New battery problem

hello, last week i was able to get my orig. MBP battery replaced before applecare ran out (on 10.31). upon putting it in the computer, i noticed the battery status said "not charging." i re-set the SMC, but the error did not go away. i called apple TS, and they had me re-set the PRAM. that made the error go away and it had an 85% charge. i wanted to calibrate the battery, so i charged it up to 100%, then ran it on the battery for 2 hours. it then shut down, with no warning. not sleep, shut down. during the 2 hours, i had wifi on, screen very dim, and did mild surfing and watched a youtube video.
question: 2 hours is not very long for a brand new battery is it? since it shut down w/o warning, does that mean something may be wrong w/ the battery or mac? is there anything i can do, or should i call TS back?
thanks for any help in this.

Hi,
same happened for me today. I installed a new battery yesterday (it showed a capacity of 5450mAh) and to see if everything is ok I wanted to run a full calibration cycle. But today, instead of showing the low battery dialog, my Macbook Pro turned of at 11% after 2,5hours of work on battery power. Also the capacity is now only 5100mAh.
Let's see what happens tomorrow. Overall it is already the fourth battery in this Macbook Pro, but the first that shows this issue after one cycle.

  • Late 2008 Macbook Pro new battery problems

I bought a new battery off of ebay and when I put the battery in the computer the status bar said the battery was at 54% so I completely drained the battery until it would not power on then plugged it in until it was at 100% and continued to charge it for two more hours. So shouldn't it be calibrated by now? I drained it completely again today and now I'm charging it but the status bar says its at 74% but the system settings says its at 94%. I only get about an hour or two off of it is this normal? Is there anything I cant do to improve the battery life? This is the first mac I have ever owned so explain things like I'm five!

You're missing my point. I know that watching movies is more intensive than web browsing and maybe the problem is to do with VLC.
When I watch a movie through quick time I still have an estimated 6h26m remaining with 65% battery left. In comparison when I watch a movie on VLC it showed around 3h left with the same amount of battery left.
Also, I'm not sure if this is to do with VLC or if it was a coincidence, but my CPU was at around 30% (system) and the temperature doubled.

  • Mac book pro new battery problem

Hi, I have got a question regarding a battery life.
I bought my Mcbook pro 13' over three years ago, and it has been working really well until recently. The laptop was running on the original battery all the time, and only recently it has 'flashed' the replace battery icon, after over 600 charges.
I went to apple store and replaced the battery and the charger, as the charger broke at pretty much the same time. Within the month of using the new battery, with cycle charge count of less than 30, the 'replace battery icon' pops up again. I went back to the apple store, and since the battery was less than a month old they have replaced it with a new one free of charge.
Today is my 2nd day on the new battery, it's the third time I am charging it and it's flashing 'replace battery!" I don't know what's wrong! How could a battery break in less than 3 day, where it has not been heavily used at all????
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?
I will try to go back to the store again this week, but it's ridiculous.
I really appreciate any suggestion on what's going on.

Tell them to check out the MagSafe charging circuit, and ports, as well as the cables connecting it all together.
Say you want a FULL diagnostic, as there is something wrong going on here,(possibly something on the logic board, which has just about all the components on it, they don't work at component level, they just change out whole parts"chunks") be polite but firm, and if you do not get a satisfactory answer from the first tech, ask to "escalate" it to the manager.
    Best of luck

  • New battery problem, can anyone help?

    Hello,
I recently brought a new battery for my Macbook and for a couple of weeks it seemed to work fine, however, now it doesn't appear to be charging. At the top right of my screen it just says (Calculating...) and the iStat* lights on the battery won't light up.
    Battery Installed: Yes
    First low level warning: No
    Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 5250
    Remaining Capacity (mAh): 0
    Amperage (mA): 0
    Voltage (mV): 9393
    Cycle Count: 11
Any ideas on what I can do?
    Alex

    Welcome to the forums.
Is the battery an Apple battery or an after market battery? You can try this Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

  • Crazy new battery problem

My phone did something new today. I had a full battery logo all last night and today. I was thinking that was odd since it should be due for charging (I've had it since the day they first went on sale so I'm very familiar with how long I get from a charge). Anyway, shortly after thinking that, while reading a webpage, it all of a sudden it goes dead battery and says connect to charger or something like that. I never got the 20% battery life warning and the battery logo always showed full even though I knew it must have been getting low.
This has never happened, flawless up until now. There was an iTunes update (I believe the day before yesterday) and I synched my phone after that... I'm wondering if there is a glitch with the update? Anyone else experience this?

Hey! I have the same problem, my battery icon its always full and I only get the 10% warning and it dies a couple minutes after that or somethimes I don't get the 10% warning. Have you solved this problem? what did you do? I haven't done the update that you said so it may not be a glittch with it.

  • MacBook goes dead as soon as power cord is unplugged..time for a new battery or other problem?

For months now my MacBook has been iffy with the battery percentage. It will show 2hours then within the next minute 25 min then 10 minutes then it shoots all the way up to 3 hours. Now it won't stay on unless the power cord is plugged in...and says "not charging" at the top of the screen. Am I in need of a new battery? Or is it something else? Have never had this problem before...my MacBook is approximately 3 years old...

You are posting in an iMac forum. I'd recommend re-posting in the MacBook forum.

  • Mid 2009 macbook pro battery is dead and fan is constantly ramped up (not due to heat). Would installing a new battery fix the fan problem?

Battery icon has an "x" over it and I need to have my laptop plugged in to be on. I've ordered a new battery to install, but I was wondering if it's possible that something else might be causing the fan to be on over drive constantly. I've tried resenting the SMC and the PRAM, but nothing has stopped the fans from running at higher than normal speeds.

