the ability to modify gradients with a new brush tool and being able to display a mask overlay for gradients... Nice! Looking forward to seeing LR 5.5 (or perhaps even 6?). No news on a release candidate for LR; perhaps there won't be one as per 5.4.

I note this paragraph heading in the notes for the release's new features:
"Camera Raw 8.5 introduces the following new features for Photoshop CC customers"
Could this mean that although the Beta update is stated to be for both CS6 and CC that the new features (outside the camera additions) would not be implemented with a CS6 install?

I am getting old and looking forward to use I Pad as a Phone if possible through WIFI! I this possible? The screen is to small for me! If possible, with new I Watch taking calls, other uses through I Pad!

Like I wrote on title, I am getting old and it is not easy to see E-mails, news etc. on a I phone! New I phone will not help me for the size.
If possible, everything without calls, I would like to use I Pad as direct unit, and for calls through I Pad over WIFI all calls. If a call as Skype, I would like

I found on a side that there is a product for people for better hearing, which can be put into the ears, using WIFI with I Phone.

LR beta released - new features for ACR 7

I was just reading about the LR beta for version 4: http://www.dpreview.com/articles/7481161037/lightroom-4-public-beta-whats-new
Although I'm not a LR user, I was excited to see the new editing features, as they will be essentially the same as the next version of ACR that will be part of PS CS6 (all guesswork on my part of course, but as Adobe has always done this previoulsy I don't think it's much of a leap of faith to make). A few features and changes that stood out for me:
They've re-vamped the basic tools, and have a new Process Version 2012;
Localised adjustments now allow you to adjust white balance and noise reduction;
Curves tool allows you to work on individual RGB channels.
This looks set to be a major upgrade IMHO.

I've been testing new features for a while
I'm quite satisfied with a new automatic recovery procedure. Just that ... it will probably raise new posts about mismatching between camera profiles and in-camera jpegs, because when a photo has blown parts, recovery kicks in automatically. Also, in some (rare) cases I would just want to have it off ... so maybe having a whites slider with 'auto' check box or something similar would be a better solution ... Anyway, finally I can say that dealing with highlights is now even better than in Canon cameras / software, which have similar solution for at least 5 years ...
Since R and B channel, that can be blown by WB, are now also recovered, resulting hue of blown parts is now different than with PV2003/2010. If G and B are blown, resulting hue is around 200 deg (instead 180 previously), which looks more natural for parts of blown sky. If R and G are blown, resulting hue is around 40-50 (instead 60 previously), which is ok for blown areas around sun in sunset photos etc but ... in some rare cases there can be blown foliage colors and it doesn't look particularly good when blown green turns light brown ... So a slider to deal with hue in blown parts for brush tool would be fine somewhere in the future, because painting that areas with some color doesn't produce desired result ...
Getting rid of defaults from the past (brightness +50, contrast +25, blacks 5,. medium-contrast curve) is also nice, as it didn't make any sense with camera profiles
I'm also glad that clarity is now usable for me, so I don't have to apply wide radius USM in PS anymore ... The same with highlight & shadows tool, that is now implemented here ... etc ...

General Comment - Looking forward to the new CC Sync

I just read the blog announcing the pre-release of the revised CC sync utility and am looking forward to it... especially after what happened today with my SkyDrive account.
This morning I began working on a Word 2013 document, autosaving every 10 minutes and randomly manually saving as well with a few keystrokes... and some 6 hours later the screen flickered, SkyDrive refreshed or something along that line, and all of the work I performed today disappeared and was not recoverable.
The beta CC Sync that was released last year regularily created duplicate copies of files on my local drive and on the Adobe Cloud. At that time, I was somewhat annoyed by the redundancy, but after today, hope that feature will remain.
After my loss today, I would much rather set aside a few moments to manually control the deletion of redundant files than dedicate an additional six hours to re-writing and re-editing everything that was lost in some upload mishap.

I am sure most ALL the paying Creative Cloud subscribing customers are looking forward to actually using the advertised features that they have been paying for but have not been available for use. Maybe the "Coming Soon" has finally arrived months later and the silence will be broken. Rejoice CC users your payments were not in vain, you will soon be able to use the advertised features. Let's just hope the wait was worth it and the same issues that plague CC in general that are rampant for CC users as seen on the forum here don't creep into these features with there own reoccurring issues. One would think given the delay Adobe would hopefully get it right and it wont be yet another public beta that gets pulled as before.

