New Battery Issue

My 3.5 year old MacBook original battery caacity was rapidly diminishing over the past 3-4 months. Was only getting about an 1 3/4 hours max. And it would shut off randomly at 15-20 minutes remaining. I purchased a replacement and after installing, it shows battery health at 82%, and 4616mAh maximum charge. The time remaining also fluctuates very wildly. Will this improve to normal 5600mAh after calibration?

Ron--
Can't be for sure, but I'd be back down to wherever you got that battery and getting a new one as an exchange. That shouldn't be happening on a new battery.
Best of luck--

  • IPhone 4s new battery issue

I've had a brand new battery put into my iPhone 4s and it went from 100% to 5% in about 3 hours while not in use. I've now put it on charge and the battery percentage is increasing but it keeps turning itself off and back on every 5 minutes or so. Just wondering if anyone knew what the issue was and how to fix it?
    Thanks in advance.
edit: just took it off charge for around 20 minutes and it went from 38% to 8% it drops about 5% every time it resets itself.

Just to add to this - I've had the phone on charge overnight for about 11 hours and the battery is at 74% and it's still resetting itself every 5 minutes

  • Brand new battery issue....installed myself, still depleting power quickly

    Good morning everyone.
I have one of the original Ipod Classic 160's. Its been a wonderful item thus far. The battery started losing power a little bit quicker than normal. I probably would only get about 10 hours out of it. Not too bad, but that's on all low settings.
I figured I'd go ahead and take a crack at opening it myself and put in a new battery (side note: you have to be really gifted and have the right tools to not damage the body of the ipod slightly).
The new battery is in. It immediately read only half power, so I plugged it into my home player to charge it. It charged really really quickly. I started playing it, and it started losing a little power quickly as well. I charged it again over night, and on my 40 minute trip to work this morning, it lost a little bit of power.
Obviously, one of my options is that I got a bad battery, BUT...a bad battery is usually a more dynamic problem then just the little discharge its doing. Plus, its discharging almost exactly like my old battery did. So, although Its still a possibility its a bad battery, I've got a theory that maybe there is a hardware or software issue????
That's my main question: Are there hardware and/or software issues that could cause a battery to drain, no matter how good the battery is?
Any other thoughts are welcome too.

I apologize for bumping my own question here, but I figured it would be best to share my experience for others to read.
I am sending this as a buyer beware. If you have the Classic 160, your battery should be 850 mah at minimum. This place I bought replacements from advertised a 550 mah as for the Ipod classic 80/160...not true.
Just an FYI. I know this is a rare situation, but just in case there is that one person that runs in to this. My initial battery from Apple was definitely dying, and it just happened to be coincidence that the new batteries didn't have enough "juice" to run it properly, so I continued to think it was me. 3 batteries later, its sorted.

  • A new iOS update and another new battery issue on the iPhone 5

Has anyone else contacted Apple support and been given te same old "solutions" on the battery issues?
    1) Turn off location services.
    2) Turn off background app updates.
    3) Restore as a new device.
These solutions turn a smartphone into a dumb-phone. I love my iPhone but with every new iOS update, the battery becomes incredibly unreliable.  Has anyone found a solution that does not kill the iPhone's functionality?

You can try a soft-reset of pressing and holding both the home and sleep buttons for 10 to 15 seconds so that it reboots, but you are likely to get the same screen. If it does then it will need to be connected to a computer's iTunes so that it can be reset back to factory defaults - do you have a friend with a computer with iTunes installed on it, or is there an Apple store nearby that you could try going to (if there is then preferably make a Genius Bar appointment at it, or don't go at a busy time) ?
Has she been backing up to the cloud ? If she has then she should be able to restore to that. If not then what she can redownload for free from the stores will show in the Purchased tabs in the store apps.

  • New battery issues

I'm running into issues with a replacement battery for my FW800 PB. It's a high-capacity NewerTech battery purchased from OWC. I'll run through what's happened and what I've done and hopefully someone can give me a little insight into what's going on.
Around the first of the month when the new battery showed up, I shut down the computer, installed the new battery, and left it overnight to charge. The next day, turned it on, checked the sys. profiler and it said I had a little over 5400mAh at full charge. Not bad, but per the instructions I did a calibration cycle. I ran the battery down till the laptop went to sleep (almost 5hrs, again not bad, especially since I was used to the 3 minutes I was getting from the original Apple battery), plugged it in, and left it overnight. Next day I checked the profiler again, but now my full charge capacity was in the 5200's. Hmm. Another calibration, down to the 4900s. Again, down to 4800. At this point I email OWC tech support and they recommend up to 10 calibration cycles to get a true capacity reading. So over the next week or so, more calibrations....4600, 4400, 4100, 3900, 3500, 3200!!! Ok, now I'm mad, so I call NewerTech and I'm not more than 5 words in before the agent on the phone says they'll do an RMA for a new battery. So, new battery arrives Tuesday. Same deal, turn off the laptop, put in the new battery and let it charge overnight. Next morning I have 5200mAh. I was afraid to do it, but I did a calibration anyway, 5200 turned into 4900. Did another, down to 4600. One more last night, and this morning I'm down to 4200! ***? 1000mAh's gone in 3 days? Why?
So I guess my question is are their batteries really that bad, is my PB's power management or power adapter mucking things up, or am I not performing the calibration properly? On one hand I don't wanna complain because ANYTHING is better than the original Apple battery which was beyond dead, but at the same time I don't think any battery should degrade that rapidly. I plan on calling OWC again today, but I'm wondering if I should go through the hassle of doing yet another RMA or just give up and go with Apple. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Input would be appreciated.
    Thanks!!
    G

