New Apple Keyboard and iMAC

Okay, not sure if I am posting in the right place but here goes. Picked up two of the new flat keyboards from the Mac Store. Hooked them up, downloaded the keyboard software, and fully restarted the system. It works great.
My problem is when, during restart, I try to hold down option to switch over into Vista. Simply, nothing happens. The system starts up in MAC OS as if Im not holding down the key at all.
What do I do? Plug in the old keyboard and sell these on Ebay lol?

I had the same thing as you (that my BT mouse & keyboard were working but then after a while they started to act up -mouse freezing on&off, keys sticking-).
In my case the 'before' and 'after' was actually running the setup on the Bootcamp Utility disk that contains all the Bootcamp drivers. There must be a rogue driver on there that messed up my system. I ended up doing a reinstall and only installing the bluetooth drivers (that are also on the same Utlity disk, but in the $WinPEDriver$ folder. This at least worked for me.
However, by doing so I did not get the handy Bootcamp utility in the lower left corner of Windows that allows me to conveniently reboot and switch from Win8 to MacOS. I am trying to figure out if I can install that utility separately without all the drivers being automatically installed as well

  • New Apple Keyboard and iPhoto 08.

It seems that when you install the new Apple Keyboard and download and install the Apple Keyboard update ver 1.1, it breaks iPhoto 08. What I am saying is that it will not let you rename any of your events! I installed it on my MacPro and it happened, then I went to my MacBook and installed the keyboard and the update and the same thing happened!
    Anyone else having this problem?

    The Fix!
Go to the Finder, go to Macintosh HD, go to the folder called Library, go to the folder called Caches, look for a folder called com.apple.ATS usually the first folder, drag it to the trash. The computer will then ask you for your password and then restart your computer and all wii be fixed!

  • Startup keys with new Apple Keyboard and MacBook Pro

Upon powering up my Rev. A MBP, I hold down the OPTION key on the new Apple Keyboard to select my startup disk. Strangely, the startup went straight into the default startup disk that I have chosen previously. I didn't get to selection stage.
I tried with the old/white Apple Keyboard and my MBP keyboard and startup disk selector is A-Okay.
I hooked up the new keyboard to my new Mac mini and did the same thing and no problem.
Haven't tried with the rest of the startup keys like C or X yet with the MBP. Wonder is this a software bug between the MBP and keyboard.
    Anyone with similar experience?

Actually, startup keys sequences do work with the Apple Wireless Keyboard (the old white one). I know because I have been using it that way with my Macs, PPC and Intel ones.
I tried Command-V, Command-S, Option, T, C and Shift on the new keyboard with my Rev. A MBP and it goes go straight into the Apple logo.
Swapped back to the old Apple Keyboard with my MBP and tried the keys above and no problems whatever so.
Hooked up the new Apple Keyboard to my new Mac mini and did the same keys without problems.
So, my conclusion is there something between the new keyboard and Rev. A MBP. Maybe someone with similar setup should try wha I did and see if they face the same issues.

  • New Apple Keyboard and Insert Key

I'm using the new Apple Keyboard (http://www.apple.com/keyboard/) and I'm quite happy with it. The only big disadvantage is the missing Insert-Key, the Apple Keyboard has a function (fn) Key, where the insert-key is normally located. I need the insert-key especially for selecting in midnight commander. What would be the best way to remap the insert-key to the fn-key for console and X-Windows?

Here are some relevant other threads:
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=56619
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=55482
These are just threads I've participated in; I'm sure there are more. The bottom line is: check with showkey (in the Linux console) or xev (in X) to see how the fn key is getting recognized. If it's working just like another key on the keyboard, e.g., like space or shift, then you can remap it the same way you'd remap any key. (The process is different for Linux console than for X.) But most likely it's not working just like another key on the keyboard, in which case it will be difficult/impossible to remap it to insert. However, you could always choose another key, or key combination, to remap to insert. Perhaps even a key combination of the form fn+KEY. The kernel won't recognize fn as a modifier like shift or control, but it should recognize SOME fn+KEY combinations as being SOME keyboard keys. For example, on my keyboard fn+left arrow is recognized as Home. I think that as far as the kernel and all the key-remapping tools can tell, I only pressed Home on my keyboard not any combination including left arrow.

  • New Apple keyboard and the keyboard shortcut tab in prefpane ?

