New ads / Ad choices

My idea is, get rid of the new advertisement feature which has been put in and appears at the top of the screen when you're typing in chat with someoneie:ADVERTISEMENT HEREPerson you're typing to info hereChat log here The ad up top is HUGELY distracting.  I don't mind ads on the contact list or on the status updates page, but when it's where I'm typing to someone its just unbearable.  This just started today for me and quite honestly it's making me want to switch to another provider for chat like things. If there was an option to choose where you saw ads that would be acceptable as well, but right now this new thing with the ad popping up up top when I'm typing to someone is horrendous.

These new stupid ads are actual a contridiction of their privacy terms, it states in them that there is an OPTION to turn off targetted ads, NOT, even doing it through the webpage, it still does not disable them, as these targetted adverts are MAINLY 3d party and rarely anything to do with Microsoft software and hardware,that means Microsoft is in breach of ITS OWN AGREEMENT with users. Section 5.1 to be exact as follows;
5. YOUR ADVERTISING CHOICES 5.1 Third Party Advertisements
Skype websites and some Skype software clients enable third-party advertisements provided by Microsoft Advertising. In order to provide ads of greater interest to you, these ads may be targeted based on non-personally identifiable Skype profile information (including profile information from linked Microsoft accounts), such as age, gender, country of residence, and language preference, as well as other information Microsoft Advertising collects outside the Skype software client. For instance, Microsoft Advertising may utilize the same browser cookies set by Microsoft websites to enhance targeting within the Skype software client.
To learn more about how Microsoft Advertising collects and uses information to target ads on Skype and other properties, including how it uses information collected from Skype, such as age and gender and other information collected as part of delivering ads to or on behalf of Skype to target ads on other properties, please see the Microsoft Advertising Privacy Statement
Except for the modern Skype client running on Windows 8, you may opt-out of Microsoft targeted ads in any Skype software client that enables targeted ads by visiting the privacy menu in the Skype software client toolbar. If you opt-out, you will still receive advertisements based on your country of residence, language preference, and IP address location, but other targeting information will not be used. For the modern Skype client running on Windows 8, you may opt-out of receiving targeted ads from Microsoft Advertising through your browser by visiting http://choice.live.com/advertisementchoice, or the NAI or DAA sites described below. For more information about how Microsoft Advertising collects and uses information, please see the Microsoft Advertising Privacy Supplement.
In some instances, Microsoft Advertising may facilitate the placement of advertisements in Skype software client by other online advertising networks. In some cases, these third parties may also place cookies on your computer and may collect information about your online activities across websites or online services. These companies currently include, but are not limited to: 24/7 Real Media, aCerno,Inc, AdBlade, AdConion, AdFusion, Advertising.com, AppNexus, Bane Media, Brand.net, CasaleMedia, Collective Media, Fox Interactive, Interclick, Millennial, ROI Media, SpecificMedia, Tribal Fusion, ValueClick, Yahoo!, YuMe and Zumobi. If you have opted-out of targeted ads in the Skype client as outlined above, Skype will not pass any profile information to such advertising providers with the ad request. However, because these third parties may place cookies on your computer that facilitate their own targeting, the Skype opt-out mechanism described above will not necessarily prevent ad targeting by these companies. These companies may offer you a way to opt-out of ad targeting based on their cookies. You may find more information by clicking on the company names above and following the links to the Web sites of each company. Many of them are also members of the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) or the Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA), which each provide a simple way to opt-out of ad targeting from participating companies.

  • Opening a new project: no choice possible DV - HDV

    Hi all,
recently got a problem when trying to open a new project. The pop-up menu allows DV only, the second choice is no longer available. It presumably happened when I deleted all projects I have done in AVCHD in the meanwhile. My video format is m2ts (Panasonic HDC-SD100). My PC hardware: Intel dual-core 2.8 GHz, 3.5 GB RAM, MSI Nvidia GeForce N9600GT 1GB DDR3 running under Windows XP 3rd ed. and Premiere CS4.
    Thanks for any help.
    Arno

Looks like Harm got the points, and well-deserved ones, I might add.
He's made me a deal, that if he gets the "lunch" at the Adobe cafeteria, he'll pick me up in Arizona to be his "guest," on his way from Holland to San Jose! I'll host him as my guest, but he'll have to find a way to get to Phoenix.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS do I get any points for a "nice" reply, even if it didn't really help you, like Harm's reply did???????

  • With new computer, no choice on toolbar to save password or sign in names at certain sites

The choice to save a password and sign in at sites is not available in the tool bar since I got a new computer...I don't know how to add this and I really would like to have it.

