New BIOS (v2.1) for MSI Neo Plat 7030

I noticed that there are some fairly new BIOS versions available for the MSI Neo Platinum v1.0 (7030).
I'm currently on BIOS version v1.7 and that's been stable.
Has anyone tried version v2.1 ?
I've heard bad things about v1.8 so  I'm not messing with that.

it is for me
i only updated BIOS when i was trying out some overclocking, and it gave me some better results, than when i was with BIOS 1.4, which i had used for a year previously with no issues
if you don't need to update BIOS, then you don't need to update BIOS; its not like updating a driver
BIOS flashing stupid or not??

  • Just bought SATA2 250GB WD HD for MSI Neo Plat ver 1 (7030).

I just bought a SATA2 250GB Western Digital HD for my MSI Neo Plat ver 1 (7030).
I'm currenlty using the 1.7 BIOS.
I've always used IDE up to this point.
I haven't yet installed my new drive but I'm a little nervous.
Are there any gotchas waiting for me?
What I want to do is copy my partitions from my old IDE HD to my new SATA2 HD.
Something tells me that this is not going to go so smoothly - don't ask me why, it's gut feeling
I predict BSOD when I try to boot from my new HD.
Any advice from people who have done this using the MSI Neo Platinum 1 ?
Can you have both IDE and SATA drives connected at the same time so that I can do a partition copy?
I think that MSI Neo Plat 1 is only rated do SATA1 so I'm not sure how it'll behave with my SATA2 drive
I'm a pessimist by nature, however, my "gut" instints are normally correct

I don´t have the same MoBo as you, so there might be some differences which I´m not aware of, but basically you could install the Sata drive as new bootdrive with OS and keep the old Pata HDD as backup drive.
The Sata installation (not raid) is just like a Pata installation except for other cables and MoBo connectors/IF.
To avoid confusion, disconnect the power from the old HDD and just keep the new Sata drive as the only drive while formatting / installation OS.
You will only benefit native Sata1 performance, but that almost the same as Sata2 so no big deal ( only the theoretically performance is twice as good ).
I don´t think there´s no need to change any backward Sata1-2 jumpers on the WD drive, but if I´m wrong there should be such a jumper that limits the performance to Sata1 - You could check at WD website.
After you´ve reconnected the old HDD - Go into bios ( probably "Advanced" menu ) and set " HDD Boot drive" order ( or called simular ), check and set WD as bootdrive.( don´t mix up HDD boot order with the general Floppy/CD/HDD bootorder).
Now you still have all your files intact on the old HDD and if you want to, you could ofcourse transfer them to the new drive as well.
( You will need to reinstall some programs on the new HDD, that does not work anylonger on the old HDD, but all files are intact)

  • Severe Problems with BIOS v1.9 for K8N Neo Platinum (7030)

I updated to the new BIOS and nothing but crashes, so I tried to go back to 1.7, because everything was working fine with 1.7 and now, the BIOS is asking for a password, and I never setup a password in the BIOS. What the heck, now I have a $1000 (US) paper weight, thanks alot for the buggy BIOS update, now you can send me a new motherboard!!!
**Edit** Well I found a work around, went back to BIOS 1.5 for now until I can get 1.7 to work again, 1.8 and 1.9 are screwed up beyond belief, you can't set any overclocking features, RAM timings are messed, there is no choice for 1T/2T, currently I'm running at SPD on the DRAM and stock on all the CPU functions. I would really like if someone could test these BIOS versions before putting them up so stupid people like me update them. Also, leaving more choices than one BIOS update in MSI LiveUpdate would be nice, because flashing via the floppy drive is a pain in the butt, lucky I have an extra computer to use.**End Edit**

Do a floppy drive flash with the correct switches.  Go back to the last bios that worked properly or try Pinochio's bios which a lot of people like.  Liveupdate will mess up your bios.  So can winflash if you do not use it correctly.

