New barebones system wont boot

Help needed... have put together a new barebones system with the parts listed in my sig. For some reason it wont fire up. power supplies start to turn on, front panel light flashes and fans startup but then stop. Ive double checked all of the connections and they look correct with the exception of the case intrusion connector... there are no headers for a connector and no wiring from the case. I would assume that they should be shorted on this motherboard to defeat this feature however I dont have a meter to confirm that.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated. I searched thru some threads but wasnt able to find an answer yet (still reading, just running out of time here)...

Are you telling us your PSU does not have this connector? PSUs have had it for many years so it's nearly impossible for it to not have one. It will either be a single 4 pin as in this picture or an 8 pin that can be split into 2 4 pin plugs.

The point is, someone in the forums already did. All the forum regulars should remember when it happened too. A guy chastized us because we ask about the specs on people's power supplies. He took every post in the VGA forum to date and catagorized the solutions and found that only 50% of the problems in the forums were Power Supply Related. To me, if one out of every two problems in the VGA Forums is Power Supply Related, by asking the question, we can identify and solve 50% of the problems.
But we are used to people like yourself coming along every few months. Are you sure you did not used to log into these forums under the username of elzie?

Yes, he does sound a bit like me doesn't he? (or vice versa). But no, we are two different people which your moderators can prove by looking at the IP addresses of both myself and elzie.
But I must admit he echo's my views. There is a definite danger that some posters who are here to help people will latch on to one supposed "solution" i.e. the PSU which is then tailored to fit all problems. Same goes for avoiding flashing the VGA BIOS especially over the Internet.
But as I've said before, 98% of system problems are software related and hardware only plays a minor role. It's a bit like a car. Without gas, you're not going anywhere regardless of all the technology that's been pumped into it. But gas can get contaminated with grit and can clog up fuel lines. So what should we do then? Change the whole car maybe? Or just replace the carburetor? After all, we don't want to risk damaging the machine by cleaning it do we?
There's just too much emphasis these days on blaming the product as the cause of the problem and replacing parts rather than taking the view that it's the user who has caused the problem himself by not following instructions when installing software. Statistics can be adapted to suit the issue too. But as I've already said, if the PSU was the main cause of failure of high end cards, the Internet would be literally littered with news about it. But there aren't any such articles, so how do you explain that?? And as Toms Hardware.com mentions here, the CPU and high end card can draw 160 watts. So it stands to reason that if you've got a 300W PSU, you've got more than enough over to run both doesn't it??
It's all very convenient to say, "replace the PSU and your troubles will be over", but if the problem persists after doing that, it won't do MSI reputation any good and the only benefit will be that a PSU manufacturer will have made a little extra profit this year.

System wont boot up

I have the following pc
Leadtek 9800 GX
MSI P45-Neo3 FR mobo
Corsair CMPSU-450VX
the others don't matter.
Now, the system wont boot up if I dont do the following
1 - Shut down the PSU, remove power cable, remove battery. Push the power button a couple of times. Plug the power cable in, put the battery back (or just leave it out), power on the PSU and start the pc.
or
2 - Change the fsb jumper back and forth (at which point the system behaves as if I have removed the power cable and stuff at point 1).
If I don't do this the fan on the video card wont stop screaming and the monitor wont get any image (the card has 2 lights, one besides each dvi output. when I do 1 or 2, the lower one, where I plug my monitor, will go blue, the other one stay green).
Any ideas? The video card is ok, proc and psu aswell (since it "requires" a "fresh-bios" to boot up).. I'm lost.

My bad, forgot to mention the cpu
Pulled everything out, non-static surface. Tried with cpu, gpu + 1 memory and it works. Added the second memory, still works. Plugged in the sound card.. it works.
So, is there a short-circuit in the case? If so, how do I solve the problem without changing or modifying the case (its and antec 9000) ?
P.S. - I left all the cables case-mobo (power,reset, usb, audio, etc) so theyre not a problem.

Effin twilight zone I swear. Put everything back the way it was before and... it works. It freaking works. Well.. I get a BSOD but at least it works :D Any explanation?

Dv9000 new hard drive wont boot

dv9000 had smart hd failure replace hd. did that now it wont boot from cd to recover from disks. All i get is operating system not found. Please help

OK...after a lot of trial and error. It works.
Created iso from files I found online for vista home premium 64 bit
Then used wintoflash to make bootable flash stick.....fail. tried again on a my passport portable HD. Success!!!. Will boot from external HD but will not from a flash drive.

