New battery installed: now crashing!!

I have a 4 year old macbook pro.
I needed a new battery because I was using the wrong power cord with this macbook.
i was using my 13" plug with my 17" and that caused the battery to need servicing.
so, being its 4 years old, I decided to replace it myself.
I did. and its a beautiful new battery.
unfortunatley.... my computer keeps crashing and I here the power click off -as if i held the power button to shut it down.

i got a report the last time it crashed...

  • Iphone5 new battery installed now blinking apple logo

I purchased and installed a new battery for my iphone 5s.
When I tried to turn it back on, the apple logo now repeatedly flashes on for about 6 seconds, off for 2 sec to a black screen, and repeats indefinitely.
    Ideas?
    Thank you.

its failing to startup, either the phone is broken the battery is defective or you messed up installing it.

Help, new battery fitted, now iphone won't work just either shows apple sign or states connect to itunes, but i cannot....

Who installed the new battery? If you had it done by Apple, take it back in. Something is wrong. If you had it done by a 3rd party, take it back to whoever installed the battery. They broke it.

  • New battery/shutdown/Now replace!

I just replaced my macbook pros battery, harddrive-SSD, and upped the memory.
I had all the work done at a apple support store. I also had the battery replaced on my
girlfriends Macbook pro, same model at the same time. Long story short they have replaced the batteries twice
on both machines. Both times we have calibrated the batteries as told and still get the  alarm " Replace Battery" or " Service Battery".
We have been told defected battery. And now it's happening again. Not only that , but I get random shut downs.
I've noticed the shutdowns are only when the charger is not connected or when I take the charger off. Even though
it reads plently of charge. Battery Charge - 5320 mAh   Battery Capacity - 5471 mAh.
    Running OS 10.6.8
Any ideas? Help. Thank you in advance!

  • Having problems with brand new battery installed...Help please!

Here's my problem. I just recently replaced the battery on my 13" Macbook. The brand new battery ordered from Apple arrived on Saturday and up until last night everything was great. Now all of a sudden the computer is doing the same things it did with the old battery. I am getting the green light on the MagSafe Adapter even though the battery is not fully charged. I am also alternating between "Not Charging" on the battery icon and a "X" on the icon.
I did some reading and tried resetting the PRAM and SMC. I even uninstalled Leopard and reinstalled Tiger (updating everything afterwards), thinking maybe it was a software issue. (I just recently installed Leopard and hoped it was just a bad install.) None of that really seems to work.
There is one slight exception- the SMC reset. After I do the SMC reset I get the amber light from the adapter, the icon shows charging and all is well for about 15 to 30 minutes. Then I am back at square one.
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or ideas on what could be going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

It seems like you have eliminated all the easy fixes for your problem - what is left is the computer itself. Call Apple (800-275-2273) and explain the troubleshooting you have already done. They should set up a repair for your computer. If it is out of warranty you may have to pay for the repair.
    Best of luck.

  • Noticing significant battery loss after brand new battery installed.

Hello, Applecare just gave me a new battery, optical drive, and new screen because of my proction plan on my Feb 2011 MBP. Waited until new battery was fully charged before unplugging to cycle battery. Was I supposed to let it charge 24 hours or something? Is this because of the new operating stystem?

My first impression is that this could very well be normal. When you say "light use", how did you determine this? Is this from subjective self observance, or from an activity trace during the entire actual usage session(s)?
You indicate that upon booting at 100%, you show some 8:53 remaining. This is with the computer presuming that the conditions at the time, and the acuumulated data calculations would indicated that kind of time remaining. Mind you, it has VERY LITTLE data onto which to base this calculation at that point. Only that the system is running, with no application load whatsoever.
By the time the system indicates 85% left (really 80%, with Apple's new battery algorithm), the sytem bnow shows with the usage statistics now avaialble, that if you were to continue using the system under the average conditions for which it has been running, then 3:09 would be the estimated remaining run time.
Mind you, when you read the Activity Monitor trace, Chrome is not active in much of any way (because you are not now browsing). You really have no idea, from your screenshots, just how much Chrome is drawing down power, when it really active (during actual use).

  • Bought new battery..now what do I do?

I just bought a new battery for my MacBook Pro off the Apple website. Do people recommend I do anything special first or do I just charge it up and then use it as normal.
Also, if I work on my laptop is it best to work on it until battery dies, then charge it again..or to use it continuously plugged into AC outlet. Does it make a difference?
    thanks!

That was how you were to use the old nickel-based batteries that are no longer used in laptops. Don't do that with the lithium-based battery you have now. Lithium-ion batteries don't like to be completely emptied every day, you'll shorten it life. Instead use the battery however you need to, and plug it in when a plug is convenient.
Follow the advice in the two posts above me. You can also read the suggestions at the end of this article.

  • MBP Freezes after new battery installed

I have an original MBP, and the replacement battery I got after the recall, wouldn't hold a charge and would shut my computer off by itself while still holding a charge.
The problem is this: I shelled out the $$ for a new battery, but the new battery makes my computer FREEZE forcing me to hard boot it. Every single time with the new battery in, after about 15 or 20 minutes of usage, I have to shut down and reboot.
Any ideas anybody? Thanks in advance!

