New Battery A1175 not charging?

Purchased last week brand new Rechargeable Battery is not charging. Battery from "GenesisBatteries", A1175 10,8V-60Wh. Power adaptor glows green. Shut down when power disconnected with battery in place. Battery indicator on battery showing almost full. MacBook Pro early 2008, 2.2 GHz, Old battery model: A1175, 10,8V-60Wh, 500 cycles, 60% life, almost 4 years and still working. Whats wrong with new battery and what to do? SMC and PRAM resets done.

If that doesn't help, you may have bought a bad battery. Many of the cut-rate batteries sold online for half or less than half what Apple batteries cost have proved to be worthless. I don't know whether yours fits that description, but if it does, it's no surprise to me that it doesn't charge.

  • New battery will not charge - have we missed something obvious?

My DD has just replaced the battery on her PB. When the power supply (less than 3 months old) is attached, the led shows amber but the battery will not charge. I've tried reseating the battery with no effect. Since I purchased it from an apple dealer, I'll be taking it back tomorrow, but I wondered whether there is something obvious we've missed.
    Thanks

Thank you both. Yes I know the battery needs to be calibrated, but as you say, to calibrate, you need to charge, which is a non-starter. I'm going to take the whole thing in (again). I suspect the problem that led to the battery needing to be replaced possibly dealt a death blow to something inside. I don't know whether this is relevant, but before replacing the battery, the charger started to make a loud buzzing noise (I understand - I wasn't here), and with the old battery in place the PB kept freezing and/or rebooting. Only with the battery out and just the power supply in would the PB work. The PB is seeing the new battery, it just wont charge it. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything else I could do before taking it in.

  • New battery will not charge

Had Genius Bar install a new battery as the old one was not charging. New Apple installed battery will not charge either. Light on T-connector always shows green even after SMC reset and battery will not charge. Any ideas?

Bring it back to Apple, they may have not seated the cable/connector correctly, or the cableconnector has an issue, or there is a problem with the charging circuit. Bring in your power adaoter with you as well. Apple repairs come with 30 day warranty

    Hello halik
It is not easy to say what is wrong there.
Have you bought new and original Toshiba battery with the same part number (model number).
Is new battery recognized by the system?

  • HT1379 New battery will not charge

I have replaced my battery and reset the SMC.  However, it will still not charge. The battery is brand new

I suggest a trip to the Apple store and have them either correct the problem or replace the battery.  Do not leave the store until your battery is charging.
    Ciao.

  • Brand new battery will not charge

I just bought a new battery for my mac book, because I assumed that my old one had died. However the new one won't work either, and now I am out of the country so no genius bar visits are in my near future. The battery status is listed as uninstalled and there is an x through the battery icon in the menu bar. What am I missing? How do I install it?

If it doesn't work, run the hardware test that came with the Mac:

  • Ipod touch 4g new battery will not charge

I replaced the battery and I still get the low battery charging icon. Everything that I read indicated that the problem was with the battery. When not connected, to the charger I cannot get anything to work at all - just a blank screen with no indication that there is any power. The only time I see any indication of life is when plugged in (I see the charging icon and a very low battery image).
This is the same thing I saw before I replaced the battery so I do not appear to have changed anything. Prior to the problem the iPod was powered off for about a month. I thought that the extended time off killed the battery but now I am really puzzled.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • New battery does not charge completely

Hi, I recently purchased a third-party battery that worked fine for the first few times and then started to act up. It will charge for about 5% and then the charger LEDs turn green, and I have to manually pull the battery out of the computer, and put it back in before it will continue to charge another 5%. I can completely charge the battery in this manner, but I have to sit by the computer for 2 hours until it finally is completed. The original Apple battery still charges just fine. Is there a way to calibrate the battery? I have reset the PMU, and tried everything else that I can think of. I called the battery's manufacturer, and they said to run the "Battery Configuration Wizard." Sounds like Windows to me! They told me that it was my computer, not the battery. I'm not sure what else to try.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi there, Robert!
Actually, my battery was from www.mrbattery.com, and it was just a generic battery that is made in China... My guess is that the internals for these cheaper 3rd-party batteries are all from the same manufacturer...
We (My dad and I) did some more testing, and we both concluded that the actual circuit-board in the battery is messed up... There is nothing that I know of that can help this problem from the external side if things: i.e. charging/discharging. What I finally ended up doing, (since my original battery was really dead) was to carefully open up both batteries, and (dad did the soldering:-) unsolder the Apple "smart-board" and resolder it into the 3rd-party one. (after unsoldering the original board in that battery, of course.) You'll have to transfer the actual battery cells to the Apple-style case, because on mine, the buttons and charge LEDs were different, and all that is on the board. I hope all this makes sense!!! You'll also have to be very careful of the circuit board when cutting the case open, as it is right up against the outer plastic.
If you would like, I can send you some detailed instructions of our procedure...
    Hope some of this helps!!!