I'm an architect looking forward to purchasing a new Mac. Which model do you recommend and why?

I'm an architecture student in my last semester, looking forward to buying a desktop Mac (for current and future use as a professional).
Sadly, for us architects we are limited with some mayor Architecture Programs such as 3Ds Max & Revit (both of which I use frecuently and have to use in a PC )
I have tried runing them in Parallels (in my MacBook Pro), but the result is slow and sluggish... so I plan on purchasing a new desktop computer as I believe these have more capacity to run this programs.
I would like to avoid using Boot Camp (hate having to restart the computer frequently) so if a Mac with be it Parallels/VMWare Fusion/CrossOver can do the job EFFICENTLY I would be happy.
So, which Mac model do you recommend for this case?
I'm undecided and would like some advice from you guys.
I'm not so limited on budget, but of course low cost would be appreciated.
If you could give some specific specs as RAM, Processor model, etc. that would help me more.
Im guessing the Power Mac is the best one...but just checking other opinions and answers.

Why not if you are going to run Windows pick up a PC with what you need?
The new mac pro 2013 won't be out for couple months and figure more time for software, even Fusion etc to catch up.
A VM is never going to be the same as running directly on the hardware natively.
The new Mac Pro though should be able to handle what you throw at it but even support for Windows could take time.
And looking at a new Mac operating system 10.9 Maverick. Windows 8.1 in same time frame.
If you do use a VM, install Windows natively to begin with and then attach the VM to point to it. There are times you need or want to run or apply updates natively.
The Mac has never had support for multiple high end graphic cards, no support for SLI and CrossFire-X, no 8-pin power connectors, if your software needs.

I am a Brand Loyal BB'r having had Storm 1, Storm 2, Torch 1 and Torch 2, I love the Z10 and I am looking forward to Z10 Updates.
Yes all phones from all brands have their quirks, i like the Top BB handsets, as i do not see many people with them, and do not want to be in the Iphone/Android club, so have stayed with BB.
I am sure that when the updates come through it will be even better.
Even Microsoft releases under developed OS and relies on Bug reports to further develop it.
I know it feels like we should be further on with the BB software at this point, but if RIM are listening then they could develop this into a great platform.
My most annoying bug is that facebook does not update, sometimes it has the latest news feed from hours, days ago, and not up to date.
So hanging on in there...here!

Fiscal date DD-MON and year end looking forward

Trying to figure out the best way to look forward to the new year and back to the old year when comparing sysdate to a table column fiscal that is formatted DD-MON. The process works perfectly during the year, since is uses current year when comparing data. But at the end of the year, we do not see anything past 12/31 or before 1/1 in a new year. Any ideas? I was thinking of declaring a couple of values and based on sysdate Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec to add 1 year to Fiscal months Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr so they appear as the next year and vice versa for the first months of a new year, subtract one year from the fiscals to indicate previous year. Has anyone worked on something like this in the past?

It's good to read Antoniad's post. It reassures me that I can use my new iPad as an international communication device which is the reason I purchased the thing. However, I called Verizon today (my provider of cellular data) who told me that I can't just pop in a SIM card as you suggested. He also said that he was from the "Pre-Pay" division of Verizon and he was certain that I couldn't do what I planned to do. I was extremely disappointed as I had called Apple prior to buying the iPad and I read the algorhythm on the website for choosing an iPad before purchasing. Those sources were quite specific and the information seemed clear. I would be able to use my iPad to communicate through cellular connections while traveling on the road, literally, abroad. I was told that I could pop in a data card wherever I was, just as you indicated in your message above, and voila I was good to go. The Verizon rep definitively rained on that parade, but said that I might be able to do this if I have a "Post-Pay" account, a different area of Verizon. I haven't had the chance to talk to this division yet, so I looked to Apple's Support for answers. Maybe I will find out that I can use my iPad as an international communication device while traveling on the road afterall, however, it appears I may need a different type of account (Post-Pay), something I was never warned about. Can I switch to this kind of account? I don't know. I have to find out. If you have any information about this issue, it would be good to share since I strongly suspect there are others who bought the iPad for the same purpose that I have.

