New Build a78m-35 wont boot/POST

Hello, I am hoping someone can help me out as I am not sure what else to try. Its a new build with the following components:
A78M-35 MB
AMD X4-760K CPU
CORSAIR CX 430
WD SATA 1TB drive
Radion Saphire GPU
I have hooked up everything like I have many times before and also re-read manual for sanity sake. I have unhooked and re-hooked everything as well, pulled MB out and re-inserted. Pulling out RAM does not offer any beeps but I am not sure if this board even has a board speaker to play beeps. Everything powers on just no output to screen and no beeps at all. Have tried just vga from integrated port with graphics card not installed as well as dvi from graphics card.
I am wondering if the bios version is not correct for this CPU? Is there a way i can tell? Is there anything else I can try?
Thank you very much in advance.

Radeon R9-260X - 19A and a 450W psu minimum <-- you are below on the wattage by 20w
without the GPU you have no Graphics as the board has no graphics core and the board itself has non so you would have 0 output!
as for your PSU have you tried another one?
do you have another graphics card you could try on it?
No i do not have another graphics card or PSU to try on it.

  • New Build P7N Platinum wont boot issue

    Hi Guys,
First of all can i give you all the spec of the machine i am having the issue with a s its NOT the same one as in my signature.
P7N Platinum (not sure on bios versions as i cant get to it!)
    OCZ 8500CZ memory (2x2gb)
E8600 cpu with Arctic 7 cooler
tagen BZ series 900 watt PSU
    Problems are as follows:
I have just assembled the system for my wife and when i powered up for the first time i got into the bios no problems. I changed the voltage for the memory as it runs at 2.1 volts and changed the date and also the boot priority settings to DVD drive first, then HDsecond and saved as i wanted to install an OS on reboot.
I rebooted and started to install XP but it froze during the format of the drive section.
When i now try and reboot i am getting nothing at all. The screen stays black but CPU fan spins and goes at normal speed as does the rear case fan. The PSU lights up and the GFX card fan is spinning.
I have tried running just 1 stick of memory but this has not worked or made any difference. All the normal Motherboard lights appear to be on.
Can i also point out that on the first boot ( when i forgot to check what bios version i was running) the E8600 was recognised in the bios with the correct multiplier and speed. This is my first complete build and i was wondering if i have missed anything obvious
I need some help now as i diont know what to do.

    Edit :
Did you try to clear CMOS with pc unplugged?
Be sure to turn off/pull the plug of PSU & hit the case power switch to drain PSU/MB capacitors before you clear CMOS. That should restore factory BIOS settings so you can at least boot to BIOS again and see what revision you have. You can also lookat the sticker on the BIOS chip, last 3 digits indicate version ie 100 would be v1.0,
110 = v1.1. For your CPU you should have v1.2 going by CPU support list.
I'm pretty sure the chip is located here on your MB:

have you tried to boot with 1 memory stick only?
have you tried to reseat the CPU and to >>Clear CMOS Guide<< with power cord removed?

  • New Build 770-G45 won't post

    Hi,
I doing a new build for a friend, I've built 4 systems to date but haven't had much trouble so I don't have much experience trouble shooting.
This is the issue so far, if I clear the CMOS when I boot up everything seems fine, the bios posts, I can enter setup, and everything seems to be recognized.
Once I save and re-boot I get the splash screen followed by a blinking cursor on a blank screen, in other words the bios won't post.
I'm wondering if I have a problem with my memory (see specs below), I've noticed the mainboard recognizes it as 1333, I read the sticky on memory, but I'm still not sure what to do here.
    Thanks

    Ram Model #F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ
    http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=88
Looks like I should have researched this RAM more carefully, it looks like it only works for AMD 785 series and higher.
    Do you guys agree?
    Thanks

