New battery in Macbook Pro - louder fan.
Hardware Overview:
Model Identifier: MacBookPro 8.1 (2011)
Processor Name: Intel Core i5
Processor Speed: 2.3 GHz
Memory: 4 GB
I had a dead battery in my MacBook Pro replaced two days ago and since using my Mac with the replacement, whether on charge or not, the fans are a lot louder when watching videos or playing games than with the old battery/when the battery was dead.
Is it due to the new battery, the installation or do I need to reset something that I've missed? Thanks.
Have you tried reset the System Management Controller (SMC)?

How long should I charged new battery in MacBook pro?
You can leave it plugged in all the time if you wish.
Once your Macbook is fully charged, it stops charging.
You can see this if you click on your apple logo, about this mac, more info, system report, power.
In any event, it is also a good idea to use your Macbook under it's own power to keep the battery in optimal condition.
As much as possible, try not to fully discharge your battery. It could do more harm than good to your Macbook.
Good luck and enjoy your macbook -
I am having issues with my MacBook Pro's fan running really loud and getting very hot. Can you please help based on the 'Activity Manager' saved file below?

Hi, i want to upgrade my Ram, Hard Disk and Battery of Macbook pro 2010 Model with i7 processor and 15" display.
My current configuration:
Ram: 2GB + 2GB (original with mbp purchase)
Hard Disk: 500 GB (250 GB full)
Battery: Cycles - 669 and Health - 87 % (As show by istat)
New configuration I want:
Ram: 8 Gb best of all (what to do with the previous 2GB + 2GB Ram)
SSD:Minimum 128 Gb ( what to do with previous 500 GBI ignored the (with price) part. Sorry.
Crucial m4 512GB SSD - from Amazon - $389.99.
Crucial m4 256GB SSD - from Amazon - $203.84.
Crucial m4 128GB SSD - from Amazon - $112.87.
Crucial 8GB RAM for 2010 15" MacBook Pro - from Crucial - $47.99.
What to do with your old RAM? Just trash it or label it and put it in an anti-static bag and put it in your 'parts' drawer. Or trash it. Or give it away. It's not worth anything.
Good luck,

Installed New Battery in MacBook Pro--Computer Freezes Twice
Since my MacBook Pro was way past it's warranty, I decided to replace it's depleted battery myself. It wasn't rocket science and it was much cheaper than taking it into Apple and having them fix it for me as I had done so twice in the past (when I was covered under warranty). After I went through the process of removing the depleted battery and replacing it with the new one I got, I ran simple specs on my computer and the battery. The battery is certified new (arrived to me half charged on its first cycle) and matches my MackBook Pro's requirement model and my all of my computer's hardware is functioning as it should. However, since the installation of the new battery, my Mac has froze twice for no apparent reason. The first time it froze was while I was working online (Chrome) with no other applications open. The second time it froze I was running a video via my Mac's storage (file did not exceed 600MB) and nothing else. When it froze the second time, I turned off my Mac and ran the comprehensive hardware check and came up with nothing. I also checked the battery's physical appearance and there's no swelling, leaking, damages to the casing or to the connective wires that run from the battery. So my question is: Could the freezing be due to an undamaged battery that might be a low quality battery, or some other issue?
***My MacBook Pro hasn't had a freezing episode in over a year and it is always kept cool.**Update**
I had another freeze episode just now from picking up my computer...perhaps something is loose internally. Will be re-checking everything and posting results. -
New Battery Installation - Macbook Pro Won't Boot Up
Hi All
I have a 2008 MacBook Pro Core Duo 2.4Ghz, 4GB Ram, Running OSX Lion. Bought a new battery at the Apple Store on Regent Street today, came home and inserted it into my Macbook Pro. The laptop won't start up at all. I have a light on the front and the device turns off if I hold down the power button but doesn't restart other than the light when the power button is pressed again.
Went onto the forums, tried taking the battery out and holding down the power key for 5 seconds to rest the SMC, no luck. Tried Command, Control, Power button, no luck. Have meetings tomorrow with all my data and notes on the machine, it is backed up on a time capsule but am desparate to access tonight. If anyone has any ideas I would be most grateful,
Regards
TimYou will have to restore them to another Mac, TM is not my specialty so I will let another poster take you down that road.
Good luck -
New Battery on MacBook Pro 17 inch
Hi,
I am not sure if I should buy the new MacBook Pro 17" due to the battery. What really happens after 5 (five) years? Do I have to buy a new one Macbook? or Should I buy the one that has a replaceable battery?
Thank UBring it into an Apple Store or maybe an authorized service provider. The cost of the battery replacement service will be the same as the replacement batteries for older Apple portables. It's $179 (US) for the 17".

Buy new battery for MacBook Pro Mid 2010, and in-store installation?
I need to buy a new battery for my MacBook Pro Mid 2010. I was wondering if there was an Apple store where I can buy a new one and have it installed there. i tried Best Buy and they weren't really any help and suggested to go to an Apple store. However, I don't know if I could have them install right there.
its best to make an appointment at your local Apple store. If they are busy and you walk in without an appointment, they will turn you away.