I would go ahead and talk to OWC, making it plain that you're dismayed by the way these two batteries have behaved. Ask for one that's verifiably from a different production batch, or for a different battery altogether if they carry one. OWC is a good vendor and wants you to be happy. Give them another chance to make that happen, but make it clear that after three strikes they'll be out, and you'll expect a refund.

  • IPhone 5 - New battery issues since 6.1 update

Hello to who will listen,  I have had my iPhone 5 since it's release.  The battery life was never as good as my 4's but I understood this with the new LTE and larger screen it would be expected.  But - I just downloaded the 6.1 update and my battery life is now horrible!  I used to make it through the whole day on a charge but now it's done by 5:00 meaning it's absolutely dead.  I couldn't figure out what was going on until I remembered I did the update on Sunday.  I understand suggesting to shut things off (wifi, LTE, Bluetooth, killing running apps) but these were on before the update without causing me issues.  My wife's iphone 5 doesn't have the update applied and last night it still had a 50% charge left while mine was dead - we each used ours about the same amount of time even.  I believe that Apple needs to issue an update to the 5 owners as well,  This isn't a user issue but an OS issue and how it handles power usage...

Don't let the door hit you in the a** on the way out.

  • New Macbook Air - Possible Battery Issues?

Is it normal for my new 2013 macbook air to lose a tremendous amount of power overnight when it is sleeping? When I put it to sleep at night with over 50% remaining on the battery, the charge is usually about 10% in the morning. Sometimes the device is extrememly warm as well.
I did change the sleep settings so that it does not save the info on my RAM to my SSD and locked the sleep image file to prevent the computer from using it. Is that a possible reason for the battery issues?

I "fixed" it by reverting my sleep settings back to default hibernate mode 3, which means that every time I put the computer to sleep it will save my RAM to the SSD via the sleepimage file.
As of changing that setting back, my Air has been been sleeping properly (I think).
I didn't find a solution where I could prevent the sleepimage file from being created/used every time I put the computer to sleep and still get the Air to sleep properly.
I think what was originally happening was that because I locked the sleepimage file, the computer spent the entire time it was suppose to be sleeping trying to access the sleepimage file - causing an enormous amount of battery drainage over time.

  • TouchSmart tx2-1370us HUGE issues with new battery PLEASE HELP I AM DESPERATE!!!!!

I purchased a new battery for my laptop. I got a LHP-41XT which is supposed to last longer... the following issues I initially thought were because I got a defective battery but I replaced it for another one and they are still happening:
Battery is fully charged. When power cord is disconnected after a random amount of time the computer just dies while the charge does not even get down to 80%. The computer does not even go into the shut down process, it just completely dies.
When trying to turn on the computer with battery it starts to boot up and after a few seconds it completely shuts off. After that no matter how many times I press the bottom to turn it on it just wont even try to turn on. I have to turn it on with the cord.
To try to remediate the problem I have tried and failed the following:
     -  Get a new battery of the same model in case the problem was the battery
     -  Calibrate the battery using every single option there is (changing power profile to "Calibrate," letting the computer discharge completly without using it, letting the computer discharge completly using it, letting the computer discharge completly without using it in while in safe mode) but the computer just keeps on dying.
     -  Change all the power settings so the computer does not hibernate, go into shut down, or does anything when the power levels go down.
     -  Erase completely the battery drives so the computer does not try to detect the battery charge.
     -  Upgraded the computer bios to the latest version
     -  Replaced BIOS battery
Please someone help me I do not know what else to do and I don't want to keep wasting money to try stuff that does not work...

No I haven't and HP seems not to care about the problem so guess what. No more HP's for me anymore....

  • Is this a battery issue or do I need a new ipod?

I have had my Ipod mini since they first came out and use it every day. For the last few months the battery drains constantly every 2 hours so I need to keep it plugged in. Recently it's become as soon as you turn it on it will drain and turn off. Turn it back on it will drain again and turn off.....do this four times in a row it will eventually notice it has a charged battery.
Last night the darn thing turned off completely and will not turn on for anything. I've tried all the trouble shooting tips and now have it plugged into the computer.....dead.
So is this a battery needs to be replaced issue or is it a you need a new ipod issue?
should mention the top where the head set goes in is coming off as well.....over use between work and home.

