New battery for Black Macbook A1181

A buddy of mine needs a new battery for his Black 13" Macbook.  The model is A1181.
There are some Anker batteries on Amazon.com for $62.99 with free shipping which seems like a great price.  The only problem is they don't ship to Canada...  So I obviously cannot buy one.
The Apple replacement batteries have terrible reviews and are outrageously price so forget that.
What options do I have?  OWC?  Any recommendations?

And for the cost of a new battery, you could likely get the logic board checked and the defective solder joint fixed.
Good battery story. In an as-new iBook G4 bought online from Apple Store, I returned new batteries under the/then battery replacement program. Mine had no sign of failure or defect. The two new replacements were cycled in use so they were about equal in use.
These are like produce and do not store well if not exercised. Anyway, these replacements failed to retain a useable portion of their battery life cycles in as little as 55, each; no matter the various well-known hoops a user can push their portable and its batteries through.
So, I'm looking at a battery from OWC because there are few other sources as the hardware goes antique on me. And am looking at a SSD for that last-model iBook 12" but doubt the upgrade is worth it. And also have a MacBook 13" coreduo, G4 mini, & others.
{the portable was bought to use while endless repair attempts were made on an iMac under warranty failed to bring it up to servicability and I'd already donated away a nice working Mac on arrival of my first Apple under AppleCare. Sadly, no authorized service in my state at the time existed that could fix it. It's dead, too}
Anyway, you get what you paid for, depending on what you pay for in addition to what you get. Express shipping got the warranty papers in a box the next day, but they forgot to ship the computer, it took a month from Apple since it was sent eventually by slow ground via Canada. The route that broke earlier new Macs.
So the OWC battery looks fairly good, at a distance.
Never did any business with them so far.
Good luck & happy computing!

I bought a new battery for my MacBook today.  I put it into my computer, but when I click on my battery icon it says no battery availble.  I would like to know why?

    Hi....
    Try restarting your Mac ...
"Keep in mind that once the new battery is inserted, you will need to press the power button to start up the computer."
From here > MacBook Pro: How to remove or install the battery
If it restarts ok the battery icon should be available from the status menu bar.

Can I change a new battery for my MacBook Pro 15' Retina? How?

    Hi!
About a month ago, my MBPr 15", mid 2012 (Model Identifier10,1) showed, at first, Battery Service warning and on the next day X over the battery icon with Battery Not Available message in the status. MBP would run only and while the charger was plugged in, plug led would be always green, when connected. Battery test third party sw would not detect the battery, any longer.
Replacing upper case with battery/keyboard/trackpad, as per Apple,  in my country was too expensive, over 1000 USD, did't make any sense to me, so I've chosen DIY option (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLhHSIej9fs) with all necessary precautions like tools, ESD protection grounded pad in place and ordered "new" replacement battery from Hong Kong on Ebay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/400699766989?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STR K%3AMEBIDX%3AIT).
Yesterday I came in new packing/sealed, I installed it, plugged the power cable on, plug led would turn green and then orange, I thought it's ok, but once system booted, I saw again X over battery icon and "Battery Not Available". I checked all the hints on internet, tried several times SMC and EPRON resets, no success. I filed complaint to Ebay supplier, he replied that battery undergone test prior the shipment, but ready for return and refund.
So, I can make another try and buy the battery from Ebay but what if the problem is with my logic board? From one hand charger plug led lights orange when connected to MBP, on another hand System doesn't see the battery at all: No battery in the System info/Hardware/Power. it works absolutely fine when plugged-in to charger. I ran extended AHT (over pressed "D" key while powering on) twice with No Problem in return. So, my question is does it ultimately mean that Logic Board and power circuits are all fine and the whole thing is about "new bad" battery? I there any way to entirely test Logic board and narrow down problem origin?
Thank you for attention in advance,
    Nurlan

can i buy new battery for my macBook pro in egypt ?
and where i find it ? and how much

Here are the International Apple support telephone numbers:

I note Egypt is not listed.
Purchasing a battery from a third party vendor is a high risk proposition.  Many such batteries have been found to be substandard.
I suggest that you try and contact Apple and see if you can have one shipped to you.

