New App store interface tabs greyed out sometimes..

Since the new app store look came out, often I see the tabs but they are unresponsive and I have to close app store and reopen it to be able to click on Updates for instance. Anyone else see this?

I think that it might be related to DNS and having multiple network connections...
I encountered the problem for the first time yesterday on a new 2013 iMac whilst I was having problems with Xcode not being able to connect to a version control server (which has worked fine until yesterday).
The only things that have changed recently are that I have switched off a local DNS server (using OSX server) and that I enabled wifi to perform an air drop.
Yesterday the suggestion to disable/re-enable wifi didn't solve the problem, and today now that the icons are back working again and switching wifi on/off has no effect.

  • IOS App Store purchase buttons greyed out

So, we have two iphones and two iPads.  Today, I upated one of the iPads to 6.0.1 and now, in the APP STORE, all the purchase buttons are screwed up.  First, they are no longer rectangle - they are square and only showing the first few letters.  Second, they are greyed out - can't depress them.  All my other devices work fine, just this one.  I've tried shutting down all the apps in the task bar and hard resetting the machine.  I also tried logging out of my apple id and re-logging back in.  Nothing works.

I solved it.  I forgot that installing iOS 6.0.1 screws with your settings - randomly on each device - four devices I've installed this on and four different results.  While going through settings, RESTRICTIONS were activated which presents installing apps.  Also, had to relog back into Messages and Facetime.  VERY un-Apple.

  • Mac App Store Mavericks update greyed out

When I try to update to Mavericks in the Mac App Store on a MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2012) running OS X 10.7.5, but the "Install App" button does not appear to do anything, and in the "Purchases" window, the OS X Mavericks button is greyed out.
I have tried restarting, killing the storeagent, deleting the plists, and nothing seems to help.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you!

    Select
    Store ▹ View My Account
from the App Store menu bar, then select View hidden purchases. Stop or resume the download.

  • How do you remove an iMovie update from my app store update tab?

The iMovie 10.0 software update (released Oct 22, 2013) appears in my App Store 'updates' tab but it's not compatible with my 'ol 2008 iMac (it doesn't have the correct graphics card). How do I remove the update? I've turned off "auto-update", relauched the app store application, etc, but to no avail.

Apple has released iMovie 10.0.1 that seems to support older video cards. I got it installed on my mid-2007 iMac

  • How do I turn off pop-up blocker on new iPad if it is "greyed out" in safari settings?

How do I turn off pop-up blocker on new iPad if it is "greyed out" in safari settings?

'''Diego Victor''', this is for Firefox on Android. The Tools->Options is for Firefox on Windows only.
I think the only way still that you can turn of popup blocker on Android version is in '''about:config'''
    Try this.
Type '''about:config''' in the Location (address) bar and filter for '''dom.disable_open_during_load''' and set it to '''false'''.
After you are done you should enable the popup blocker again.

  • No category for Apple's new App Store?

I was hoping to ask a question regarding Apple's new App Store, or make a suggestion in that regard. But there doesn't even appear to be a category about the App Store under the Discussions at all. When will Apple include Discussions on the App Store?

The App Store is listed under Snow Leopard, 10.6.6 http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1432

  • Search purchased apps not installed on my phone through app store update tab

Before my upgrade to iOS 6 I could search purchased apps that are not installed on my phone through the update section. The new App Store doesn't seem to have this function. Am I just missing it? I don't want to have to buy apps I already have and it's a pain to have to scroll through them all to try to find one I'm looking for.

The solution is to purchase a phone from a region where FaceTime is NOT banned. There is no way to have FaceTime on the phone you now have.

  • App Store Tabs greyed out

Since I've updated the MacBook pro 13' late 2011 to Mavericks i can't fully access the Mac App store.
It wil load up but only allow me to use the featured tab, including links to Top Free, Top Paid and Top grossing.
I can alos access the Updates tab but only when going through the Software Update.
This is at work so on a proxyed network, both ports 80 and 443 are open so that shouldn't be a problem.
anyone else having this problem or know how to resolve it?
    Thanks,
    Paul

  • Can only open 4 tabs in window. Then + button doesn't work, and New Tab greyed-out in menu.

