New Areca Advanced Settings

I recently updated the firmware on my Areca Raid to V1.51, I have noticed extra options, could someone please advise on the settings.

Those are actually some very nice control settings especially with the current HDD's shipping with bad blocks. I may have to email the Intel raid engineers and request the same. Basically you have 2 sets of settings there. 1 Set controls the Timeout and error recovery options that controllers have with enterprise drives. Often times even though the enterprise drives have the timeout feature it does not kick on in time before the raid controller marks the drive out as bad. Those settings allow you to adjust that if that becomes a problem. The other set has to do with caching models related to AV streams. AV streams require constant communication that is consistent and mechanical drives have to handle those with the latency every mechanical drive has for seek time due to the way they work. Those settings help you optimize the caching model to best handle multiple consistent streams of data that have to remain consistent. You can always play with these settings and run some AV tests along with drive benchmark tests to see if there is some optimal manual configs. I would not adjust the Controller timeout settings unless you start having drives drop out of raids in a short period of time.

Yah, except with the new NSA revelations I want to set and/or verify my levels of encryption as I have in the past. Removing all encryption information leaves us all hanging. SSL 3.0 and TSL 1.0 should be on for everyone while SSL 2.0 needs to be off forever. Is this the case? How would I know?
So, no, calling users morons (after reading the blog on this topic) and making a feature available for a purportedly 'only 2%' of users who care is not a sufficient argument. If Mozilla is truly committed to not working with the NSA, then encryption should be identified for all users of Firefox instead of completely hidden from view.

TS1363 I'm trying to hook up my new Apple TV, but can't find the advanced settings in iTunes. Where is it?

The Apple TV says change the settings in "Advanced settings", but I can't find "Advanced settings" in iTunes anywhere.

You might need to bring up the menu bar first.
If you're using version 11.0.1.12, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Now you should be able to find the duplicates thing in the View Menu.
(If you're still using iTunes version 11.0.0.163, you'd need to update to 11.0.1.12 to get the Display duplicates control.)
EDIT: Sorry, in the initial version of this reply, I said the Show Duplicate items was in the File Menu. It's in the View Menu in version 11.0.1.12.

Advanced Settings not saved

There seems to be a bug in the Contribute Software, at least
on my version. I am having to program all my advanced settings
twice, once before I publish and once after I publish.
For example, all my HREF settings default to referential
links (instead of absolute links) and all my target settings
default to the default window (instead of my setting to open a new
window) after I publish. I can fix it, but only by going back into
the edit function, reselecting it, and then republishing.
As you can imagine, this is really annoying and time
consuming. Do you know why this is happening and how it can be
fixed?

Advanced Settings do not stick!!!

Why do my "Advanced" settings change or come unchecked!! It is getting quite annoying. I check the box to remove ALL emails from server "right away". days later, all of a sudden all the same emails from the morning come down AGAIN. I go to my settings and sure enough, the box is unchecked. What up with this??? Also, getting annoyed with the need to check mail again before it will allow me to send a new message. HELP!!

For the first problem, it sounds like there might be some minor corruption to the Mail.app preference file.
Regarding the second problem, does your ISP or email account provider require POP before SMTP authentication which means you must login and check the account's incoming mail server for new mail before you can use the account's SMTP server to send mail but this should only be required once per login session (without quitting the Mail.app) and not each time you send a message. Has this always occurred or a recent change?
To target the Mail.app preference file, do the following:
All account information is stored in the Mail.app preference file located at Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist.
Unless you have a backup copy of the preference file that is working properly, this will require re-entering all email account information.
With the Mail.app quit and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail. Copy the Mail folder and place the copy on the Desktop for backup purposes.
Using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist. Move the com.apple.mail.plist file to the Desktop.
Launch Mail and decline any prompt to import mailboxes. After re-entering all email account information the same as before, the Mail.app should rediscover the existing account named folder(s) and mailboxes at Home > Library > Mail.
If you have a .Mac account, the .Mac account information will be re-entered automatically. If you don't have a .Mac account, the email account you provided as part of the setup assistant will also be entered automatically. If so and you no longer use this account, you can delete the account from within Mail.
After confirming all mailboxes were successfully rediscover, you can delete the copy of the Mail folder and old com.apple.mail.plist file from the Desktop.
I've been using the Mail.app exclusively since Jaguar was introduced, thru Panther and now Tiger and although I've never experienced a problem with the Mail.app preference file, I include the preference file as part of my regular backup.
You only need to replace the backup copy after making any changes to account information or after deleting or adding a new account.
If this occurs again (which it shouldn't be a regular occurance), you'll have a good working backup copy of the com.apple.mail.plist file to replace the existing without having to re-enter all email account information again.