My fan seems to be very active lately and I was wondering if there is any way I can fix it. I copied the process from the activity monitor, it's in norwegian.

I just did it to my macbook pro and pushed out a rather large blob of dust. After you dust out your computer fan, (while the computer is off) go ahead and reset the SMC. (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US).
This should do the trick. If not then try closing any open programs. Chances are, if you have a large amount of startup programs they are pulling a lot of resources from the machine making your CPU very hot making that fan work overtime.
Good luck! -

my new battery is not charging.??... i can only used my "lab top"with help of the power adapter....ANY /HELP ,so i can stop plug in ...mac probook 15in...THANKS
I installed the new one, the MacBook did not recognize it. I thought it needed to charge, but the green light on the power cord came on, so I didn't think that was the problem. In the status bar, the battery shows up with an X in it, and no percentage will display.

Late 2011 Macbook Pro loud fan at 30% cpu usage...
Im new to to MBP (about 2 a month and half now...) and its whisper quiet when idle or in the first hour ive started using it... but after writing papers or surfing for a few hours the fan kicks on and its surprisingly loud! My CPU isnt above 30%, and the case even gets pretty hot. Yesterday I swear it almost burned my lap within an hour of use it was so hot on the bottom!
Ive just never heard of the fan getting this loud or complaints about a hot case from fellow users. So im wondering if this is normal...
Ps. the fan doesnt sound like its rubbing or performing poorly, just at a very high speed. My old custom desktop pc had 8 x 80mm case fans and at time this is almost about the same volume!Project-Oscar wrote:

Mac Notebooks are not meant to be used on your lap. They need to be placed on a flat surface such as a desk to allow for proper ventilation. Also, define "hot" add the iStat widget to your dashboard and report back with what the temps are. Also, MBP's are known to run hot.. -

One of my MacBook Pro's fans is running at full speed
Out of the blue today, my 2011 MacBook Pro started fans went mental when I awoke if from it's sleep. They started running at full speed, far louder than I've ever heard them before. I searched through other discussions and it suggested I try an SMC reset. I performed one of these with no success.
I then opened smcFanControl and noticed that my leftside fan was running at 7000rpm+ and the rightside fan was running at normal speed 2000rpm. It randomly spools on and off high speed and I cannot find any fixes or similar problems online. Can anyone suggest a fix for this or should I be taking it to a repairer?
FYI my logic board was only replaced in April under warranty so could it be faulty?Hi andyBall_uk
SMC fan control measures temp also. Currently running at 47*C as you can see in the screenshot below. I tried overriding the fan speeds...works for the right fan but not the left one so it appears only the left fan has the fault.
The weird thing is, when you press your finger down anywhere on the left speaker next to the built-in keyboard, the fan slows back down to normal speed, but when you let go it speeds back up again. I might open it up in the morning to see if any of the connections are loose, because it seems weird that this happens with a small amount of pressure applied to the body. Also of you tilt the macbook it sometimes slows back down to normal speed (but sometimes stays at high speed). I will let you know how I go. Thanks for your suggestion/s -
After a year of no use and a resulting fully discharged battery, the MacBook Pro refuses to recognize the administrator name and password (both). It has system OS X 10.6 which can not be upgraded without the information. How can I reset or reistall the administrator name and password?
Thanks to all who responded. You are all absolutely correct. However, this Ipad was a gift to my wife who was dying of cancer in the hospital and wanted some entertainment. So I started it out with her Apple ID. After she passed away I moved from Sacramento to Austin and eventually proceeded to get the Apple ID changed from my wife's to mine. Meanwhile when she was in the hospital I opened an Itunes account in my name to buy movies for her. That was the first mistake.
Then during the move to Austin I lost track of the IPAD and later found it and tried to use support but could not remember the proper ID. Later the folks at the Apple store helped me create a new and novel Apple ID that was unfortunately unlike any other.
The botom line is that I am stuck with three Apple IDs and three passwords. I am told by Apple there is nothing they can do about this as IDs cannot be changed or destroyed. I can quit using them or start a new account but when I try to do that the system keeps remembering too many things from the past and resists.
Even if I sold this Ipad and bought a new one, the system memory is still there.
I think the real problem is that destop and laptop computers are totally owned by an individual and that individual can control logins and passwords to his liking. IPADs and similar Apple products are different in that the corporation has built in their own intrusion detection schemes because of the relation to Itunes.
One thing I thought about is to open a new Itunes account pretendding to be a new customer with my regular Apple ID. Perhaps I could do the same with Apple Support.
Thanks for your comments.

HT1446 Battery in Macbook Pro Retina
I have a new, barely used Macbook Pro retina. Although I have barely used it the battery is now very low and although I have plugged it into the mains to recharge it, it will not start up and just shows the battery charging symbol. Is this correct, or should I be able to use it whilst recharging.
You actually explained your problem well - it's just something that I've never seen nor heard of!
You can try both a SMC and a NVRAM reset -> Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) and About NVRAM and PRAM.
Although I'm not sure that will do anything - give it a try and call back.