  • New Neo 4 Platinum Wont boot past WIN XP :(

Hi, Im hoping someone can help me, I just built my system, its
    MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum
    AMD 64 3200+ 939 0.09
    2 x PC4000 Crucial Ballistix (running at 200mhz)
    4 Lighted Fans, Lighted case,
    DVD RW, CD ROM ,
    Floppy with Multimedia,
    XFX Geforce 6600GT 128mb
    Antec Trupower 430w  26a on the 12V, 36A on the +5V and 28A on the +3.3V
Ok, Everything works fine, till WINDOWS boots up ... And it wont boot, before the windows XP loading screen, it stays black, and freezes.. now.. to me it seems like memory/ power supply issue. lowered timings, raised Memory to 2.8v (Crucial suggest this voltage for the ram) ... no go... now my power supply is a good power supply.. but its only 20pin, and the nforce 4 ultra (well MSI) is 24pins ATX 2.0.. mine is a standard ATX12V... its supposed to still work, but Ive had mixed bagss of peopel saying it worked for them, and others that said it didnt.. but with this power supply, shouldnt I have been fine.. PLEASE someone help me, this is eating me alive...

Oh man this sounds familiar., i'm having some of the same probs. I just redid the install of XP Pro sp2 cause i needed the nvidia raid drivers for the NCQ on the Seagate i got.
The first install went fine but i couldn't  oc more then 220fsb with this Corsair pc4400, so
i was like ok let's just get everything running sweet and then play. So after i added the
printer a usb scanner and a usb memcard reader for the camera, it would just hang after the boot logo for xp then it would hang on the Platinum screen sometimes too.
So i played with the voltages which seemed to help for a little bit., i went 3.3%+ on the cpu, 1.5 on the north bridge, and 2.70 on the mem. So i reformatted and used the 6.39 chipset drivers and the latest vid drivers from the manufacturer and everything seemed ok. So i proceeded to add the printer, scanner and card reader again 1 at a time and it seems like it's after the mobo gets warmed up is when it hangs on booting XP after the bootscreen., Cpu temps are at 35C and this mobo in a Cooler Master Cavalier case runs kinda warm for me like at 36 - 37C (According to Cool n Quiet) after it gets all warmed up. So i'm kinda at a loss here too.  I got the same psu as the first poster. Memtest 86 ran for 4hrs, with no errors, and Sandra burned in for a couple hours with no problems.
Oh and the mobo say's the bios is the 1.1 dated 1-12-2005
So i'm hoping it's a bois thing that will be resolved soon, or is it this psu. Seems like some other fellas have had no probs with lesser psu's. Oh and do those 20 to 24 pin adapters make a difference?

  • New builder: P67A G43 won't POST (I think..)

Hey all, this is my first post, and incidently I'm also building my first pc. I've run into a problem and I don't know what to do! My rig is as follows:
    Mobo: MSI P67A G43
    CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K
    GPU: MSI N560GTX Ti
    RAM: 2x4gb Corsair XMS3 (1333)
    PSU: Seasonic x650
I have NOT yet installed an OS, as I havent picked one up yet.
When I turn on the computer, I get 3 SHORT beeps: the first 2 are the same pitch, the 3rd beep is higher. Right after, the "msi military class II" logo flashes on the screen. Immediately after that, I get the following message: "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media...etc,etc". I can enter the bios, however I have to frantically hit the DEL key after turning on the comp, and there is no screen or message that says to do so during the above process. As this is my first build, I'm not well versed on what exactly a POST screen is, or if my specific mobo even has one.
Are these beeps normal? Am I supposed to see a POST screen at some point? I am aware that MSI boards give beeps based on the number of USB devices connected, however I get the same beep code without any USB devices connected.
EDIT: Google has brought me to other threads on this same topic, and it has been suggested that memory could be an issue, or an overheating CPU. When I am in the bios there is a memory test app available, and it indicates that my RAM is fine. As well, the bios indicates that my CPU is running at 32-33C. So I don't think that either of these things is an issue, but Im new and could be completely wrong.

