New Blackbook, from windows, getting acquainted issues from A to ...

I just bought a new blackbook.
I am trying to get used to mac again after about 10 years of not using.
Here are some of the issues I haven't been able to resolve as of yet, maybe you can help?
A\\-how to change size of title/finder/apple bar (that thing at the top with the time)
B\\-how to add the date to the title bar (currently I can only get the time up there)
C\\-how to minimize a window w/o an animation (current options are genie or scale, I want none)
D\\-how to alt-tab like windows (I assume there is another key combination besides alt-tab that works like alt-tab. Currently alt-tab is similiar but its not the same and its hurting my work. In one key combination, I want to be able to minimize and maximize any window on the screen. So that my desktop is clear but I can see all the windows that are currently open)
E\\-making finder search and spotlight actually search computer (currently spotlight will not go near the library as an example)
F\\-i have solved the clamshell problem by installing insomniax but the efficiency is way off (currently I have to make 2 clicks to sleep the display, and 2 clicks to sleep the system, and if I sleep the system, then I have to make 2 clicks to reenable insomniax)(In my old computer, I had no clicks to sleep the monitor, when I closed the lid of the computer it killed power to the monitor. If I wanted to sleep/suspend the system. I had to push one button (a button is MUCH quicker than a click)
G\\-show view options, calculate all sizes, is great. Where is the global setting for this?
H\\-in finder preferences, what are spring loaded folders?
I\\-in finder preferences, sidebar, can I edit any of them, like places, shared, an devices, can I change them from lists to links?
J\\-in finder preferences, sidebar, can I get to any of these without going through sidebar?
K\\-in finder preferences, sidebar, why arnt shared categorized like all the other items instead of just listed (currently in finder under shared is a list of computers, yet under PLaces is home, desktop, applications, and documents;; in the finder preferences though under shared is connected servers, bonjour computers, and back to my mac)
L\\-in textedit what is smart copy/paste
M\\-global setting for smaller window sizes (currently everything on desktop is at 10pt font, then I open an application and the font jumps from 10pt to 16pt almost)
N\\-global setting for maximize (currently I have to open an application and then maximize it, I just want to open an application, and not have to maximize cause it already is)
O\\-how to have your home folder on another partition, or to setup a backup of your home folder to another partition, like mobileme and idisk does only to a partition, or even a usb drive instead of mobileme and idisk. I heard there was a way in mac os x server, but I dont want server for this simple thing
P\\-how to setup a operation to run every time an application is installed (currently when I install an application about 50% of the time it appears in the applications folder as an icon, and the other 50% it appears in the applications folder as a folder;; in the second situation I have to then go make a shortcut, and put it in the applications folder(i need this to happen everytime);; in windows they had something for this called the start menu)
Q\\-how to show hidden files and folders in finder (/var /volumes /etc; currently I can see all of them in open dialog boxes, and other places, yet I can't in finder)
R\\-global setting for calculate sizes, in show view options, in finder
S\\-how to set defaults or preferences in calculator(currently if I open calculator it opens the basic calculator even if I use the programmers calculator all the time)
T\\-how to change the size of icons in stacks

How to make Safari browser always open a new web page in a new Safari browser window which was clicked from a PDF document URL

I have a web application which would enable users to see a list of PDF document on the web page and when the user select the PDF document, it will be open by a adobe PDF view
Within the content of the PDF document, it will contact URL links to some other portal web pages which we would like these other web pages to be open in a new browser window, but our testing shows that the new web pages may not always open in a new browser window.
Could you help to advise how I can enforce that new web pages that are clicked from the PDF document can always be open in a new Safari browser window ?

Hello,
In order to change the default reader for PDF files (to not open PDF files with Firefox's internal PDF reader), follow these steps:
#Go to ''Tools'' > ''Options'' (or ''Firefox'' > ''Options'').
#In the Options window, select the ''Applications'' tab.
#In the ''Search'' field, type ''PDF''. You should find ''Portable Document Format (PDF)''.
#On the right handside you should find an ''Action'' column. Use that to select your favorite PDF reader. In order to view PDF files in Firefox, choose ''Preview in Firefox''.

