New book on Interaction Center available from SAP Press!

Congratulations, John!
I have checked the content, but I could not find anything about the web service tool. Is there a chapter about this tool?
Regards
AleX

Hello Mangesh,
Well, the book is quite a few years old now. I approached the publisher a couple of years ago about writing an updated version or addendum, but it wasn't something that they were interested in at the time. However, they do have a new acquisitions editor recently, so perhaps if enough people contact her with interest they might reconsider. Below is her info.

  • How do I upload a book from SAP Press (epub) into iTunes to load into my iPad4

I need help, I'd like to upload an epub book from SAP Press into my iPad 4, I've downloaded the book to my computer and tried coping it to the iTunes libary but it does not show up for me to upload with iBook. Any help would be appericiated

Have you updated to the most recent version of iTunes? That's important. Then did you use File>Add to library within iTunes? That's how you add it. It should then automatically place it within the iBooks location so that your next sync will transfer it.

  • PING Process :: Checking App System availability from SAP R/3

    Hi
Our requirement is to check Whether Application System is UP or DOWN before sending the data from SAP Server like Pinging the  application system from SAP System.
We are using the Web Service as Target Application System & SAP R/3 as Source System now SAP R/3 will call one RFC ( like <i>Z_Ping</i> ) before calling any other RFC to send data to WebService. Following is the configuration -->
<b>SAP R/3 -- Sender RFC Adapter -- SAP XI -- Rec SOAP Adapter -- App System ( Web Service )</b>
Now can you tell me what is the appropraite way to do this, because in case of System Error ( in case when WebService is down  or Server on which WS is installed is down ) XI is not receving any exception payload so no mapping is happening.
Though I created the " <u><i>Error</i></u> " xsd & used it as a Fault message but the mapping is not getting initiated.
Can you tell me how I can achieve this & suggest me the design specification.
    Best Regards
    - Lalit -

    hey
u can do this using alerts, configure alerts so that it gets triggered whenever anythin wrong happens with Z_ping.and if response is negative then dont send subsequent messages.
alerts will always work irrespective of mapping.
but one thing is that triggering/not-triggering the subsequent message will be manual coz u need to check the alert before u send messages
    thanx

  • EXCEL document's book size format after downloading from SAP

    Dear forumers,
we have developed a user report in ABAP, this report downloads table containing data into Excel. The problem is that the downloaded table is wide and the page format in Excel-document is broad size as default. We need the system to download the table into Excel in book size format by default. How to make it automatically?
To do it every time manually takes time. At the moment we have to go to File -- Parameters -- Page Orientation -- pick Book size, and put the Scale 90%. After that table in Excel fits a book size page.

  • Customer Interaction Center CIC and SAP Phone

    Dear All,
We are using SAP Phone with CIC, and everything is working well when the SAP Phone server is started, but soon after one by one some of the extensions stop working. The users when they try to do any operation are blocked as SAP R3 is waiting for SAP Phone server to reply and in the log of the server we see the following
"A call to TAPI function lineGetAgentStatus has failed.
Call handle to use:        (Not used)
Second call handle to use: (Not used)
(Both or one of them may be marked as "Not used"
if not relevant for TAPI call)

The SAPphone Server uses TAPI 2.0 or higher to map
SAPphone functionality to TAPI. Unfortunaltely your
TAPI service provider currently being used does not
implement all TAPI functions required by the SAPphone Server.
In particular, this TAPI function is not supported: lineGetAgentStatus
Please contact the vendor of your TAPI service provider
to get a new version where function lineGetAgentStatus
is implemented or choose a different TAPI service provider."
We have checked the TAPI version and it is 2.1.x. Has anyone faced similar problems? and know of any solutions? If we re-start the SAP Phone server again everything works fine for some time. We checked the memory and its 4GB main memory, and system load is also low
Any help on this will be very much appreciated.
    Thanks and Best Regards

  • New book about virtualization and SAP systems

    Hi guys,
for all of you this may be of interest: there is a new book available, which contains a lot of stuff about virtualization. It is not only VMware, but also Hyper-V, Xen and Sun Solaris Zones. Unfortunately the book is only available in german.
It contains a good overview about each solution and how to use the virtualization solution for your SAP environment.
The book can be ordered on amazon, bol etc.
    Regards
    André

The book is good for beginners to help making a vendor decision and for intermediate users as an installation guide.
It basically walks the reader through the installation of VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, SLES with Xen and Sun Solaris-Zones.
I personally would have preferred to see a little bit more about optimization, but it is definitely a good first release.
One word of warning: I ordered the book directly from SAP Press Germany and even though I got charged $25 for shipping it didn't arrive in prime condition. In fact all corners were bumped and there was also a minor cut across the side of the book. This seems to be caused by using a box for shipping that barely fits the book.
Regardless of the shipping experience I recommend the book if you can read German.
    Cheers,
    Jens

  • SAP Press book on Universal Worklist

    Hi all,
I have just started writing a book for SAP Press on the Universal Worklist, to pass along some of what I have learned when working with the portal these past 5 years or so (anyone else remember EP 4.5?)
I've put up a blog entry at
<a href="http://www.fortybeans.com/">http://www.fortybeans.com/</a> and if you click the <a href="http://fortybeans.wishconsultants.co.uk/item/2007/2/6/universal-worklist-book-for-sap-press">Read more</a> link you can see the proposed chapters and sections I will be writing.
I'd really appreciate any feedback any of you can give me - I want to make this the best possible book of its kind, and the only way to do that is to find out what people want from the book and then to give it to them. Maybe this could be the first book from SAP Press with "Powered by SDN" on the cover?
Let me know what you think,
    Darren