Flash Player 9 crashes my browser when I open advance settings

Hi, I'm using the newest version of Flash (9,0,115,0) and
when I try to access the advanced settings and click the webcam
tab, both my browsers crash (IE and Firefox2).
The screen I am talking about is:

I can click on any other parts of the tab, but it only
crashes when I click on the webcam icon. This is weird, because the

uninstall your cam and it's drivers and retest..
Another thing you can do (if you're the admin on the machine)
is create a new user profile.. Log in as that user, install the
browser of your choice and your cam drivers and test with just that

In what advanced settings? Which app?
You can't change the main email address belonging to your iCloud account, if that's what you're trying to do. You would have to create an entirely new iCloud account from scratch.
Or are you trying to create an 'email alias'. You can have up to three of these - they are additional addresses (not accounts) which deliver into the sam inbox as your main address. Please see:

Clear SPA303 Admin/Advanced Settings

I have an SPA303 that was previously working fine with Ring Central then I cancelled service and tried 8x8, but they weren't able to provision it. Now I'm trying with another voip provider and they can't provision it either. We've ruled out the network as the issue. I told the tech that I had gone into the advanced settings with 8x8 and she told me that changing settings there could cause the issue.
So I would like to know if when you factory default the phone do those settings get defaulted as well? If they do not is there anyway to clear the admin and advanced settings to default? It seems totally absurd to purchase another phone due to settings changes.

I changed my Beacon, RTS, and Frag values to the above values and now I'm unable to connect to the wireless network anymore. I tried to match the RTS and Fragmentation settings in my wireless utility (Hawking Wireless - RT73) to the new values, but I can't connect anymore. I didn't see anywhere i could change the Beacon number in the utility, but I wonder if that is my problem... Any ideas?
I have no internet, no network connection. I can connect to other networks in range, but even though the network with these altered Beacon/RTS/Frag values is detected, I cannot connect to it. I can send packets but all received packs fail. (CRC Fail, I think)
I can't get back into the web setup for the router, so is there anything I could do from my end? Find an adapter that lets me configure the Beacon setting?

Time Capsule Advanced Settings

Is there any manual or link online that can point me in a direction to understand the advanced settings better on the new 802.11ac Time Capsule? For example, sharing disks over WAN and global hostname configurations, etc.
I've searched online and I cannot seem to find any details specifically with AirPort utility version 6 that goes into detail with these advanced settings.

There is only one. Unless your ISP is generous and supplies mulitple IP addresses which you pay a lot of money for now.. then we all get just one public IP.
If you have a cheap and nasty ISP that will give you private IP and nasty things start to happen.. so tell me if the IP is public or private??
The TC also has a LAN IP address.. this is not related to WAN and is set on the TC. The LAN IP must be different to the WAN IP for the TC to route.. different address range. By default TC is 10.0.1.1
It will give a double NAT warning if both IP WAN and LAN are private range. But it will still route. As long as they are different ranges.
Explain what you need.. or why you would get two WAN ip addresses.

Authentication in advanced settings for pop outgoing is grayed out.

I'm not able to send outgoing emails while at work and our network admin told me to use authenticated smtp, port 587. So I went into advanced settings, found the Outgoing using port 587, but the Authentication button is grayed out. Any ideas how to enable it or why it's grayed out?

