New Apple Universal Dock Have Authenticator Chip?

I recently purchased a Classic. I have considered purchasing the Universal Dock. Will the cables that I received with my old Ipod Photo allow me to watch video when they are connected to the new Universal Dock? Or, will I have to purchase the new AV cables from Apple also? If I have to purchase the new AV cables I will probably purchase another brand of dock or use the dock that I received with my IPOD photo.

I recently bought the Dynex iPod Universal Dock with remote which included all the cables(A/V composite and s-video) so I can view my videos/movies on my tv. Well...it doesn't work with the tv out option settings. I can sync, charge with it but when I change the settings to tv out - yes, tv signal - Ntsc, the screen states "TV Out Enabled, Please connect video accessory" ... but all the cables are connected??? Has anyone had any luck with 3rd party docking system? Or is it that you can only use the apple brand? and if so, do I need to buy the cables and the docking system? Someone please help because support is useless.

  • 3rd generation iPod with Apple Universal Dock?

I have a 3rd generation iPod, the one with touch buttons (not touch screen). The new Apple Universal Dock will run with that iPod model? I know that I won't be able to see videos on a TV because my iPod doesn't play video, but should I'll be able to charge it and sync it with the computer and connect it to the hifi stereo? The Apple Remote could run as well?

I don't see why it wouldn't, unless its for some reason imcompatible with FireWire.
The Apple Store doesn't list it on the compatible iPods list, but I believe that is for 2 reasons: 1) They want you to buy a new, video-capable iPod and 2) It doesn't come with a dock adaptor designed to fit the 3rd gen.

  • I have a ipod classic which i purchased 2007,can i use the new apple tv dock to play my itunes video clips via my ipod classic to view on my tv

hi there, i have a ipod classic purchased in 2007,with the release of the new Apple TV dock in Australia,my question to anyone out there including apple suooort staff,CAN I USE THIS NEW DEVICE TO VIEW MY VIDEO CLIPS I DOWN LOADED FROM ITUNES ON MY TV INSTEAD OF BUYING THE APPLE COMPONANT CABLES....THANKS  EDWARD

You can plug the iPod into the same iTunes library as your iPod Touch and sync whatever content you like to it. There is no limilt to the number of iPads, iPhones, or iPods you can sync with one iTunes library, account, or computer.  How you sync one device will not affect the syncing preferences of the other.

  • IPhone (3,3G,4) does not work with Apple Universal Dock.

I have a 3rd generation iPod Touch that has been upgraded to iOS 4. My iPod Touch will no longer sync via the Apple Universal Dock. Also, my new iPhone 4 also will not sync via the Apple Universal Dock.

Trust a geek not to give up. I decided to get to the bottom of the "iOS device does not work with the Apple Universal Dock" problem. I noticed that the iPhone 4 and iPad came with slightly different USB-Dock adapter cables. I wondered if that might be the issue. My Apple Universal Dock was connected to my Mac via the original dock adapter cables which are slightly larger. I connected the newer cables between the Mac and the Apple Universal Dock and .... voila! Both the iPod Touch with iOS 4 and the iPhone can now connect via the Apple Universal Dock. Apple changed something in the way the adapter cables function.
Of course I still have the problem with the car head unit dock adapter ... Sigh. I'll have to call Best Buy ( uughh! ) and find out if they'll do the update for me. The were the vendor authorized installer.

  • IPod, Apple Universal Dock and Remote

    Hello everyone,
So I have this 3-years-old 3g iPod, a 4th generation that still has black and white display and no video. Yesterday I just bought this Apple Universal Dock on a discount which has an IR receiver, audio output but no s-video output (i think it is an old version of the dock).
The dock and the ipod works fine. My ipod does sometimes act funny like I can't auto-sync all my songs to the ipod but has to do it manually. But it works fine with the dock, charging and cleanly put the songs to the speakers just fine.
Until I get my remote out from my macbook. I read it on the net that it is supposed to work with the dock as well. I've tried pairing it many times with the dock but still, not even volume up/down can be controlled from the remote. But the remote still works well with the macbook.
Is this because simply my 3G iPod is, uhm, too old?

Ok, I think you have the newer version of the dock (Apple removed the S-Video out in 2007). Yes the remote should work, what do you mean by "paired".
    And,

Which iPod is it a 3g or 4th gen?

  • Your thoughts.. lack of functionality Apple Universal Dock Remote Control

Most of us that toy around with the a/v out capabilities of the Touch are aware that standard remote control functionality is not currently available with the Apple Universal Dock remote. I can understand how mapping the multi-touch functionality to the remote's 'standard iPod wheel' functionality is like mapping apples (no pun intended) to oranges. But, I would imagine a firmware update could do the trick. However, I think it would be really cool (and expensive) to create a mini multi-touch remote.
I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on this.
I have posted my enhancement request, firmware upgrade first.. new remote second... to Apple's feedback site... please send in your comments if you feel the same way I do... they do listen...