  • Where can I buy a new battery for my macbook

Where can I buy a new battery for my macbook

Depending on the build year model configuration
(reference serial number lookup online) you may
have a MacBook w/ built-in battery, or maybe not.
If yours does not have a user-accessible battery
you may want to look into iFixit.com guides to see
what they suggest for your specific MacBook.
And then consider if you are up to the DIY steps
with ability to do the complete service yourself,
or if not, then contact a qualified certified service
center to inquire their estimate for part + labor.
However if your computer does have an easily
replaced battery with external access where
you are essentially looking at the battery, that
is just a matter of identifying the correct Mac
to get a matching part from reputable reseller.
You could probably get a replacement battery
from Apple, if the computer isn't really old...
Or you could look online at places such as
OWC where they offer a few batteries. Just
be sure to avoid the low-end no-name clones
from auction sites or cheap copy imports.

  • HT3964 Installed a new battery for a Macbook 2,1 New battery not charging. Battery symbol shows (Not charging) and replace battery. Green LED on magsafe connection. Disconnection results in an instant shutdown.

I have just installed a new Battery after the old one showed (Not Charging) and when you clicked on this icon the dropdown"condition replace now". Problem now is the computer still shows the same message in the top bar (Not Charging) and the dropdown also shows "condition relace now". the magsafe show the greem LED i.e not charging, but providing power. If you disconnect the magsafe the computer powers off instantly confirming we have power. I have carried out resetting the SMC controller and still no change. Tested the standby voltage on the magsafe pins etc, all in spec. What should I do now, as I don't want to keep spending more and more. Bellow is the info from the system profiler.

    Hi Jay,
It's always better to start a new thread around here than to piggyback. That gets you the help you deserve without diluting the assistance being sought by the original poster. I know certain other forums don't like new threads but they really work here.
That said, I am not seeing many MBP owners using third-party batteries. My "go-to" sources for all parts Mac--Other World Computing--usually carries stuff if it's commonly available. They show no third-party batteries for any Intel Macs. There may be a reason.
Then I checked a place that sold a friend a reliable third-party battery for a G3 Wallstreet. They show batteries for Intel Macs on this page:
    http://www.global-batteries.com/index.php/cPath/1_12
They are not much cheaper than Apple and have the same power specs (i.e., not "hi-capacity').
It's probably a case of "pay money--take chance."

  • New HDD for 2007 Macbook A1181

Folks I have been using my Macbook since it was purchased new.  Operating snow leopard 10.6.8 with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.  The original HDD was getting full with running a lot of the software programs (Photoshop, Aperture, etc).  So I decided to replace the HDD. The following will show everyone that I am totally a rookie to this computer stuff.
I pulled the HDD and placed a 1T 5400 drive.  WD SATA.  The install went like clockwork after backing up the system on a 1T external HD.  Then as most have read I got the ? of death on boot up.  I quickly realized that I could boot up and work off External.  I also booted up off the start up disc and the HDD doesn't show up.  It seems after reading a lot of post's that Apple doesn't like upgrade unless purchasing a new unit is the upgrade.  That is not in my budget at the present point so I turn to the masses to assist me in solving my problem.
If I have to partition the Drive I am game for trying that but can't determine the size 320G or 500G?  The other issue is the upgrade to Lion so that all my other systems can sync via the cloud.  I have no idea how partition a drive so if someone has a link on how to do that operating off the external drive I am all for that as well.  I thank anyone in advance because this computer is partially my livelyhood.
    Blair Darst

    OK. Try this:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
If you have more than one partition then repeat Steps 4-6 for each partition.
If you want more than one partition on the drive, then follow this modification to Step 3:
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to the number of partitions you desire. Use the sizer to change the sizes of each partition to whatever you prefer. If you want equal sized partitions, then you don't need to change anything. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Now, if you want to transfer the system on the external drive to one of the partitions on the newly formatted internal drive do this:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the desired volume on the new internal drive. Source means the external startup drive.

  • Buy new battery for MacBook Pro Mid 2010, and in-store installation?

I need to buy a new battery for my MacBook Pro Mid 2010. I was wondering if there was an Apple store where I can buy a new one and have it installed there. i tried Best Buy and they weren't really any help and suggested to go to an Apple store. However, I don't know if I could have them install right there.

its best to make an appointment at your local Apple store.  If they are busy and you walk in without an appointment, they will turn you away.

I thought that it might be helpful for other users to know that if their brand new Apple Remote is not working, it may be because the CR2032 battery is old. In my case, I had to think why was my new Apple Remote not working:
    1) the battery was old
    2) the Remote was broken
    3) the computer sensor was broken
I am glad that after spending $4.49 cents at the local Ace that as soon as I hit menu, the Apple Remote screen came up on my Mac.
