New Blackberry World Store Front

My Playbook is still showing the Blackberry App World app and not the "NEW" Blackberry World App? Does anyone know if an update is coming for the Playbook? I want to be able to access the "New" Blackberry Store Front on my Playbook which is currently only possible through the browser.

This would require the PlayBook app to be upgraded. I am not sure what you expect to see different on the PlayBook version of AppWorld anyhow...

BlackBerry World Store Setup problems

Hi all,
When setting up the BB world store, I could not do the 3rd step of System Check, which was 'Upgrade your Software', as there was no button there to click. Hence I could not go to the 'Terms and Conditions' section as the 'next' button was greyed out. The previous 2 steps 'Get the BB world Browswer plug-in' and 'Connect your smartphone' were fine. I am stuck on that page.
Why is this happening and how do I fix it?

With your BB not connected to your PC, please try this sequence on the BB:
1) Remove AppWorld from your BB
KB10040 How to view or remove installed applications on a BlackBerry smartphone
If it requests that you reboot the BB, do so
2) Do a Batt-Pull reboot (power on, remove battery, wait, insert battery, wait), even if redundant to the one you did in step 1.
3) Install (on your BB) a fresh copy of AppWorld
http://blackberry.com/appworld/download
Again, if it requests to reboot, do so.
4) Do another Batt-Pull reboot
5) See if it now works.

Access to BlackBerry World store of US while being outside US

I was wondering why the access to blackberry world is determined by which mobile carrier I'm currently using my phone with.
Correct me if I'm wrong, If someone from the US for expample is out of the US and is using a sim card from the local carrier in the country that he is currently living in, he cannot access the BlackBerry world of the US, instead, he will gain access to the BlackBerry World of the country which he is currently living in.
I think that Android also has the same concept with their users' ID's, which I see as very annoying compared to Apple, which gives you the opportunity to have your user profile linked to your country's AppStore by entering a valid address and a payment method relating to your country or issued from your country.
Apple also gives the opportunity to the user to choose (No Payment) option and enjoy using and downloading all free apps, which is a very good option, and is currently available on BlackBerry and Android as well.
I really Hope if BlackBerry can follow the same approach of Apple with while creating or editing the BlackBerry ID, in order to have the BlackBerry ID as "Country determined" and NOT to be as "Mobile Carrier determined" as the case is now. I hope also if you do so to keep the same flexibility (as now) of not obligating the user to enter a payment method while creating or editing a BlackBerry ID.
I think that if BlackBerry considers and implements this, it will give a big push to its users and the traffic flow on he BlackBerry World for downloading and buying apps, movies, music,...etc, as it allow for example US users US to access the BB world of US while being outside US for a trip or work. The same will apply for other users from any country around the wold.
So, I hope that BlackBerry will provide this flexibility as provided by Apple (and maybe a better one). Please consider this seriously and keep moving ahead.

Currently BlackBerry World will take the localization settings from the APN settings on your micro SIM card.
If this does change in the future, I would suggest checking for updates at www.blackberry.com/appworld