It is already that way, (tools, Options, remember passwords for site, is checked) but not working. In my old computer there was a pop-up or icon from Firefox asking me if I wanted the safe the sign-in passwords, but that is no longer there.

  • New ads appear in youtube and amazon. Adblock Plus doesnt work

In the last week ads appear when I search on Amazon and YouTube. Usually Adblock Plus has worked but this time they are not blocked.
I can't tell who is doing this and I haven't installed any new software recently so I have no idea why this is happening. If I search for Lego, I get Lego offers from other sites. However, on youtube the ads can be more unsuitable.
Please help as some of the images are very unsuitable for my 5 year old.
    Thanks,
    Peter

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer that you may not be aware of. First check your home page settings to make sure nothing was appended (if there is a | followed by another link, that tells Firefox to open another tab with that link):
    * Tools (or [[Image: New Fx Menu]]) > Options > General
Also check your add-ons for any suspicious extensions:
    * Tools (or [[Image: New Fx Menu]]) > Add-ons > Extensions
Check your list of install programs in Windows - Control Panel > Programs and Features. Usually malware comes bundled with other applications, so if you sort by date and see several applications installed at the same day, it may be easier to find suspicious applications that way. Note that some applications bundle potentially unwanted programs in updates as well (such as some P2P applications).
You can also try the Reset Firefox feature which can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information. Note: After resetting Firefox, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the [[Reset Firefox - easily fix most problems]] article for more information.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

  • New MB Pro Choice

I'm upgrading from a 3-year-old PowerMac G4, 1.5Ghz, so I should see a performance boost almost no matter which one I pick, but I'm particularly interested in the LED backlighting on the new models. I wonder if it saves on battery time?
Anyhow, looking at my choices for 15" laptop it's basically 2.2Ghz vs. 2.4Ghz, 160GB vs. 120GB, and 128MB video RAM vs. 256MB video RAM. Everything else looks the same -- correct?
Given that my primary use is photography (Photoshop CS3 and Aperture), my questions are:
    1. Is 2GB RAM enough? It seems to be on my G5 tower.
    2. Will I see any difference between the two video cards?
If it's just texture RAM, probably not, but if there
are more pipelines in the 256MB version or something,
Aperture will likely be sensitive to it. I sure got
bitten hard with my G5 tower's video card!
    3. Should I opt for the 7200RPM drive? Is it going to
make a significant performance difference vs. the extra
    power drainage?
    4. The 0.2Ghz CPU difference seems completely unimportant,
but if there's extra cache on the 2.4Ghz model or some
other enhancement, it could make a real difference.
    Thanks much,
    ALF

Anthony, I'm not sure I know the answers to your questions. I am moving from an IBM Thinkpad to Macbook Pro. I currently have a G5 20" in my home office and love it.
I configured a 15" Macbook Pro with 4GB of RAM and a 160GB 7,200 RPM drive. My reasoning is that notebook upgrades after the fact are notorioiusly expensive and involve some waste. In the case of RAM, the Pro is delivered with 2 x 1GB. There are 2 slots (total) so if you decide you need more RAM later, what do you do with the original RAM. I guess you can just dispose of them and buy aftermarket at a lower price, but I' not sure how much savings there would be.
As for the HDD speeds. I recently replaced a 5,400rpm drive with a 4,200rpm unit in my Thinkpad. I think it is a bit slower, but I don't really notice it. I haven't tested the battery life change (if any).
In my new macbook Pro, I am looking to maximize system performance (for video and picture editing - amateur). I'd rather spend a bit more up front to now I've got the quickest Apple has to offer at this point. Did I buy too much? Maybe, but this is a 4 - 5 year notebook, so now matter how I configure it, it will be considered slow in 2 years!
Now, I just have to wait the 4 - 6 weeks for the system to show up (blame it on the 160GB 7,200 RPM drive).

  • Item list in New Gallery missing choices

I am using jDeveloper 10.1.3.3 and when I go to New Project, and select Web Tier in New Gallery, I only see a limited number of option. How do I get all of them? I want Servlet and JSR 168 Portlet. Did I turn something off to make these go away?

    What is the JDeveloper edition?
The JDeveloper Java edition does not have the J2EE options.
Use the Studio or J2EE edition.

  • New external drive choices -- what's best for Aperture?