1.Pull out video card and RAMs and reinsert carefully, confirming it's not loose. Visually inspect CPU cooler during.
2.Check if you've connected all the power cables to MoBo and Video card. Reinsert them, to confirm tight connection.
    3. don't clear CMOS so often
    4. no need to manically hit Del button, just wait for the beep, and when you see the keyboard diodes flash, start pressing slowly ~ 2x pre second for example
    5. are you sure about the beep code?  i haven't heard different pitch beeps before
    6. go into BIOS, load defaults, and check all 66 items turn off green power and other exotic enhancements for now
But seriously - all devices should be properly recognized - CPU,RAM, HDD and optics, check IDE/SATA/AHCI settings, temperatures, voltages, boot sequence, integrated peripherals, etc.
Double check CPU clock, multiplier, FSB speed, memory speed and ratio.
    7. get a live Linux or Windows CD to boot up the system directly from CD
    8. start Aida64 HWMonitor from USB (or what you prefer) to again confirm temps/voltages and FSB, CPU and memory speed... and RAM size/configuration properly recognized
    9. Start testing system stability with Prime95 (or else), and be around to watch the temperatures
    10. test video card for artifacts. I used AtiTool for mine, not sure what is good for 560GTX?
If fail, start pulling out you components -
one RAM stick out -test again
video card out - test again with Intel's GPU.

  • New Build Drops Video on Boot Up

The system has the following configuration.
    MSI 890FXA-GD70 AM3+ AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
    AMD FX-6100 Zambezi 3.3GHz Socket AM3+ 95W Six-Core Desktop Processor FD6100WMGUSBX

    CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C
Western Digital Caviar Blue WD5000AAKX 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
When the system boots from the win7 CDROM and runs the install everything apears to be working fine. Install completes loading files to hard drive without a hitch.
On boot of the windows installation from the hard disk it apears like it is going to start. I get the 4 windows flying in ... then nothing.
Aslo the diagnostic led on the main board goes dark. The board has power and blue leds are on all over the board. The system will not shut off and I need to recycle the power supply to get it to boot again.
I reinstalled windows again and the same thing happens at the same time. I can complete the first stage of the install, but the system stops (as described above) on startup from the hard drive.
What should I check? Is it abnormal for the diagnostic led to go dark when there is still power to the board?
Thank you for your help... I built this system as a gift for my son and I really am anxious to figure aout what could be going wrong.

Alright, let's have a look at the BIOS first:
    Quote
    V 1.13B2 11011
This is a BETA BIOS Release, which as such is no problem.  However, there have been a number of newer releases after that, including the latest final BIOS Version which is newer than the release you are currently using. Here is the full changelog:
    A7640AMS.1D2 [v1.13b2] --->   A7640AMS.1D0 [v1.13(0) Final]
    - Fix When running 3Dmark11, the performance of the new bios is lower than the old bios (around 300points difference).
    - Support patch CPU VID function.
    - Limit default CPU VID to 1.2125V when use AM3+ CPU.
    - Adjust CPU voltage and CPU PLL voltage to fix FX-6100 CPU BSOD issue when enter OS.
    - Update to AMD AGESA Orochi 1.1.0.2 and AMI 8.00.16_CPU-OrochiPI_1.1.0.2-1.
    - Added Cpu Core Control by Core for AM3+ CPU,and added Adjust Turbo Core Ratio(Pb1) for AM3+ CPU.
    - FIX when set "Extra RAID/IDE Controller" to disabled, the Jmicron POST ROM can show up and it can still enter os.
    - Fixed DRAM GG34GB1333C9DC_2GB auto voltage at 1.35v.
As you can see, there have been further fixes and adjustions that have to do with your CPU model and also some microcode/module updates.  I would recommend a BIOS Update to the latest final version (do it under DOS).  Then properly clear CMOS again, load "Optimized Defaults" in BIOS Setup and re-test.
    Secondly, your PSU:
Your PSU (in addition to the fact that the review I linked you to is not really happy with the performance), has a split 12V circuit. Each 12V-Sub-Rail can deliver up to 16A@12V [=192W] according to Cooler Master's own specifications.  If the review is correct, then the PSU is not able to deliver the amount of power that it is advertising. So, to be on the safe side, we should work with 14-15A maximum output on the 12V sub-rails.
Since your video card does not have its own power connector, it will be powered by the same sub-rail your CPU is powered by:
    --> CPU -> TDP = 95W .... 95W/12V ~ 8A
    --> GPU -> max. power draw ~ 40W .... 40W/12V ~  3,33A
This adds up to 11,33A@12V on a power rail that we don't want to be forced to deliver more than 14A. Count in an extra 1A for the board itself and a few more 12V pits and pieces drawn by hard drives, optical drives, LEDs and fans.
The bottom line is, that there is sufficiant indication that your PSU may be operating at its limit.
In case the BIOS update does not change things for you, you should consider testing a quality PSU that is able to deliver at least 20A on a single 12V rail or sub-rail.