BlackBerry World not accepting VISA card -- follow up to my previous post

Re purchase of an app for new Z10 -- main software all successfully updated to most recent. Well, I posted last time about being escalated up through the ranks of BlackBerry software helpers from Bell, and after several levels getting a very easy-to-communicate-with woman from BlackBerry in Halifax, NS...
She told me Bell would bill me for the apps on my carrier bill, and I told her No, they told me they didn't do that, not in Victoria BC my home town, anyhow. I asked her to call and contact them... she said she did, and said Yes, they would. So I set that up on my BlackBerry World sign-in page using my computer, under her guidance, and it seemed to be set up. I even purchased an app that way successfully, afterwards... [She told me at the time that yes, there was a problem with the tool that handles VISA payments, sometimes...]
BUT, several days later when I went to do the same thing again with another app, well, I had a message in red on my purchase screen on my Z10 that carrier purchase was not available!
Ahem.
So, I tried purchasing via VISA again [read my previous post, I called VISA, tried to see if there was something wrong there, no there wasn't]. No form of my re-entering my VISA card or editing it etc. would work.
So I tried PayPal, over the past weekend I established a PayPal account to be paid for via my same VISA card, that took some doing as the procedure is not that clear on their website and you have to explore the sections under "my money" etc. to see just what is going on with it... without any warning or info from either BlackBerry or PayPal the account wouldn't work [refused several tries to purchase an app] until a special method for BlackBerry was posted in that "my money" section on PayPal, they call it a prepayment account or something like that, it takes about an hour or two on a Sunday for that to appear for a new account, and then [I was doing this via my computer after signing in to PayPal] I saw a side message that this purchasing procedure would not work until August 12th.
Today, August 12th, I just purchased a trial app, Medieval Ringtones, and that went through! Unfortunately I was on just our own house WiFi [good signal, I thought at the time, though], and just before it got installed something said "network problem" and it stopped installing. Now I can't buy it again either, I'll try later just to see if it reloads -- it wouldn't reload to the purchase point. I don't really care, it was an experiment. I just downloaded a free app, Top 500 Ringtones, from BlackBerry World, and that went smoothly and seems great, lots of choices, most of them free as far as I can tell.
Warning to users: I would establish the PayPal account via BlackBerry World's own access point on the computer, first, through the BlackBerry World website, clicking on their PayPal symbol, before trying to purchase via PayPal, as establishing a PayPal account first, independently, may lead to confusion if you establish it outside of BlackBerry World.
Now, I have noticed the work-around posted by a BlackBerry Forum guru here on using a dummy VISA account, this helpful person provides a list. WOULD THIS HELPFUL PERSON PLEASE EXPLAIN THE PROCEDURE IN DETAIL? i WOULD HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO DO IT IN PRACTICE -- APPARENTLY THE SOFTWARE WILL STILL CHARGE THE APP TO ONE'S REGISTERED VISA??? PLEASE GIVE DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS.
If I can, indeed, purchase something via PayPal, or ultimately, indeed with a VISA payment, without a glitch [I'll keep trying] I'll report it here. Meanwhile all the apps I've downloaded from BlackBerry World have been free ones, except for the one that mistakenly got sold to me via Bell billing me for it [which they won't] a few days ago [either Bell or BB got stuck with the $1.99 or something for that!]. The free ones I've downloaded have been excellent, including this Top 500 Ringtones, just the kind I was looking for, lots of real telephone and cell phone ring sounds for a purist like me...
But I hope BlackBerry can fix up the glitch in BlackBerry World soon, it shouldn't be there at all... my husband has the theory the facility is staffed by too small a core of software people to keep up with the problems and wasn't properly tested, or else it was subcontracted out and they are stuck with it until they get a new one -- come on, BlackBerry, get a new BlackBerry World payment procedure that works smoothly, us BlackBerry fans are anxious about you!!!

Just to say there ARE lots of Apps on BlackBerry World, so potential BB purchasers should not let that stop them, and some very good free ones, excellent -- BlackBerry Travel is really good, and OsmAnd maps are fabulous, big to download, but when you get it you'll be amazed. Just download a provincial or smaller map to start, because they are huge files and very detailed, but lots of trails and paths are on them... good for park trails and such.

Help. Folders won't keep after Blackberry World Update July 18

I have a Z10 running OS 10.1.0.1720, Software version 10.1.0.273. I updated to the latest version of Blackberry World and received an error message and couldn't install it. I tried it again and if installed, only this time all my folders on the homescreen and other screens are all gone.
After spending a hour or so setting everything back up last night, they're gone again. Only this time it happened differently, I started up my Globe and Mail app and it wouldn't load up the articles. I then tried the Canadian Newsreader app and it couldn't connect. So I restarted and all my folders disappeared. I hard rebooted after that (held onto the button on the top until the blue blackberry logo showed up) and they're still gone.
This is a royal PITA and wouldn't have upgraded to the new Blackberry World if that was the case. Help! Is there a resolution to this?
Also, my skyps video never worked on my Z10, but it has worked on others. Don't know why. Help x 2.

Can't seem to open my world on blackberry app to enable me to create a new blackberry ID!

