New Airport Express is not discoverable by Airport Utility

Hello,
After searching the forums for a while and not finding any posts that really address the issue I'm having, I've finally decided to create my own post.
I received a brand new Airport Express from my girlfriend for Christmas. I've finally gotten some time to set it up, but I seem to be having some issues with Airport Utility even seeing it. I haven't even been able to set it up because I can't access it. Airport Utility simply says that it cannot find any Apple Wireless devices and continuously asks me to rescan.
The first time I plugged in the Airport Express, it flashed the green light once like it's supposed to, then the light turned to solid amber for a couple of minutes, then started blinking. It still does this even after I do a factory reset.
Very rarely Airport Utility will see it, but it takes a lot of rescans before it finally does. When Airport Utility does finally see it after several rescans, I enter manual setup, enter my information and click Update. After I click update, I'm no longer able to connect to the Airport Express at all until I do a factory reset. Then it takes a lot of patience and several more rescans until I can finally connect again.
I first placed it directly below my desk, but have since tried many other locations throughout the house to see if it was location that was the problem. That is not the issue.
The intention is to have it join my current wireless network, so I do not have an ethernet cable plugged into it. I've tried plugging one in, but with the exact same results (Airport Utility still can't see it).
Any ideas as to what may be the problem?
Thank you!

If AirPort Utility is still having trouble "seeing" the Airport Express (AX), temporarily connect an ethernet cable from your computer to the AX. You may need to move the AX close to your computer for this and restart both your computer and the AX.
Once you have the AX configured, you can move it back to the desired location.
So I am able to connect to the Airport Express via an ethernet cable and configure it like that, but I am still unable to connect to it wirelessly. I wonder if there could be something wrong with the unit itself? After configuring it, I can't even see it in the Airport menu on the menu bar on top.
Any other suggestions?

  • Airport express does not appear in Airport Utility

    Hello,
I am having problems connecting my Airport Express to my network.
My configuration is all Apple. I am attempting to set up Airtunes. I have an Airport Extreme (software version 5.7) plus Airport Express. The Airport Extreme is hardwired to my Power Mac G5 (10.5.6) via ethernet. Wireless security is WEP 128 bit.
The Airport Express appears to establish a connection with no problems. The indicator light on the Express goes through normal start up and then a steady solid green.
Airport Utility shows the Airport Extreme but the Airport Express is not listed.
Any suggestions on how to make the connection are appreciated!
    Thank you!

When having difficulties accessing the AirPort thru the AirPort Utility, try the following, in order checking accessibility with the AirPort Utility after each step:
o Check the local connection. If you are trying to access the AirPort wirelessly, make sure that you are connected to its wireless network before running the AirPort Utility to administer it. If you are still unable to access it with the utility, temporarily connect your computer directly using an Ethernet cable to one of the base station's LAN ports.
o Power cycle the base station. Remove the power adapter's plug from the power outlet, and then, wait 15 seconds before plugging it back in.
o Perform a "factory default" (AirPort Express) or "hard" (AirPort Extreme / Time Capsule) reset.

  • My Airport Express is not detected in airport radar on iBook

    Hi,
I am hoping that someone can help me with this. I am at loss as to what to do next!
My Airport Express has been working fine since I returned from holiday a week ago. However, I tried to select my airport express network from my airport radar on my iBook last night and it did not detect it. It detects other networks but not mine!
My network is not protected (secure) yet as I could not install the airport setup utility that came with the Aiport Express Base Station as you need Mac OS X 10.3 or later and I only have 10.2.8. I am waiting to upgrade to Leopard in October (in the UK) so I can install the airport setup utility. Until now, my airport has been working fine. I initially set it up by copying and pasting all the settings from the ethernet tab from (system preferences-network) into the airport tab and it worked fine.
I know that the airport express is working fine as it is permanently green adn I can connect to the internet via ethernet if I plug the ethernet cable into the iBook.
I thought last night that someone had used my unsecure connection and created a secure network behind a password for themselves. However, this cannot be the case as I have PDA and it detected my connection from Airport Express (I recognised its name) and it connected immediately.
Why will the radar on my iBook not detect my connection from Airprt Express? Please help!

Please refer to the information already posted above:
If you see A1084 or A1088 there, your older Express is not supported by the newer version of AirPort Utility that you have.
If you have another Mac running Leopard or Snow Leopard, or a PC, then you could use that computer to administer the older Express and it will work on the network along with the AirPort Extreme.
If the Mac running Leopard or Snow Leopard or PC does not "see" the A1084 Express, you will need to "hard reset" the Express by holding in the reset button for 10 seconds and waiting a full minute for the Express to restart. Then, reconfigure the Express again.

  • Airport Express does not respond to Airport Utility

I use 2 Airport Express units as printer servers.  I recently changed routers, and both started flashing yellow.  I reset both and reconfigured using airport admin.  The first is now working(I can print wirelessly from my mac laptop) . For the second I got a message after the reconfiguration that Airport admin had lost contact with it.  I cannot bring it up using reset or ethernet.  It flashes yellow soon after each reset.
While I was joining the forum and typing this it came back onto the screen as unconfigured.  I  reconfigured and get the same message:Airpport Utility was unable to find your wireless device after restarting. The device has been successfully updated, but there is a problem rejoining the wirless network.  The AE is flashing yellow again. Any suggestions would be welcome.

