New camera format not recognized/Adobe Updater will not update

I bought a new camera (Canon Mark 5D III). I am trying to use my laptop (Mac Air/Lion) with Photoshop CS3 (although I have upgrades, I cannot upgade to CS5.5 or 6 because it will just drag my system down, worse than it is limping along already with Lion). Camera Raw doesn't recognize the file format. Adobe Updater will not upgrade anymore. Updater gives the following message: There are no updates available at this time. Please note that some updates for the following products cannot be determined at this time: Adobe Updater." How do I get the files to read on my laptop? I use it for travel and would like to at least be able to see my files in Photoshop for sharpness, and maybe do some preliminary editing.
By the way, I spent 20 minutes waiting for a chat assistant then when I got one, he told me I had to call tech support. I tried calling tech support but was put on hold for well over 2 and a half hours before hanging up. This is horrible service! I couldn't even find an email address for customer service to lodge a complant.

Moving this discussion to the Adobe Camera RAW forum.  Mary Prasad you will likely want to look at using the DNG convertor to convert your files to the DNG format.  You can then open the DNG file in Photoshop CS3.  You can find more details at http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/extend.displayTab2.html.

  • I have mac 10.9 version.  Adobe photoshop Elements 12.  I just got a new camera Nikon D4S.  Photoshop elements will not upload/import my raw photos.  i get a message that can not complete my request because the file appears to be from a camera model which

I have Mac version 10.9.  Adobe elements 12.  New camera Nikon D4s. I have uploaded DNG plug in 8.4. Tried to convert my raw photos and it still does not work. How can I upload raw photos taken with my Nikon D4S so that I can edit these photos?

How did you try to install ACR 8.8.  The only way I know of that works with Elements is to use the Updates Choice on the Help menu.
There are two charts supplied by Adobe that explain your RAW dilemma.  This one tells you what your camera needs:  http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html   This one tells you what version of software you need:  http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
In your case, the Nikon D810 needs Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) 8.6 or Lightroom 5.6.  (Congratulations on buying a new camera!)
To get to that level with Photoshop Elements, you will need to replace your Photoshop Elements 12 with version 13.   Adobe caps ACR updates on version 12 at 8.5.
The most convenient way to get around it without spending any money is to use the FREE from Adobe DNG Converter.  Download and install it from here for FREE:  http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=5855&fileID=5890  Once it is installed you can convert your D810 raw files to an Adobe RAW version with the .DNG file extension that most, if not all, versions of the various Adobe software programs can use.  That includes old versions of Photoshop, Elements and Lightroom.  DNG converter can be used as the tool to move your files from your memory card to your computer, is efficient, will convert in batches and is completely lossless.  There is no risk of any image quality degradation or RAW functionality.

  • New camera profile not "appearing" in ACR, but does in Lightroom

I recently created a camera profile for a Nikon D200, using an X-Rite Colorchecker chart photo and the Chart feature in the DNG Editor.  I exported the camera profile.  When I go to the Calibration tab in ACR 5.5, the new profile does not appear in the drop down list with the other camera profiles.  However, when I go to the Develop module in Lightroom 2.5, the new profile does appear in the drop down list there.
I am running Windows 7.  Snooping around my root drive I find that if I look within the Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles directory (referenced in the Fraser and Schewe CS4 Camera Raw book as the Vista location for the profiles) I can find no camera profiles and when I place the new profile there it still does not appear in ACR.  When I look in ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles\Camera\Nikon D200    directory I can see the regular set of camera profiles for the camera, as well as the one I created, but as I previously stated, the newly created profile does not appear in the ACR list.
A side note - I did some experimentation with camera profile names.  I added "XX" to the end of the Nikon Vivid profile name (not the extension), and then that profile no longer appears in the ACR list of profiles.  I removed the extra letters and then the profile reappears in the ACR list of profiles.  Seemed odd behavior to me.  I also noticed that the profile I created with DNG Editor is noticeably smaller than the others provided by Adobe (28K compared to 110k).
Hope someone has a suggestion for me.

Your reminder about both Photoshop (main) and Bridge needing to be shut down for changes to take effect reminded me that I had Bridge set to "auto-start at log-in".  So I checked and it was still running (shown with the other hidden icons).  When I "shut it down" from the UI I had thought it was fully terminated.  So I completely shut Bridge down, restarted, and the new profile now appears.
Thanks for the reminder/pointer in the right direction.