New Feature I want to see in iOS 7

A new feature I want to see in iOS 7 is the Forgot Passcode? feature. For example: If you forgot your normal passcode you use to sign in to your device, you can tap that button* and you will be prompted to sign in with your Apple ID. Once you do that, you will be asked to enter a new passcode.
This will also work for your Resrictions Passcode. If you forget it, you can tap that button and you will be prompted to sign in with your Apple ID. Once you do that, you will be prompted to answer one of your security questions.
If you forget all of your answers, you can tap the Forgot Answers? button. Once you do that, you will need to go to Apple's Support Page, select your device, then click "Forgot Security Answers". You will then select "Talk with Apple Support Now". You will be asked to enter a 10 digit Inquiry Number on the chat room. It should look like this:

Enter the enquiry number what you see on your device. You will then be issued a Master Key. A Master Key is a 6 digit number what you need to use to access your restrictions. It should look like this:

Recommendation for new features in next Sun Studio releases

I have started using the Sun Studio Express recently and as a feedback to your opening to receive proposals to new features in the next releases of the Sun Studio collection I would want to point some aspects of interest to the programmers in writing good software for embedded systems and not only.
First of all, with regards to the subject of great interest to me in this moment, multicore/multiprocessor parallel programming, I would appreciate the following :
- if the compiler would be extended with new directives to allow the programmer to measure the load of each core and/or processor that is available to him.
- if the compiler would be extended with directives to allow the programmer to get the core ID on which a specific section of code is executed. As en example consider o multithreaded application and in the associated function for each thread read the core ID and function of this value perform specific actions.
- if the compiler would be extended with directives to allow the programmer to get the ID of the processor in the system - supposing a specific system has many multicore processors. (I don't know if this is possible).
- if the compiler would be extended with directives to allow the programmer to specify the core and/or processor on which it wants to be executed a specific process,thread,function,(maybe instruction).
With these macros I think a lot of things can be exercised, one that I think in this moment is the posibility for the programmer to implement his own algorithm of load balancing for the cores and processors of his system.
Another point I would recommend would be that the watch window in the Sun Studio IDE to permit the selection of the format in which the data to be displayed.As an example if I have a U32 variable to be able to select in the watch window the integer ,hexadecimal or binary format in which I would want to be displayed.
Another useful thins that I sought at other IDEs would be a popup window or something similar to select how to see the source code: as a .c file , as an assembler code , or as a mixture of C and assemble.

These are OS functions, not compiler's. Solaris has a wide selection of ways and tools to assign processes and threads to cpus; processor_bind(2) is a function you can call and pbind(1M) is a tool you can use on a running app. There are more, just google for it.

New REACh Release - new features and ramp up

thanks for rising this questions here since this thread/forum is a good way to discuss product requirements in a broader community so that we can consider meanings/ideas from a broader group of stakeholders. And i think that your points require a broader discussion in order to find the right answer at the end. Let me therefore comment as follows on your remarks hoping that others will join this discussion:
1. Legal entitiy specific uses: It is clear that uses might be different across legal entities and registrations of each legal entities might refer to different uses. Nevertheless the idea of SAP REACH Compliance is to collect uses centrally and to let the registrant decide to pick up those uses for the registration which seems to be relevant for the Legal entitiy he or she is responsible for. The REACH coverage check we provide in our solution refers to coverage of endpoints - not to coverage of uses which is at the end as said a decision made by the registrant based on a complete inventory of known uses. Therefore we didn´t saw the need to maintain the relationship of use and legal entity in SAP REACH Compliance so far but before considering this for the product roadmap I would like to get opinions from other companies as well since this would be a major investment/enhancement of the solution. So anyone else reading this poste pleas feel free to comment here - highly appreciated.
2. Exposure scenarios in SAP REACH Compliance: First of all it is important to understand what SAP REACH Compliance is and what is not. The main objectiv of our solution is to fill white gaps and giving support to areas which are not covered by other applications whether they come from ECHA (like IUCLID5) or from industry organizations like CEFIC (REACHsief). To make it more concrete: IUCLID5 was designed for the authorities to receive technical registration dossier to ease correctness check and dossier evaluation. But IUCLID5 does not give management support to those who has to gather data and ellaborate dossiers. That is what SAP´s solution does complementary to IUCLID5. The same shall apply for Exposure scenarios, Chemical Saftey Assessessments and Chemical Safety Reports. ECHA has announced to provide a CSA/CSR tool - so it makes no sense to to this in SAP but to use our application complimentary to that compared to IUCLID5. And Exporsure scenarios? The issue here is that not all guidance documents are released or even published or finalized. So we would shoot here on a moving target which makes no sense. But beside of that there are already scientific tools in place (like ECETOC TRA) that are specialized in calculation of exposures (scenarios) independent of REACH and in most cases already used in tox departments and which compliments therefore our solution as well. Is it really useful that a business software company provides scientific tools like that or isn´t it better to build our solution complimentary to those? Consequence: REACh guidance documents propose mass communication on use descritpor model with many customers and suppliers. This is what we provide in our solution based on beneficial integration into SAP ERP with all its business partner contact data and sales and purchasing related information like purchase info records. But mass mailings based on "descriptor models for exposure scenario" are unlikely to happen and most likely not to be manageable. With regards to ES I see more a case to case communication for unusual uses or with key customers only which is more document driven than structured like the use descriptor model. And that is what you can do with SAP REACH Compliance - assigning documents describing an ES to uses and sending this to business partners. Remains the question whether it is useful at all to maintain ES in SAP (except from assigning document based ES to uses). The point is that ES are work center specific but not susbtance specific. So it might make sense to maintain ES in SAP EH&S component for industry health & safety (IHS) in order to become aware of own Exposure scenarios. But at the end you will define ES that are as much as possible generic covering as many uses as possible and providing this via a document asking for approval by your business partners. And run calculations and risk assessemtns a said in scientific tools from niche vendors specialising in toxicological applications.
Gladly feedback / comments from the community whether this is a correct perception.

