New camera, can't edit RAW, CS5.1

Camera: Canon G16
Computer: Macbook pro 2012
OS: 10.9.1
Adobe: CS5.1
Just recently bought G16. Now can no longer open files in Camera Raw. I get the error "The photoshop camera raw plug-in did not recognize the format of one or more files. If these files are from a camera, you may need to update your version of the photoshop camera raw plug in" and then gives me a link.
I've searched through the link, the adobe site, and I've download and installed updates but no luck. Can someone help me out? I am missing my Camera Raw!

Well, if you had bothered to read a few threads here, your new camera won't work in your old Photoshop...either update to the current Photoshop or download the free DNG Converter and convert the camera's raw file to DNG.

  • Have New Camera Can't Open RAW in CS5

Have CS5 and a new camera, a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000. I tried uploading the RAW plug in, but I still can't get my photos to open. Suggestions?

This is a common scenario for those with older versions of Adobe software buying new cameras. It often requires a software upgrade too.
Why doesn’t my version of Photoshop or Lightroom support my camera?

    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
Support for the FZ1000 was just added to the very latest Camera Raw 8.6 which is only compatible with CS6, CC and CC 2014.
CS5 is only compatible with Camera Raw up to 6.7. CS5 is not compatible with later versions of Camera Raw so there's no way to open FZ1000 Raw files in CS5.

  • Can you edit raw photos in photo shop 11?

Can you edit raw photos in photo shop 11?

    Hi,
Are you talking about photoshop elements 11 or photoshop cs4?
You can edit camera raw files with both of the above, but it might depend on the camera the raw files came from.
What operating system are you using?
Which camera are the raw files from?

  • Can't edit RAW in iPhoto - grayed out

My system recently crashed and after installing a new hard drive and reinstalling programs I find that I can no longer edit RAW pictures within iPhoto. I see both the RAW and the jpg thumbnails (I shot in both formats side by side) in iPhoto. When I click on the jpg it allows me to edit. When I click on the RAW it will not allow me to edit. I can click the Edit button but once on the crop, enhance, rotate adjust page all options are grayed out. Prior to the crash I could edit RAW in iPhoto - I want to get back to that. I can edit RAW in an external editor but want to do it in iPhoto. Using a Nikon D90. A secondary issue if you care to comment.... all thumbnails are in place when I reinstalled the program however the jpgs are only place holders. When I click on the thumbnail I get the dread exclamation mark. I have to go hunting for the file in the "Show Package Contents" command. The RAW thumbnails will allow me to explore in an external editor (see above) but I cannot edit in iPhoto. Thanks, Craig

My guess is that the two problems are related.
When I click on the thumbnail I get the dread exclamation mark.
Your Library is corrupted. That's what you need to sort out.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • New lame workaround for editing RAW images in Photoshop

Instead of re-importing, I open the image in ACR, then jump back to iPhoto and make some inconsequential and quick change (sepia, anyone?), then when saving from Photoshop, I navigate to the same roll in Modified that I came out of in Originals and save as a jpg (over the Enhance/Sepia/Edge Blur/whatever). The edit I made in iPhoto (don't forget to save in iPhoto before saving from Photoshop) tells the library to use the jpg from the Modified folder (instead of just using it temporarily while it parses the RAW file).

sorry, but I disagree. I don't think it's lame at all. The only thing I would add is that it's important to unselect "Save edited RAW files as 16 bit TIFFs", unless of course you intend to save your Photoshop (or other editor) files as TIFFs.

  • Client Supplied AVI files from Flip Camera--Can't Edit in Premiere CS3

A client handed me a DVD-ROM disc with video footage he shot on a Flip camera.
The footage appears to import with no errors, but when I drag it to the timeline, I am presented with the "no" icon (O with a slash through it).
Apparently CS3 only sees the file as audio and I can drag it there.
VLC Media Player will play both the video AND audio portion, so I know the files are complete. It is just Premiere that can't deal with them.
Before I tell the client I can't take the job, is there anything I overlooked that would make these Flip camera AVI files editable in Premiere CS3?

Here is one of the ARTICLES that Harm mentions, from the PrE Tips & Tricks sub-forum.
There is also a very recent post to this forum on using the Flip material. I think that I, Jeff and probably Harm commented in that one. You can filter your Seach by People and use any one of us. I'd start with Jeff Bellune and look for the more recent dates.
    Good luck,

  • New Computer - Can't import raw files from Canon 1D mk 4

I just bought a new Toshiba Qosmio laptop and have reinstalled PS CS5 and LR 3.2 64 bit.  LR says there are no other updates to install.  Trying to import raw files from CF reader but LR is not showing me the raw files on the import screen.  I have installed Camera Raw 6.2 plug in.  It's been a long night but I can't see why files aren't importing properly.  What am I missing?  All suggestions greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Mark

    Mark,
The ACR plugin is not needed for importing files with Lightroom. LR has it's own "ACR" built in. The ACR plugin is used when opening Raw files from Photoshop.
Try copying the files from your card-reader to your hard drive using explorer/finder, and try importing from there. There have been quite a few reports where the card reader (and its connection) have lead to trouble while importing into LR.

  • I have a new camera and cannot import RAW files into lightroom.

