New blade = new firmware upgrade?

Hello,
I'd like to know whether a new blade server purchase means forcibly an upgrade of the existing UCS infrastructure to the newest UCS Manager release?
Thanks a lot,

CIMC's can by updated without interupting blades. I preffer updating CIMC's first, and have mixed 2.0 and 1.4 Bios and Mez card without any trouble a few times. Best to control CIMC, Bios, and Mez card code level with Firmware policies.
The 2.0 code has new OS drivers so be sure and check that out. Have mixed 2.0 and 1.4 a few times both ways and never made a difference. Due to a lazy SCCM admin ran 2.0 OS drivers on 1.4 blade firmware for a few months. Didn't make a difference. This is all with Windows 2008R2.
Over time have found that this is the best order for updating code levels on Cisco UCS. This way the UCSM keeps communication between itself down to the CIMC through the update process. Note that the IOM’s wait until their FI reboots to reboot and update code level.
This is considered the “Bottom Up” method.  Some prefer the “Top Down” method but I have found it much less smooth and harder to recover from if something goes wrong.
Always backup configuration before upgrading code levels.
Should go
1)      CIMC
2)      IOM (which will wait until the FI’s update)
3)      UCSM
4)      FI X (Which ever is the current passive FI)
5)      FI X (Second FI)

  • New Creative Zen Firmware Upgrade Borked - update: I think it's fi

    Hello!
I got a new 6gb Creative Zen today. Have a question:
    1. I upgraded the firmware after the original CD load. There were 4 critical updates. However, after all that ran, the Zen is messed up - I get a screen that has Clean Up, Format All, Reload Firmware and Reboot. When I tried to reboot I get a Reload Firmware message. I cannot get into the system at all.
I'm sure I'll have more questions later. Thanks for the help!Message Edited by Gankaku on 0-6-200809:0 PM
EDIT: I re-downloaded the firmware from the site and reinstalled and maybe things are ok now? I have access to the player from a Windows window. Hopefully all is well now.Message Edited by Gankaku on 0-6-200809:37 PM

My microphoto is doing the exact same thing. When I boot to recovery mode and select any of the options the player freezes while trying to execute the task. For example if I select 'clean up' the 'scan disk...' window comes up and immediately freezes. The only option in recovery mode that functions is the restart option, but when I restart it freezes at the creative logo again.
Ideally I would like to upgrade the firmware, but like traceinnabox my computer does not recognize the player...
This seems to be a problem that is not unique to me. Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution?

Does each new ios firmware upgrade contain the features from previous upgrades?

    Not necessarily.
Just like OS X, somethings may be removed.

  • New Firmware Upgrade Not Needed

I tried to download and install the firmware upgrade posted today (v1.4), which is supposed to take my BootROM to MBP31.0070.B03 (it is currently identified as MBP31.0070.B02 in System Profiler). However, when I run the updater, it tells me I don't need the update.
    Any thoughts?

The santa rosa chipsets (2.2s and 2.4s) may not need the firmware ?upgrade. If my 2.4 had needed the upgrade, it would have shown up in Software Update, and it did not.
I don't mind this at all. Firmware upgrades could be problematic and I love to avoid them where possible. All of the iLife and iWork upgrades came up on software update for me and installed and are working fine.

  • New Creative ZEN Firmware 1.21.03" firmware does not work

    >New Creative ZEN Firmware .2.03" firmware does not work This new "Creative ZEN Firmware .2.03, Filesize : 7.6 MB" firmware does not work.
All I get is : "Please make sure there is only one player connected" (See image below)
I have a CreativeZen 4GB player with Vista 64-Bit Operating system (Main System).
Yes, I have followed the instructions step-by-step, downloaded the new firmware first, then, connected my ZEN player, double-clicked the "ZEN_PCFW_L22__2_03" downloaded file.
Note : No other programs were running in the backround, even turned off installed firewall and anti-virus software. Also, tried this new firmware in a Windows XP (SP2) computer system and a Notebook Vista 32-Bit computer system. Yes! I only have one player connected. Same result (See image below).
I left it sit for one hour and did not move, same result (See image below).
I tried this in safemode (All OS systems), same result (See image below).