After you have read about it, do this using the correct flash utilty file name and the correct  bios file name
"DOS floppy flash shall be performed with :
    awfl833d.exe w7030nms.180 /py /sn /wb /cc /cd /cp /f /e
(Replace biosfilename with appropriate version for Neo1/neo2 etc , switches remain the same )
    After flash is complete :
TURN OFF PSU (don't restart) wait 15 seconds
Turn on again , press the power button .
Enter BIOS and load optimized defaults (NO OTHER CHANGES) , save + exit
Boot the system again with the floppy in the drive to let the DMI pool build and update itself .
    Good luck.

Best BIOS setting for MSI K8N Plat + AMD 3000+ Venice + Geil Value RAM

If you want SSE3 support and you do not overclock, Bios 1.4 is the only one officially available (1.41beta is not official).
Try to upgrade to 1.4 and see it for yourself, do the upgrade with floppy in DOS so that you can save your old Bios.
I would rather wait till mid June when a less troublesome new bios is suppose to be availabe for NEO4 MBs.

  • Msi Neo Plat & A64 3000

    Hi guys
Well finally after a few months of waiting ive got rid of my stock A64 cooler and had chance to fiidle with some overclocking i really would like some advise on my recent overclcock perhaps some of you guys know where i might be able to tweak my system alittle bit here's the details
    System
    A64 3000+
    MSI Neo Plat
    2 X 512mb Crucial Ballistix PC4000
    Radeon x800 pro Vivo
    Hiper 450w PSU
    60gig seagate IDE HDD
    80gig seagate SATA HDD
    Cooling
    Thermalright SLK-978u
    Artic Cooling rev4
so far i have reached this
    FSB 235 x 10 @ 1.65v mem @ 2.5,3,3,10 @ 1.70v
    temps are around 39
    3DMark 2001 = 23766
    3DMark 2003 = Havent try'd yet :p
So are my mem timings good ive try'd higher FSB but couldn't seem to get it without upping my volts,  im thinking that it might be my memory settings holding me back but not really sure
    Cheers for reading
    craig

Second double sided dimm in the 7030's seem to really give it headaches.  WILL NOT run @ 1:1 no matter what I do.  Automatically defaults it to 166 divider no matter what slots or bios settings I try.  I managed to get them to run @ 200 by OC'ing to 240fsb but even then I had to use way worse timings than they would do by themselves.  OCZ is the only manufacturer I have found that makes a 1 Gig stick that runs at the same timings as their 512 Mb sticks.  When I get one of those babies I'll really be able to see what this thing will do @ 1:1.  Probaly only get to 220 or so with pc3200 but doing it @ 1:1 with good timings will be sweet!

  • Great DOT improvement using Bios 3.6 for 865PE Neo-2 P series

Great DOT improvement of Bios 3.6O for 865PE Neo-2 P series.
Thanks to NovJoe and everybody in the following thread (especially iliveonhope)
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?sid=&postid=277300#post277300
The DOT is kind like straight forward approach by reaching the preset DOT on the bios after booting and during aplication for less then 2 second, the old bios is gradually increasing almost 1 minute or more.
Also the FSB reading on CC is function well not randomly change as on the last Bios.
The Autooverclocking value using CC if not change by default is always shown the maximum FSB.
The weaknesess is still the default value using 'save' on CC  that not performing well (its better to have user define FSB value) and also the DOT range could be much higher then the Commander so I can set certain FSB value to max FSB value. (Waiting for the next improvement from the MSI Software Team).
It will work fine for anybody who use FSB:DRAM Feq. = 1:1 using DDR greater then 400
Interesting thing about this DOT method is it always back on the lowest FSB during stand-by, for me its great hardware saving (It will be great if the FSB stays on the user define setting).
Regarding the CPU temperatue is a little bit lower compared with the 865PE Neo-2 S series using the same Heat sink type.
Its worth to try except it cannot reach the maximum OCing due to the DOT rank limitation.

    clausman,
What bios version do you used ? is already version 3.6
If you are using Bios 3.60 try to run PC mark 2002 or other benching software (if you have it), you will note that when the benchmark starting the FSB will raise and then after you stop it in the middle or end the FSB will go back to the lowest FSB (Do it by showing the CC beside the PC mark.
    Please let me know.