If you've updated to Mavericks, you'll either need to use the original install DVD containing the AHT, or download the right one from Apple's servers, then replace the hidden /System/Library/CoreServices.diagnostics   folder.
I think that replacing the battery is likely to stop the fan problem anyway.

  • I refurbished my macbook air 7 months ago because there was a problem with the steady state drive. Now my battery seems to be dead again. How long does the warranty last? Do I need to pay for a new battery?

As I wrote Apple will diagnose an Apple product even if it is out of warranty for free. That should be your first step to find out if the problem is the battery or something else.
Once you have Apple telling you a 7 month old battery is defective (if that turns out to be the case)  then it becomes a game of horse trading. You'll need to speak to the tech and when he tells you there is nothing he can do you will need to speak to the tech manager and when she says most likely there is nothing they can do you go to the store manager, etc.  It is unlikely (though possible) that they will give in easily you need to be firm, polite and let on that you're willing to accept a partial reimbursement.
So again the first step is to find out what is wrong.
    good luck

Try resetting the PRAM and SMC.

Apple representatives don't respond to anyone in this forum. It's just user-to-user. Go here to check support options (going to Apple store, calling Apple support, etc.): https://getsupport.apple.com/ProductSelector.action

  • Do I need a new battery or is there another problem?

I bought my Macbook Pro in 2006 and haven't had any problems until recently. My battery doesn't hold a charge very long when my computer isn't plugged in. I calibrated it a couple times and now after a couple hours the computer just turns off and is extremely hot underneath. I don't know what's going on. Do I need a new battery or is there another problem? Here's some info I pulled up about it:
    Battery Information:
    Battery Installed: Yes
    First low level warning: No
    Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 410
    Remaining Capacity (mAh): 77
    Amperage (mA): 308
    Voltage (mV): 12604
    Cycle Count: 63

    MissArtist32,
the figures you provide indicate that your battery is so close to completely dead that it is a wonder that it will run your computer at all. A Full Charge Capacity of 410mAh is less than a tenth of what it was when new.
The fact that you have only completed 63 cycles in more than three years probably explains why. Even with normal use 3 years is quite a good "lifespan", but Lithium Ion batteries need regular use to prevent deterioration. Most batteries of this age will have been through at least a couple of hundred "cycles".
Once you get a new battery try to let it get through at least one discharge / charge cycle every week. The best way to do this is to use it for brief periods of time off the charger ever day or so, rather than charging it right up and draining it right down.
But one thing is for sure. Your battery is in very , very poor condition indeed. Time to buy a new one.
    Cheers

  • Battery suddenly fails, new battery sees similar problem

A few weeks ago, my battery randomly dies. Went from getting a 4 hour charge to none, it would shut off as soon as I unplugged it. HP Support Assistant said I needed a new battery, with the error code of REEOW. So I purchased a brand new one, and it seemed to fix the problem. However, I started to realize it was only partially fixed...now, my laptop suddenly dies after short use. It will say 55% remaining battery left, according to the indicator, before just randomly dying. Plugging it back in, it suddenly says 0% remaining. Now, HP Support Assistant says once again I need a new battery, same error code of REEOW. I've only had this battery for two weeks. What the heck is going on?

    Anybody?

  • Iphone 5 battery drains rapidly, I have turned off apps and location even purchased a new battery, is anyone else having this problem?

Iphone 5 battery drains rapidly, I have turned off apps and location even purchased a new battery, is anyone else having this problem? If anyone knows how to fix please let me know. I've tried the hard reset and nothing works.

There was a run of bad batteries for the iPhone 5. Apple will replace them if your phone qualifies and you haven't tried to fix it yourself. See: iPhone 5 Battery Replacement Program - Apple Support. Unfortunately, you may have disqualified yourself if you tried to repair it yourself.
However, rapid battery drain is only rarely caused by a bad battery. A bad battery is usually diagnosed by a battery percentage that jumps randomly. See this for advice: http://www.overthought.org/blog/2014/the-ultimate-guide-to-solving-ios-battery-d rain

  • New iBook Battery Problems

    Hello!
I have a problem with my 3 month old iBook. It seems that whenever its hits 50% battery status it turns off (not sleep, but turns off). Because it turns off at 50% I cannot calibrate the battery because it will not drain any further.
Is something wrong or am i being thick? Am I allowed to claim a new battery since the ibook is only 3 months old?
    Many thanks,
    palmerar

Your iBook is still under warranty so i think you should contact Apple and inform them of this. Applecare have sorted out all of my problems (iBook battery, iPod headphones) with a minimum of fuss.

  • Tc1100 new battery 4000mAh problem

    Hi
I have two compaq TC1100 computers and a new 4000 mAh battery but, I can not power on any of the computers with the new battery switch.
The battery is fully charged but when I unplug the power cord and try to turn the computers with the new battery, neither does power on.
The battery is a replacement for models compatible with computers and I have dealt with two new 4000 mAh batteries from the same provider.
There is a problem to use a 4000 mAh battery with TC1100 compaq computers?.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Just want to add something here. As I mentioned, last night I permitted the machine to issue an "imminent shutdown" warning before I let it shut down off battery power. But notice that in the system info, it does not acknowledge issuing a "Low Level Warning" - that's wrong.
I've also done a reset of the SMU in the last few minutes - where you shut down, remove the battery and then hold down the power button for 5 seconds... I'm heading out for an hour or so now... we'll see how things look when I return...