I have been struggling for days now, surfed the web and I just can't seem to find any answers for my problem! I don't know could it be my software that needs to be updated or what the exact problem is. I download app world with ease but the moment I want to go in it tells me that I need to update a blackberry identity. It then asks me : install now? If I say yes , it just throws me the same page and then it says blackberry identity failed. I can't even go onto the screen which says create new blackberry ID! Neither is there a option by my options>blackberry ID ! So I am really clued up! If anybody has the same problem and know how to resolve it .. Please help!!!

New OS and Blackberry World

BlackBerry World claims to have new software and that we cant use BlackBerry World after April 3rd, today is 2nd, without the OS update. But BlackBerry World thing won't launch for people with the new OS. Is it idioticly broken? Or are we not supposed to launch UNTIL April 4? Recap: new OS, on PlayBook, BlackBerry World new thing won't launch. BlackBerry World itself still works fine with the new OS. When press launch button it says error in your PURCHASE that you aren't making. Sends you to Knowledge Base which instructs you in how to download software updates. On the machine that HAS the current OS. 2.1.0.1917. If April 4th arrives and I am shut out of BlackBerry World I am going to be very angry. As will a great many other people.

i am unable to get the latest update also, maybe they took it off to fix an issue

Create a new store front (istore)

We have a requirement to create a new store front.
Similar to previous one. We have two types of OU(Operating unit) say X,Y
We have to create a new store front which has all the features of the previously created store front.
We also need to attach a catalog.
Since I am new to Oracle apps (istore) kindly let me know what should be done to create a similar istore "STORE FRONT"

For drastic style changes, modify the jsp code. The iStore R12 front page is located at ibeCZzpHome.jsp. There are mutliple .jsp files that make up what iStore calls bins, including ibeCAcdWelcome.jsp for the right bin. You can change the master stylesheets, but will have to modify each bin individually.
The style sheets to modify are:
ibeCStyleSheet.css
jtfucss.css
To help you locate the appropriate .jsp file, iStore uses html comments in the source file of ibeCZzpHome.jsp. View the rendered source (view source from a web browser) on this page to find the comments like "<!-- $Header: ibeCCtdMenu.jsp...". Use these headers to identify specific file that you want to edit.

Server down after updating the Blackberry World App Store

Hi there,
hopefully u can help me. For two days, after upgrating the Blackberry World App i'm not able to acces the following:
- internet
- no more push up emails
- BBM, Whatsapp, Windowslive Messenger, Facebook
- email settings ( is giving me the following error " Your device had a problem connecting to the server"
While i was upgrading the latest version of Blackberry World Application, was wasking me to update my Blackberry ID so i did it and after that all the problems came up. Looks like my blackberry server is down, can't acces anything. I contacted the carrier , they checked and said is it from aplication i have updated. They suggested me to delete the application which gives the problem. I deleted the files of Blackberry World App , but still the module is it in my mobile and can't be acces even when i tried to reinstall it.
I don't know if this can help, but i have noticed that BIS is like disconnected while EDGE signal is there. Sometimes "EDGE" changes into "edges" ( small letters ) and GSM.
The carrier sent me again the service books, but i still have troubles ... nothing at all changed !
The following Services Status is there:

Its clearly the ios 6 update...I have a 2 month old 4s...worked perfectly until the upgrade...now my app store rarely opens...other apps crash or will not load..battery life is now weak weak weak..
The thing that TRULY amazes me is that I was on the phone with an apple tech yesterday,actually 2 different techs, when I said that there are several users on this site with the same problem their response was "first Ive heard of it !"