  • New build; P7N Diamond won't POST

I ran a few searches and couldn't come up with anything conclusive.  Yes, I did read the sticky BIOS error codes and it didn't help.  I powered on the PC for the first time, and all I get is a constant beep that never stops.  Needless to say the PC doesn't POST.  Anyone know what the continuous beep error code is exactly?
All connections have been verified and re-plugged to ensure proper contact.  I'm questioning the processor, or the power supply.  Any assistance or advice is greatly appreciated.
    Specifics below:
    P7N Diamond MB
    PC Power & Cooling S75QB 750W EPS12V Power Supply
    Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor

Have you tested each video card seperately in the primary PCIE slot?
Have you tested each memory module seperately in all memory slots?
Did you double-check all power connections (especially 4/8-Pin +12V CPU)?
I have checked each video card in the primary slots as well as both in the other blue x16 slot.  No change
I have checked each memory stick in each of the slots.  No change

The P7N Diamond uses an 8-pin +12V CPU power connector near the top-rear of the computer.  I had to use an extender to get my 8-pin powersupply plug to reach.
All power connectors are indeed plugged in, the 24 pin as well as the 8pin for the CPU.  THe board is laying on my desk at the moment in a bare bones config outside the case.  The 8pin connector will reach, allbeit barely.  I'd just like to see some output before I worry about making the inside of the case neat and tidy.
Keep the suggestions coming please.  I'd rather make this work than start RMA-ing various components.

  • K9N Neo V3 wont boot at all and has constant green light

Hi guys, as you can see I'm new to the forum and new to PC building this is my second rig and not my favorite for some reason this motherboard just wont boot. when i push the start button the heatsink fan spins and the power led stays green but other than that there's no other activity
    heres my specs
    MSI K9N Neo V3
    AMD Semphron 3000 am2
    512mb NANYA PC2-4200
Tested with 250w and 300w psus
    Ati radion graphics card Pci-e
    200gb hd
note these parts are mostly testing items to test the board before i buy more expensive parts  any help would be great

Quote from: Fredrik on 24-October-08, 05:20:56
You will barely, barely get by with a very good 300W PSU, but that needs to be very good. Any hardware changes or addings will render your system unusable. I would recommend you a Zalman unit of about 400 - 500 watts. ~80 - 100 $. So you can "develop" the system.
But your system seems to pass POST.  Can you disconnect the hard disk, possible opticals (CD/DVD) and if you have any USB things, and try again, please. Make sure you got the required power cables connected!
Nanya memory is new to me. It wouldn't be a Dell special (memory)?
thanks for the reply im currently using a dell system but my new builds motherboard just wont boot at all thats the main problem the psus seem to boot other systems so im unsure to whether the board is healthy or not since i cant connect the cases original audio plug to this mobo :( its unable to give me beep commands and the green light as ive read else where often means something bad but the condition dosent seem to change even when i change out parts
and the psu is a 12v