Re: New Creative ZEN Firmware .2.03" firmware does not work$ I updated my Zen 32GB using Vista x64 so it can work under some situations. Can't say my upgrade went problem-free but it did work in the end.
You might try some of the following (no promises they will help, but can't really hurt):
Re-download the firmware updater. Maybe you got a bad download.
Make sure your Zen is directly connected to a system USB port (i.e. not to a port on a monitor, keyboard, ext USB hub, etc.)
Try running the firmware update as Administrator if you aren't already
Try uninstalling the Creative drivers before the update.
In my case I got stuck on a message that another application was using my Zen. Turned out the simple act of hooking up the player resulted in Vista running a headless "wmplayer.exe *32" process. I had to manually kill it from TaskManager in order to proceed. Even then the first update attempt ended with the Zen reporting a firmware problem and rebooting into the Recovery Menu. I had to use Reload Firmware to erase what it had and then try again. Second time was the charm.
After all that I can't for the life of me see any changes/improvements in the new firmware. The forum is full of gripes and wishlists yet none of them complain about the radio functionality. I've used it almost every day for year without issue (aside from the rare Zen hang/crash when messing with the headphone jack and/or sliding the power switch). Thank goodness after waiting 0- months since the last update they got around to fixing something nobody noticed was broken. /2?:smileyvery-happy:

  • New Iphone baseband firmware has killed all GPS location software.

Are apple aware that the new iphone modem firmware update has effectively broken the iphone 3gs as far as GPS location goes. I have looked around on various forums and on the tomtom forum there are lots of people in the same situation.
    http://www.tomtomforums.com/tomtom-iphone-navigator/22273-ios4-1-4-upgrade-no-gp s-fix-iphone-3g.html
I have not seen evidence of apple acknowledging the issue...so dont know if they are even aware of the problem.

I'm getting very interested in GPS problems across the iPhone range. Ive got a 3GS and the GPS satellite fix stopped working completely recently. A fix identified using jailbreak and an ssh terminal tells me a good proportion of these problems are with locationd, the gps process in the iPhone, or more accurately, I think that it's possible for some of the data this process uses to become corrupted; the "fix" involves stopping the process and deleting the data it uses. On restart, locations is forced to rebuild the data, and everything then works.
I suspect this is true across the iPhone range - and worse, I think that the backup function in iTunes actually backs up the bad data. Thus, when you restore from backup, you actually put the problem back in! Either that, or GPS cache data isnt deleted when the iphone is restored.
What we need is an option in iTunes, or the iPhone settings, to clear GPS ephemeris and related data down and restart locationd: this will save apple a fortune in support at genius bars, as I reckon everyone who is getting a replacement is just getting a reblanked refurbished iPhone with no hardware fixes - they could be turning them around in the back of the stores!
We need to get some group pressure together to get an answer out of apple on this really - they do seem to have an approach which has much in common with the way the UK banks were dealing with overdraft fees - if you complained, they refunded just to keep you quiet and make sure you didn't shout. If this issue is an underlying gps driver or application demon issue, they should give us a way to work around the issue.

  • New XFi-2 firmware (1.20.08); install?

The only enhancement listed for the new .20.08 firmware is to support a new 64gb model.
As I don't have the new model is there any good reason to accept the update?
My unit is working well as is, and I don't want to risk disruption if there is no benefit.
Has anybody installed it's How did it go? Did you notice any improvement?
    I see? [url="http://forums.creative.com/t5/MP3-Players/XFi-2-Latest-firmware--20-08-has-caused-some-issues-on-32GB/td-p/554470" rel="nofollow">one thread [/url]iindicating possible trouble.

I thought the European firmware doen't have volume restriction. Maybe that's the difference?
Also, firmware .20.08 only adds support for 64GB players. So there's no need to upgrade if you have .2.08 installed on a 8 or 6 or 32GB player.

  • Can't install new 2.1 firmware

Here are the steps that lead up to my problem.
    - I synced my iphone 2G with itunes 7.7
    - updated to itunes 8 (and rebooted macbook as instructed)
    - repeated the iphone sync
    - rss news of 2.1 firmware availability arrives
    - begin another iphone sync
    - I click on UPDATE button
    - 2.1 firmware downloads but extraction fails with error (-19)
    - sync aborts because iphone dropped out of sync mode ("Sync in Progress" goes away on phone)
    - unmount & unplug iphone from usb
    - reconnect iphone to usb
    - itunes alert that new firmware (2.1) available
    - I select to install the new update
    - iphone never goes into sync mode (no "Sync in Progress" on phone)
    - the backup prior to 2.1 install fails with -19 error
However, if I choose NOT to install the new 2.1 firmware, the iphone immediately goes into sync mode and a successful sync completes. I'd like to install the 2.1 update but that means the iphone won't go into sync mode and the update subsequently aborts because of it.
    Any ideas?