What happens when you try to use the remote with an iPod touch in an Apple Universal Dock? I'd been thinking of getting Apple's dock/remote, especially because the features guide says,
You can connect iPod touch to your TV and watch your videos on the larger screen. Use the Apple Component AV Cable, Apple Composite AV Cable, or other iPod touch compatible cable. You can also use these cables with the Apple Universal Dock, available separately, to connect iPod touch to your TV. (The Apple Universal Dock includes a remote, which allows you to control playback from a distance.)
Does the remote have only limited function, then? What does the remote do, or not do?

  • Nano 3rd GEN & Apple Universal Dock

Hi! I've just bought a nano 3rd GEN and a Apple Universal Dock. I've a probleme with the compatibility of these two devices. When I'm connecting the nano with the Universal Dock, there is only one channel (the right channel) whitch works.
I've try a nano 2sd GEN and it works very well. Do you think the nano 3rd GEN isn't compatible withe the Apple Universal Dock ?

I am almost positive it is the way in which the iPod is sitting in the dock, or the way the 1/8" stereo-phono plug is connected at the back (but as you mention, prior iPods work with both channels, it is likely not that issue). On the Apple dock connecter there are the 3 pins for audio, Left, Right, and common/ground. If you only have common/left connected, you will only hear left-side audio.
I have had this happen to me also when using my iPhone in a non-iPhone dock, or my 2G nano in my iPhone dock. If I am able to press down on the right side of my 2G nano sometimes, it connects and intermittently disconnects audio from one of the channels.
I would try to remove the plastic "widget" that came with the nano, and attempt to gently seat the new 3G nano in situ in the dock, and I bet the problem becomes either intermittent, or solved all-together.
I have had almost identical issues with numerous iPods.

  • Bluff package: Apple Universal Dock

I am the owner of a 2G iPod classic and my girlfriend owns a 1G iPod nano.
To use our iPods with the same HiFi system I thought it would be nice to have an universal dock. As this dock - according to the promisses on the package - can be used universaly and is compatible with ALL iPod models with dock connectors I thought I could just connect the Universal Dock to our HiFi system and then dock either my or my girlfriends iPod just the way we like it. After I bought an Universal Dock (MB125G/A) I learned that I was wrong.
I was able to get the iPod nano to run in the Universal Dock, but my 2G iPod classic won't charge and makes no move when docked in the Universal Dock.
Today I learned from the guy from the Apple Phone Support that my 2G iPod classic is NOT compatible with the Universal Dock and that there would only exist one Universal Dock that is compatible with both iPods but this Universal Dock I would need (MA045G/A) is not sold anymore. I was pretty surprised to learn that there exist different models of the Universal Dock since I never noticed different models in the Online store or anywhere else and since UNIVERSAL for me implicates that there is only one model that can be used for every device.
When I talked to the guy from the Support I first thought: Hey, thats the **** system of the manufacturer. Like this they make sure people always have to buy the new devices although theirs old ones actually work perfectly fine.
But guess what. I was wrong again!
I asked the guy from the Support if it would be possible to use the Universal Dock for example together with an iPod touch AND an iPod nano. I learned from the guy that because the iPod touch uses a different technology this also is not be possible!!!
Apparently it is also for a manufacturer like Apple that is - or for me was - well known for the functionality of their devices impossible to create a dock that works with every iPod. I can hardly believe that it is the last conclusion of wisdom that one has to use one dock with each iPod!
I am extremly disappointed from you Apple guys! But what I'm really shocked of is the fact that you write on the package that the device is an UNIVERSAL Dock and compatible with ALL iPod models with dock connector. That's a stone cold falsehood I up to today wouldn't have expected from Apple....

To be frank, I am also suprised that your apple universal dock, does not compatiable for the 1st Gen iPod Nano, but when I read the link below:-
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?productLearnMore=MB1 25G/A#overview
It is clearly stated at the buttom of the page that only the iPod (with Video funtion) i.e. iPhone iPod Video and 3rd Gen iPod Nano .... are compatiable with mb125g/a

  • Weird Apple Universal Dock Problems

I have had my Apple Universal Dock for about a year and a half.  I have many problems with it now.  I have an iPhone 3GS and I use my dock to charge it every night.  I have the apple remote (white).
    Problems:
    1.Will not work with remote
2.Says iPhone is Not Supported With This Accessory
3.Cannot play music through iPhone speakers
4.Cannot use Audio audio out port
The only thing I can use this dock for is to charge my iPhone.  I paid $50 for this and I could of just got the iphone 3G dock and saved $30.  Has anybody else had these problems?  Will Apple replace it even though I have had it for over a year?  I have had these problems for a long time, but thought it was just my phone.  I have 3 of these docks in my house and yesterday I plugged my phone into one of them and all of the problems I had with my dock had not been there.  I guess i just have a lemon?  If anybody else has had this experience, please let me know.  I do not want to spend another $50 on a new dock.  Any replies would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

  • Problem with Apple Universal Dock and Iphone 3G

Just bought the newest version of the Apple universal dock (revision C), so I can have one dock for my iphone and all my ipods.
It appears that even the newest version isn't 100% compatible with the iphone.
When the iphone is connected via the dock, you get no alert sounds such as for new email, text, etc..when the phone rings you DO get audio then.
Also, when you try and sync the iphone with itunes while connected, it won't sync. It just hangs and says "sync cannot be completed"....
Connecting the iphone directly via the cable to the computer solves all these issues.
They advertise this as compatible with iphone but obviously not so...