  • New camera does not show as a disc on desktop like my old camera???

Just wondering if this is a camera issue or an iPhoto issue. I just bought a Canon SD400 and when I hook it up, it goes through the norm...it launches iPhoto then waits for me to click import. It does not, however, show as a drive on the desktop...or show on the desktop at all for that matter. With my old camera, I could use the iPhoto option, or I could just go to the desktop and open it as though it were a drive or a disc..that way, I could just grab photos real quick and put them in a folder. It was perfect for photos that I only needed temporarily or didn't necessarily want in my iPhoto library. Any clues why this has stopped with the new camera? The old one, where it did work, was a Fuji Finepix 3800: http://www.fujifilm.com/JSP/fuji/epartners/ServiceSupportProduct.jsp?prodcat=499 950
and, as mentioned, the new one is the Canon Powershot SD400. Help please...I really liked the convenience of having the camera show up as a drive for quick, no frills downloading of photos. Thanks in advance.

Different camera, different mass-media drivers. Your camera model probably will never show up as a mountable disk on the desktop. For the ability to remove only selected photos from the camera, launch the Image Capture application. In Image Capture preferences, remove iPhoto as the target application that opens when your camera is connected. Choose Image Capture to open, instead.
Once you've downloaded your photos to a folder with Image Capture, you can subsequently use iPhoto to import whatever images you want included in your iPhoto collection.

  • How do I add a new camera so I can still shoot in RAW? my new camera is not recognised.

Hi! I have Photoshop Elements 11 and I started with a Canon 1000D, I was able to shoot in raw, then convert my images to JPEG for sharing.
I have since upgraded cameras and when I upload a RAW file off my camera card, it immediately makes a copy of the photo in JPEG and I can only access that one, the program tells me that my camera is not recognised by PSE 11.
Can somebody please direct me to the right location to change the camera model, so that I can once again shoot in RAW?
    Thank you!!

Which camera are the camera raw files from?
Which operating system are you using?

  • New Camera is not showing up

I have bought a new digital camera (Sony DSC-K10) and I've taken some pics, but when I connect it to my Mac (OS 10.5) via the USB it does not show up in my I-Photo or on my desktop. The CD I got with it for the driver also doesn't work as I think it is for PC's. What can I do?

Most SONY cameras have several connect modes - check you owners manual - You probably want to select mass storage mode

  • Problems installing plug-ins (and even Adobe updates) to Photoshop CS5 Extended on a new Win7 64-bit laptop.Instead, a message box pops up on the CS5 screen saying "could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document."

Problems installing plug-ins to Photoshop CS5 Extended on a new Win7 64-bit laptop.  (Same CS5 and plug-ins installed OK several years ago on a Vista laptop.  Now I'm just trying to migrate everything over to the new laptop.) Even some Adobe updates won't install.  Instead, a message box pops up on the CS5 screen saying "could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document."   Any solution?

CS5's automatic update mechanism is broken, perhaps because it is no longer updated and can't cope with the newer ways of updating.
So this means you will have make a list of the updates that failed, go here: Product updates
    and manually download/install from there.

  • New Camera -- Should I Use JPEG Until RAW Update?

I just got the just released Nikon D7000. Since Aperture 3 does have this cameras specific RAW data yet is it best to just shoot JPEG until there is a RAW update? Also how soon after a new camera model release do these updates appear?

    danieldk wrote:
Sometimes, it may also work to convert the image to DNG with Adobe's free DNG tool, and import that in Aperture.
    True. That can work.
Personally, I do not like that solution, but it may be ok for other people. My problem is that you make adjustments to big DNG files and then you will have to redo them on the NEF files, once that is possible, or keep just the DNG and lose the built in Picture Control data of the NEF.
I would prefer doing some quick fixes on the smaller jpegs and wait with the big permanent work once Apple supports the camera.

  • Adobe updates: I've gotten error messages when trying to download pdfs (very annoying). Read somewhere that mac os has problems with the adobe extensions, thus, causing error messages from adobe. I ignore the updates. Should I?

    Hi All,
I have stopped updating adobe software b/c I read that the adobe update software inserts extensions into the mac software system, causing annoying/time consuming error messages when downloading new pdfs. I get adobe update notices 2-3x/week. What do you recommend? I use an iMac OS 10.94.
    thanks for your help.