Hi.  Hardware, I'm sorry to say, generally makes my head hurt.
Today Apple's delayed Thunderbolt-to-FW800 adapter made it appearance in Apple Stores.
Purchasers of the new MacBook Pro with Retina Display (rMBP) now have a nearly full set of options for using external drives with Aperture.  I had been using a stable of FW800 drives (with my MBP 5,5).  I'm looking for recommendations on what to upgrade to.
(Aside: I've been too busy to post a comment recommending the rMPB.  It's my main Aperture machine (I use Aperture every day, but work in two different locations) -- I'm _very_ happy with it.  Highly recommended.  My machine is 16 GB RAM and 500 GB SSD.  But there's still this ports problem ... .)
    The options I know of:
    - use the new adapter and use the old FW drives.  These can be daisy-chained, as before.  Afaik, the total throughput is limited by what TBolt allows (which may be more than enough).
    - move drives to USB3 enclosures.  I did this as a stop-gap measure while waiting for the adapters.  I got my enclosures from OWC.  The drives are not daisy-chainable.  The rMBA has two USB3 ports.
    - buy eSATA hubs and use the eSATA ports on the drives.  This one just became available.  Expensive, imho.  Not sure how the Mac will handle it (I always have Originals referenced to external drives; I sometimes have Libraries on external drives).
    - move drives to TBolt enclosures.  These are slowly coming on the market.  They are very expensive (imho).
    - replace the drives with TBolt drives.  Also very expensive.
    - replace the drives with USB3 drives
I'm looking for a reasonable middle-term (3-5 years) solution.  Fwiw, I'm not convinced that external drive throughput is even an issue with running Aperture.  It seem to run well on my rMBA even when a large library is connected via USB2.  (I assume Aperture is good at taking advantage of the 16 MB RAM and the SSD "scratch drive".)  I need to have one USB2 port, and one TBolt port, available at all times (various peripherals; the TBolt is for external monitors).
    Thanks!

Good stuff.  Thanks.  Agree in principle re: "TBolt for displays; USB3 for storage".
I did get a USB 3 hub.  (Amazon link.  There is a 7-port hub as well.)  Highly recommended (at least for rMBP users).  This works well with how I use Aperture: I have several external drives with mostly Referenced Originals and some Libraries.  Since I rarely use more than one of these at a time, it doesn't matter that the hub throughput is limited to a single USB 3 channel.  The USB 3 hub, for me, functions as a quasi-data-server for Aperture, and takes up only one of the two USB 3 ports on the rMBP.  (Fwiw, with the rMBA I don't think there's much reason for storing Referenced Originals on a fast drive; because of the efficiency of the way Aperture caches, USB 2 may be fast enough.  I haven't measured this yet.)
I mentioned eSATA only because almost all my external drives came with eSATA ports and cables.  I have never used eSATA.  At this point, I don't plan to.
I have moved a few drives into USB 3 enclosures (purchased from OWC).  With the USB 3 hub, and the newly-available Apple TBolt-FW800 adapter (which supports daisy-chained FW devices), I am no longer in any practical way limited by the four ports on the rMBP (2x TBolt, 2x USB 3).  Whew.
I backup my system drive wirelessly to a Time Capsule every night (by design, the machine doesn't have access to the TC during the day when I'm working), and use SuperDuper to backup all Libraries and Referenced Originals to specific sparse bundles kept on leap-frogging external drives, with one always off-site.  At this point I make no practical distinction between FW800 and USB 3 drives for back-up, as they are all fast enough and the back-ups run unattended.  (But USB 3 seems to be much faster.)

  • I want to have the jingle in the new ads as my ringtone?

How do I do this or is it availinle to buy ? Thanks

Personally, I'd keep it simple and keep the same one.

  • No Picture on New ads :[

    Hi All,
The audio is fine but no pic.
Using Panther 10.3.9 and QT 6.5.2 with my 500mhz Cube, 1.2g ram, 120g HD, Geforce2 MX
Cube   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Apples since IIe

I use QuickTime 7 on my 10.3.9 partition without many
issues. Some content needs a faster processor and I
avoid opening these links using that drive.
I also have both QuickTime 6 Pro and 7 (basic) on
that drive and both versions of Pro running on my Mac
    mini.
The "re-installers" were released because some third
party software initially had conflicts. Most of them
have updated their software and 7.0.4 is compatible.
Version 7 is a major rewrite of QuickTime. Many older
features (Pro) didn't get ported over which is
another reason for "reverting" to older versions.
    Simple answer to your question:
If the file is encoded using H.264 the only way to
view it is to install QuickTime 7.
Thanks for the clarification. So, with only a 500mhz CPU in my Cube, will I really benefit from the upgrade to QT 7.0.4. I hardly ever use QT. I've been contemplating going to Tiger, as well, but, thought I might wait until I can upgrade the CPU.