Sorry for the confusion!
I'll clear it up right now - I'm currently running 10.7.2 - please disregard SL 10.6.8, that was from the past. I updated to 10.7.3, the new checkmark appeared. I noticed a few other stability issues in 10.7.3, so returned to 10.7.2. As for Mountain Lion - I saw a friend's Mac running ML (I assume he had a Dev account), and noticed the new checkmark as well.

See the difference? My question is, I don't want the new checkmark in 10.7.3. I think, personally, it's hideous and very iOS-like. Is there a way I can "hack" a resource file, or copy over a file from 10.7.2 into 10.7.3 to bring back the original checkmark used in 10.7.2 and all prior versions of OSX? I'm not sure, but it seems like some kind of font is used for the checkmark, but I'm not sure. I'm still a bit new to OSX.
If anyone knows, or has any idea, that would be much appreciated! Again, I know it's a bit nitpicky

Legato Storage Manager 통합
8.0.4는 Legato의 Storage Manager가 통합 컴포넌트로 제공됩니다. Legato
Storage Manager는 테이프 저장 매체 관리용 유틸리티로서 이제 Oracle8에서
이를 활용할 수 있습니다. 8.0.3에서는 미디어 관리 레이어(MML:Multimedia
Management Layer)를 제공하지 않았으며, 데이타를 테이프에 백업받기 위해서는
써드파티의 MML을 구매해야 합니다.
8.0.4에서 제공되는 Legato MML은 최대 4개의 테이프 드라이버에 동시 백업이
가능한 Limited Version입니다.
JDBC Drivers
8.0.4에는 두개의 JDBC 드라이버가 포함되는데, 이를 통해 자바 프로그래머들은
Oracle7과 Oracle8에 액세스할 수 있습니다. 이중 하나는 JDBC/OCI 드라이버라고
불리우며 클라이언트/서버 자바 애플리케이션이나 자바 기반 미들티어를 개발하는
개발자들을 타겟으로 합니다. 이 드라이버는 JDBC invocations 을 Oracle Call
Interface [OCI]용 call로 바꿔주어 SQL*Net이나 Net8으로 보내 오라클 데이타
베이스를 액세스하게 합니다.
또 하나는 Thin JDBC driver라고 하는 것으로 자바 애플릿과 자바 애플리케이션
개발자들을 위한 것입니다. 이 드라이버는 자바로 코딩되어 있어 완벽하게 JDBC
표준을 따르고 있습니다. Thin JDBC driver는 대략 150K 의 크기에 (압축되지