    Hi.
So I bought a new Apple "slim" kayboard, I'm pretty happy with it. The only thing I don't get is that I can't access the "keyboard shortcut" tab in the Keyboard and mouse prefpane.
When I click it, the tab turns grey but I can't enter.
    Is it normal?
ps. of course I didn't the keyboard software update.
    Thanks

That's really strange. Are you sure this has to do with the keyboard? Does it misbehave even after restarting the compter? If you remove the keyboard and plug in your old one instead, does this area of System Preferences work normally again?

  • New Apple keyboards and OS9

I notice that the current Apple keyboards sold by Apple stores say they require OSX 10.2.
Are there particular functions that won't work on OS9, or will the keyboards not function at all.
(I'm using an old 233 Bondi iMac running OS9.2.2 for the kids and the original keyboard is starting to creak.)
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Apparently it was only about the dedicated expose key which obviously won't do what it says in OS9. Information from Apple Store, Birmingham.

  • New Apple Keyboards and G5

I have just purchased one of the new auminium keyboards. The special features ie for Dashboard expose - sound etc. Apple support told me these new features only supported on the new iMacs. This is not stated in apple's marketing material for these keyboards. Is this the case or is it it bug or fix needed. Still a nice keyboard though

Apple support told me these new features only supported on the new iMacs.
What a load of tosh! Strange that you're having problems though - the 'special' buttons are all working fine for me with the 1.1 update..
My problem is that the G5 doesn't always see the new keyboard (or mouse) at startup, & it takes unplugging/re-connecting the usb 2 or 3 times (whilst the G5's powered up & waiting at the login-screen) before the devices are finally recognised by the Mac.
What about you guys on this point?
    Thanks,
    Jason

  • I have working Netgear network. Want to add new Time Capsule and run 2nd network for new apple TV and Imac, and keep the netgear network for my PC and Canon printer.

I have working Netgear N600 dual band router network. The existing network has an XP netbook PC, canon printer, 2 Iphones, Epson Air printer, an Ipad, 3 roku boxes, backup drive. Just bought a new Apple TV box, and time capsule 2T.  I have an IMac on order but don't have it here yet.
My goal is to add new Time Capsule and create 2nd "apple" network for new apple TV, Iphones, Ipad, Epson Air printer and new Imac, and keep the netgear network for my PC, Roku TV boxes, and Canon printer and backup drive.
The Netgear router, the time capsule and new IMac will be on the same desktop, I dont need to backup my netbook PC to time capsule.
    Where do I start?
Which device connects to my modem first, the TC2 or the Netgear?
Is it best wait for the Imac before starting or can the TC2 be set up from my Ipad or PC?
    Thanks.

    It is pretty simple..
Setup the TC in bridge and plug it into the Netgear.. I would leave the netgear as the main router for now, although in the future you can swap things around. The netgear firmware may have issues with bonjour and airplay/airprint?? Does your ipad print ok now?
You can setup the TC using Mac, PC (at least up to win7) or iOS.. they all have airport utility available.
Bridge mode is set differently depending on the version of the utility. This is v5 and how the windows one will look (at least similar to).
    v6 will be as
With the TC in bridge you will still create a wireless network.. and give it a different name from the netgear.. then all the apple devices can connect to it. Use ethernet rather than wireless if the imac is on the desktop with it. Much faster and better for using Time Machine backups.
If you run into any issues.. just post the particular issue. It will take a bit of getting used to, but isn't hard.

  • New Apple keyboard and flash drive

Just brought a new keyboard home, the keys are excellent, been previously using a Macalley Icekey...and will be promptly returning to it. When I plug in my Cruzer Titanium 2.0 thumb drive into it I get an error: USB Low Power Notice, the USB device cannot operate because it needs more power than is available.
Pity, I thought the keyboard supported USB 2.0.

Me too! When I read the specs on the keyboard I was excited, thought perhaps I'd see some increased speed copying files over...not an insufficient power warning. The USB ports on the iMac are all filled and I enjoy the convenience of simply sliding it in the side of the keyboard. The Icekey supports it. Beats me. Great action on the keys though.

  • I purchased a new Apple Keyboard and now the controls for the top row (the f1,f2, f3, etc...) will not function properly.

I cannot use expose, itunes controls, or anything.   When I hit the controls for itunes, it activates either expose or the dashboard or something else.  I can deactivate this in system settings under the keyboard controls, and I can even rebind the keys in there, however there seems to be no way for me to get my audio controls to work.  How do I get skip, play/pause, mute, and volume controls to work again?  I can't find anywhere I can go to bind the f-whatever keys to those functions again.  This is very frustrating as I constantly use these audio controls.

