New apps won't sync to iPod touch

So, i downloaded some new apps and am having a new problem - i check them to have them sync from iTunes to my iPod touch, but after clicking 'apply' and watching the new apps "installing", the app then unchecks itself and is nowhere to be found on my iPod. I tryed restoring the iPod but that didn't help. there are no restrictions set on my iPod either. am i doing something wrong? iTunes says my software is up to date...

If you have the latest version of iTunes the Check for Update in the Summary pane in iTunes under your iPod should say 4.2.1 is available if you have a 2G iPod. However, from you having only iOS 2.2.1, you probably have a 1G iPod. You can identify your iPod here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353
If you have a 1G iPod you can only go as far iOS 3.1. To get that go here. It is a paid update:
To get the "Purchase... ling in the above to work properly, you may have to try different browsers.

I've been having this problem for a while now. Whenever I update an app that I already have, the updated app won't sync to my touch and I get an error message. However, new apps downloaded from itunes work fine, they just are not current. Any help?

    - Have you tried a reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • ITunes On New Computer Won't Sync To iPod Touch

A couple months ago I got a new laptop. I was able to transfer all my songs over from the iPod Touch (5th Generation) to the computer successfully (including plays w/ a program I downloaded). I made changes to the library since then (deleting some songs and adding some new ones). Today for the first time since I got the new laptop, I tried to sync iTunes (updated) to the iPod 3 times but it wouldn't make any changes. I've yet to update the iOS (my iPod is 2 iOS's behind). If anyone can help, thank you in advance.

You can only sync with one computer/iTunes library. To make this your syncing computer:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
If ll the synced media like apps and music are on the new computer, just backup to iTunes and restore from that backup
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes

  • Apps won't sync for Ipod Touch 5th gen and Itunes 11

I need some suggestions on how to fix this. I have removed and reinstalled itunes with no success.
I updated Itunes and now I can't sync apps on the ipod. I am manually selecting the apps. It syncs apps for another 4th gen ipod but wont for the newer one.
It will sync music but not apps.

Yes I have synced before with no problem to the new Ipod.
    Music is syncing okay.
In the APP tab in itunes it thinks it has synced the apps, they just haven't actually appeared on the ipod.
The apps have synced to an older ipod.
I updated Itunes, I was going to try to go back to the earlier verision of Itunes but because of another issue (no hard drive space) I deleted my restore points and can't get back earlier itunes.

  • Apps won't sync on iPod touch

I can see them in iTunes, but they won't sync on the device.  Any thoughts?

I would try redownloading the apps directly to your iPod by:
How to redownload purchased apps from the App Store
If you follow the instructions you will not be charged again.
Then try transferring the the apps to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer

After I updated to iTunes 9.0.3.15 I tried to sync my iPod Touch. All went well until this error message popped up; "Some of the items in the iTunes Library, including "headstrong", were not copied to the iPod "Sam's iPod" because you are not authorized to play them on this computer." ok so I go and authorize it type in my PW and Apple ID correctly and get this error message!; "We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The file or directory is corrupt and unreadable. There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please Try Again later."
I run diagnostics and this is what I got and pass all the tests except for the CD in the drive, could anyone please help? It won't allow me to sync any apps to my iTouch and half of my purchased music.

Are you on a Mac? I found this [Type -36 error (I/O Errors (bummers)|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2433]
This file is having difficulty while either reading from the drive or writing to the drive. The file
may have been improperly written data to the drive or the hard drive or disk may be damaged.
This is almost always indicative of a media error (hard error on the disk). Sometimes (rarely) it is transient.
Solutions: Try copying the file to another drive. Use a disk recovery software, such as Disk First Aid to examine the disk. You can try rebooting with all extensions off. Once in a while this will allow you to read the data. The file in question should be restored from a backup that was stored on a different disk. Regular backups can reduce the time to recover from this error.
    Hope that helps.

