New Cable Speed 15Mbps- Do I go G or N? Help Please
Hey All,
So I've been using Verison DSL and been getting a download speed of 1504 kbps I can upgrade to a 15Mbps download speed for an extra $20 if I switch to Cable Rocdrunner Turbo. Below are my questions:
1. Will I see a greater benefit running an all N network at this speed? Currently I run a mixed n and g network but I don't want to go exclusive N if I don't have to as I will have to upgrade more equipment if I make that commitment.
2. Is it worth the $20 dollars for the uptick in speed and will I notice it? I feel like this is most likely a resounding yes but just want to make sure as I'm not great with speed. I play a lot of Xbox 360 and am hoping to upgrade the quality of my Netflix streaming too.

Increased download speeds will not help gaming performance, but they will help you get movies and such faster than before. There might be a limit, based on the server sending the download file. Many times limits are imposed which cap download speeds. However, what this means is you can download from multiple sources at the same time and not bog down the connection.
Most movie streaming services dont require much beyond 1.5Mb/sec, but with a faster connection you'll be able to download other things in the background and still be able to stream your movies.
As for the type of network adaptor, both G and N will work fine. Most connections have an overhead of 20-25%, but even with the slower "G" wireless connection you'll have at least 40Mb/sec throughput. Additionally you probably wont see a full 15Mb/sec on your upgrade, and will probably average 8-10Mb with spikes to 13-15Mb/sec.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

New ipod passcode locked out. tried other steps still need help please
Hi passcode locked out of daughters new ipod. we backed up on computer this morning or rather it automatically backed up when plugged into itunes as directed from other posts i was reading. Then I tried to restore but it said I needed to turn off "find my ipod" which I cant because I need the passcode to get to settings. I then tried the home button power off but when i get to itunes restore ipod it tells me I need passcode. pleae help what step am I missing? go s l o w l y please I am new to mac after 20 years on pc and need help in steps that are not intuitive to me.
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

As the title says really. I deauthorized my old computer and therefore i thought that would mean i could sync my ipod, when i authorized my new one but it won't sync to my library on this laptop. why?

How can I add new images to a saved book in Lightroom 4? Help please!
As the title suggests, I have created a saved book in LR4. I saved it not because I had finished but because I wanted to protect my work to date. Now I cannot add new images, although I can work with (move and remove) the exisintg images in the book.
I'm new to LR and can't help but feel that I'm missing something obvious. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

GrahamGraham, switch to Grid view and drag the new photos to the book collection, which you'll find in the Collections panel. Then flip back to the Book module and you'll find the photos sat there in the Filmstrip waiting to be added to the book design.

Since you are using one of the the school's Macbooks, it is quite possible that the time and date are not properly set on the computer that you are using. FaceTime will not work if you do not have the proper time zone set up for the location that you are in. This past week, there were a two other Macbook users I've helped by simply telling them to set the Date/Time properly. By the way, you described your problem very well, which makes it easier for us to help you. Hope this solves your problem -- if not, post back and I can suggest other remedies.

I am using several Macs running Yosemite. I was recently “upgraded” to Xfinity’s new cable modem which can support both 2.5Ghz and 5Ghz networks at the same time. Actually I can connect to the internet over both with a satisfactory bump in speed for the Ghz. However when I connect to the 5Ghz the Time capsule disappears from the Airport Utility and claims to be Not Found. Is there something I have done wrong or just a Yosemite Teething Problem
First restart your mac and try again.
It could be
that the router and the TC are interfering wirelessly with each other.
You can check this by pressing the option key while clicking on the wireless icon on your screen
Open Wireless Diagnostics
enter your user password
Press CMD 4 then Scan
You will see all the wireless channels being used in your location and you can check if they are on the same channel
Make the SSID for the TC simple like MyTC
Set 5Ghz to auto
Update the TC
Try again

If your external drive does not have an independent power supply, you may wish to consider a couple of lower-cost options before tossing the drive. Bus-powered drives have no external power source and must get all their power from the computer. They can exceed the computer's USB energy budget.

This gets power from two of the computers USB porst sna can provide enough power to wake up an under-performaing bus-powered drive.
If you don't have enough ports to use this, try the next cheapest option:

Such a hub has a an independent power supply to make up for wahat the comptuer fails to provide. -

I recently upgraded from my iPhone 3 to iPhone 4s. My old iPhone had not completed a sync in some time because of a faulty cable. But the old phone still will not sync properly even with the new cable.
Now that I have my new iPhone, I would like to first sync the old phone so all the data will be available for the new phone. I would also like to have an extra copy of my audio ebooks on the old iPhone so my husband and I can both listen at the same time using earphones while driving long distances in the car and then discuss the book. We have been unable to do this with the old iPhone alone due to constant road noise.I'm not sure what made the difference, but I tried again and it worked this time. ???????????