Running Firefox 7.0.1 on Mac OS X 10.7.1.
Number of tabs that can be opened in a single window is limited. Can't currently open more than four. Clicking the "+" button to the right of open tabs does nothing, and the "New Tab" option in the file menu is greyed out.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • How do I install a new app from my PC w/out sync'g other apps on my Touch?

Problem: How do I manually control what gets sync'd from PC to iPod Touch?
Bkgrnd: I do NOT autosync becuz I have a lot of music files on the iPod that aren't on this computer and I don't want the music overwritten by the empty PC music library.
Detail: I downloaded an app to iTunes Library on my PC and it shows up on the Apps Tab in the iPod Touch Device Folder. The "Apps" tab screen is divided into 2 areas: on the left is a gray'd out section with the words *"Sync Apps"* at the top along with and an UNCHECKED box. The new app is listed below that with another box that is UNCHECKED. The area to the right shows all the current apps are mail and note apps with data I don't want to lose.
When I click the *"Sync Apps"* I get a warning: *_"+Are u sure you want to sync apps? All existing app and their data on the iPod Touch will be replaced with apps from this iTunes Library."_*+ I'm afraid if I click "Sync Apps" that I'll lose my music. Soooo... how do I control what gets sync'd? Is there a way to back up my music on to this PC just to make sure I won't lose it?

You can, and should, back up your data to your PC.
1)Connect your ipod, select it, and right click. Select Transfer Purchases. This will transfer over any Apps or Music you purchased from the iTunes store.
2)Also, while right clicked, select Back up. You will want this back up when you sync your ipod with your new computer so you can restore from your backup. See [About Backups|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766] to learn what's included in a backup, but note that it does not include the items in step 2. Note: *Any music not purchased from the iTunes store will not be backed up* It is assumed that since you were able to sync and put this on your ipod, it resides on your computer already. Again, check the link above to see what is backed up.
3)To sync, select your device in iTunes. If you want to exclude music from you sync, on the Summary tab check Manually manage music and videos under Options. The go to the Apps tab and select the Apps you want to sync.
If you have never sync'd with this computer before it will warn you that it's going to wipe out your data. That's because an ipod can only be synced to one library. No way around that. It sounds like that's what's happening.
If you have all the iTune store purchases made on your touch transferred to your computer (step 1), your ipod backed up (step 2) and all other data such as music from CD's, photos, etc in your iTunes library you should be fine. It will want to remove your data to sync with this library but you can [restore from the backup|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414] (see link for more info on how) you made in step 2 and then sync your music etc after that. But if this is the last computer you've sync'd with you shouldn't have to do that.
    Hope that helps.

  • App Store update tab error

When I open App Store, and click the Updates tab, I get the following error:
" Certifikatet til denne server er ugyldigt. Du er evt. ved at oprette forbindelse til en server, der foregiver at være “swscan.apple.com”, og det kan bringe dine fortrolige oplysninger i fare. "
*"GOOGLE TRANSLATE": FROM DANISH --> ENGLISH*
The certificate for this server is invalid. You might be. by connecting to a server that is pretending to be "swscan.apple.com" and it could put your confidential information at risk.
    I'm running a Late 2013 MacBook Air 13" 1,3GHz - 2,0GHz Intel Core i5, 4Gb 1600 MHz DDR3, Intel HD 5000, OS X 10.9.4.
I've never encountered this error before, on this machine, and have only started to get this error within the last week.
I did a complete Internet Restore to Mountain Lion (the original OS X on this machine, when purchased), and then did a new update to Mavericks (which have worked without any problems at all, since release), since I felt that the HDD were getting cluttered with unused files /Sh*t that I'd never get around to use.
For the first couple of weeks after the restore, and subsequent update, everything worked fine, until, like I said, a couple of days, to a week, ago, suddenly this error started occurring, so I'm not able to check for updates either to OS X or my apps, for that matter.
Can anyone tell me what's going on here ???
    Thx in advance.. Tonny Bukdahl..