  • Apps will not Sync with iPod Touch

    Hi,
I bought three new Apps this morning thru iTunes store.  They will not sync with my son's i-Pod Touch.  (The Apps are compatible with the iPod Touch).  When I plug the iPod into the computer and I click on the Apps tab at the top, the screen is grey and I cannot click or unclick the 'Sync Apps' button.  What can I do?
Thanks for your help!!  It is much appreciated.

    - Is the iPod connected to the computer it was last synced with? Syncing is different than manually managing music.
    - On the iPod go to Settings>Store and see who is signed in.  To change, just log out and sign in the correct account.

  • New Purchased apps will not sync to ipod touch

Ok, my son just purchased two more apps to put on his ipad touch. they show up in our library, but will not sync. "Sync Apps" is checked, as is "automatically sync new apps". All other apps are checked and are showing in his ipod touch. These two new ones, will not sync. when you check the boxes for them from the apps screen, i get the "revert" and "apply" boxes appearing. I click on "apply" then it changes to "sync" and when I click that, it goes through the sync process, then unchecks the two new apps when done. of course these two apps have failed to sync. Music sync is working fine. Any help out there?

Are the apps compatible with the iPos e.g. is the relevant iOS version on the iPod (Settings > General > About > Version) and the apps are designed to work on the iPod - an app's requirements are shown on the left-hand side of its description page in the store.

  • New apps won't sync

so I never had a problem with syncing new apps on my touch before but now all of a sudden its like it doesn't recognize there is something new there unless i remove a previous app from my touch. My iPod has plenty of free space left so all of my new apps should sync. Please help!

Have you tried taking any troubleshooting steps with this?
    First, verify your syncing preferences:
    - Connect the iPod and select it in the left-hand side of iTunes
    - Select the Applications tab
    - Make sure it is set to sync applications, and if "selected apps" is chosen, your desired apps have checkmarks in front of them in the box below
You can delete the apps from your iTunes Library, then download a new copy from iTunes (if you act as though you're trying to purchase them a second time you should be prompted to download them again for free) and see if you can sync then.
You can also deauthorize/reauthorize your computer for the iTunes Store account used to purchase the apps. From your Store menu in iTunes, choose Deauthorize computer, and then go back and choose Authorize computer from the same menu.

  • Apps won't install on iPod Touch 4G

I have a new iPod Touch 4G and have not been able to install apps or music.  The only way I can get them is by installing and purchasing on my PC, then syncing.  Any idea what is going on?  I didn't have this problem on my previous 4G.
When I try to install, this is what happens (using a free app as an example):
    Hit "free"
    Hit "Install App"
"Installing" flashes, but then it asks for my ID & password
I have to then enter my Apple ID & password
It goes back to the "page" where I click "free" & the cycle goes on and on.
Thanks for helpign me solve this problem!

    Try:

  • Old computer crashed; loaded iTunes to new computer, won't sync my iPod

The computer I initially set up my 60g iPod video crashed (windows based). I loaded iTunes on my new computer (also windows based) and even entered my iPod serial number. When I plug it into the USB port, iTunes recognizes the iPod (with my name) and even shows all the songs and videos on the screen, but they are in faded gray and I can't highlight them or upload them into iTunes. When the iPod is first plugged in, I get the message about the iPod being authorized on another computer and can set it up on the new one, but then it would remove the entire contents and update with the new library which has nothing in it.
Is there any way to upload my iPod contents into the newly loaded iTunes on my new computer? I got an iTouch for X-Mas and I am hoping that when I load that software, it will recognize my older iPod's music library and upload it. Of course, this won't matter if I can't get my old stuff into me new iTunes.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • New album won't sync to iPod (knife party)

