New airport extreme card is not detected

I brought a new airport extreme card and installed as instructed but my computer is not detecting it at all. Im new to using a Mac, so please can someone let me know what I'm doing wrong? If you need more info please ask.
emac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

this is definately the correct card...
How do you know? To identify which eMac you have, you can use KB 86325, eMac: How to locate the serial number and identify your model. Then you will be able to determine if you need the AirPort card or AirPort Extreme card.
What kind of keyboard are you using?
The command key probably has an Apple symbol.
Here are some other symbols for those keys:

  • New airport extreme card in 2007 mac pro?

I have a 2.66 mac pro which i purchased in september 2007. I talked to one lady at the mac store in Roseville, MN and she said I needed the old airport card, which she told me is model # MA688Z/A. is this true? or can i use the newer airport extreme card? the old card is hard to find and if i can use the newer card, model # M8881LL/A, that would make my life so much easier. Please advise.

I've talked to a few more people from different mac stores, and they said that the first person i talked to basically didn't know what they were talking about. they said that the new mac pro and old mac pro both take the same airport card, model MB363Z/A. sorry for all the run-around. can anybody confirm or dis-confirm this info?

  • Airport extreme card is not recognize.  what can I do?

I install the airport extreme card about 3-4 months ago, and didn't have any trouble at all. I used to move the computer to many places and never had a problem.
This Saturday, I took my PB to a friend’s house and when I turned it on, the icon didn't show at the top bar. I looked in the preferences and the airport connection option can't be selected (is in grey) and it says that any hardware was found. I check the elements of the computer (in "About this mac") and no hardware was found.
I unplugged the energy, took out the battery and removed the card, and plug it again. I have to say that removing it and put it back again was easier this time than the first time, it moved smoothly). Nothing happened. Still won’t recognize it.
What can I do? I bought the card in a tech ware house in Barcelona, FNAC who is a legal representative of the mac products.

    Hi!
    Sounds as though maybe your AE wireless card may have failed;
and if you've tried more than a few times to re-seat the card into
the slot and had no results, you may see about trying the card
in another compatible computer to see if just the card is bad.
    You may be able to swap out the part to restore wireless access;
but I am not sure of any situation that may limit your recourse
through the reseller of the card you now have. They may not take
it back, in other words. But to find out if the issue is your AE Card
or some other potential issue is an important pursuit. So, if you
can, perhaps a reseller of new parts can let you see if a new card
will resolve this issue by trying a new card and see if it shows in
the System Profiler; and if access to the internet is available nearby,
to also see if it connects readily.
    Good luck and happy computing!

I've installed an airport extreme card on my Mac Pro, but every time, I have to go to "network" and connect manually... any ideas? It's my only network and the "remember networks" is checked.

  • Airport Extreme Card does not fit into my laptop.

I recently purchased an Apple iBook G4 and a separate Airport Extreme Card. Maybe I'm just Mac-illiterate, but I can't figure out how to install the card. I've studied the directions in the manual and online but the diagrams don't seem to correspond with my laptop. For example, my laptop does not have the grey wire or metal bracket that are shown in Figure 6 at http://www.info.apple.com/usen/cip/pdf/ibkg4/ibg4-apc-cip1.pdf. In fact, that whole area in my laptop looks very different from the way it looks in the image. The card doesn't fit/snap in anywhere under the keyboard.
Am I totally missing something? Is the card supposed to be installed elsewhere? Did I perhaps purchase the wrong card?
Any support you can offer will be greatly appreciated. Hopefully my question isn't too stupid!

Current generation iBook G4's have a built in Airport Extreme interface - they don't make use of a user-installable Airport Extreme card.
Does your Mac have an Airport menu item (the fan-shaped icon near the right side of the MacOS menu bar)? If so, it already has an installed Airport interface.

  • Airport Extreme card does not see any networks...help!

I have a home network that is working fine - 2 linksys routers with WDS set up... it all works great - an Ibook g4 running 10.3 and has an Airport Extreme card connects flawlessly everyday. As does an old G4 powerbook with an old airport card.
however, I have this dual g4 with 10.4.3 running, and a recently-installed airport extreme card.
When I turn airport "on" it never sees our network. And it doesn't see my neighbors' networks, either, which are also always visible.
I can, howevr, connect via ethernet to the router that is somewhat nearby. that networking is fine...I can get on wired, but not wirelessly.
I've installed the 2005-1 update, and have run Software Update as well to see if there are any other patches/updates necesary. so as far as I can tell, I am up to date.
    system profiler says:

    Wireless Card Locale: USA
Wireless Card Firmware Version: 404.2 (3.90.34.0.p16)
Current Wireless Network: wireless network not available
and in the extensions section for the airport, it says:

I am at a loss. Is there anything else I can do before writing off the card as a bad card - or perhaps the logic board is faulty?
I hope there is a simple solution to this. I appreciate your expert help.