Nexus 5500 "Mezz not found" error, system wont boot

Rebooted N5548UP after software upgrade didn't go as planned and now it wont boot up stating mezz not found. Attempting to get console access to boot the kickstart and load the image again but looking for direction if that doesn't work and what the mezz not found points to ??
A software upgrade attempt from 5.1.3 to 5.2.1 broke fiber channel connectivity so a reboot to revert back to original 5.1.3 was what got us stuck with a broken reboot for FYI.

We had the same problem on a Notebook G71. If you can get to the BIOS, do a RAM and a Hard Drive test. Our Hard DRive test failed and we had to get a new hard drive. When we took the new hard drive through the Recovery phase, we still got a device missing error, not the same one as before though. We started the process over several times and finally it found what it was looking for and is working fine now.
Search these forums, you will find a lot of good advice. I did.

System wont boot after restart, hangs..

Recently i have got a strange problem.
When i restart or power on my computer without using the "main power switch on psu" my system hangs either just before cpu post or memory post.
If i turn it off and on again using the switch on the psu it boots just fine..
I have searched alot around the internet and tried many things. Tried disconnenting devices, resetting cmos, disconnect everything from mobo and resetting cmos, tried new bios, tested my ram sticks in memtest and so on..
The funny thing is that this problem suddenly occured. My system worked fine until 2 weeks ago.
Also it have happened that it freezes in windows, screen freezes and computer stops responding. But usually in have run for 2-4 days before that happens.
It would be very much appreciated if someone could help me out with this

Ok, now i am confused.
I have discussed this problem with other people in a norwegian forum. They guess that it is the motherboard which is causing this problem.
I also think that. Because system have worked perfect until recently. As i said earlier i have tried to disable some hardware to see how that worked and it was the same.
Now when system i booted it is 100% stable. The freezes that occured in windows was software related.
Also discovered that if i load windows in fail safe mode problem is gone! Have not been able to figure that one out.
Almost getting depressed here.
Comments? Tips?

System wont boot after flash

i flashed the bios the first time to upgrade to 3.6 but noticed the temps issue and wanted to revert to 3.5, now here started the problem. i downloaded the zip file from msi site, read the instructions file and since i couldnt made a boot disk for windows xp pro (tried the "make a dos startup disk" but the system wouldnt boot from it) i used the flash utility that came with live update 3. im now sure this was the biggest mistake i had ever done: i choose the A6728IMS.350 file as ROM file and it started the flash in windows (had no programs running)
after reboot the system wouldnt start
i looked at the D-Bracket and was surprised to see that it was hanging on Memory Detection Test ! so i cant use the flash recovery feature cause it wont even initialize the keyboard
any chance of recover or i can say bye bye to my bios?

have you tried to do the bios recovery ?
i had this same issue when i flashed the bios when i first got this mobo.
its basically bullshit on the part of MSI, you cant flash from a floppy, it wont let you, you have to have the bios on a hard drive.
the problem with that is, that it only works for a FAT16 or FAT32 hard drive since you have to do it thru dos.
i mean is MSI thinking, how many peple with Windows XP still have FAT hard drives., luckily i do. otherwise. ggrrr.
and you cant make a start up disk ? thats pretty wierd, format the floppy and choose Copy System Files this will make it bootable.
just put the bios file you want on a regular floppy, i dont think i made mine bootable, and hold the "Bios Recovery" button,, sorry i cant recall what it is.
and i will use whatever bios you have on the floppy.
but please be sure to read the bios recovery tutorial.
i tried to flash with on of the bios's 3 times and it still wouldnt work, i had to keep going back to the original bios.
the latest bios flashes fine so i dont know i think there is something seriously wrong with the bios from ,, i think it was Aug, or Nov.
also have you tried moving the jumper on the motherboard ??? and starting the machine ? this will change all bios settings to default, and could help you.

New Z87-G45 wont boot to windows - restart loop

I purchased a new MSI Z87-G45 Mobo and i5 4440 and now I cant boot into windows.
It was blue screening but now it just gets to windows load screen for a second and then restarts.
I have an older sata HDD would that be the issue?
I was able to install windows on a new SSD and it boots and works fine so its obviously something to do with the older HDD.

For a few weeks now I have been getting random lock ups and crashes with the PC rebooting. I thought that this could have been an overheating problem as I had installed all the latest drivers for my hardware.
So I took the pc to bits removing everything from the case & cleaning all the dust & muck out. I took off the cpu heatsink, checked the cpu for damage and this was ok. I then put fresh thermal grease on the cpu. Then I rebuilt the system making sure all ram and cards were properly seated.
Now when I turn the pc on I get no where. The power & hard drive lights come on. All the fans are working. You can hear the hard drive spinning ok. But I am getting no signal to the tft monitor, nor am I getting any POST beeps. The D bracket on the back just has 4 steady green lights on it.
I have tried a spare crt monitor with the same results.
I have also tried an old pci graphics card, leaving out the agp card, with the same results.
I hope anybody can shed light on my problem and give me some advice.