They sent me a new battery and it does the exact same thing..
I took it to the apple store, the genius told me she couldn't do anything about it and told me to send it in to be diagnosed. :/ I'm going to try to reinstall the whole computer from a time machine backup and see if the new battery works, otherwise... I guess I'll have to return the battery for a refund!

  • New update installed now mac wont start

I installed new update and when the mac restarted all I get is the gray screen with the progress ball.I cant start in safe mode and when I start in single user mode I cant type any commands. It says something about no keyboard kernel dependency and eventdriver has no kernel dependency. I am not all that computer savy and I cant find my boot discs. I think I am screwed and need to buy new os discs.Any help would be great.

If you are having problems at this early a stage in the boot, having this happen after an update is probably coincidental since the OS software hasn't even started loading. Kernel panics are often hardware related, and I would say something happening at this stage is probably indicative of that rather than a software issue.

I'd say you really, really need to find your original disc(s) that came with this computer. The disc contains tools that can help you with determining the problem and with your problem right now there is almost nothing you can do without them other than take it to a costly repair place. If you can't find your discs you can contact Apple Support and have them send you a new set at a nominal cost.
Of course, if this is under warranty I'd go to Apple first!
Incidentally, a lot of KPs at this stage may be related to bad RAM. Some people undertake the analysis and repairs themselves but that is up to you and requires you be able to run tests.
You should not use Leopard's tools to repair the drive on your other computer. Will the other computer even start up in Target Disk Mode to allow you to recover files?
[How to use FireWire target disk mode|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583] includes description of hardware and software requirements.

  • My new iPod has now crashed and is unusable after updating it. Don't update. I just lost the only good thing I have because of them pushing me into it.

My new iPod has been updated. I was pushed into it. So then I thought "it could use one it could improve it". I read as much as the terms and conditions as I could read that was understandable. And now it's been less then two days and my iPod is now practically useless. Don't update your iPod. It was the only good thing I had. I pleded and pleded to my parents for weeks and save up for weeks to get one. And now it's not even a year old and I've lost it. I can't afford to get a new one. And I can't afford to loose this one. i worked hard every day all day For months to be able to even get a quarter of what i needed. And my parents agreed to pay for the rest and it was my Christmas present. i was extremely happy. It's the best thing that I have and I've lost it because of an update Apple pushed me into. Now they won't help me.
my iPod is freezing every 5-10 minutes for long periods of time. It is:
    freezing
the keyboard board is lacking severely
    lags through out ipod
i cannot play games as it lags then freezes.
my screen is pressing where I don't press it.
    it becomes very excruciatingly slow
I Cannot write to fast or it freezes and i have to re start
Im not getting told when I have notifications (such as emails)
i cannot use facebook, games, Safari. Email, messenger and a few others with out my iPod crashing.
i Cannot use the iPod properly at all.
it can take up to 10 minutes for my camera to work. It usually takes 1 minute or more.
the camera freezes or wont take a photo when I press
it freezes on panorama or worn take panoramas.
it has trouble even trying to get the lock screen up.
and best of all of it. I can never tell when I'm going to be screwed by Apple.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • IPod (brand new battery installed) drains while off

I sold my brother my 4th gen iPod color screen (20 GB) a few months back. He complained that the battery would die after being charged fully. Apparently the problem is that he charges it all the way, but while the iPod is off (and on hold), the battery mysteriously drains almost completely. I thought that it was just a problem with the battery, so I bought a 3rd party battery online and he installed it today but he says that the problem is still there. Has anyone on here had similar problems? What can I do to fix this? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

You either have an alarm set in clock or calendar which is causing it to play while you think it is off or you have a logic board short. I'd bet on the latter. You can have it diagnosed at http://www.iresq.com for $9 or Google for other 3rd party repair sites.

  • New version installed,  XP crashes ; Safe Mode not loading

Tried to buy new song, iTunes said had to get latest version. Installed latest version, restarted laptop. Connected online and started iTunes. Store said no internet connection. Went to apple.com to trouble shoot. All looked OK. Shut down teh laptop. Started laptop again later, and screen just went black after Windows tried to load. Tried to restart in safe mode, but that wouldn't start either..... just a list of files flashed by kinda like a DOS mode window, but no prompt ...... just hung there.
    Any ideas beside reloading Windows?

  • New Battery Install

    Hello all!
I just received my replacement battery from Apple today and I'd like to install it and start charging it.
    My question is:
How should I go about doing it for best capacity/quality? Should I install it, let it drain (if it has any juice in it), and then start recharging it?
    or
Should I just simply install it and start recharging it?
Any advice (or links pointing to me some information) would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks much!
    Ted

Charge it fully to 100% without unplugging the MagSafe (fill as much as possible)
Unplug the Magsafe and keep using it until it goes into Emergency Sleep by itself
Let it sit for at least 5 hours, ideally 7-8 (drain as much as possible)
Plug the MagSafe back in and let it charge to 100% without unplugging the power (fill as much as possible)

  • I have an iPod 3rd generations with a really cruddy battery.  What's the cost of getting a new battery installed? Is it worth it or should I save my coins to purchase a newer model?

I am considering possibly upgrading my iPod touch 3rd gen to mini iPad because my touch no longer holds a charge. I only hesitate because I'm comfortable with my touch and am weary of spending so much money of a new device. Is it worth it to just get the battery replaced?

I third-party place like the following is less expensive. Google for more places.