Go back and recheck the Airport Extreme card installation. Make sure you plugged the connector for the internal Airport antenna into its socket on the Airport Extreme card itself - and make sure the plug is fully seated into its socket (none of the metal sleave should be showing).

  • Airport Extreme Card (will not automatically connect to home network)

Running OSX (10.4.7) on a G5 2.0 DualCore. I just had an Airport Extreme Card installed by Apple a week ago. Everything was working fine with WiFi ( I use a Lynksys Router. But oddly now when I cold boot up, the Airport Extreme will not automatically connect to my home network. The little Airport icon on the upper right is always greyed out ( even though clicking on the icon... says that Airport is "On" ). So I now have to manually select my home network everytime I boot up. The first week or so though, I didn't have to do this...it just automtically connected to my home network. I made no changes to the router settings, nor the Network prefs.

I have been able to get my home network running with simultaneous access to the internet with the MacMini and the PB G4 via a WL router (Netgear WGR614v4 with four ethernet ports).
    This was the process:
1a) Turned off airport on both computers.
1b) Turned off both compters and
1c) disconnected the router from the cable modem.
    a) Disconnected ethernet cable from WL router to Macmini.
2b) Powered down the router for 10 seconds.
3a) Keeping both computers unpowered, repowered router and pressed the reset button (behind an unmarked tiny hole in the back of the router) then re-connected it to cable modem. Waited 30 - 40 seconds until internet service lights flickered green.
3b) Reconnected ethernet cable to MacMini and turned on power for MacMini. No Airport running. With administrator privilege I configured in Syst. Prefs. "Sharing" folder Internet access using "Built in Ethernet" port for computers running "Airport".
    4) Turned Airport network on in MacMini and started browser.
    Result: Internet connection established.
5a) Powered up PB G4 and then turned Airport on.
5b) In Syst. Prefs. in "Sharing" folder turned Internet Sharing off. But set "Share your connection from Airport" to computers using: Airport with check-mark. (No Built-in Ethernet and no Built-in FireWire!)
5c)Started browser. Result: Internet connection established.
6a) In the Finder window of both computers I clicked on "Go" in toolbar and looked for the name of the other computer, which were listed as alias besides the "Library" and "Servers" aliases. Clicking on the computer alias brought up the 'Networked Globe' and a control button "Connect".
6b) Clicking on "Connect" brought up the mounted drive of the other computer.
    Result: Wireless network operational.
PS: I don't dare yet using encryption for the airport network. That's for another day.

  • New Airport Extreme Card - Can't Turn Airport On

I just bought an airport extreme card for my G4. I installed it properly, but for some reason I cannot turn Airport on in OS X. The Airport Indicator shows up in the Menu Bar, and Network in System Preferences recognize the card, but when I click "Turn AirPort On", nothing happens.

The next troubleshooting steps would have us concentrate on the AirPort system configuration files. These files are located in the /Library/Preferences folder on your MBP.
    The specific networking-related files are:
    NetworkInterfaces.plist
    com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    preferences.plist
For troubleshooting purposes, you can delete (or move to another location) each of these individually or the entire folder. OS X will rebuild them with new default copies. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can always moving the originals back.
I would recommend starting with the "preferences.plist" file, and then, the others (or the entire folder) next.

  • My new airport extreme card..(?)

Hey, as I was in the process of moving out, I thought I would get an airport extreme card for my iBook. I did such, and installed it. I am now in an appartment with a 'wi/fi' certified wireless router. My buddy gets wireless in a snap on his Windows Laptop, but I can't seem to connect.
My card is installed and the computer sees it, but all I can manage to get is a computer to computer network!
Can anybody help me set it up for wireless internet so I don't have to connect through the LAN cable when I have an airport card installed?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Happy threading..
    DP

    Hi and Welcome to discussions!
Can your iBook 'see' the wireless network? If not then SSID is switched off at the router, (a good thing to do as it's not broadcasting its existence to all & sundry). Although if you can network the computers that probably isn't the case.
    Some info from the AirPort
    Extreme Card User’s Guide
"To join an AirPort wireless network, choose a network from the AirPort status icon in the menu bar. Enter the password for the network if necessary. If you are joining a closed network, choose Other from the list, and then type the name and password of the network.
Note: To show AirPort status in the menu bar, open System Preferences and click Network. Choose AirPort from the Show pop-up menu, then click AirPort. Select the “Show AirPort status in menu bar” checkbox."
Run Software update first to make sure that you have got the Airport SW.
Have a read through the manual at the above link and see how you get on.
Have you tried the 'Assistant', from Network Prefs? That should walk you through it.
    Good Luck!