  • [SOLVED]New Build, no sound, Alsa unable to open slave

I've been happily using Arch on an old laptop I had lying around for 4/5  months, alongside ARM on my Raspberry Pi for a year or so. Being more than happy with it I decided to sell my 2011 i5 iMac, build a pc and hopefully learn something along the way. I mention this as it's my first build and the issue may be hardware realted, or more likely my assembly of the hardware, I've updated my sig to reflect the new parts.
The first decision I made two days ago upon putting the system together. I had two plugs, one for HD audio, another for Realtek audio, I went with the HD option. The other variable that is new to me is an audio option in the Gigabyte uefi/bios for audio which has options for enabled, disabled & auto - I've tried all three. I thought at first going with HD option may have meant sound only via hdmi, I'm using an old vga monitor, but after a little reading it seems the HD option should work with the standard audio out's on the motherboard & case too.
I've got a 3.5mm jack plugged into the line out on the back of the motherboard going to a phono connection on my stereo, I've also tried the headphone out on the front of the case, Zalman Z9.
    I've installed alsa-plugins and alsa-utils. Upon running speaker-test, or speaker-test -c 2 I'm getting:
    speaker-test -c 2

The above is all without any .asoundrc in my home directory or anything in /etc.modprobe.d/*.conf
From the wiki I've tried putting
    options snd slots=snd_mia,snd_hda_intel
    options snd_mia index=0
    options snd_hda_intel index=1
in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf, and tried reversing the 1 and 0, both 0's, both 1's to no avail.
I've tried a few variations in .asoundrc based on the wiki example with no luck.
I'm lost, this is the first time I've had sound issues with linux and I'm really not sure if it's rooted in the hardware, my first attempt at building a pc or a simple alsa config issue.
Googling for unable to open slave in alsa seems to bring up mainly conflicting programm issues whic I don't think is my issue as I have no sound at all.
    *edit*
perhaps this should be in newbie corner? my linux sound knowledge is definitely newbie status.

Solved, not sure where I was going wrong in my initial attempts but a simple .asoundrc has my speakers singing. Could have sworn this was tried to death in the first half hour or so, oh well.
On the plus side I spent my lunch hour today getting a rough idea of sound on linux and alsa preparing for a fight with my new build, ten minutes after booting up the new machine on my return home & all is well.

  • A78M-E45 blank screen, wont boot, no post boot.

    Hi there,
I always had ASUS boards with Intel processors. Now Im building a MSI / AMD computer.
    Motherboard: A78M-E45
Memory: Kingston blu 16gb 1600mhz KHX1600C10D3B1K2/16G (two sticks of 8gb)
Processor: AMD Athlon II X4 760K
    Power: Corsair CX430 V2
    Graphics: Club3D Radeon R9 270 14 series
    SSD: Crucial M500 240gb sata3
    Case: CoolerMaster N300
With this configuration the system wont boot. Just a blank screen.
I did a few tricks like changing the Power to a better one. Unplugged the SSD and DVD drive. Cleared the cmos.
    No luck.
The processor is compatible but the memory is not on the list. The board should handle speeds up to 2133mhz so that sould be no problem.
    What am I missing here?
    Thanks,
    Sebastiaan.

I have a few questions for you:
what other power supply did you try? (it may be a power problem as a AMD system with that config may need upto a 500-550W PSU with the CPU and Graphics combo you have)
have you tried each stick of RAM individually on the board? (Some kits are defective and you need to test each)
can you try the board outside the case on a non conductive surface (cardboard or untreated wood) to make sure its not a short under the board?

  • NF750-G55 New Build Won't Boot to DVD

I'm doing a rebuild of a system in which the old motherboard failed. This is only the second time I have done a build, so forgive any apparent ignorance. The following describes the system: Motherboard: MSI NF750-G55, CPU: AMD Athlon II X3 450, PSU: Hiper Type R MkII 880W, Case: Antec Three Hundred, Memory: Rendition by Crucial 1 X 4GB, Hard Drive: Seagate 400 GB, DVD: Samsung 22X SpeedPlus. Only the case, PSU and DVD come from the first build I did 18 months ago and were fine until the old MOBO failed.
The problem I'm encountering with the new MSI NF750-G55 is booting to the DVD so I can load Windows Vista onto the hard drive. The POST gives me a Bad CHKSUM error and directs me to bios setup. In setup, the Boot Sequence shows my DVD and hard drives as disabled and won't let me enable either.
I've uninstalled everything, cleared the CMOS and reinstalled everything five times. Nevertheless I am still getting the same error message and can't enable either  my DVD drive or hard drive. Therefore, I'm unable to successfully boot up and load windows onto the new hard drive.
I'm out of ideas and ready to return the MOBO to Newegg for another, but I would rather fix the problem. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can try next before I ask for an RMA?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide this newbie.

