New battery, did SMC reset - still not recognizing battery

I have a black 13" macbook - about 4-5 yrs. old. Original battery died and swelled. Got a new battery. Macbook was not recognizing it. Did SMC reset. Solved problem temporarily. For a few days everything worked fine, I charged fully, allowed to drain fully, and used normally. After a few days, X over battery icon, no battery found in system profiler. Did SMC reset again, this time with Option key pressed per a post on this forum. Worked for a few days. Keeps happening. I do the SMC reset, the system works fine for anywhere from a few minutes to a few days, but inevitably the X appears and macbook does not recognize the battery. I have read posts all over the internet of similar problems. Is there a design flaw in the hardware? What is going on, and how do I fix it?

Where did you get the new battery? It seems likely that it's defective. Return it and get another one.

My brand new iPad mini won't rotate done factory reset still not working. If I lock and unlock on landscape or portrait it remains in that mode. Any ideas pretty sure I've tried everything suggested such as off/on, reset, reboot, double checked lock off. It did work and I changed wallpaper and stopped motion, not sure if this related

Reset all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. Your iPad will reboot on its own. You will have to enter all of the device settings again, but no data will be lost.
I eould not spend a whole lot more time trying to fix this, if the device is really brand new. I would take it back to where you bought it, bring the box, the charger, the cable and your receipt and if they can't get it fixed, return it and get another one.

Tried all of the recommended resets and combinations mentioned, but the ipod is still not recognized.  Genius at apple said it may be a hardware error, "The button is broke" but all of the buttons and cords work and i proved it to him. He then said he doesnt know, ma Now what?

If it does not work on other computers then I agree with the Genius

  • Mac Pro 5,1 Fans full throttle, SMC reset does not help

    Hello Community,
    i have the following issue:
    - Mac Pro 5,1
    - Latest Firmware; no SMC update available
    - Fans (of case, not graphics card) running full throttle as soon as OS X is active (installed or in a installation phase).
    - During boot up, fans run at usual speed/silent.
    - SMC reset (according to: Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - Apple Support) does not help the issue, nor did resetting PRAM.
    - Removing mainboard battery did not fix it.
    - Resetting the battery using the onboard switch did not fix it.
    - Detaching components and reattaching them (RAM etc.) did not fix it.
    - Detaching device from Power for a prolongued period did not help.
    - Apple Hardware Test AHT (off the original installer disk shipped with the device) tells everything is healthy.
    - Having clean installed OS X (both:latest releas and also orignal version from original grey installer disks) did not help.
Then: installed MacsFanControl which allows for checking each of the sensors and each of the fans. using them one by one as a control for the fanspeed, which always succeeds: every sensor delivers meaurements, every fan reacts to adjustments of rotational speed.
BUT: As soon as you choose to let the SMC do the job of controlling the fans, fans switch back to full speed again.
All this after having installed VMWare ESX 5.5 on the machine and then having reverted to OS X 10.10.1/2.
Looks highly like SMC won't get properly reset or may some setting is written where SMC reset does not operate?
Any hint would highly be appreciated since i'm not sure whether i should trust this machine which is meant to act as a server.

    Hello Community,
the above phenomenon turned out to be rooted in s.th. completely different & unrelated.
Obviously there is a system's preference for the 1st PCI-E slot for the RAID controller to be connected to.
You actually may well plug the controller into slot 2 and 3 as well, and the system will then still boot, even after having moved the controller to a different PCI-E slot (after having installed the OS!), but always the SMC will react like described above. Still not sure what the aforementioned symptoms actually indicated (jsut "irritated" SMC or SMC flat out inoperable) - time's too scarce to investiate this any deeper, sorry...

  • HT3964 Macbook Pro 8,1 turns on during SMC reset, does not reset

Hi, I'm troubleshooting a friend's Macbook Pro 8,1 - which has faced a number of low-level problems since she dumped juice on the keyboard a few months ago. The biggest problems appear to be SMC related (summarized below).
When trying to do an SMC reset (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964) by holding Shift + Option + Control + Power, and releasing all buttong simultaneously, the computer simply powers on. If I hold all buttons for ~5 seconds, the power LED flashes, then the computer powers on before the buttons are released. From other articles, this process should complete with the computer staying off for the duration - only turning on with a separate power button press afterwards, which makes me think the SMC has not been reset. Any thoughts on how to properly reset the SMC?
Background and list of problems persisting despite attempted SMC resets:
    1. The battery stopped charging ~3 weeks ago. It ran fine until the battery died, then wouldn't turn on. We tried multiple chargers, to no avail. Miraculously, it turned on after being plugged in a few days ago, and has been operating mostly normally since.
    2. Since it came back up, the computer does not sleep automatically when closing the lid, though it does manually sleep.
    3. The battery power LEDs no longer light up when the side button is pressed.

Do you have the power adapter connected when trying to reset the SMC?  That is one of the requirements for resetting the SMC.
If the issue still persists, you might want to take it into a genius bar: http://concierge.apple.com/reservation/us/en/techsupport/

  • I replaced the hard drive to a 30gig on my Ipod 4th gen. click wheel but it is still not recognized on my computer or in itunes......I get an error message with a folder and "!"....what can I do to fix??

I replaced the hard drive to a 30gig on my Ipod 4th gen. click wheel but it is still not recognized on my computer or in itunes......I get an error message with a folder and "!"....what can I do to fix??

Have you recharge the battery for at least 2 hours, or just leave it connected for 4 hours?
(When you replaced the Hardisk, you should also replace the battery.)
Some other iPod SSD sites, says that you may have to format the CF in FAT32, as Mac dont read NTFS drive so if Windows is the 1st PC that your CF is connected, it may be formatted to NTFS.
You can try erasing the CF using Disk Utilty, so that Mac can recognise it. (but not Windows)
    Have a nice day!

  • New Nikon Df camera RAW files not recognized in Bridge and Photoshop.

New Nikon Df camera RAW files not recognized in Bridge and Photoshop.  Is there a fix?  Surely Adobe make a mistake and not keep up with Nikon.

I looked at the current list http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html and did not see the Nikon DF listed.
Would post in ACR forum and see if they know anything more.  http://forums.adobe.com/community/cameraraw

the thing is that when i did the clean install they did check with a hardware test first and nothing was wrong, i guess it was a false-positive, is there anything in the kernel report from which i can say it's either hardware or software related

    HEy Pm
Delete the FB app. It ***** anyway. LOL
Seriously, obviously the FB app is causing havoc on your phone. Delete it.
Then back up your phone to iTunes.
Make sure the FB app is not checked in iTunes so it won't go back on your device.
Restore (as a NEW PHONE) This puts on new firmware and not your corrupted data.
Plug back in to get your data back (except FB)
Re-download FB app from App Store->Updates->Purchases
    Good luck
Have you considered not using FaceBook and not being involved in all that minutiae? Do you really want to know when someone has tied their shoes?