  • New Mobile Phone Choice

Hello All,could use the forums advice,if I buy a secondhand iphone unlocked could  I use it with my current BT Simcard? I have need of a larger screen but do not actually use all that often,or failing that option would I be better off taking out a monthly contract? I guess what I need to know is weather the system will support a smartphone.
I have got to admit I like the Bt help available as im not very techy minded.
    Any advice welcomed.

    I'm the person PM'd
A BT SIM card will work in everything except an iPhone 5 - these use a different type of SIM card.
An iPhone 5 does however have excellent voice recognition built in and I often send texts etc by voice alone.
A touch screen takes a little getting used to however.
I don't know what the BT Sim deal covers, but data use can be quite high on an iPhone when you are out and about as it is busy locating you, checking mail looking for updates etc. My wife has a 1GB allowance and doesn't exceed that.
The iPhone 5 has a noticeably better and bigger screen.
All my family have iPhones which means we chat talk share videos at no cost as it all goes through Apple's own system.
Two of my daughters have cheap deals with Giff Gaff and seem happy.
Using wifi of course it all costs nothing.
The Apps store is great. The phone is excellent. I might be able to help more if you tell me what deal the BT Sim offers
I think on the whole you are probably better off on a contract and not using a BT SIM card.
People have mixed views about 3
But a little hunt produced this deal for an iPhone 4
    Ultimate Internet 100.
    All-you-can-eat data
    100 minutes
    5,000 texts
    24 months
    £21
    a month.

  • FF34. How to stop new search starting when changing Search Enigine choice?

I switch a lot between different search enigines, such as IMDB, Mirrium-webster, Wikipedia, YACY ans so on, and with the prior versions when I chose a new Search Engine from the dropdown list it didn't instantly start a new search. I don;t want a new search commenced until I either press Enter or hit the Search Icon. How do I stop FF from doing this? The reason I don;t like FF doing this is because I don;t want the already searched for terms to be automatically used in a new search engine choice. THAT's the reason I choose to use another search engine previously.

You can revert to the old Search Bar scheme like this.
Open up '''about:config''' ''(typed in the Location Bar)''
Right-click and toggle this preference to '''''false'''''
    '''browser.search.showOneOffButtons'''
    Then restart Firefox.

  • Clicks from new Google ads not showing in AdSense. Anyone resolved this?

My old ads show impressions/clicks fine. But clicks/impressions on new ads on my blog are not registering. This may have coincided with the MobileMe upgrade, but not 100% sure. Anyone having this problem?

Thanks, BGreg.  I tried that, and disabled the only thing that looked like it might be relevant (something called Ghostery), but it didn't make a difference.
For some reason, I can't find the window with the 3 things the Genius Bar guy disabled to make AdSense appear.  Since he did it for me instead of walking me through it, I have no idea where to find it.
Maybe it wasn't an add-on.  I realize I'm not very helpful, but I appreciate your attempt.
    Thanks.

  • How do I get my iTunes library from my old mac to my new one?

How do I get my iTunes and for that matter iPhoto libraries from my old mac 15" Tetherball iMac running OS 10.4.11 iTunes ver. 9.0.2 to my new iMac running 10.6.2 but also using iTunes ver. 9.0.2? I used the migration assistant, and a firewire cable, to move my "Music" folder to the new mac, but it insisted that I create a new user on the new mac for the data, rather than giving me a choice to move it into my user account. Also, based on some info from The Missing Manual and the Take Control books I created a separate user that is not an Administrator on the computer to be my primary login. When I simply tried to copy the music folder - iTunes failed to open. And because I am not an admin I can't access the new folder to copy it while I am in my non-admin user on the new computer. I have looked through as many of the posts as I could wade through and didn't see anything quite as simple as I think my problem is. Thanks, in advance.

Did you use Migration Assistant to move all you contents or did you create a new account on the new Mac before transferring?
I had a similar problem when I got my MBP as I created an account on the new Mac at the store to confirm that the MBP was ok. Mistake. I got how home and had loads of issues so I ended up reinstalling the system on the new MBP and using Migration Assistant to move ALL my stuff from the old to the new.
Another choice is to clone your old Mac to an ext HD then swap that cloned HD with the HD in your new Mac.
Regardless of which way you go make sure you de-authorize your old Mac before getting rid of it.

  • How can I sync my iPhone 4 with a new Laptop

    Hi Everyone,
I have a new Windows laptop and an iPhone 4 (iOS 7.04) and I would like to back it up to my new laptop. The iPhone 4 was sync'd to an older Windows laptop that isn't working anymore, so I can't transfer anything from the old laptop to the new.
Is there a way I can just make my new laptop my new computer of choice for sync'ing my iPhone?
    Thanks,