Advanced Queuing 개선
8.0.4의 Enterprise Edition은 AQ기능이 보강되었습니다. 즉, remote queuing과
de-queuing, 그리고 OCI interface 등이 추가되었고, 큐의 통계를 제공하며
Oracle Enterprise Manager와 통합되었습니다.
이제 메시지가 로컬 큐로 부터 리모트 큐로 자동 전달되고, 따라서 분산
애플리케이션의 개발과 운영이 한층 용이해졌습니다.
API는 8.0.3에서 PL/SQL API만 제공되던 것이 이제 OCI 인터페이스까지 제공됨에
따라 AQ call 실행이 개선되고, AQ 기능을 활용하는 Pro*C애플리케이션 개발이
한층 용이해졌습니다.
8.0.4에서 제공되는 큐의 통계값은 평균 큐의 길이, 대기중인 메시지의 수, 시간
초과된 메시지의 수 등을 포함하며 테이블로 유지되어 SQL문으로 조회가 가능
합니다.
큐와 관련한 관리작업을 단순화할 수 있도록 OEM이 큐를 사용하는 사용자와
오퍼레이션을 관리합니다. 큐를 생성하고, 큐를 시작하거나 정지시키는 작업, 또는
큐의 사용자를 늘리는 등의 태스크를 이제 OEM을 통해 가능합니다.
Parallel DML Operations 관련 제한 완화
Oracle8 Release 8.0.4 Enterprise Edition은 parallel DML
(Insert/Update/Delete) operations에서 비롯되는 제한 사항을 더욱 완화시켜
줍니다. 8.0.3에서는 하나의 트랜잭션에서 하나의 병렬 DML 오퍼레이션만이 가능
하였으나 8.0.4에서는 복수 개가 허용됩니다.
단 한가지 제약은, 만일 어떤 트랜잭션내에서 테이블을 병렬로 수정하는 DML
오퍼레이션이 실행되면 그 트랜잭션내에서는 더 이상 그 테이블에 대해 조회
하거나 DML을 하지 못한다는 것입니다. (다른 트랜잭션으로 처리해야 함)
National Character Support 개선
Release 8.0.4는 Korean NCHAR character set과 European sort for the
UTF8 character data를 지원합니다.
또한 Tablespace Point in Time Recovery (PITR) 자동화가 개선되었다고
합니다. 본사는 비록 이 기능이 개선되었다고 해도 수행시키는데 필요한 단계
(step) 중 몇 가지는 아주 "critical"하다고 하여 필히 Oracle Worldwide
Support를 contact 하라고 조언합니다.
Oracle Parallel Server Diagnostics 개선
8.0.4는 Oracle Parallel Server diagnostics도 개선하였습니다. Fixed global
views (GV$views) 상에서의 성능이 개선되었으며, 새로 추가된V$ view 를 통해
DLM (distributed lock manager) lock을 볼 수 있습니다.
Oracle Enterprise Manager 개선
Oracle Enterprise Manager는 Release 1.5가 Release 8.0.4와 함께 사용됩니다.
릴리즈1.5에서는 Backup Manager component 가 개선되어stored Recovery
Manager scripts를 지원합니다. 즉, 이들 스크립트를 OEM에서 편집, 관리 가능
합니다. 또한 "report wizard"가 추가되어 Recovery Manager report commands
를 위저드의 순서대로 생성가능합니다.
OEM 1.5의 schema manager 역시 오브젝트를 지원하도록 개선되었습니다. DBA는
스키마 매니저를 이용하여 객체 타입과 객체 테이블을 생성, 드롭, 관리할 수
있습니다. 스키마 매니저는 이외에도 AQ기능도 관리할 수 있게 되었습니다.
사용자들은 스키마 매니저 인터페이스를 통해 큐에 주어지는 오퍼레이션을 관리
가능합니다.
Net8 제한 완화
Net8 Release 8.0.4 역시 제한이 완화되었고, 보다 손쉬운 관리를 위해 기능이
추가되었습니다. 일례로Net8이 이제는 DCE를 지원합니다. (8.0.3에서는 지원 안함)
Net Assistant는 리스너의 컨피규레이션을 할 수 있도록 개선되었고, 마침내
커넥션 풀링과 멀티플렉싱을 동시에 "enable"할 수 있게 되었습니다.
Migration 과 Interoperability
Oracle8 Release 8.0.4 는 마이그레이션 유틸리티를 이용 기존의 Oracle7
(Release 7.1, 7.2, or 7.3) 데이타베이스를 쉽게 마이그레이션 할 수 있습니다.
마이그레이션 유틸리티는 데이타 딕셔너리를 재구축해주고, 콘트롤 화일, 로그
화일 및 데이타 블록을 바꿔줍니다.
Oracle8 Release 8.0.3 데이타베이스는 8.0.4를 인스톨하는 것으로 업그레이드가
끝납니다.