Call ggsci using batch file from windows- get error

i create a script to use ggsci, start manager, extract and replicat.
i have success doing this in my linux.
here is one of my script : start_ext1.sh
cd /u01/app/oracle/ggs
./ggsci <<EOF
start manager
start ext_s
exit
EOF
clear
i have an error when i do this using batch file from windows.
here is the batch file :

cd C:\putty
plink.exe -ssh -2 -P 22 [email protected] -pw oracle "./start_ext1.sh"
every time i try to enter ggsci when i run that batch file, i get this error :
./ggsci: error while loading shared libraries: libnnz10.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
i didn't get this error when i run the script in linux.
is there anybody can help me?

Sorry, but you probably can't. You cannot sync from an Apple TV to a PC except for items purchased from the iTunes Store on the Apple TV. You'll need to restore from the backups you made of your iTunes library, which I presume you made?

New computer- trying to get old playlist from old computer

I set up my itunes account at work and im not sure if there is a way to log in and then somehow all my songs from my old computer can transfer. I don't have my old computer any more!! I also can't seem to figure out how to transfer my songs from my ipod onto this account

No. They don't transfer simply by logging into your iTunes account.
You need to transfer them from your old computer to your new computer.
You can use an external drive, CD/DVD or a flash drive.

New Computer - How to get my apps from iPhone?

I re-installed my OS 10.5 as I was having some problems. Im now trying to sync my iPhone with the computer and it says that my iPhone is linked to another account/computer.

Don't forget to back up manually. You can do this by right clicking on the phone in the device list and choosing "backup". All settings and 3rd party data will be transferred to itunes as well. See what's inside a backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event to make sure your contacts and calendars are merged, if you didn't sync your phone after the reinstalled OS.

HP Officejet 4500 G510n-z Wireless connection prints from Windows Vista but not from Windows 7

HP Officejet 4500 G510n-z printer appears to be connected to my Dell Notebook running Windows 7 on the HP Solution Center page but does not print.Documents just get stuck in the que. It was printing then it wasn't then it was then it wasn't. The printer works when I print from an older notebook running Vista. The last time this happened, I uninstalled and reinstalled HP software and that didn't seem to help. Then, for some inexplicable reason, printing started working. Now it has stopped working again.I can scan from the Windows 7 Notebook but no printing. I've tried all of the troubleshooting tools I could find without success. Thanks for trying to help.

It could be caused by a couple things :
1. Firewall on PC or in router.
2. wireless interference (ie microwave, cordless phone base @ 2.4 Ghz)
3. distance from router
4. corrupt print driver.
Turn off any firewalls you have and move anything that can cause interference away from router.
If none of the above resolves issue, I'll have you install another print driver.
Click on start.
Go to Devices and Printers.
Click on Add a Printer.
Add a Local printer. Create a new Port and choose "Standard TCP/IP port.
Hit Next.
Type in 192.168.1.12 in the Hostname or IP address box. (uncheck "Query the printer" box)
Hit next.
When the Printer List opens up, click on windows update. ( this will take a few mins)
After the box shows up, Pick HP (not Hewlett Packard) on the Left and pick "Deskjet 990c" on the Right.
Click next, set as default, and finish.
Try to print using the Deskjet 990c.

Bootcamp Win7 - won't boot from Windows partition or even from the Win7 install DVD

Late 2011 Mac Mini / Lion / Win 7 64-bit Home Premium.
Incumbent Windows partition has happily run for heavy gaming (World of Warcraft) for some eight months. Now it stops on boot-up before the Windows logo is displayed, with a very dark blue blank screen. Attempts to boot from the Windows Install DVD yield the same result, portending that there is more than a corrupt MBR at work here. I have reset PRAM and SMC, just for good measure. There have been no recent changes to hardware / peripherals.
Rebuilding the Windows partition with Bootcamp stops at same Dark Blue Screen of Death. Will start Windows sometimes from first switch-on / dead cold Mini, but then not again in the same day. OS X Lion mode runs perfectly, booting up as usual with no quirks or delays.
Hardware? Seems unlikely, except for that suspicion of starting from the dead-cold start.