First off....EP4.5?....yep...when it was a Top Tier product. I was working on Workplace 3.0 (bootcamp) at the time....one week later, SAP and Top Tier announce the joint formation of the company "SAP Enterprise Portals" with their flagship product EP 5.0. Ahhh those were the days. I really want to meet the person who came up with calling it "portal-S" because I spent countless time explaining why the product was "Enterprise Portal" and not "Enterprise Portals". That was only compounded once SAP bought Top Tier outright, brought EP5.0 back into SAP proper and folded the "SAP Enterprise Portals" company. Ugg....anyways...
The book sounds great. I too have fought in the trenches and wrestled with the UWL. It is great when it is used strictly as intended and with the limitations it might have. Past that....let the fun begin!
I read your rough outline. Some chapters/content I would really like to see....
    - some basic coverage on Workflow (what it is, how it works, etc).
    - some explaination of "webflow", how it got started and where it is today
    - how workflow correlates to what the user sees in the UWL
    - limitations of the UWL based on support package level ( this is a big one!!! trying to use attachments now...nope...can't until the next SP level unless we backport our own custom webdynpro...that's not fun to find out 2 months in! haha)
    - really good examples of customizing items to launch one way in the portal versus another way within the backend inbox (ie. uwl xml config vs. config in the backend) and show ways to launch various SAP apps (dialog in SAP GUI, ITS service, webdynpro, etc). from UWL items.
    - same as above but show how to launch NON-SAP apps (we have a situation now where we have a UWL item that launches a Flex application and passes an order number to it)
    - similar to the above two, what's possible to pass across from the UWL to whatever through the portal (like UWL to an iView and on to the underlying application)...figuring out how "DynamicParameters" works is new to lots of people who might not have web dev background and/or understand the construction/structure of a URL query string
    - some information along the lines of "UWL launched an item/action out to some app, but how does the workflow status get updated to that fact?" ie. what makes the round trip complete?
    - a really good BIG, real world example showing multi-system (CRM-to-ECC-to-APO-to-SRM-to- etc) workflow and how the UWL makes it all much easier and fluid (in theory...haha)
That's just a few off the top of my head that seem to always be sooo much fun with the UWL.
Good luck on the book! Looking forward to it already!

  • Send IDoc from SAP SCM to XI

    Hi,
Can somebody give me step by step procedure to send IDoc form SAP SCM to XI. We are not using ICH. IDoc is coming to SCM through EDI. Once it is posted in SCM, we want to send it to XI. We had a option of sending directly to XI through EDI connectivity, but for some reason we want to post it in SCM and then send it to XI.
    Thanks,

    hi,
sending IDOCs to XI is always the same
apart from documents section in the XI FAQ (link below)
when you can find some IDOC weblogs
you can also find lots of configuration examples for IDOC-XI scenarios in my book:

  • New book on CRM 2007 Webclient - Customizing & Development

    Hi,
yesterday I saw that there is a new book coming up on the CRM WebClient 2007 in march. It seems to be focused on developers. It is available through SAP Press, ISBN 978-3-8362-1287-8.
Has anybody had a chance to get a sneak peak at it? What are the contents? Amazon did not have a lot on it and Sappress just posted a short description and the chapters included.
The authors are Michael Füchsle and Matthias Zierke. Does anyone know about the authors?
Looking forward to any information if I should invest in it.
    cheers Carsten

    Hi Matthias,
I really did not mean to offend you or any other author/publisher/etc.. Until now I have not had the opportunity to write a book on something, but I am sure it is a whole lot of work.
However, I really am glad that someone wrote a book about WebClient and I am positive that there is a lot of wisdom in it that will answer many of the "beginner" questions. The fact that it has been published in german first is completely understandable as both authors are german. Moreso I would have found it very sad if the completed german version of the book would be held back until the english one is ready.
    Back on topic:
I regret to say that I still did not have the opportunity to get a look into the book myself. My colleague has recieved it and it is circulating around our company giving WebClient "beginners" a good start.
Has someone else (sorry Stephen, there are native german speakers in here ) had a look at it? I can not believe that no one in the WebClient Forum has read it by now?!
    cheers Carsten

  • SAP Press 'BIA Book' - reviews ?

    Hi All
Has anyone read this book ? What are your reviews on this book from SAP Press ?
Is it an introductory book or does it give more information than the Technical Operations Manual for BIA ?
    Thanks,Sarah

    Hi Andy,
Your book definitely goes into more details then TOM, but there is one area that is still gray for me after going through your book: indexing of key figures.
Here is my current understanding, and I'll appreciate if you could confirm or correct it.
1/ Today all query conditions are evaluated by OLAP engine, so BWA does not do any selections (like how many records have sales greater then X) on key figures.
2/ Key figures are used only for selection of values and aggregation, therefore it does not make sense to produce inverted index for KF columns. Insted they are stored as blocks for full scans.
3/ KF columns float values (quantities and amounts) are still converted to integer valueid to benefit from bit coding (smart compression).
4/ Number of bits in coding should not only accommodate biggest numeric value in the column, but as well the biggest sum of available values (like aggregation of absolute values of all records).
5/ Because of points above, the compression factor for KF columns is worse then for characteristics/DIMIDs.
Is my understanding (points 1 to 5) correct?
    Will appreciate your answer,
    -Vitaliy