"Top Albums" profiled in BlackBerry World on Z10

I have no other means to contact BlackBerry on this matter, so I have to resort to posting on this forum.
It's sad for me to have to do this, because I'd rather be "discrete" about it, but I think this matter is important enough that I'll just post here.
I would like to challenge the BlackBerry World management on how the "Top Albums" shown on the front-page of the BlackBerry World app in BB10 and on the BlackBerry World home page are determined.
Currently, on my BlackBerry Z10, when I launch BlackBerry World, 5 of the 8 "top albums" are of the sort that would never EVER get high profile placement on either Apple iTunes or Google Play... on BlackBerry World, they are compilation albums of songs NOT performed by the original well-known artists. These are sound alikes but they are not nearly as good as original recordings by the original artists, and yet the cost of the albums rivals that of compilations that ARE licensed original recordings by the original artists on competitive online music stores.
I'm sure there is a market for these types of albums, but I have to call BlackBerry World "management' on the carpet for a few points:
1) These albums are NOT clearly identified as NOT being the original artists: people may be purchasing these without understanding that, and that kind of misrepresentation is beneath BlackBerry.
2) There is no description of the recording, beyond the name of the track, where the standard practice on competitive services is to list for every single track with the track title AND the artist.
3) The sound quality is perfect digital clarity, but they actual recordings border on "novelty songs" in their efforts to sound alike the original vocalists, or in their LACK of effort to do so. They are, in a word, "lame". I'm sorry, but when these songs rise to fame, they did so on the back of a quality production and talented artists. It is simply not true that you can just mimic them and recapture the 'magic' that makes a particular recording stand out.
I suggest that BlackBerry QUICKLY reassess the algorithms used to put these types of 4th rate compilations on the front page of the BlackBerry World app and web store.
As a music lover and ardent BlackBerry supporter (AND SHAREHOLDER) I'm embarrassed, almost appalled, at this.
BlackBerry has to do better if they want to remain competitive, and with all the acclaim and promise of BlackBerry 10 and the imminent release of the Q10 around the world, this stands out as a glaring throwback to the days when critics of BlackBerry devices and Research In Motion declared that "BlackBerry is DEAD" and "BlackBerry doesn't try".
Please, PLEASE try to do better and profile legitimate new recordings, either by new / unknown artists or ANYTHING other than these imitation compilations (let's call them "impolations") because they represent the worst of the music business: a cynical cash-grab by rerecording the tracks without identifying them as rerecordings to deny the license revenue to the original copyright holders.

I couldn't agree with you more. Blackberry World Music needs to do better. The content is provided by 7digital. None of those "Top Albums" in BB World are even the 7digital top 20. When searching for the band Phoenix, it comes up as seventh artist, with four other artists ahead of them that don't even have Phoenix in their band name. It's terribly organized. You would think they would come up with something better given all of the criticism.

Apps on BlackBerry World for BlackBerry Z10

I'm very impressed with the new BlackBerry Z10 device with its new features, display resolution, keyboard typing and gestures, but I have a big issue with the Apps on BlackBerry world.
Still BlackBerry World is missing lots and lots of popular apps that are widely used and are currently available on Apple AppStore & Android Google Play. I know that you are working on it, and it is hard for now to compete with Apple & Android appstores, but at least there is a punch of apps that are mostly common worldwide, especailly the social networking and voip calling apps which have to be launched officially on BlackBerry world as soon as possible.
In addition, I'd like to draw your attention that the Facbook app (which is currently integrated with BB 10) is an older version of Facebook than the currently available one for Android & iOS devices (one big difference is that the current facebook app version for Android & iOS devices include the "Share" feature for my feeds and stories, while the facebook app on BB 10 still does not include that feature). I don't know about twitter and linkedin, as I didn't check yet, but at least pleasue ensure with their developers that those native integrated apps are updated to their latest versions to provide BlackBerry users the same experience that Android & iOS users are having.
Also, about apps, there are many apps developed by Google (like youtube, Google Maps & Navigation, Google +, Google Current ...etc) which are not yet available on BlackBerry world (The Youtube app on BB 10 is just a shortcut to the internet broweser and not a fullt fledged Youtube App). Having Google apps on BlackBerry world will also give a big push to the users base for BB 10 (especially the Google Maps & Navigation, which are ranked and considered the best mapping database and app worldwide). I know that Google have to develop such apps from their side (as the same for other developers), but I hope that BlackBerry should give this issue its ultimae priority, as I think that the major drawback (if I can name it so) for BB 10 to earn a significant market share worldwide is the absence of many popular and widely used apps on the BlackBerry World as compared with Apple App Store and Android Google Play.
I know that BB 10 and its OS is just the begining, and that BlackBerry have more to provide to us from the apps side and other sides as well, so keep moving and hope to see the positive results soon.