Problem solved. Here's what I did.
    - Completed a successful sync with 2.02 firmware / itunes 8 (slow!)
    - Kept the iphone plugged in (i.e. did not unmount it)
    - Clicked UPDATE in itunes
    - Upgrade to 2.1 proceeded just fine this time!
So, once I completed a sync then the trick (for me) was to not unplug the iphone and then re-plug it in again for another sync/update attempt. It seems that clicking on the INSTALL button (itunes new software alert dialog) while itunes wants to just do a sync caused the problem. Why, I don't know. Saying no to the update, allowing the sync to complete (took ~1 hour) and then clicking on UPDATE does the trick for me.
2.1 is working fine for me now and syncs do happen much faster.

I got a flashing folder with a question mark. I got a new hard drive and upgraded to 4 gigs and can't open anything or reload the operating system? Help? FYI: I have been using boot camp with windows 7 and started getting a kernal_data_Page_error and it would reboot windows, i was trying to do a chkdsk on the next reboot, but thats when i started getting this issue. I have put in a new hard drive and went from 2 gigs to 4. I can not get the computer to do anything, even the monitor does not show anything now????

    Prep your new drive:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs,) then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Install OS X.

  • IPhoto events and pictures missing from iPhoto after restoring new hard drive and upgrade to iLife11

My iPhoto events and pictures are ALL missing from my iPhoto Library after I tried restoring my programs on a new hard drive AND upgrading to iLife11!  Over the last few months, I upgraded my 2008 Macbook Pro's hard drive from a 250 GB to a 500 GB hard drive and since then have been manually installing and restoring programs and software.  I decided to do things manually because I had problems with doing Time Machine backups/restores in the past, so before I upgraded the drive, I manually saved everything to a Western Digital MyStudio 1 TB hard drive that I had just for the purposes of a second back up.  Anyway, I tried importing the pictures onto the new library, but couldn't find the hard copies at first, so that didn't work.  I then tried deleting the iPhoto Library that came with new operating system, then copying my old backup onto the new hard drive...that didn't work either.  However, when I right clicked on the iPhoto Library icon on my external hard drive (the original) and clicked on "show package contents," the folder not only contained the originals, but they were still organized by year and event just as I had them originally!
So, then I thought "why don't I try just importing the pictures directly into the new iPhoto Library!"
I tested it out, and sure enough, it worked!  I then tried importing an entire folder (which, was actually the name of the event), and again it worked!  So, I literally clicked and dragged my entire 2007-2009 library of pictures (which was about 35 GB) back into my iPhoto Library!  AND, this only took about 30 minutes to download, enough time for me to write this post and the following instructions to Recap:
              1. Open your new iPhoto Library
              2. Go to wherever your ORIGINAL iPhoto Library is saved/backed up, then Right-click (or Control click) on the iPhoto icon
              3. Click on "Show Package Contents"
              4. Go to the folder called "Originals" or "Master"
              5. Click and drag everything INSIDE the folder (not the folder itself) to your new iPhoto Library
              6. DO NOT try Importing from inside iPhoto!  For some reaseon, iPhoto can't see these images, but I promise, they're there!
I assume this could work on other iLife programs, but luckily I have MobileMe and my iCalendar updated itself, though I did have to do some tweeking...
Hope this helps other people out, GOOD LUCK!

I'm re-posting the answer to this problem so I can show it has been answered:
    Open your new iPhoto Library
Go to wherever your ORIGINAL iPhoto Library is saved/backed up, then Right-click (or Control click) on the iPhoto icon
    Click on "Show Package Contents"
Go to the folder called "Originals" or "Master"
Click and drag everything INSIDE the folder (not the folder itself) to your new iPhoto Library
DO NOT try Importing from inside iPhoto!  For some reason, iPhoto can't see these images, but I promise, they're there!
              GOOD LUCK!!!