I am not saying it's definately the motherboard but I had a similar experience in the past and bought a new mobo, all was OK then. You could always take your pc to a repair shop to get it looked at. It would be a shame to buy a new board if the problem was just a dud capacitor or something like that. I would do that first if I were you!
If you decide to replace the motherboard then the MSI 865PE Neo2-PFS Platinum (Socket 478) Motherboard (MB-018-MS) from http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/MSI_Socket_478.html looks quite good, if you still plan on sticking with MSI.

yeah thats all, after reboot no sign of life.
As this is a server i cant do any analizes. As there is no news entry on the web-page i did not expected any fundamental change which causes the server no longer to start but it seems like a switch to Gentoo is really needed after this problem is solved.

4300 booted, all drivers functional, everything looks good. Thank you so much for the help. I will now say this is solved and explain everything below.
Problem: After replacing CPU computer would not boot.
Hardware: msi 990xa GD55, replacing FX 4100 with FX 4300
Issue: Computer would not boot. Fans and Mobo lights turn on. No signal to monitor.
Solution:
FX 4100 (Core Name Zambezi) and FX 4300 (Core Name Vishera) required different BIOS configurations. Computer was built with Zambezi architecture and the default BIOS ran with no configuration. In order to replace the 4100 with the 4300, a BIOS update (from MSI website, BIOS 22.5) was required.
After installing the new BIOS via USB flash the system posted properly (into a much nicer BIOS.. UEFI maybe? Not sure, but it has a nice GUI). Am now running on the 4300 with no visible problems.

As a side note, for my new build I am looking at a dual Fury X and intel i7 4790k... I was going to buy an Asus Sabretooth Mark 1 but after the support I recieved here I would love to use another MSI. The problem is my build is colored Black and White, and MSI runs black and red. Are there any White and Black MSI Mobo's with socket FCLGA1150 architecture? If that question should go elsewhere please direct me.

System wont boot after fresh install

Hello out there, i am in need of some serious help.I decided to upgrade my pc as she was showing signs of stress. so after alot of checking i decided on the k7n2 delta ilsr (future proofing in mind) amd 2600xp barton(333mhz) pc3200 512ddr
for the time being.
my problem is i cant get my system up and running, not even in safe mode.
I have tried alot of suggestions from tech supports and from these forums but with still no joy.
Everything seems to go pair shaped when windows is setting up, i have tried two seperate h/drives, win2k, winme (which i nearly got to safe mode with).
have been told everything compatible although will need to upgrade psu sooner rather than later and agp card later but both should be ok for now with what min drives i need.
error messages are
irql not less or even
boot drive innaccessable
config initialisation failed
somebody please help, spent whole of easter w/end trying which never went doen to well on the home fron (if you know what i mean)
am i doing something wrong, what should the cmos/bios settings be at.
my latest attempt was with min spec,: agp, 1 cdrom, 1 h/drive, etc.
sorry for the lenghy message but i am starting to loe hair over this now.

bought a new psu from pcworld last night. they only had one brand, jeantech, i hope this is ok, i think so, i know someone running this psu with a p4 2.8/ msi system with no probs
anyway its spec is as follows;
+5v +3.3v +12v -5v -12v +5vsb
35a 28a 17a 0.3a 0.8a 2a
200w 204w 1.5w 9.6w 10w
it also has extra 4 pin cpu supply, do i connect this as well as an alternative or do i plug in to boost supply to +12v @ 17a x2 = 34a, or does it not work like that?!
right then, i'm gonna set this all up again in a little while, so is there anything else i need to do or check.
i do have one more question though, i have win2k on a h/drive now so can i just unplug old m/board and put in new one, or do i have to do a fresh install and format the drive first and start from the begining

Another new comp that wont boot up. (please help)

I recently bought some parts to to build a new computer and i cant get it to boot up. The first time i tried it, the computer booted up fine for about 5 secs. Then, i heard 2 short beeps and it went dead. Now i cant even get the computer to turn on. Here is what i tried so far and the computer hasnt been able to turn on again:
removed everything except the cpu and heatsink, and tried it with different combination and got nothing
switch the memory to different slots
reseted the cmos
check to make sure the wire was plugged into the jpw1
recheck all my connection

It has been awhile since i last built a computer, but i never had a problem before. THe last time i built a computer the highest cpu was a pent 3, so a lot of these new hardwares are new to me. These sata drives and everything is new to me but im pretty sure i set all the connections up right.
I have been reading through the forums and i found out that 2 short beeps can mean two things. Bad memory or post failure, but wouldnt my comp still turn on and continue to beep? I can't get the D-bracket 2 connector up to see what the problem is since my computer wont even turn on. I am planning to take my PSU apart later today to see if i blew a fuse when i get home. Until then, anybody know what is wrong? Is there anything else i can do to test what is wrong with the cpu? Am i right about the 2 beeping noises? any advices would be great. Thanx in advance.