Blackberry has certainly put in a concerted effort to woo app developers of all types, big names and small alike. It by far the best effort that I have ever seen from them in this regard.. Unfortunately no matter the effort by them it will always come down to numbers for the big guys. If they aren't sure there will be a ROI on the investment of developing they won't put the resources into it.
This can be seen with the Facebook app you mentioned, it is a great example because it wasn't developed by Facebook... Blackberry ended up doing it for them. I'm sure that we have all noticed that Blackberry has been busy working on other areas of the phone, and that they have lots more work that we would all like to see done.
Would you rather have better notification granularity, or a better Facebook app?
If all of the million + z10 use re would all petition Facebook for a better FB built app, then we would have a much better chance of seeing the dream FB app that we desire.
Of course we all know about the rumours that FB wants to have their own phone.. so maybe conflict of interest has played into the game...?

BlackBerry World on 8520?!?!

I cannot download via desktop client, via WIFI, via anything!
I have a blackberry curve 8520 which i bought from a guy. It's an old model but it is in exceptional condition (brand new i'd say...)
So i swiped it and BlackBerry world is not there anymore. And i've been trying to reinstall it the last 2 days with no success so far.
What should i do? How can i fix this?

Can you be more specific? Do you get an error message? Does your device access other websites normally? Remember, we don't have your device in front of us so you have to tell us everything you can in order to help you.

A few suggestion from a new BlackBerry 10 user.

Hello everyone. Im a new BlackBerry user and BB Z10 is my first BlackBerry device ever. I moved from Android to BB 10. BlackBerry 10 is a nice OS but some of the basic things are not functioning correct even after 1 year of release. I will mention some here.
I can type first letter of my message/note etc in small alphabet letters. No matter what i do first letter (after full stop or first letter itself doesnt matter) is typed in full alphabetical letter. thats a big pain and it isn't solved yet.
When you are deleting a written text like you typed a message but you want to delete the first 3 or 4 words and you press and hold the backspace key on your BB 10 keyboad, it deletes the 3 or 4 words but if you dont release the key then it also starts deleting other words as well. well show a video demo if you don't understand what im saying.
there is led light but i don't see much use of it. its only used for notfications and only one light is used Red and there is no built-in led pattern editor. BlackBerry should atleast add a charging and battery full indicator as its very useful and must have one for led notification lights.
File transferring via BB link is toooo much slow. only 300 to 600 kb/s which too much slow. Improve this. I dont know whether its BB link issue or BB 10 issue.
No Built-In backup app. Come on BlackBerry even Asha 200 have a Built in backup manager.
Thats it for now. I will update post when i will find something else. BlackBerry 10 is really a nice OS. Its smooth and Fluid, swipe gestures are great. Im in love with my Z10.

1. You "can not"? That's not a bug. Just backspace and type the letter again, and it might require a third try, but it will work. That won't change, it's not a bug, it is intentional.
2. I understand, you are holding down the backspace key too long. Tap to set your cursor at the end of the words to delete. Swipe ONE finger across the keyboard from right side to left side to delete ONE word. Use two finger swiping right to left to delete TWO words.
3. There several third-party LED control and notification apps, BeBuzz, Hub++, and others. Check your App World.
4. Transferring via the USB cable? Doing so over WiFi is quicker in my experience. If you need help with this, please ask.
5. Link has a built in backup. In the past, Protect would backup over the air, but not on BlackBerry10 OS devices. I use FireChest Backup, for good and varied backup options.

Backing up and restoring app data of an App World (BlackBerry World) app

I'd like to do a security wipe on my old Bold 9700 and then reinstall/restore an App World (BlackBerry World) app that I purchased with the same BlackBerry ID.
1. Can I reinstall an app via App World after a security wipe?
2. WIll the app data (e.g. game scores) be restored?
3. I did a full back up with BDS7, if reinstalling the app on a security wiped phone does not reinstate the app data, can I retrieve the app data by restoring the app from the backup?
4. What about copying the .rem files of the App World folder of the app to my computer, reinstalling the app via App World and then copying the .rem files back to the Blackberry? Or is there another location I should look for the app data?