I've tried loading defaults (both optimized and fail-safe) in bios setup as well as by using F2 in the chksum error screen. All result in a screen that looks like this:
The text that is obscured in the upper part of the screen reads:
BTX loader 1.0 BTX version is 1.01
    Console: internal video/keyboard
Bios drive C: is disk 0
    Bios 636kB/2030208kB available memory
Once in that screen, the only way out is to unplug the PSU and reset the CMOS.
As I said before, I'm stymied and have no idea what to try next.

do not do this, just hit reset button then press F11 during BIOS post screen and boot from your optical drive.

  • Dual boot two oems on new build

    Have built a new desktop. Asus Z97 pro mb, intel 4790k cpu, 16gb ddr3 1333 memory. 1ssd 120gb, 1ssd 240gb, 1 WD 1Tb hard drive for data
Purchased two windows 7 oems. Home Premium 32bit and professional 64bit with the components all from the same supplier.
Purpose to dual boot on separate ssds, within the one desktop.
Installed HP 32bit first on 120gb ssd but system refuses to accept Pro 64bit and will not install.
Computer properties indicates system is 32 bit. No indication that it is 64 bit capable.
Is this usual or is it not possible to install two oems on the same new build?

Windows should not care about this. I'd ask the hardware manufacturer or try them over here.

  • 975x wont boot - new parts

Hi all, im new to this forum but it seems great, i read around abit and found some useful posts.
However, i have the following setup :
    Msi 975x
    c2d 6400
    2gb corsair xms 6400 c4 ( 2*1gb )
    7900gs PoV
    Aspire 550 psu
    I just put the parts toghether again, after having the parts returned to vendor, he claims the first cpu didnt work, and returned the motherboard while i waited for a new cpu to arrive. When i got it i tried the system again, but the following error is still there ;
The system wont boot, other than the fans will spin up but no screen at all, just stands there, when i use the usb led thingy, it shows 4 red dots.
I saw some posts about OCZ memory that wont work, but those were reported as memory issues by the led if im correct, and as i can see it arent 4 red dots the code for CPU , or can the code be wrong and its still the memory ?
The new cpu i got was in an unopened box so it was really new, but i refuse to believe i have broken 2 cpus or have recieved 2 dead cpu from vendor.
Any ideas would be very much welcome.
    Cheers   //  Baboon

    Baboon,
You're not the only one surprised.
I bought THREE 975X PUEs and every time I have re-visited the MSI website I have found new caveats for something the board won't do, or for something that won't work, or for something not included . . . no fixes, mind you, just oddly worded "escape clauses".
    Here are some examples:
    MSI Reminds You...
    • DDR2 800 needs to work with Intel Conroe CPU with FSB1066.
    • The default memory frequency is DDR2 667, you can set to 800 in BIOS settings.
    • Due to the BIOS limits, the Intel RAID and the JMicron RAID functions can not be enabled at the same time, which will cause the system unable to boot up.
    • The RAID setup floppy disk is optional depending on the districts. You can download the files from the website to make the setup disk.
    • To enhance IDE transfer speed, you may install JMicron IDE/SATA Driver. You may download the driver by clicking the "Driver" icon at the left side.
    • The floppy disk cable will be optional.
Yep, the first one was a big surprise to a lot of us sticking in our P4s.  Hello?  Well, OK, maybe the "CPU Support Chart" should have been the "CPU Semi-Support Chart".
OK, I'll even give MSI the first one.  But the third bullet!  Now that one just flat makes me laugh!
Beta Board!  MSI didn't design this Board, it just kinda "happened".