I guess you have been to System Pres -> Keyboard? Use this to see if it changes:

  • Brand new Macbook Pro not pairing with Apple Keyboard and mouse!

Hi all, I have a brand new Macbook Pro and an older wireless Apple Keyboard and Mouse (that were being previously used with my imac G5).
Now I want to use these for this macbook. I am finding that they are being recognised but not pairing up?
Do you need to stop the previous pairing with the imac before they will pair with the Macbook?
Or do I need to update specific software? (I would have thought it has all the necessary updates already installed).
    I am running Snow leopard.
I have brand new batteries in the keyboard and mouse.
I really appreciate any helpful advice. Sorry if the answer is obvious!
    Thanks

Hi there, i had a problem pairing an Apple wireless keyboard with my MacBook pro but managed to solve it.
The default passkey option in Bluetooth setup assistant is 'automatic' which will (if the MacBook can 'see' the keyboard in the first instance) then say something like 'your device may prompt you to enter the following passcode 1234 5678'
Obviously the keyboard doesn't provide any feedback - I went ahead and typed the number and hit the return key a number of times - the MacBook then displayed a 'pairing failed - you may have entered the incorrect passkey' message.
What i was doing wrong was keying only numbers - when i keyed 1234[SPACE]5678 + RETURN pairing worked.
I had thought the 'gap' in the passcode was to make it easier to read, not that it implied a space in the passcode.
    Hope that helps.
    Simon

  • New Apple Keyboard on 24" Imac (intel)

    Dear appler's,
I just got my new apple keyboard (the ultra fin alum one) It's a great keyboard. But I got problems with the installation. The special key's like the media controllers don't work.
I downloaded and installed the software update (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/firmware_hardware/keyboardsoftwareup date11.html)
I have a 24" iMac (the last white one)
My preferences screen still look's the same it's normal?
P.S. Why no software with the keyboard? I had to go and do a search on google to get the software.

    25 views and no reaction.
If you two experience these problems please let me know. Still no reaction from apple.

  • IMac G5 & new apple keyboard - some keys not working

I have an iMac G5 (2GHz, 20 inch), running OS X Tiger (10.4.11) and I recently purchased the new apple keyboard (the wired version without the numpad, to save desk space). I am finding that the function keys at the top don't work - specifically, the keys that control sound. I've googled this, and installed the Keyboard Software Update 1.2 that most people said fixed their problem - but it hasn't fixed mine.
Instead, the f10-f12 keys don't control the sound functions, but the f12 key ejects discs (it sits next to the eject button, so perhaps this is a wiring error?), and the caps lock key does not always work when hitting it - it needs a large amount of pressure. I would think that my keyboard was defective, but I just exchanged it yesterday, and the new one has the same problems. I'm getting close to just giving up and getting a refund.

Hello - thank you for the quick responses! To answer your question, yes, I have repaired my permissions and restarted, to no avail.
I have looked through the keyboard prefs quite a bit, and cannot find anything that allows me to choose where to map the sound keys. I have checked "Use All F1 F2 etc keys as standard function keys". In the small aluminum keyboards, the f keys are dual-function - in this case, the f10-f12 keys also control dashboard, etc, which I have turned off (but I have tested the keys with these options both off & on, with the fn key, without the fn key, etc - tried lots of combinations). I've tried quite a few things to get these keys to work. Honestly, the f1-f4 keys don't seem to work at all either.
I might try and take a video later today to show you what I mean. The caps lock key is the biggest thing that's bothering me - I use it instead of shift to type, and 75% of the type it does not activate when pressed...I would think this was just one bogus keyboard if it weren't for the fact that I already exchanged it once...

just started a new apple tv and also started using an iMac . I have itunes on the iMac but i cant get the apple tv to sync or find any settings to do so ! How can I get the iMac and apple tv to sync the itunes ? i have a internet connection between them , I have signed in to the itunes store on the apple tv and it shows that the apple tv is sharing my library from the IMac , but it wont sync and the apple tv has no content !

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV (with the exception of the Apple TV 1) does not sync, it streams everything from your library on your computer or from the internet.

  • I have a macmini on order, I wonder if I can pair the wireless apple keyboard and magic touchpad without using any other input devices, especially, since everything is brand new and not yet paired.

You may just want to save yourself any possible issues
by just hooking up a wired keyboard and mouse on first
start up.  Any USB keyboard and mouse should work.
There have been many that have had problems on first boot
    using the Bluetooth devices.