That I'm not sure of...it likely depends on how the scores are stored. If they are stored on the device, then it might be able to re-obtain that information after you reinstall the app. Likewise, if they are stored on some server somewhere, it might be able to do so. But there's really no way for anyone but the app developer to know for sure. If I were you, I'd prepare myself for those being lost as a result of this activity.

Maybe -- again, it depends on how the app works, which only the app developer can say. Some apps store data in AppMemory (which is what gets backed up), others store their data in Device or Media Card Memory (which is not necessarily backed up). And it may well be moot anyway, depending on how the developer coded the app.

Same issue...it all depends on how the developer coded the app. If the coded it to ignore any stored data anywhere each time the app is installed, then you can't force it to read anything, regardless of where you might restore it to. How do I redeem iTunes card from Australian store front

My friend sent me two iTunes card numbers from Australia to USA. When I tried to redeem them a message popped saying I must redeem from Australian store front. What does this mean and how do I redeem the cards???

Actually no I am not by wording of that it simply means one MUST spend the funds where it was purchased or IN Territory of purchase / country of origin. my friend APPLE / iTunes are very smart people by the way. one you must have credit / debit card as well as phone number that is actually number. But the key to what I am saying is this if you change your address and number and so on, and you enter the card number TAKE A WILD GUESS WHERE You HAVE TO SPEND THE MONEY:). YES U R RIGHT AUSTRALIA And Yes YOU ARE WRONG as well as other two. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO Move THERE TO SPEND THE MONEY THERE. LAW IS MERELY WORDS THAT ARE COMPOSED TO EXPRESS THE LAWS. WELL THERE ARE ALWAYS LEAGAL LOOP HOLES IN THOSE LAWS. POINT?? ITUNES IS WORLD WIDE AND THE ABILITY TO MAKE THE PURCHASE IS WORLD WIDE. MEANING YES I CAN LEAVE THE COUNTRY OF AUSTRALIA AMD STilL SPEND EVERY DIME OF THE CURRENCY IN A ITUNE STORE GOVERNED BY AUSTRALIA which pays their taxes to do business in that country. THOSE WORDS SIMPLY PUT ONLY MEANS THIS (the card was purchased in this or that country so you have to spend currency with that country. The second thing and more important THAN LEAVING AND PERSON WHO SAYS ( oh no I have to fly back to Australia at four lol to spend this million on my iTunes card)lol wow smart guy OK SERIOUSLY LMAO. OK THE MAJOR POINT IN THAT RULE IS (((DO NOT ATTEMT TO HACK OR SPEND IN JAPAN OR AMERICAS AND SO ON))))). LOL WOW STUDY THE LAWS MY FRIEND. ALSO APPLE ISNt MULTI BILLION corporation for not being able to solve that one with ease. Any ways as I sit in my Seattle home ( north of) I have 2 things my fifty bucks from friend on account and two a very expensive Australian iTunes Store list & until I spend every dime to the last penny is spent. And if there is a balance unable to make purchase it will get put into a Australian account or will in some way get spent that country by law as written. so genius the money never leaves the country lol. And no laws are violated from Australian iTunes agreement.
Like I said do your research before you post incorrect info. ONE !!!YOU DO NOT HAVE TO FLY TO ANOTHER COUNTRY TO SPEND MONEY WITH ANOTHER COUNTRY. AN AS LONG AS YOU DO NOT ATTEMPT IN ANYWAY SHAPE FORM OR FASION TO SPEND THAT MONEY OUTSIDE OF THE COUNTRY OF ORIGIN STORE YOU CAN GO TO Any OF THE NINE OR TEN PLANETS AND USE IT. BOOM. IN YO FACE HAHA. Oh there are lots of cricket apps. Lol I mean lots like wow lots also the prices for books are almost double and the apps USA would pay 4.99 are like 7-9.99. So any other remarks about this issue to me is pointless why???!!because I have my money two my Apple ID is or app /iTunes store is connected to Australia so therefore as long as I do not attempt in any way to spend it else where no laws will be violated. If you think I'm wrong my friend give them a call and study the agreement or research more deeply. No hard feelings but make sure you are correct when saying I am wrong that I know to be true.