The device has been successfully updated, but there is a problem rejoining the wirless network.
This is a famous "error" message that in effect says that the Express stored the settings that it received, but these may not have been the settings that it needed to join the network successfully.
Or, there were some other settings that were still stored on the Express, and the new settings are in conflict with the old settings.
My suggestion would be to first perform a Factory Default Reset on the Express and then try to reconfigure it again.
To perform a Factory Defaut Reset......
Power off the AirPort Express for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button on the Express and then keep holding it in for an additional 10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the Express back in to power
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
    Now try the configuration again.

  • Airport express extender not connecting to airport extreme

    Mac OSX 10.9.5
    Airport Extreme version 7.6.4
    Airport Express version 7.6.4
I've done a hard reset of both Extreme and Express, set up Extreme and cannot set up Express as an extender.  Airport utility recognizes the Express, but shows an amber light.  Amber light also flashing on the airport Express, which is within 2 feet of the Extreme.
"Other Wi-Fi Devices" says no remote airport  base satin is discovered.   Same situation even when connecting the Express to the Extreme via an ethernet

Temporarily, please power off the AirPort Express and set it aside.
Restart the AirPort Extreme and check to make sure that it is performing correctly.  There should be a green light on the AirPort Extreme and devices that are in the same room or adjacent rooms should be able to connect to the Internet.
If you see a slow, flashing amber light on the AirPort Extreme.....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Uility
Click on the picture of the AirPort Extreme
Look for the setting for Status
Click on the small amber dot there and report back with the exact message that you see

  • My new airport express does not connect my printer to my computer?  My old airport did! then I updated to OS 10.9.2.  How do I get it connected?

My new airport express does not connect my printer to my computer.  The old airport did.  I recently updated to OS 10.9.2.  I have since bought a new
HP 6700 all in one wireless printer,  got the latest Comcast router.  None of which connect to my computer wirelessly.  Which do I throw away the printer, router, or Mac?  Help

    Contact HP for support.
Explain that you are using a Mac, anticipate the inevitable groan, and wait patiently for their resident Mac expert to return from vacation.
Until then download and install its driver here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=5058338&cc=us&dlc=en &lc=en
Otherwise return the printer and purchase one from a company that visibly supports OS X. HP isn't on that list.

  • I have a new internet service provider and router and need to re-connect to my airport express. However, Airport Express is not showing up. Also, when I launch Airport utility (new and 5.6), it shows no available devices. What am I doing wrong?

    iMac (2008), 10.7.5
    Airport Express (2008)
    Comcast wifi router

The AirPort Express must be reset back to factory default settings first, and then reconfigured again.
    To reset the AirPort......
    Power off the device
    Wait a minute
Hold in the reset button first, then continue to hold the reset button in for an additional 10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the AirPort back into power
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow a full minute for the AirPort to restart
Try using AirPort Utility 5.6 now to see if it will "see" the AirPort so that it can be set up again.
If you are using AirPort Utility 6.x, you must first click on the Other WiFi Devices tab, then click on AirPort Express to start the setup wizard

  • Airport Express will not talk to my router

I have 2 airport express stations that are 6.3 and they have always been able to connect to my qwest wireless router no prob. I've recently updated to Leopard and was surprised to see the new airport utility instead of the airport admin and airport setup tools. I like the new utility and interface as it seems less confusing than the old but now I'm having issues.
    1. I can get the new utility to recognize my airport express ONLY when I do a hard reset to the airport express.
    2. As I've done many times in the past, I go through the following setup protocol to join my current wireless network. I simply want to join my current network so I can talk to my stereo and printer wirelessly.
    3. When I finish the setup and hit update, the airport utility updates the express successfully and then attempts to restart the express in order to join my network. This is where the problem lies.
*Here's the error message I get:*
AirPort Utility was unable to find your Apple wireless device after restarting.
The settings for this Apple wireless device have been successfully updated, but there was a problem re-joining the wireless network or finding the Apple wireless device. You may need to select your network from the AirPort menu and try again.
Now, I've tried repeating this process 10 times with both airport express stations and the same result happens? Remember, the only way for the utility to find the express is to hard reset the express. What gives? I bought both of these express stations over a year ago and they've been working fine til now. Because they are older and updated to 6.3, I shouldn't update them to the 802.11n7.3.1 update or should I? Is there something different about this new airport utility in Leopard that is causing the problem?
Like I said, I've done this exact same thing many times and its pretty straight forward but I'm stumped.
    Anyone? Thanks in advance

I've got the solution! It took me some fair hours, though...
It seems the Airport Express can not handle the WEP-encryption properly, nor the 64 or the 128 bit versions. Here's how to work around it:
    1) change your routers encryption to WPA2 with passkey (WPA-2-PSK). You may use the 10-digit code supplied with most routers or any of your own choice.
    2) Change all wireless cards in your network to WPA2-PSK. It can take some time to figure it all out, but in the end you'll fix it. I had to download a new driver for my D-Link card DWL-G650 for instance.
    3) Do the usual config thing with the Airport Express. Choose to connect to an existing network, apply the 10-digit passkey (be sure to choose the WPA2-PSK-option in the drop down-menu).
    4) Off you go! Itunes will find the remote speakers, green lights all over and everybody turns happy...