  • New battery won't charge

Hi, using an alu pbook 1.67 15"
A week or so back I thought my power cable had died. The indicator light stopped coming on. Just before buying a new one, I tried it again and it did start working again, although the battery no longer charged. As it was one of the duff recall replacement batteries I decided to buy a new one (think I've had it too long to complain to apple about bad recall). I inserted the new battery this morning (which turned out not to be a genuine one - thanks ebay seller) and my pbook worked fine off just battery poewr for a few hours.
When it died, I plugged the cable in but this new battery will not charge - status is 0% "battery is not charging". I've reset pram and pmu but still problem exists.
Pbook runs fine on battery alone - could it be that the cable is the cause of the problem - i.e. it works well enough to power but not well enough to charge the battery?

Hi Bgreg, many thanks for your response. I've just tried a different, known to be working adapter and still no charge.
There is prob a good 5mm of play in the power plug at the dc-in socket, so may well be the source of the prob (with this new cable the amber charge light stays constant while wiggling, my old charger flashed dark orange/amber).
I'll get to an apple shop and ask to try a working battery (do they charge for quick favours?) then will look into the dc-in card.
    Thanks again,
    M

If you have all your music on the cmputer then i would connect up my phone uncheck the Sync Music option and apply.
This should take all the music off your phone .Then you can resync the music back on to it.
If this doesn't work maybe a restore to factory settings and start from scratch is the way to go

I'm not too sure. I knew the laptop battery needed replacing so I waited for it to die completely. But the charger light wasn't lighting up like it usually did just before the battery died. I assumed it was because of the battery running out of juice. Should I try another charger and see what happens?

  • I just get the new iPad air and when connecting it to my laptop, why the battery is not charging?

just get the new iPad air and when connecting it to my laptop, why the battery is not charging?

A lot of computers don't provide enough power to their USB ports to charge the iPad at a sufficient rate - it may still be charging slowly, and should be a bit quicker if the iPad's screen is off (if you leave it for a while and then disconnect it from your computer you may find that it's battery percentage has gone up). The wall charger is usually the most efficient way to charge the iPad.

  • Satellite A100- New or Old Battery is not charging

    Hi,
    I have a Satellite A100-543 (PSAARE).
The original battery was not charging so I purchased a new one. Now the new one is not charging either. I then ordered a new charger before coming to this forum so Ill test that when it arrives but I think the problem will not be solved.
With the new Battery the Icon says "10% Usable, connected, charging". The Icon, when the laptop is first switched on, shows the charge bar moving (charging) but after a few moments stops.
With the old Battery the Icon says " connected, charging". It shows empty.
In both cases the Battery Green LED is on.
If I pull out the charger from the laptop the computer stops immediately.
Trawling the forums I see one proposed solution is a BIOS upgrade. I have BIOS version 5.80
    See: http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2006/05/23/toshiba-satellite-a105-battery-charging-problem/comment-page-19/#comment-151154
However I cannot find my model (as above) on Toshiba's list! It was purchased in France and is out of warranty.
Again I am dubious than this will solve the problem.
Others point to the motherboard. How can I know this? If it is does anybody have an idea of cost?
I do hope that someone can help.
    Henry

I'm not going to immediately help but I think I have the same problem on my A200 Equium model 1V0, running Vista.
Existing battery has gone down to 5% power and of course I get warnings so I run on mains but I can run the laptop on the battery for a few minutes.
The charging light comes on for about 9 seconds and then goes out. The charging status changes from "on mains power, charging 5%" to "on mains power, not charging".
It's odd that I can flip the battery out while the mains is attached and when I re-insert it, there's a charging light and charging status is ok for 9 seconds. If I do this often enough I can boost the battery to 10% but then the charging light only flickers on for a moment and there's no further actual charging. I think the main board charging circuit can't handle any more than a small feedback charge.
I bought a new battery - the laptop won't run on this without mains power (in fact the charging light now only appears for a moment and no charging at all takes place).
I uninstalled and re-installed the power ACPI from device manager - no change.
I turned off laptop, removed battery and mains power and held down the power button for 15 seconds - no change.
I checked my mains adapter using a circuit tester - OK.
Oh, and I updated the BIOS to the latest version 2.5 - no change.
It looks like the main board charging circuit has a fault which is uneconomical to repair.
Unless someone out there knows differently??