    Update:
    I've checked this:
-Aux (Dock-Connector) of the iPod has no damage, no problems playing music in the car!
-Same Problem now with iPhone. It gets charged and so, but if I want to listen to music it is very quiet, music is playing for half a second or so, after that stopped, than goes on playing for a second or so. Cracking sounds often while music is stopped.
So the Dock is broken, I guess.
Any possibility to restart/resert or so by my own or try to get it fixed by apple?
    Greetz!

  • Ipod Classic 80gb won´t work with apple universal dock and remote

I own 2 ipods a 5th generation 60gb and an ipod classic 60gb. I've just bought an apple universal dock with remote and the original apple component and composite AV cables. I connected the universal dock to my TV via the composite cable, with my ipod 5th gen I can watch videos on the TV and control the ipod with the apple remote but when I connect my ipod classic to the universal dock it will charge but I can´t get any video out or control the ipod with the remote. It's as if the ipod classic doesn't recognize the universal dock and it keeps showing the connect the video accessory screen, even when i tried using the apple component AV cable. I dont think the problem is with the universal dock because it works fine with my Ipod video 60gb, but with my Ipod Classic 80gb the remote control and video out won't work at all, i can´t even control the playback of audio playlists. Does anyone know why that is happenning? Please help me!

I have the Classic 80gb also...same probem. I retuned the Apple Universal Dock and purchased one that was half the price. Pluged it in and it works perfectly! So my advice would be to save some money and get products that work.

  • Can the Apple Universal dock

Can the Apple Universal dock & remote work with the iPod nano 7th generation?  Especially to connect to a powered speaker in my home stereo system?
Will the new Lightning to 30 pin adapter be required & will it work in the Universal dock?

  • Would the Apple Universal Dock work with any cables?

Does anybody know if the Apple Universal Dock works with any A/V composite cables for video out from the iPhone or the Nano 3rd gen., or do I have to buy the Apple $50 cables too?

I have a U2 iPod, and I can connect it to the TV with regular composite (RCA) splitter cables getting video and audio out.... I tried and now I know that I can't use the same cables to get video out of the iPhone or the 3 gen Nano, but I thought that using the Apple Universal Dock I could. So you are saying that even using the Dock I need the 30 pin to get video out?

  • True LIne-Out on Apple Universal Dock?

Just purchased the Apple Universal Dock and noticed that the line-out volume is adjustable via the docked device's wheel. I've Googled this topic and still can't find a conclusive answer as to whether or not the Apple Universal Dock has a true line-out. I sure hope the line-out signal isn't internally tapped off of the output of the iPod's headphone amp!
The idea being that a line-out signal should be higher fidelity, as it represents the output of the internal iPod DAC and bypasses the lo-fi headphone amp and volume control.

    Mitch 751 wrote:
I am not an electronic expert, but the iPod I tried on the Apple universal dock does bypass the its volume wheel.
Maybe there are different Apple Universal Dock models that behave differently then. I just purchased mine yesterday at the Apple Store and it's model MB125G/C. With both an iPod Touch and a 30GB Video iPod I was able to adjust the volume via the iPod wheel. To me, that says it's not a "true" line-out signal, but is instead being altered by the dock.
But I am not very sure whether it implies to every non-apple product of universal dock.
For your info, the Wadi iTransport dock can pick the digital signal of the iPod.
Yes, I'm aware of the Wadia i170 and also the Peachtree iDecco that have an iPod dock that extracts the digital stream from an iPod. I'd bet that we'll see more products that do this, assuming Apple allows the licensing agreement. I'm not interested in spending for the Wadia i170, as I have a Peachtree Decco2 and use a Sonos ZP90 to stream ALAC decoded files to the Decco2. I just wanted a "decent" iPod dock to connect to the analog RCA inputs of the Decco2 for friends and family to easily play music on their iPods.

  • Apple Universal dock / Apple Remote.

if i buy the Apple Universal Dock, can i use the following remote for both my dock and my MacBook?
and, if i use it with my MacBook, does it work as the buttons on the keyboard (play/pause/volume), or can i only use it with Itunes?

Which model Macbook do you have? Any with the IR port will work just fine. I have only been able to control music through iTunes, though there may be a driver that allows it to work with other music players (I have been able to use my remote with Apple Keynote and MS Office Powerpoint)