I went to my trusty reminder book and your right. 2 beeps are a memory problem or failure to post. you said you checked everything and reseated your RAM and all. have you completely disconnected your power cord from the computer? even with the computer off the mobo will still get a small amount of power to it. if your using a ATX power supply. you may need to do this to get the mother board to reset it be able to turn it back on. if you have other compatable RAM try using it to boot the computer up. wish you luck and let us know the out come. Replaced CPU and system wont boot?

I am working on building a new rig but my old one hit a hardware fault recently. After extensive Hardware troubleshooting I have found that I have an issue with my CPU (L2 cache specifically). I have been trying to fix this one while I wait to get all the components for my new system. Anyways, heres the issue.
I had an AMD FX 4100, I purchased a AMD FX 4300. The motherboard is a MSI 990XA-GD55.(Edited, wrote P67A at first.. wrong mobo)
I pulled the old cpu and installed the new one (with thermal paste, pea sized in center, pressed heatsink to distribute).
Attempted to boot. The fans turn on, the lights turn on, but there is no signal to the display and my usb devices (keyboard, mouse) do not light up.
I pulled the new CPU out and put the old one in, booted just fine. Pulled the out old cpu and tried again, same problem.
I am currently running on my old cpu. It still works, I just get random shutdowns.
With the old CPU in place I booted to the bios, set to optimized factory defaults (even though I never did any overclocking), selected save and exit, then reset. Tried the new cpu, again no signal to video, no lights on usb devices.
Any Ideas?

4300 booted, all drivers functional, everything looks good. Thank you so much for the help. I will now say this is solved and explain everything below.
Problem: After replacing CPU computer would not boot.
Hardware: msi 990xa GD55, replacing FX 4100 with FX 4300
Issue: Computer would not boot. Fans and Mobo lights turn on. No signal to monitor.
Solution:
FX 4100 (Core Name Zambezi) and FX 4300 (Core Name Vishera) required different BIOS configurations. Computer was built with Zambezi architecture and the default BIOS ran with no configuration. In order to replace the 4100 with the 4300, a BIOS update (from MSI website, BIOS 22.5) was required.
After installing the new BIOS via USB flash the system posted properly (into a much nicer BIOS.. UEFI maybe? Not sure, but it has a nice GUI). Am now running on the 4300 with no visible problems.

As a side note, for my new build I am looking at a dual Fury X and intel i7 4790k... I was going to buy an Asus Sabretooth Mark 1 but after the support I recieved here I would love to use another MSI. The problem is my build is colored Black and White, and MSI runs black and red. Are there any White and Black MSI Mobo's with socket FCLGA1150 architecture? If that question should go elsewhere please direct me.

New Athlon64-System wont start

I just bought and put together my new amd64. When I start it up all fans starts but I get nothing showing on the screen. The MSI usb/diagnostics dongle has 0 LEDs shining, the front power lights steady. It doesnt beep or anything.
I have tried the memory in all slots, I´m 100% sure the motherboard is not grounded. my Geforce 4 works great on my old computer.
By reading this forum, there seems to be many problems with memory and PSU.
Can this be whats wrong with my system too?
Or does it show something on the screen if the memory isnt comaptible?
This is really frustrating, and I cant just buy new memory until I´m 100% sure that it is the memory who is wrong.
Anyone else had the same problem? then please tell me how you solved it

Good thats the ones.
the 3.3 at 28A should be fine
the 5v at 30A is fine
but the +12v at 15 amps is very low.
To help you understand, the CPU, HDDs, CDs, Fans, and video cards, all use the +12v line. Some PSU have two 12v lines one for CPU the other for rest of system. When it takes 11- 12 Amps for the CPU alone, 7 for a vid card, 4-7 for HDDs.
Then it can take at least 20 amps on the 12v to boot board (18 Absolute min), the more you add the more you need, 28amps plus is a good place to be.
Can you beg or borrow a bigger PSU, with say 20amps at least on the 12v. Usually over 400W, better 500- 600W.