I was having the same problem and found this link in another thread and followed the directions, removed the battery and when I reassembled my iPOD it worked fine and in fact it indicated a fully charged battery.

  • New Macbook Pro 2011 MAJOR battery issues

I just bought a refurbished Macbook Pro, it was built on a couple of months ago so it is pretty much brand new.
    17 inch.
I'm having some battery issues. Yesterday I noticed that my charger (l-shaped) wouldn't light up -
it also wouldn't charge. After some fiddling around the light came on but in my menubar it read - "Not Charging".
Eventually I reset my smc or whatever it's called and now it is charging -
    but now,
    1) it won't charge to 100.
    2) at 97 percent it shows 7 hours 26 minutes left and then BAM!
it goes right down to about 3 and a half hours. And I'm not running anything but the internet.
    What the heck?!?!?!

You said " it is a problem with ALL current macbook pros. I did take it to an Apple store and the "Genius" confirmed this.".
It seems to me that the problem then should have been rectified at the Apple store and yout post is unnecessary.  If the matter has not been resolved I suggest that you go back to the Genius Bar and have them fix it.  No one here can do so.
Please understand that we are here by our own volition, we are volunteers, we don't get paid, and I would say that we make our best effort to help others based on our respective knowledge bases.  Points are welcome but I suspect thank you's are more so.

  • New Macbook Pro (2010) 15 inch battery issues!!!!

    Hi,
Please help me.I sense a fraud act by the macbook servicing center in my city.
My macbook was bought in 2010 and after having used many times I was said tha the machine was getting heated up due to poor standard of the battery and that the battery needs to be replaced. So here are my questions in points-
1.When I get my battery replaced without warranty,Should I get the Old battery or does the servicing center replaces my battery with a new one and does nt return me my battery.
2.The battery, when i tested through COCONUT BATTERY appliocation shows 89% capacity with 374 cycles, which means its not new.Because in 1 day it cannot be upto 374 cycles.
3.What should be th ideal battery standby time for a new battery of macbook pro.Currently its showing only 3 hours!!!I think its totally unbelievebale.
4.Is there any opther application to check the battery isd new or not??????

Thanks a lot for your info, Glynn. I appreciated much.
Unfortunately, the Apple dealer said that currently there is no this type of mac in their inventory. Therefore they can not do a complete replacement & they referred me to Apple authorized service center. Today, I got more news from this Apple authorized service center & they suggested to return my new macbook pro to the Apple Dealer where I purchased my Mac. After sent Email to Apple, tomorrow they will contact me. Hopefully they will not referred me again to other place...
This is like they sent me back and forth and it's really frustrated. This is the worst experience I ever had in buying computer & I am feel that I paid to much for such low quality product & service.
Sorry Apple, but this is really disappointed me.

  • How do I download from icloud to phone?  Had battery issue and bought new one

How do I download my contacts, apps and all info from iphone to my phone?  I had a battery issue and was told that buying a battery and resetting phone to original state may resolve it.  It seems okay now, but I need to understand how to restore the info that I backed up on last night.  Thanks.

If you want to restore from and iCloud backup you have to go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings.  This will erase the phone.  You then go through the activation screens again and when given the option choose Restore from iCloud Backup (see image below).  (Connect your phone to and external charger and wi-fi as this sometimes takes a while to finish.)

  • HP Envy 13 Battery issues

    Hi
I have an HPEnvy 13 notebook with the battery & slice battery it came with.  I noticed recently that with the battery plugged in and the AC adaptor connected it would say "plugged in, not charging" and it would never power on when using battery only.  I tried this with every combination of main battery, slice and main+slice.
The batteries slowly drained and are now unchargeable in this laptop.  I tested the batteries in my mother's HP envy 13 and both the batteries worked OK.  Neither of her batteries worked in my laptop but they DO in hers.
I've tried resetting the BIOS to defaults, tried hard resets - basically I've tried following all advice on the HP site that I can see to resolve this.  The battery checker says all the batteries need replacing but the battery checker on the other envy says they are OK.
I have just spent £45 buying a brand new battery for this laptop and fresh out of the box, never been used, the HP battery checker says it needs replacing.
I think this is wrong.  I think the laptop is at fault, all evidence suggests the batteries are good and it's only the laptop that's broken.  I've checked all connectors, none are bent and all look clean (no dirt/tarnish buildup).  I've also tried removing & reinstalling the ACPI drivers to no avail.  Windows 7 is fully patched and up to date.  The laptop does not generate any errors that I can see.
Please can someone assist?  It's at the stage now where the notebook is useless as a laptop so I'm considering other options.
    Many thanks

I see your  notebook is not charging the batteries, but the batteries do charge when you install them in your Mom's Envy 13 . You took her battery and installed it  in your Envy 13, but  it did not charge either. You tested the batteries with your Envy and it said to replace them, but when you test the same batteries in your Mom's Envy they tested fine.
Having tested the batteries in this way, rules out the batteries themselves and brings us to the notebook.