I have a new Sony NEX 5 and have tried importing the ARW files into lightroom. The files are recognized when I import photos from device. When I choose the .arw files to import, I receive an message "unknown errors occurred" and files won't import. I have never had a problem importing files from a card or directly from my older camera. Any suggestions?

Check here to see if your camera is supported yet.
If its a camera launched in the last month it won't be. But you can try LR 3.2 RC and see if it has been added. Otherwise you will have to wait until LR supports the format. This is a problem caused by manufacturers constantly using their own formats which require Adobe to investigate every new format before adding it to LR. In 99.99% of the cases the so called new format from the manufacturers is just a line of code with the name of the camera in it. You can use a EXIF editor tool (just google, lots of free ones) to change the name in the RAW file to one presently supported and then convert to DNG. If you do go down this road then ensure you also keep a copy of the original files just in case something has actually changed.
If you are still using LR 2.7 and the format you need was introduced with LR 3 you don't need to upgrade, you can just use Adobes standalone converter to convert the files to DNG and then import them.

  • New Camera, Can't Import the Video & Upcoming Dance Recital

    Hello!
I just bought a camcorder, a Sony DCR-SR42. When I plug it into my Mac, the computer recognizes it, and I'm able to transfer the data file over USB to my iMovie projects folder. However, neither iMovie nor Quicktime can open the file.
When I try with iMovie it won't open it as an existing project. I try to import it, I get the following error:
The file could not be imported: The file “Macintosh HD/Users/Hawkins/Movies/M2U00006.MPG” can’t be imported; QuickTime couldn’t parse it: -2048
When I try to open it with Quicktime, I get the following error:
The movie could not be opened.
Can anyone help! My daughter is dancing in three days, and I'd like to record it!
    Thank you!
    Ben
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

This hard drive camera records using MPEG-2. That is the same as most all of the new DVD cameras.
This format is for playback and is not intended to be used as an editing format.
    Welcome to discussions, Ben
You will need to convert that format into a DV format that imovie can use.
MPEG Streamclip http://www.alfanet.it/squared5/mpegstreamclip.html is free and Apple's QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
is about $20.00. They are the tools that you need to download to convert these files.
Once you have done that, export to DV Stream (.dv) and import it into iMovie.
iMovie use Digital video (like from a DV Tape) through a firewire not USB. It's too bad that you can't take it back.

  • New computer, can't find my CS5 disc, where to download?

I got a new PC, and I can only find my CS3 disc.  I installed it, and then downloaded CS5.5, but I guess my serial number (which I retrieved off My Adobe) won't work.  I purchased an upgrade CS5 version 7.0 (which installed fine on my old computer upgrading from CS3), so I need to find where I can download that.
Why does adobe only seem to make the latest version available for download?   Where can I get CS5? HELP!!!!!!!!!

You can try Download Adobe CS4 and CS3 Free Trials Here (incl. After Effects) | ProDesignTools
I don't know if they have the CS5 downloads, too. You must follow the directions on that page EXACTLY or it won't work.

  • Mission Control / Spaces keeps opening in a new desktop - can't edit this

Anyone else find that Mission Control / Spaces will keep moving over to Desktop #2 for certain apps - even when they are assigned to main desktop?
    Annoying!

    Just to update.
I re-booted from the old starup volume, which is still intact. ( for now).
I was able to create a new library from there and the mail was alos able to attach files.
Started up from the new volume anf Aperture was able to be poinrted to the new Library.
I am thinking I may need to reinstall both the Mtn Lion and Aperture to resolve this.  Unless someone has a suggestion.........
I might alos add that I can't sign in to this forum on the new OSX.
I looked at the password and username stored in the old passwords list and it is not using the @gmail.com for my user name.
I tried leaving it off the sign in on the new OSX but it won't take it.  If I use the @gmail I get the screen to sign in a second time for security followed by a screen to create a username, which can't be done becuse that email already has a username.
I may have to create a new Apple ID also, f I want to use this forum.
Apple tech support said to file a report.  Which I did.

  • Can't edit RAW photos in Elements 6

    Hello,
I imported my RAW photos from my Nikon D80 to iPhoto '08 (v7.1.4) When I try to edit the photo in Elements 6 (by double clicking on it), the photo opens as a JPEG in Elements. Same thing happens if I try to drag the photo from iPhoto to my desktop - it automatically converts to JPEG.
    Any thoughts are appreciated!

    Ozark
iPhoto Preferences -> Advanced -> Check the box at 'Use RAW when using external editor
Dragging to the desktop will always get you the current version. Try exporting (File -> Export) setting the kind: to Original.

  • New computer, new camera -- can't video/audio chat with other mac users

I just got an ibook G4 a few months ago and just got an external iSight. My friend has an older iMac (the round, colored kind) and an iBot webcam. We had been able to do one-way video chats with my previous computer as well as audio chats. I can't get either to work now. The camera is on and I can see myself. I click on her camera icon and it says connecting, but then fails. Same thing when I try t do audio chats with her. Any ideas?

    Hi
Have you set the Quicktime settings, goto sys prefs/quicktime/streaming/streaming speed set what you get from your ISP go no higher then 1.5mbps(dont use automatic)
In ichats prefs click on video and change bandwidth limit to NONE.
    Restart iChat.