Do not use a USB3 flash drive. Only USB2 flash drives are supported by Windows installers. Depending on whether your Mac came with a built-in Optical drive or not, you may also need a physical DVD.

X230 won't wake up from hibernation-- different issue from x1 post

only got my x230 last week, the same problem has happened twice.
I put my laptop into hibernation mode, when I turned it back on, it led to a black screen. it seems like it's running (with the green light for the wifi and power being on) and when i clicked on the space bar, it makes a noise
but nothing happened even after 10 minutes.-- the screen stays black.
the first time i did a hard shut down and when i restarted, i run into some kind of window update errors
is it a defect item? can i get it exchange?

So, do I understand that you want to physically remove the hard drive to retreive your files?
What is the model number of your computer? HP might have a document for your model that gives detailed instructions for removing the hard drive.

HP All-in-One 2355 Shared from Windows PC - Cannot print from any Mac

Hi all!
I have a HP All-in-One 2355 printer. It is installed correctly on my Mac, and when I try to use it connected by USB, works fine.
But the printer is all the time conected to a PC, where is installed to. The PC runs Windows XP, at is in the same Wireless network as my MacBook Pro. The printer is "shared" on this PC.
When I search the HP 2355 with my MacBook throught wireless, I can find it. I see it if I going to Preferences Settings, Printers, Windows, Workgroup... Then I can add the printer, but I can't select any driver to asign, because the driver for HP All-in-One 2350 series don't appear.
What can I do? I contacted with HP, but they tell me that they don't support sharing between Windows and Mac.

Removing a service from windows server when deleted from registry

I have a service in services.msc with the description saying "Failed to read description. Error code:2".
The problem is the service isnt in the registry, using "sc delete" wont work. Ive tried adding the key into the registry with the string value set for the display name the same as the service in the service.msc then attempting to delete.

You might check the event log for further details. if the service key folder under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services is gone then I suspect the error message is about a different service.

How do I move my library from Windows Vista hard drive that is now in an external box to a Windows 8 PC?

My old PC operating with Windows Vista failed to reboot, ironically but only coincidentally right after I installed the latest Itunes update a few weeks ago. It would not get past the DOS screen but getting that far I was at least able to conduct a diagnostics. The result was Hard Drive failure "BIOS-HD." I have a new PC with Windows 8 and have installed Itunes there as well. I removed the Hard Drive from the old computer and placed it in an external drive box. Fortunately, I can access everything on that drive including Itunes. How do I move my Itunes Library from my old hard drive in the external box and connected to my new PC, to the hard drive in the new PC? I see all sorts of instructions on line but none for the specific circumstance of the old hard drive in an external box and moving to a new PC with newer operating system (Windows 8). Thanks

Aside from checking here, I also Googled for an answer. Then I faced the problem on the Internet where stuff stays there forever and so I see solutions for previous and maybe obsolete versions of Itunes. I have no way of knowing if the seemingly sound advice was solved in later versions of Itunes. In one case there is a great YouTube video with a guy from Circuit City (now out of business). I found an extensive explanation that made my head explode with all the detail but I did understand enough to see that the solution they precribed has you go onto your new computer and make sure you rename your new hard drive to match the name of the hard drive from your old computer. That way Itunes on the new computer will be able to find it okay. These instructions also tell you to downlaod Itunes software on the new computer first and then move two different folders (I think one has the extension of .itl); one folder with the library and the other has the metadata--to the new computer. Then to confuse things I have seen instructions that also say to just move the files and they don't address the issue with the file names like turringtest said. Most discouraging is that all of the instructions I have talked about, explain what to do without ever addressing my specific situation where the old hard rive used to reside in an old computer and has an Vistas Operating System that apparently failed and caused me to get a new computer in the first place (I guess I could have loaded a new operating system but not sure if that would have wiped out my extensive files...also irrelevant to the discussion }:) Sorry).