So i just bought the new knife party album "Abandon Ship" and it won't sync to my iPod for some reason. Ive got an iPod touch (2nd gen i think?).
Essentially it just won't sync i drag the album onto my iPod, on the iPod i get the revolving arrows for about 30 seconds - 1 minute then it stops but the album is not there. I also cannot redownload the album to my iPod, i tried to redownload it on my iPod and i simply get a greyed out "purchased" button on all of the songs. If i sign out and try to buy the song, then sign in it says "You have already purchased this album, would you like to buy it again?" Which of course i click no to.
The strangest part is that if i go into my iPod in iTunes and then on recently added playlist the album is there but is greyed out and the dotted circle is present as though it is waiting to sync, but won't I've added a picture of this to clarify (see below).
Ive completely updated both my iPod and iTunes and relogged into both + restarted both, to no avail.
Thanks for any help in advance guys!
    Isaac.

This shouldn't really be a problem for most music. I'd say 99% of the time the "Artist" and "Album Artist" are the same. This only came up for me because of a new album I bought from iTunes. I looked through my other music and didn't find any others.
You can go in iTunes and just delete the album artist field. Probally fastest way.
I am not sure you have the same problem. In my case the album art and album info was in the apple TV but no songs showed up. Can you see the songs but just can't play them?

  • Apps won't update! iPod touch 2nd gen!

I have a almost brand new ipod touch and normally when i have wifi little red numbers will pop up about undates for pre-existing apps, & ill just click "update all" and it works. but now, I press "update all" and it starts to work and then a little msg says "Cannot connect to the iTunes store. I have wifi, and the account that i use is correct, but for some reason it wont update. so now i have a little, red, annoying "10".
    Please Help!

Are you sure your WiFi is working? Can you contact sites with Safari?
You can always update your apps using iTunes and it is probably a whole lot faster.

  • App won't install in iPod Touch

I downloaded the app for Blackjack 21 Pro. When I tried to synch my iPod it said I needed new iPhone software. I don't have an iPhone. I have a Touch. The app page does say that 21 Pro will work on a Touch.
    How do I install it?

    OS4 installation instructions.
When I click Update on the iPod Summary screen, it tells me that iTunes is up to date. When I click iTunes => About iTunes, it tells me that I'm running iTunes 9, 9.1.1 (12). When I click iTunes => Check for updates, it says 'This version of iTunes (9.1.1) is the current version.' So I'm moderately certain that I'm running the latest version of iTunes.
Step 2 says to click on the iPod in the Source List on the left. Did that.
Step 3 says 'In the iPod Touch Summary pane, click Check for Updates.' There is an image that shows a Check for Update button and a Restore button. I do not have those buttons on the iPod Summary pane. I have Update and Restore. There is no Check for Update button.

  • ITunes Won't Sync with iPod Touch

Since migrating to my new iMac my old iPod Touch would not sync with iTunes. After following the articles on reinstalling the mobile device support I found that the iPod would only sync with iTunes once before it was necessary to reinstall again. Not very helpful.
Anyway, the solution is here! Run software update, as there is an iPhone SDK patch ready and waiting for you. Downloaded and restarted the iMac, and hey presto we have an iPod again, hoorah.

Bingo! Worked for me too (running Software Update and installing the iPhone SDK update).
I'm also staggered that this isn't explicitly mentioned as a likely fix in the general troubleshooting page for this connection problem on this site. As someone who diligently -- but manually -- downloads all patches and updates, I never use Software Update, and yet I could not find the iPhone SDK update available to download manually.
Background: my 2nd gen iPod Touch refused to be recognised by iTunes after upgrading my machine to Snow Leopard. iPod recognised by iPhoto and in iTunes on another Mac. Tried every troubleshooting item on the list at:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747
Notice that the suggestion to try Software Update is way down the list and is easy to disregard if you prefer to update your machine manually, as I do.
Given the number of users with this problem (I've read through dozens of posts looking for a fix for a good three weeks now) you'd think someone at Apple would reorder the troubleshooting list or at least highlight this option. Hopefully anyone else with this issue will stumble upon this thread, as I did, and get a happy result.