That didn't work for me either. I couldn't enter a password into the Outgoing Settings field and have it "stick". And I couldn't choose an authentication method.
But now I think I fixed it.
I've been syncing this account with my Mac for a while, and I'm just now getting this server in question to actually use authentication; I'm not sure, but I think I've been doing SMTP over TLS unauthenticated for a while now.
I believe what's happened is that there's some crud deep in my iPhone that's "stuck" on unauthenticated for that mail account. And I think the key is either the "Description" field or "Address" field.
That is, I removed and recreated my account from scratch, on my phone. The account previously had the Description "Personal", and when I recreated it, I once again gave it the description "Personal". This did not solve my problem. I could not get an Outgoing Settings password to stick, and I couldn't choose any form of Authentication.
Now I've recreated the account again from scratch, this time giving it a different Description and Address. Now I'm getting results.
But I'm getting even stranger results. I changed Description and Address, but the Host Name and User Name stayed the same--that must be the "key" in another way. Because now both of the accounts (I didn't destroy the original account settings) have the same description and same everything else.
Anyhow, I think I've cleared out whatever was getting stuck. The result is that if you have a brand-new iPhone, and you point it at a box that asks for AUTH, the iPhone will go through all sorts of hoops and jumps and detect what you have, and allow you to enter a password. But if you get a setting stuck in your iPhone somewhere, you won't be able to undo it without some effort. In my case, making a new mail account with a different "Description" and "Address".
And I've now cleaned everything up--I've removed one of the accounts, so now I only have one (can't tell which one was which, they were both identical), changed all the settings back to exactly the way they used to be, and I can still have an Outgoing Settings password, and choose Authentication. And outgoing mail actually works too...

Where are the chapter markers and advanced settings in iMovie 10.0.1?

I have always separated my movies into scenes as chaters so I can find things later, how can this be done now?
Also the Advanced settings allowed for picture in picture and other neat manipulations. Are these all gone?

Picture-in-Picture, Cutaways, Side-by-Side and Green-screen/Blue-screen effects are now known as Connected Clips. They are accessed in a different way in the new iMovie 10. See this Apple iMovie 10 Help topic for the full details:

IPhone3g Mail Setup Issue - Advanced settings no-more?

Ok, so I'm a student at TCU in Ft. Worth. I recently purchased the new iPHone3g to replace my old palm lifedrive. I was following the instructions my school provides to setup email on iphones at http://www.tr.tcu.edu/iPhone.htm and came across quite a big issue. Step six tells me to go to advanced settings and set SSL for incoming to OFF and SSL for outgoing to ON.
WELLLLL on the I-3g, there is no longer an advanced settings section. The only place I have found one is for email accounts that have already been set up on the phone, and even then they don't give the option to change for outgoing or incoming.
So does anyone know of a way to setup my email? I'd be ****** if my iphone was just as useless as my brick of a palm.

I think I can help. I have yahoo and gmail set up on 3G.
Go to Settings> Mail, contacts,.....> choose your email account> outgoing mail server set-up (smtp) is just above the advanced button at the bottom of that screen. Click on primary server and change SSL to watever you need it to be. Go back and click advanced and change your imap or pop server. cheers.

If you are getting a HDD SMART error, then the PC is saying the HDD is on death row and you need to replace it. It is not safe to your data to continue using the HDD while in this state - it could potentially fail and your data would be thrown into the void.

I was playing with my ipad settings (it's an older model) and noted in the advanced settings of Safari there was a place to view website databases. When I clicked on this I saw websites. How do these get there and what does the space amount mean?

Can anyone tell me how these get there? Can a website be posted even if it was never went to? What does the space amount mean? For example, 1.5 kb...is this quite a bit? Would it indicate someone has gone to a site multiple times?
I share my ipad with my teenage daughter and I'm trying to find out if she's lying to me. Obviously she's swearing that she has "no idea" how these got there and I'm trying to keep her safe (she's only 14).

Think of your PC and the 'temporary internet folder' where it keeps cached copies of web pages or elements off a web page for 'quicker display the next time you visit'. That's pretty much what that folder is. 1.5K is tiny. Probably just a basic page with some text on it. (you might be confusing 1.5K with 1.5 megabyte....megabyte is large...it's roughly 1000 kilobytes, so the 1.5K is a tiny file)
As far as I know, the only way info gets into that folder is if the browser has been to that site.
if you have a concern there are browsers out there, McGruff is one i've seen recommended, that allow some degree of parental control and supervision. That or you could passcode lock the iPad or enable the restrictions to turn off some parts of the device to have some control.