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can read it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • New iphone - restore paused, itunes greyed out

Ok, so my old iphone 5 died today - i backed everything up on to my icloud when plugged in to computer.
went straight to store, got a new phone
stayed in store until apps started downloading, genius said i could leave as everything seemed to be downloading fine.
got home, and they looked like they had paused, Initially I thought it was just because I had lost connection... So i restored everything again and the same thing has happened.
Most of my apps have paused downloading, and most of my itunes songs are greyed out???!!!!
So, I have done the whole on off, hard reset... and settings thing...
log out and back in via 'itunes & App stores' my ID is correct email
BUT when i go to try the same in 'icloud settings' it brings up my old Apple ID email address, and the fields to change your email are blanked out so the old email wont budge!!!!!!?????
everywhere else my details are my new email address -  work fine to download etc.
I have contacted apple support chat people, they took my through support online - outcome 'book a phone call' only slot they have in at 2.15AM!!!!! in 10 days time??!!!!!! I had to drive over an hour to store today, and i wont be doing that again!
Please help! I will be sooooooo grateful!!!

    Thanks very much, that's great!
I wonder why the Restrictions on my old iPhone 4 don't prevent access to iCloud. Mysterious.

  • Trying to install iLife 06 on MacBook Pro. Apps to install are greyed out.

I transferred all my files from a G4 PowerBook 17" to a MacBook Pro 17" just recently and accidentally overwrote the Universal Binary version of iLife that came installed on the MacBook Pro with the PowerPC version of iLife. I called Apple and they said to delete the old apps and then reinstall the new apps from the iLife 06 DVD if I can.
I have the install DVD, but when I go to "Customize" and attempt to install the apps, it greys out the main apps (iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie HD and iDVD).
When I go to "Easy Install" it offers an "upgrade" option. I have since deleted the apps and there is nothing to upgrade.
    Please help me! Thanks!
    MacBook Pro 17   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Open the /Library/Receipts/ folder, move any receipts related to iLife and the iLife applications out of the folder, and try installing iLife again. Regardless of whether or not the installation was successful, move back any receipts which weren't recreated and throw away the ones which were.

  • App Store Needs: tabs, demos, blurbs, screenshot zoom, etc.

In my first hour of looking at the new Mac App Store I can see that it needs the following:
    - Tabbed Browsing
    - Demo Downloads
    - Blurbs in Browsing (all the time or via hover)
    - Wish List
    - Watch List
    - Gift List
    - Screenshot Zoom-in
    - Videos in screenshot area
    - Non-owner reviews (listed below owner reviews)
    - Ability to tell the app store that we own apps already, track for updates
    - Sub-categories (for games esp.)
    - Info feeds from MacUpdate, VersionTracker, and IUseThis with kickbacks to them
    - Coverflow? Swiping?
    - Ownership transfer
    - On Sale badges
As it is, it's kind of bare and when thousands of apps make their way in there, they'll get lost.

I agree with most of the list, however the ownership transfer thing just isn't very likely I fear! This seems to be the way digital downloads have developed - they are a one-owner thing and I think it usually states this in the terms and conditions. It's a sure way for Apple and other digital distributors to make more money too, by eliminating the 2nd-hand software market. I think it's wrong, and as the customer I should always be right, but that seems to be a rare thing nowadays.
The App Store has taken too much of the iPad and iPod technology across to the computer platform IMO. On the computer we don't use touch screens most of the time, so having the large icons which are designed for finger clicking on a touch screen just doesn't work for me, we have a far more precise pointing device in the mouse and trackpad on-screen pointer (and I very much doubt that Apple will be releasing a touch-screen MacBook any time soon).
The problem with non-owner reviews is that it opens up the system to abuse by idiots and people who don't like the software, despite perhaps never even having used it (as I see all too often in the Apple Store reviews). Perhaps only Apple-recognised owners should be allowed to set a star rating.