  • Hi, The Airport Express does not work with iOS 7.0.4, I appreciate your help to resolve this event. Thank you,

Hi, The Airport Express does not work with iOS 7.0.4, I appreciate your help to resolve this event. Thank you,

Please locate the model number of the AirPort Express and post back that information.
The model number is located on the side of the AirPort Express. It begins with an "A" followed by four numbers.
We are not sure what you mean by "does not work".  Does this mean that the AirPort Express worked at one time and has just recently stopped working?
Have you installed a newer operating system on your iOS device recently?
Or, is this a new AirPort Express that you are trying to configure for the first time?
If yes, what service will the AirPort Express perform on your network?
Please remember that we cannot see your network, so we only know as much about your problem as you can tell us.

  • How do I set up my Airport Express and not interrupt my TIme Capsule

I have ATT UVerse recently installed and have my Time Capsule Router Behind their installed router. I recently purchased Airport Extreme and want to install it as well so I can connect an older Version of a Sony PS3 which doesn't have bluetooth capability via rj45 since the time capsule is no where close to my PS3. Is there a way to install this Airport Express and not mess up the settings of the Time Capsule?

Hello hbwilli. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Yes. You will want to configure the new 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) as a ProxySTA. In this configuration, the AXn will join the wireless network created by the Time Capsule and share Internet access through its Ethernet port to the PS3.
To activate ProxySTA, you must set up the Express to join a wireless network and then enable the Allow Ethernet Clients setting; both settings are located in the Wireless tab of AirPort Utility. The feature should work with any wireless network: a, b, g, or n; and 5GHz or 2.4GHz. (Note that the Express, which ships with firmware 7.3, must also be updated to firmware 7.3.1 for this feature to appear.)

  • I have the airport express as router can I buy the new airport express and use my old airport to extend my net?

I have the airport express as router can I buy the new airport express and extend my net?

Things can get confusing pretty quickly since there are 3 different versions of the AirPort Express.
If by "old", you mean you have Model No A1084 or A1088 AirPort Express (look at the label on the side of the device for the Model No), it cannot be used with the "Extend a wireless network" feature of other newer Apple routers.
If your AirPort Extreme is "square" shaped with rounded corners, then the "old" AirPort Express will not work with your AirPort Extreme using the "Extend a wireless network" settings.
You could use a "previous version" AirPort Express, Model No A1264 to "Extend", or the "new" AirPort Express, Model No A1392, for that purpose.
If your AirPort Extreme is a simultaneous dual band product, then the "new" Express would be able to "extend" both bands.  The "previous" AirPort Express (Model A1264) would be able to extend only one band, since it is not a dual band device.

  • AirPort Express will not extend Wireless Network

Hello.  My airport express will not extend my wireless network.  It was green for about the first 4 hours and then I've had a flashing yellow light since that time.  I've reset it a bunch of times and even have the AE in the same room as my AP Extreme.  I complete the setup and then it continues to flash yellow.  Can ayone give me a hand?

In the cases where the AirPort base stations would be interconnected by Ethernet you want to configure then for a roaming network, NOT an extended network. Apple uses the term "extended" when the base stations use wireless connection. Regardless of naming convention the end results is pretty much the same.
The link I provided should provide you with the necessary steps to set this type of network up.
If you need additional help, please start a new post as the solution for you will be different than the OPs. Thx!

  • My airport express is not connecting with my airport extreme base station. They are probably six years old. My IP address on my express shows 0.0.0.0

My Airport extreme and my airport express are not connecting together. I get an error message saying that my airport express software is not compatible with my Airport extreme and I have use them together for the past five or six years. It says I may need to change my IP address on my computer or something like that but I don't know what to do. the IP address on my express shows 0.0.0.0. Should everything be on the same IP address? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

  • I just purchased a wireless connection for my Tivo but the signal strength from my airport express does not allow the tivo to load data. How do I increase the signal strength?

I just purchased a wireless N network adapter for the TIVO premier and am trying to use my apple airport express to connectand it  is in the another room. I am only receiving one  bar of strength on my network adapter. How can I raise the signal strength of my airport express.

There are several things that might help, not all of which would be feasible depending on your situation:  (1) Move the TiVo unit and AirPort Express closer together.  (2) Use another AirPort Express to "extend" the network of the first AirPort Express.  Put the second AirPort Express half way between the first AirPort Express and the TiVo unit.  (3) In the general case, Power-Line equipment might allow the TiVo unit to get a good signal, but it's likely that the Ethernet port of your AirPort Express is probably connected to your broadband modem, so that solution wouldn't work for you.  (4) Changing the band or channel that the AirPort Express is using might help.  If the TiVo unit is connection on the 5 GHz band, try one of the three-digit channels, which are allowed to use higher power.