Preview will do all that and is part of the OS.

  • Old Adobe Updater Removal

Hello Fellow Adobe CC Users and @adobe,
So I've been a Create Cloud subscriber for a couple of years now.  I've noticed even on a brand new iMac that the old Adobe updater makes it's way into the menu bar next to the create cloud updater.  The old Adobe updater really has no functionality, it makes sense that Adobe would kill this in an update, but it's now been years and it's still there, see the attached showing CC and the A next to dropbox.
Does anyone on the forums have a way to kill this component without affecting Create Cloud?  I don't see any value and it takes up menu space for zero reason.
    Thanks,
    Dave

  • I just upgraded to Photoshop cs6 so that my new camera (Nikon D7100) would work in Camera Raw.  However, it will not download from the  "Update" option in CS6.

I just upgraded to Photoshop cs6 so that my new camera (Nikon D7100) would work in Camera Raw  (I was told that the Camera Raw update 8.3, which is available for CS6, included this camera).  However, it will not download from the  "Update" option in CS6.  I have tried over 10 times - it just says update is not working. and I cannot find an alternate way of downloading this file. So I still can use my camera, even thought I paid to upgrade.  HELP please.

What OS do you have?  You say you have explained what you had (computer/opsys) but I honestly don't see it here.  If you had mentioned that my advice would have been different; I believe you can only upgrade as far as Camera Raw 8.3 on an older Windows system.  There is more information here (look specifically for the "Revert to 8.3 ..." titles).
Adobe Camera Raw Help | Camera Raw/DNG Converter 8.4 on Mac OS 10.6, Windows XP, and Vista
What you've done/written in your last post confuses things further, unfortunately.  Photoshop 13.1 is strictly a Creative Cloud version.  The highest you can go is Photoshop CS6 13.0.1.3 with perpetual license.
And as far as I can recall, that version can work on Windows back to XP:
    System requirements | Photoshop
I don't think you're out of luck, but you seem to be leaping into doing things without having the full story, and are jumping to conclusions a bit too quickly.
Here's what I suggest you try:
    1.  Remove Photoshop entirely with the Creative Suite Removal Tool:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
    2.  Install Photoshop CS6 from your original media or from here:
    Download CS6 products
    3.  Update the application using its own Help - Updates process.  That really should get you the latest Camera Raw version that will work.  If that does not bring you a Camera Raw that works with your Nikon, use the "Revert to 8.3" instructions above.

    Hi,
I assume you mean the Nikon D810 because D800/800E support has been there since Lightroom 4.1
Currently, because it is a new camera (D810) the only support is in a RC of ACR 8.6 for Photoshop CS6 and CC, as the RC runs out on 31 August it is expected support will be there in the next dot release of Lightroom.
Current limitations are that only full sized NEF is supported.
If you wish to import to Lightroom 5.5. you will need to download the DNG Converter v8.6RC and convert the NEF files (full size RAW ony) to DNG then import into Lightroom 5.5

  • Just did a Mac update yesterday for Yosemite and I can not open a picture in elements with out it crashing.  Spent over 4 hours with Mac and it came down to an Adobe Issue with the New Photo which is replacing the I photo. Elements does not recognize it,

Does anyone know a direct number for adobe that will not cost you to just ask about their program which will not work with a new mac update!

You can do that in iPhoto, too. Just go to the iphoto prefs>advanced, and set PSE as your external editor. Note that the actual editor is not the file at the top level of Applications>Adobe Photoshop Elements < version number >, but rather hidden away inside the Support Files folder:
Then you just right the click the photo in iphoto and choose edit with external editor.
If you have the new Photos app, you can't drag and drop, either.

  • Hi please can you help me. I have photoshop CS5 extended, I bought a new camera Nikon D610 I want to edit my photos adobe camera raw , but when I try to open photoshop CS5 it will not open. Please can you tell me how to download and install the camera raw

HI bought a new camera Nikon D610 , I am using adobe photoshop CS5 extended, I want to edit my photos in camera raw but it is not possible to do so . I need to download camera raw plugin for CS5 can some tell me how to do so or if there is a link for the camera plugin.
    Many thanks Pitt.

For that Nikon model you need ACR 8.3 that means CS6 or CC.  Or you can download the DNG converter convert your Nikon RAW files to Adobe RAW files. And then process the Adobe RAW files with CS5 ACR version  6.7