  • New Airport Extreme (2014) does not see USB Drive

Just fired up my new 2014 Airport Extreme and attached a Toshiba 3 TB USB Drive. My new (late 2013 iMac) does not see the new drive in Disk Utility.
The Extreme works in all other ways; ie, as a router, as a wireless node.
It came to me formated as a Windows drive, so I attached it directly to my MacBook Pro (which saw the drive) and reformated it as a Mac Drive (Journaled, GUILD). It showed up just fine on the MacBook Pro desktop.
When I reattach it to the Airport Extreme, it still does NOT show up in Disk Utility on the iMac.
    Help Please

When I reattach it to the Airport Extreme, it still does NOT show up in Disk Utility on the iMac.
That drive will not show up in Disk Utility on the Mac.....since the Toshiba hard drive becomes a network drive when it is attached the AirPort Extreme.
Disk Utility will not display a network drive. It will only display drives that are connected directly to your iMac via USB, FireWire, etc.
Check using AirPort Utility to see if the AirPort Exteme recognizes the drive.
Open AirPort Utility, click the AirPort Extreme icon, then click Edit
Click the Disks tab at the top of the next window that appears
The drive will appear here if it is recognized by the AirPort Extreme.
In the example below, my WD Drive is connected to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme.

  • Airport Extreme Card Not Working Properly (Web Browsing Slow)

    Hello people of apple discussions,
I have the original MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.5.7 installed on it. And I have a problem, my airport extreme card is not functioning properly like when I go on the internet, it comes up with the server "www.google.com" cannot be reached or the same with Yahoo! Back when it had 10.4 it was functioning properly with very high speeds. But, all the other PCs in the house gets good internet even my iPhone and the router is functioning properly. It's been like this since for about 6-8 months and i am very upset with my mac!:|So can I have some help or any suggestions!

Have you tried contacting your ISP? Sometimes they can help you optimize your settings. Such as DNS server numbers. I had a simullar problem and found out my DNS settings were wrong.
Do you have other computers that use the wireless single? If not you might look into your router to see if maybe something is wroung with it. You can always go to a wifi hotspot or a friends house and see how the connection is there. If it seems normal then you know it is your ISP or your router. If not then it might be a laptop problem.

  • Power Mac G5 fails to start up with Airport Extreme card in.

    Hello.
I just received a 'new' Airport Extreme card for my Power Mac G5 1.8 (900fsb). I just installed it and it failed to start up with it in. The mac started up but without my Apple LCD and any USB devices. I did a PMU reset on the logic board and took out the Crucial 3rd party 512mb RAM and tried again but it won't start up. When I take the card out it's business as usual.
Is it the card or the mac that's at fault? Has anyone had this problem too?
Your help will be greatly appreciated.

    This problem can happen if:
    - the card has not been fully seated into its socket (doing that can take a firm push) or if you installed the card upside down
    - the card is defective
    - the card socket in the PowerMac G5 has broken or bent contact pins
Check the installation you did with:
    http://www.info.apple.com/usen/cip/pdf/g5/apec_c.pdf
If you are sure the card has been properly installed, you are gong to have to either (a) try a different Airport Extreme card or (b) let an Apple dealer or service center take a look at your PowerMac G5.

  • Apple Store - Selling Airport Extreme Cards for Mac Pro

I would venture to say that most people are not aware that the "standard" Airport Extreme Cards will not work for the Mac Pro, so I felt it important to let it be known.
This past weekend, I purchased a Mac Pro at an Apple Store in Texas. I picked up an Airport Express Card and asked the associate if it was compatible with the new Mac Pro's. He first thought it was already on the base config, which I knew had to be false. He went and looked it up, and sure enough it wasn't included but he did confirm that that Airport Express Card will in fact work with the Mac Pro.
After driving home nearly 2 hours, I pop the case to find out that the Airport slot is by no means the same; it's much smaller.
I see two problems with this:
    1. They should clearly mark on the box that the Airport Express Card is not compatible with the new Mac Pro (it's on the website description).
    2. The Apple Store Staff should be well aware of this change. Especially, since at the time I purchased the Mac Pro, the NEW Airport cards were not even shipping yet.
Just sharing my frustrations and also informing anybody about to head into a store to make a purchase... heads up.
    Thanks for listening,
    Marc

As you've found out they are NOT the same. In actual fact, as Apple classes them as a service centre only installation you won't be able to buy one from an Apple Store without an installation. They won't sell you a standalone part. Other place will however sell them.
The part number you are after, I believe, is MA688ZM/A.