    BIOS Recovery Feature
    For AMI BIOS
       1. Rename the desired AMI BIOS file to AMIBOOT.ROM and save it on a floppy disk. e.g. Rename A569MS23.ROM to AMIBOOT.ROM

    Hi all,
Which BIOS settings would you recommend for this combination:

    Hi everyone,
Suddenly for 4 days ago my pc wouldn't boot up when I pressed the on button(infront). So I toggled the on&off button on my psu and after a few tries my pc booted up. So in the next few days I did the same thing. Weird I tought, since I haven't done anything with my PC.
And when I would turn off my pc it wouldn't shutdown properly, it just stod there after windows was shutdown, still it would just be running.
So today I had enough and checked inside the pc. I found the Power switch cable was disconnected from JFP1 , no problem, i'll just plugg it back I thought...
Then again I tried both sides and tried booting with the button & on&off on PSU, didn't help.
It only started up(with on&off with psu), all fans were running and light from gfx card, but it didn't get any signals from monitor nor would cd-rom eject. So it was on, but not booting up to windows or bios...
Also looking at my manual I noticed I'm missing the POWER LED cable in JFP1. I've searched high and low, only found 3-pin POWER LED in JFP2.
Where is this missing Power led with 2 pins ? Is this cable important?
    Is my psu dieing?
Can anyone help this gal in desperate need of help?

MIST PSUs is manufactured specially by a reputated PSU manufacturer to a dedicated entusiast shop in norway aimed to silent computing among other things .
MIST as a brand is dedicated to silence .
They have also come out with CPU-coolers , watercooling , case fans , etc in the MIST line .
Theese PSUs are well known by overclockers and people wanting sileced products and is top of the line .
The previous MIST psus were based on FSP/CWT PSUs and MIST where modified silenced models and thourougly tested exclusively for microplex.
With their new one there have been some secrecy from them about who they have been working with to manufature the current sample .
The shop has now had a deeper role in setting demands of the products and specs and component choice of the psu to be produced together with the manufacurer.
It's said that the latest one has been under development over almost one year , and microplex has rejected several
samples before they got it like they intended .
(i have a hunch that it's the danish chill-innovation they have worked toghether with)
This new one is a atx 2.01 based one with two indipendent +12v rails each at 18A , -36A of +12v , and it's efficiancy is very high over the whole specter.
    Max. @ +3.3V and +5V together is 275W.
    Max. @ +12V1 and +12V2 together is 380W.
Max. @ all outputs together is 500W .

  • New BIOS v1.9 for Neo4 Patinum fixes USB 2.0 problems

The biggest ever (look at the filesize of the bios) BIOS for K8N Neo4 Platinum has been released today. Having in mind how dodgy the previous v1.8 was all they say is "Improve compatilbility problem with some USB 2.0 devices". Well I am with v1.6 and I have problem with Smart CPU target - it does nothing - at 40c CPU fan is running at full speed well below 40c. Sometimes when the mobo decides it starts at half speed, goes to full when CPU temp over 40C, but when CPU temp goes back to 37C it still runs the CPU fan at full speed.
TIRED OF FLASHING. MSI FIX ONE THING, RUINS ANOTHER.AND SO ON AND SO ON AND SO ON..................................... ....................

Well I did have some problems with USB 2.0 External drives so my mother board came with BIOS V1.6 I Jumped and upgraded the Bios to V1.9 and men this has been a circus of problems from Unstable to weird Raid messages but the biggest problem is that the system wont turn off the PC or restart????   from wondow the monitor goes black and the pc keeps working???, I did everything posible in the world to fix this problem and nothing
I hope MSI fix this problem there is a lot of people having the same problem this is my first MSI MB and happens when you change from  ASUS or ABIT :( crap!
There is something really disturbing if yo go to the main MSI Computer website -> USA the bios goes from V1.5 to v1.8 and if you go to the msi.com.tw they have V1.6 to v1.9???  it will be good that those guys from MSI have the same thing in both places for the same NEO4 platinum MB???
